A friend found a deal for bike rentals here through Groupon, and we had a great time biking through Central park on a double date! With the Groupon, the price was only $14 for 2 hour bike rental for 2. That is extremely cheap! 2 hours is ample time to loop through the park and make your way back to the store. Our group didn't stop too long at any single spot, but we made quick pit stops for photos at the Central Park Conservatory and the Bethesda Fountain. Getting the bikes was an easy process. The bikes are lightweight and come equipped with baskets so you can offload your backpack! The company also offered locks which we should have taken. We were 2 mins late to return our bikes but no late fees were charged. I highly recommend coming here and renting a bike as a fun way to explore Central Park. read more

The worse customer service experience in NYC !! New York City is not known for the best service however this place takes the medal for the worse customer service experience during our stay. We purchased the Groupon based on decent reviews but as soon as you mention the Groupon to them you automatically become a burden to them, they FORCE a $1.99 insurance making it impossible to decline, both clerks will tell you that if anything happens to the bike such as a flat tire or a scratch during the rental time period they will charge your card $600 (these bikes are not $600 worth) So once you return the bikes they don't even do a full inspection leaving me to believe that the insurance is simply a gimmick to add $2 bucks to their tip jar. I enjoyed Central Park but even upon return they rush you to turn in the bikes for the next rental.. keep away, there are so many other places to rent from! read more

This place offers a two hour guided bike tour in Central Park for $45 so I ended up paying $42.15 - super easy to book online. There's three time slots 9 am/11 am/130 pm. They ask about a $2.19 insurance (optional) - maybe it's a scam maybe not but I really didn't want the hassle of something going wrong and it seemed nominal enough. They do keep your government issued ID while you're out on the ride. Helmets are optional - only mandatory for under 16. You get a basket to add to your bike if you want. The bikes didn't feel like it was in the best shape. Guide Damien was awesome and just entertaining overall. He does ask if you're ok riding into traffic because there is a short portion to and from the park that requires you to be in traffic. Something about being in NYC traffic and feeling like you could be hit to bring that adrenaline up. We had a small group so it was enjoyable. I can't say if I would enjoy a bike tour with more then 10 people. You get a good enough history lesson on the park and enough tidbits on pop cultural things like movies that were shot here as well as info on the skyscrapers lining the park. There's a few stops to take pics and walk around briefly but you're essentially going around the park which is a six mile around. There were some parts we cut through that were quite bumpy with worn out grass and tree roots which were kinda tricky and could lead to a spill. There is some uphill and downhill parts and Damien goes at a good speed. So I would say that you have to be in ok shape to do this. And you should feel comfortable on a bike - staying on a bike path, some street traffic and hills. Overall a fun couple of hours that helped give me a good overview of the park for me to discover on my own. read more

