I thoroughly enjoyed CRG Harvard square. They had a sick selection of interesting holds, volumes, and macros. Vibes were impeccable.

I spent about 2 hours here and was quite humbled but enjoyed the experience. The bouldering area is expansive, with a wide range of problems for all skills levels. They have slab and walls with a various levels of overhang. I noticed they had a wall that catered to beginners as well, which is awesome for people starting out. Even during peak hours after work on a weekday, the gym didn't feel super packed and it was easy to get on the wall whenever. The open setup is also nice to see all the problems and what people are working on from one spot. This CRG also boasts a solid lifting area in the back with free weights and power racks, along with a few cardio machines. They have multiple training boards, hang boards, and a pull-up area. Free chalk bags are available at the front, along with self-serve rental shoes. The membership is a bit pricey ($125/month), but they do have classes like yoga included, as well as access to other CRGs. Overall, excellent bouldering gym, excited to go back and try more problems!

The gym has a good amount of bouldering, mainly intermediate V4-6 and some top-roping with quite a few autobelay routes. There are yoga classes twice a week which is included in a membership though I have yet to try a class. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard climbing gym with interesting climbs, especially for beginner and intermediate climbers. They have a room full of bike racks as soon as you walk in which is nice, as someone who bikes to the gym. The facility is pretty large with a lounging area, training areas, plenty of storage space, and clean bathrooms. You do have to bring your own chalk (or rent gear which comes with chalk), and the chalk that is for sale in the store is not that great in my opinion and doesn't fully coat the fingers.

It's suitable for all skill levels - even true beginners. I love that they have a tier level below v0 which has made it so much easier to get introduced to climbing. They also have top roping at this location along with all sorts of classes and an event space! The only drawback of this place is that it does tend to get crowded in the evenings during peak times and also there's almost guaranteed for there to always be a few kids birthday parties over the weekends but generally it's contained to one area of the gym so it's not too distracting.

My group isn't made up of serious climbers, but we had a lot of fun and felt like there were definitely enough climbs to try and of all levels. The staff when we went were chill and friendly. The gym itself was much smaller than anticipated. Staff was helpful but part of the wall was closed making access even more limited. The climbing wall was rather small even if that section was open. The gym area had enough equipment to lift and improvise other work outs. They only had one of two showers operable, as one shower was filled with storage. When I went to use the operable shower I was told not to take a hot shower or not to be longer than 10 minutes because it would set off the fire alarm and sprinklers in the whole building. I found it strange but there was a fire alarm/detector in the bathroom so I set a timer. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. More than one days worth of hair in the shower. Grime on the walls and floors. The bathroom area outside of the shower was also dirty. Before I showered staff went into the bathroom to fill his mop bucket and mopped the entire floor in the main climbing area but didn't touch the bathroom itself. I would not recommend this gym if you are passing through and looking for a space to climb and hang out like we were.

Wow-wee. I've been taking most of my yoga classes at Yoga Six in Wellesley but was looking for…read moresomething a tad hotter. The C2 class made me look like I had climbed out of a swimming pool afterwards. Not for the faint of heart (literally) but that was my fault - I should've started with the C1 class, which is less heated and slower-paced. PRE-CLASS: It was my first time doing CorePower and, I don't know, I was expecting a little more of an introduction/explanation when I checked in. Maybe I'm spoiled by the OrangeTheory introduction when the instructor walked me through everything and took the time to go over where everything was. Here, all I was told was that we'd be in studio __. I wandered around aimlessly and found the lockers, with signs saying locks were available at the front desk. It would've been nice to know that upfront but c'est la vie. Trying to be more zen in the new year. CLASS: Hot, hot, hot. Inga cranked the heat/humidity all the way up. I was a literal puddle about five minutes in. As a newcomer to CPY (but not to yoga), I got a lot of the cues mixed up; this is a studio-by-studio and teacher-by-teacher distinction but hearing the poses called by their names (instead of "crescent lunge with right foot back") took a while getting used to. Also, the playlist wasn't ... great. Some love ballads mixed with hard rock. Just give me the elevator violin music or nothing at all. The flow for the class was quick and fast-moving, with lots of one-legged variations, and you are encouraged to take breaks but the break itself was so short before the teacher would move on. It got so hot at one point that I seriously contemplated leaving the room. Bring plenty of water and one extra towel. POST-CLASS THOUGHTS: The studio itself felt cramped; the class was only about half-full but I'm not sure a packed sardine-type class would be enjoyable with so much sweat pouring out of every orifice. I did wish that, for savasana (aka, my favorite pose), the temperature could be turned down several notches. Or CPY could offer cold hand towels after (sorry, spoiled by Yoga Six). Also - there is definitely a sweaty funky smell. Like 8/10 on a scale of funkiness. Unescapable and inevitable, for sure. Sorry to keep drawing comparisons but one of the features that I like a lot about Yoga Six is that there, the ventilation seems much better. Parking: Abundant, free parking. This is probably what's going to make me come to the Fresh Pond CPY location over the other ones in Boston or Cambridge.

WOW, this studio is huge and beautiful! Definitely the nicest one in MA…read more It's so spacious, there are 2 floors. The bathrooms are super clean (feels like a hotel bathroom, to be honest), tons of stalls and shower stalls and the drinking water fountain is fast/cool. Only thing is it's not the most public transport friendly unlike other CPY studios, it took me like ~15 ish mins to walk from Alewife station. There IS Parking though.
