I have been using facilities of MIT recreation for two years and so far everything is satisfying. This is my favorite sports place in Boston. Service Open for public. You can purchase day pass or other membership at the front desk. They also offer some sports drink and MIT sports shirts. Lockers and sauna I love this place because of its convenient and spacious locker space in DuPont. There are always open lockers for daily use if you don't rent a locker. There's also a sauna room in the locker room, which makes showering after work out much more refreshing and enjoyable. Fitness room You can overlook the swimming pool or even the jumping platforms! from here. Swimming pool Nice and clean water in a space with high ceiling. I love it. Ice Rink This is a nice professional rink for both ice hockey and skating. I come here only during public skating hours in winter. They have a schedule online showing when it's open for public. Rental is available inside. Acceptable price. They also have sharpening shop.

I've been a member for many years. I typically just use the Z-Center pools; they're about as good as it gets. Unfortunately, the showers and locker rooms are poorly maintained; towards the end of the day they can be downright filthy! Membership prices are the same, regardless of what time you use the facility, so there's no excuse for not cleaning it regularly throughout the day! It took a long time for me to "win" a locker in the Z-Center. Unfortunately, many lockers remain unused- for years -as evidenced by the thick layer of dust visible through the sides. It's too bad they're not recycled to others, which would free up more day lockers for everyone. It's also a shame that the facility has reduced hours during Holiday breaks and especially during the summer. That's the very time that many people have a little extra time on their hands and perhaps even a little more motivation to get in shape. All-in-all though, the Z-Center is one of the (many) things I love about MIT and I'm very grateful to be able to swim there... it's inspiring! The desk staff are always friendly and the lifeguards are wonderful; in all the years I've been swimming there, I've never noticed anyone drown!

The pool is top notch. A bit expensive for the guy off the street but the best option in Cambridgeport for total fitness.

Over the last 15 years I have been coming to the studio on & off. Life has been kicking my ass as it has most of us since 2020 & this past summer I reached my healing warrior limit & realized that I had done much work on healing my emotional & mental wounds, but not physical ones. I had no idea what to except when I started this training, but let me tell you it has exceeded my expectations. Be In Union is just that. It is a powerful community space to Be In Union with yourself & others in the community who we share more in common with than we realize. I always just "did yoga". After these 3 months I now understand what it means to have a practice. I highly recommend taking the ride to this sacred, energetic space to take classes. Know that you can show up as your are, even if you simply made it on the mat & lay there for yourself. The Yoga Teacher training was truly life changing for me. My intention was never to be a teacher, I simply wanted to get back in touch with & heal my body. I am grateful that I am now part of this community I never knew I really had, yet have been part of for 15 years. Goes to show how if we push ourselves past our comfort zones things "we never imagined" are possible. This teacher training was one of the best investments that I have made in myself.

They offer gentle assists, anatomically safe instruction (Jenna is meticulous about this), and the right balance of challenge and variation for all levels. I come from a different tradition than Jenna's training but have always left learning something new, and appreciating her style, humility and compassion. The space is warm, beautifully done with a combination of greenery, that reclaimed wood post and beam architecture, and clean lines. There's not a lot of Hindu influence here - their music selections are mostly ambient, modern relaxation or upbeat tracks that don't compete with instruction. Don't get confused -- enter through the Main St. door, as if you were going to the bank, but keep going into the building, and up the first half flight of stairs, you're there! This is a wonderful business in Medford, I want to help hang permanent decal signs on the windows, as it's really hard to know that studio is even there. I discovered it by accident when visiting a friend. Gem in Medford. Support a small business owner offering really good yoga with a sincerely open heart.

I took a 90 minute heated flow with Brittney which was probably the hardest yoga class I've ever taken. I literally don't think I've sweat more in my life, but it was amazing. Something that is different than this Yoga Studio than others is the lack of mirrors. I always find myself staring at myself and getting distracted, and during these flows I was more present in the moment. I also really enjoyed Gregor and Claire's heated flows. I haven't done a regular flow because I prefer the heat. I am currently enjoying a newcomer special that is $30 for 30 days, and think I will purchase a membership after. The only problem is I drive here, and parking can sometimes be challenging on Massachusetts Ave.

The studio is conveniently located near the Porter Square T stop and has plenty of nearby parking, making transportation easy. And, importantly, it's a judgement-free zone. If you need to modify your practice or take unscheduled breaks in class, no one will bat an eye. In fact, teachers encourage it. All great things. THE NOT SO GOOD: My first time at the studio, no one helped orient me to the space. I found myself asking dozens of questions, gradually annoying the front desk staff. I wish someone recognized I was new to Down Under and provided a brief tour. Down Under also seems to disregard the comfort of its students. Recently, the water fountain and upstairs bathroom in the studio were out of service. Only the basement bathroom had running water. For a hot yoga studio, providing access to water seems essential. But, during the water shutdown, the only option was to go to the basement and fill up your water bottle from the bathroom tap (which only dribbled lukewarm water). Worst of all, the water issue lasted for several days. The whole experience wasn't just inconvenient, it also felt callous of Down Under to not provide a basic thing like hydration. They could have offered bottled water (even for a fee) or put up a temporary water station with one of those large Gatorade jugs. But, no: the only option was lukewarm tap water from the dank basement bathroom. Every day I went to class, there were at least 2-3 students waiting impatiently (often dripping in sweat since the studio is regularly heated to 105 degrees) before and after practice. The Porter Square location is also just janky. I've heard staff describe it as "old school" or "vintage." These are euphemisms for what it really is: an aging space lacking amenities. I've been to the more modern and amenity-filled Down Under studios in Harvard Square and Central Square. Changing rooms, tiled private showers, pilates rooms, etc. exist at these other locations. In Porter Square? You'll have to change clothes in a curtained off area that barely provides privacy. I've had someone walk in on me while changing twice. More annoying is the fact that the changing rooms in the studio are often pitch dark. Since they are in the corner, little daylight reaches them and staff do not turn on the corner lights before or after class. So, you're stuck changing in the dark. With all the investments made in other studios, you'd think Down Under could upgrade basic things in Porter Square like changing spaces with latched doors. Nope. Yet another example of the studio's disregard of students' comfort. Still, I retain my monthly membership. Why? Well, I was initially drawn in when I read Down Under's website which proudly proclaims it is "America's Best Yoga, Pilates, and Fitness." I disagree. It's not America's best. It's just the least worst option in Cambridge.

When you arrive, note that the yoga studio is located in the same building as Life Alive, a health restaurant. Personal preference, I enjoyed the class at Hotbox much more. The room itself was a bit cramped and I accidentally touched the feet of the person behind and beside me. That being said, I enjoyed the experience of hot yoga and left feeling refreshed. Be sure to bring your own yoga mat, as they require you to rent them otherwise (seems odd to me, as the classes are already quite expensive and the rental mats were of low quality).