This was a highlight to our NYC trip! Our tour guide, Joel, was fantastic and gave us a thorough history of the tour stops. The bikes road well and were comfortable. The tour was a lot of stopping but that gave the opportunity for pictures and learning about the stops. Ashley and the team at the shop were super helpful! The store is small but they have a great system for moving people through. They have great shirts too! Not a cheesy I love NYC shirt. We bought 2 and went back for another to take as a gift. Only did this rental because of the Groupon. Customer Service is not so good. The guy who was at the register asked me questions, but I swear I can not understand what he was saying. He was the cashier who was giving a lady before us attitude and being rude to her because she had an issue. So I was thinking to myself Oh great, im next. Overall, the 2 hrs for $10 was not a bad deal. . The line can be long. Some people returning their bikes are rushing to return it in time and asked me if they can go ahead of me.. it was pretty funny because it was only like a minute or so late and they were still tripping of not being able to return the bikes on time. This company has been around for a while and I have always enjoyed smooth transactions and experiences. Assembly line type operations, which helps with the smooth experience. Tourists, they are straight forward, so no need to be worried about being scammed. Recommendation to company: bikes seem relatively new compared to other bike rental companies, but try to maintain the bikes better. My bike chain kept coming loose when I switched gears. This review is only for a two hour bike rental, not a tour. I was impressed. First off I got a GROUPON for this which I got to save more money! I called and did not have to reserve bikes ahead of time, lady on the phone was very nice. I think it's a pretty organized operation. At first walking in the bikes are all lined up outside they are all Cannondale... nice brand and heavy duty. You walk in, lines are clearly labeled to pick up bikes or drop off. You pay...we opted not for the insurance as we can ride and felt confident, we also knew we would not be riding on the streets. I felt bad because the whole page before us opted for the insurance which was like $2-4 so making the extra buck. They do "highly recommend" it as each bike is $600 each. They gave us a map, helmet, basket to hold our stuff on the front of the bike (which didn't cost extra unlike other places) and then we were off. I really don't think 2 hours was enough for Central Park, I would have opted for 3-4, but it was really nice and we had plans later on so could go any longer. Easy return. Make sure to keep your receipt you will need that to drop off the bikes. They checked the time and we were done. Bike Tour Review: I booked the tour through Explorer pass and reservations were made over the phone a day before the bike ride. I can't say that customer service is exceptional (at the check-in/check-out counter anyway), but I did not find the staff rude either. I have one complain though - they spray Lysol on the helmets. I mean... I don't know if this will kill lice at all - I am talking a out the drug resistant one. Neither will it make the chin-straps non-absorbent to people's perspiration. So yea, I did take one, but didn't use it. I suggest you bring your own if you have one. Also, my bike didn't have a stand which was a tad bit annoying whenever we stopped, so make sure to check for those. There is a basket available for your purse/murse. Oh, one more thing, pee if you have to before coming here! If you don't mind Lysol on used helmets and/or stand-less bikes, any complains that you can possibly have about the rude staff will not really matter because what's going to make or break the bike trip, is...well, the bike tour in itself. I was with a tour group led by Damien (or Damian?) and I had so much fun! He was very friendly, entertaining, and knowledgeable about NY history and real estate surrounding Central Park (which I was more interested in :D). We stopped at beautiful areas of the park and not only did he serve as a tour guide and entertainer, he was our photographer too! I went solo and did not feel out of place at all. Take note that since you are with a group, it is likely that you cannot go at a fast pace as other people will have to be waited on when re-grouping. Bought their used kryptonite lock for $20 2 weeks ago in-store. Tested it before I walked out, no problem. Sold. The next day that I used it and left it outside with my bike, it already started to give wear and tear. 3 out of the 4 rings inside the lock aligned, but the last one, which is the deepest, cannot be adjusted and realign with the other 3 and the key began to bend. The lady said she wouldn't refund me my $20, which would've helped me buy a saw to cut off my lock attached to my bike. DAN was a GREAT tour guide and definitely made the tour fun. He impressed me before the tour even started by introducing himself to every one in our group, young and old. He kept us safe, but kept us moving - stopping often enough for some great photos, but keeping the pace up to keep it fun. The tour was full of facts and interesting tidbits about the park and the people who lived in the big apartment buildings lining it. Well worth it! Many many bike rental companies for New York Central Park, stay away from this one! We specifically asked when checking in if we could drop off at a different location. The answer was 'yes', little did we know when we tried to do it 2 hours later there was a $5 charge/bike. That put us over our two hour limit and had to pay for another hour rental just to take them back. The bikes were bad and it was a huge cluster when we checked in. Worst part, the dude on the end where we tried to drop them off just laughed at us. He was such a smug asshole! Terrible experience. read more

I have had the opportunity to do bike tours in many major US cities, and, unfortunately, this was by far the worst. I'm not usually one to give bad reviews, but I felt that my experience was bad enough to warrant one. 1) The office staff were all international. One would think this would be fantastic because it makes them relatable to more people. Unfortunately, that was not the case. They were pushy with amenities, even when we said no. They required we keep a form of ID at the office while we were out on the tour, which I've never seen done before, and they were not very polite to us at all. 2) We took the Brooklyn Bridge bike tour. Typically a tour size is between 5-10 people. We had over 20 on the tour. We could never stay together. In fact, I got separated from the group for a good half hour because I was unable to switch gears properly and was unable to initially make it up the Manhattan bridge. We drove a lot through the city, obviously, and we could not all make it through the numerous stoplights together. Maybe choosing a different path might have been better, because the stoplights were too frequently red and it was ride for a second stop, ride for a second stop the whole time. It was pretty awful. 3) The whole experience of the bike ride was not enjoyable. There was no initial talk about what the tour would be like. The streets were crowded, the bridges were even worse, and it was pretty intense for a person who hasn't ridden in a while. I actually fell because there was too large of a crowd on the Brooklyn bridge, and the bell on my bike was broken. I ended up scrapping up my elbow because of it. Plus, there was no water provided. You had to purchase it for $2. I've never been on a bike tour where 1 bottle of water was not part of the package. 4) Lastly, while our tour guide was quite friendly, there was no real tour given. We rode to several key spots, but she had no voice amplifier, and if you weren't close enough, you couldn't hear a thing she said. All in all, this tour was not worth the hassle or the money spent. I would not recommend it to anyone until some improvements are made. The only redeeming quality of the tour was a visual we saw of the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge against the setting sun and the caring nature of 1, I repeat -only 1, of the office staff on hand that day - that being our tour guide. For such a strategic city with a lot of international and domestic tourism, they should have a better program already put into place so that an experience like this does not take place. read more

Only explored about a third of the whole park, but was so impressed with it. It has little secrets everywhere and makes you feel like you're out of this world. Not very many bathrooms or proper places to eat, but a perfect place for walking, biking, or exploring. My students and I rented 23 bikes from Unlimited Biking with Central Park Sightseeing at 56 W. 26th St. New York, MY. Here's how our experience went: 1. Katie, the manager, texted me the wrong address. We ended up 4 blocks away from the store and late for our reservation. 2. One of the bike had a chain that came loose as soon as my student got on. He fixed it himself. 3. 5 minutes in, One of the bikes had bad breaks and My student fell off her bike. I had my entire group wait since I am in charge of all of their safety. We tried to fix the breaks but couldn't and we called Katie She said they would have to walk the bike back and get a new one, so my husband and the student (who cried the whole way back) went back to the store. 4. We started to leave the park in plenty of time, but 2 more bikes wouldn't stop switching gears and my kids kept falling off. I stopped the whole group again to try to fix it, but couldn't. 5. My husband called 11 minutes before our hour was up and said they were not going to give us any extended time even though it was the broken bikes that held us up. At this point I asked my only other adult to go on with the kids who's bikes were still working and I walked with the 2 other students. 6. I arrived at 5:12 and the man outside checking the bikes was still collecting all of my students' wrist bands and writing the time on them. Everyone one in my group was there by 5:12. 7. I went inside to speak to Katie who was rude and short with me immediately, before I even said anything defensive. She said she didn't charge me for 6 bikes on overtime but since my group wasn't all back by 5:15, she was charging me for the rest of them. Please keep in mind she refused to tell my husband that we could have an extend time to get back. And we were definitely 100% back before 5:15. I am a frequent visitor to the city. My student perform in Carnegie Hall at leave once every 2 years. I Do a lot of research and organizing for these trips and in my 10 years as a teacher, I've never had such a terrible experience. These kids worked hard to get here and the trip costs a lot of money. Thus was supposed to be an affordable, fun experience. It turned into the opposite because we were given broken bikes. Katie kept saying the bikes were new. The broken bikes had 2016 on them. They were not new. My students should not have to pay more money because we were given broken bikes. read more

Never.again. I was in NYC on a tight schedule and had just a few hours for a nice bike ride in Central Park. I purchased a groupon for a killer deal on a 4 hour bike ride. Found the place and had to wait almost 20 minutes because they were having computer problems. When they finally got around to helping me, it was a quick transaction. Showed them the groupon, grabbed a bike and was on my way. They were nice enough to give me a map of Central Park. 20 minutes into my bike ride, I found myself on the far north side of Central Park with a flat tire. My map said if I had any trouble to call the number and they would send someone out to fix the bike. So, when I called I was shocked to find out that the solution was to walk my bike back to the shop. When I referred to what the map said, the response was, "Well, we are really busy right now." So, an hour and a half later, I finally made it back to the shop. They offered a free rental, but I don't live in the city and don't have time to take the bike out again. So, what did I get? A free bottle of water. There are plenty other places to get a bike in NYC. Stay away from this place. read more

Ok, I'm staring to feel like a grumpy city person when I read reviews and people complain about the "unfriendly" people... I thought the guys were busy, and trying to maintain a sense of calm in a sea of crazy tourists some of whom weren't communicating clearly or just standing in the middle of everything saying nothing... In the middle of the chaos 1 of the 2 guys at the front checked us in, wrote down our yelp promo code, offered us the insurance (2.00 per bike! Get it!!! What if your bike is stolen?? Or broken?), told us their terms and conditions, took our ID as a way to ensure we would bring the bike back (this seems TOTALLY NORMAL to me) and then sent us to the bike guy to adjusted the bike for me and gave me a lock. Total price (with yelp deal) for 2.5 hours and insurance for 2 bikes, 7.50, yup... Under 10 bucks... How can you NOT use this place? Tips: 1. Send 1 person in the store to sign up 2. Bring an ID! 3. All the accessories, (helmets, locks, etc) are free, but you have to ASK for them 4. We called ahead to see if there were bikes and the guy was curt on the phone, but when you see the chaos you get it 5. We went in the fall, and it was busy, I'm sure in the summer it is chaos. Try not to stand in the middle of the store looking confused, if you have a question ask one of the guys working, they're nice! 6. Get the insurance - what would you do if someone stole the bike or vandalized it while locked up? New York is a big city with lots of jerks, don't be a victim! 7. Be patient and remember herding cats is a tough job and they are probably doing the best they can 8. No bathroom, but the pizza place next door has one, just walk in like you own it and head straight to the stairs on the right hand side. No one asked me a thing! 9. Our bikes were in pretty good condition, we checked them before we took off just in case. They even had the squishy seats and basket options if you want it! The staff here is completely uneducated, rude and have no work etiquette. They even go far to accuse you when you report a bike is broken. I rented a bike from them and did not need to change gears until after riding for a while. When I tried, I noticed the gear was broken and didn't change. When I brought back the bike I told them the gear was broken. 2 different employees refused any responsibility. The first guy kept saying that their bikes are never broken. I asked him: 'ok try changing gears then?' He tried and it didn't work. He wanted to take away the bike, but I told him 'No. Keep it in front of my eyes and I want to be validated that this bike is broken'. So we took the bike inside. This time the second guy confirmed that the gear was broken. Guess what happened? He started accusing me of breaking the bike!! HOW CAN YOU ACCUSE A CUSTOMER OF BREAKING A BIKE WHEN THEY ARE THE ONES THAT REPORT AND INSIST THAT IT IS BROKEN? I was just expecting an apology and all I got was dishonest staff throwing accusations to cover their mistake. These kind of places should go out of business. read more

Super irresponsible staff! They will charge you for extras right away, instead for any refunding, you have to wait weeks to the get it back! They've told me their system is down and I have to email them with my information to get the refund, I emailed 3 times, called 5 times during the past three weeks, and still haven't got my money back! My friend and I rented bikes with them (as part of the Explorer pass) to go through Central Park. The good: *They are friendly, for the most part (there was an older man who was a grumble-pants and seemed frustrated by the humans) *The bikes seemed to be in decent condition and weren't overly heavy *They had baskets for the bikes which were handy *They also have locks for the bike should you plan on making stops along the way *Its nice to show up at the park with a bike already, so that you dont get mobbed by the bike rental folks there The not so good: *It took about 15-20 minutes for us to get our bikes. By the time you get to the park, you really have just about an hour to ride, which isnt much. *The getting the bike part seemed chaotic..there wasn't a clear process to follow and the shop is so narrow, people coming in with bikes were bumping into people trying to leave. *You have to attempt to walk or ride your bike a couple of blocks to get to the park. Scary on the roads if you aren't an experienced city biker and sidewalks are packed with people, even during the week. It was a bit stressful They will ask for and hold onto government issued picture ID so a) make sure you bring some and b) try not to freak out about leaving your ID behind while you go ride. I know, it felt weird to us too, but it was what we had to do to take the bikes (one piece of ID does it for more than one bike though) They also have a little fridge with cold drinks you can buy - great for a hot day. read more
