I really like my initial psychiatrist but she moved so I was assigned to a new psychiatrist. I was being drug tested for my meds and was 3 months worth of tests in when I received a letter that I had failed one of my drug tests and they wouldn't be renewing my prescription. When I contacted them to ask them why since I don't do drugs, they said that I had very high levels of the active ingredient in NyQuil. I had been up front and honest about taking it once a week. Why would they not tell me they test for it when I told them I was taking it? The new psychiatrist even accused me of not disclosing it, though I remember sitting in her office and telling her I did take it once a week. If I knew they were testing for it I would have stopped taking it. The test is a saliva swab and I take the drinkable version of NyQuil so of course it would show up. If I took the pills it wouldn't have shown at all. They then said it was high on all 3 tests...why did they not tell me after my first drug test? After 3 months they seemed to pull the rug out from underneath me without even letting me know issues as they arise...I felt mislead and falsely accused which are two things that you do not want to have happen with a psychiatrist. read more

I've gone to Central Texas Mental Health for over 7 years now and highly recommend them to friends or anyone else I come across looking for good quality psychiatric care. It was very difficult when I first began searching for a psychiatrist for help treating my depression - everyone either didn't take my insurance anymore, wasn't accepting new patients, was retired, or had a 6 month waitlist, etc. A friend told me about them, and although it was and still is out of my way, it was worth it. They got me in right away for an appointment, and I've always been able to get appointments reasonably quickly since then. Please know, you can see the same practitioner every time and stick with the same person. It just worked out that based on availability/convenience, I ended up scheduling appointments with a couple different practitioners here and there. The practitioner I've met with most of the time is Julie Williams, PA, who still works there. She is always compassionate and thorough, as was Renee Moreland, who I saw during a particularly rough couple of years when my previous meds seemed to stop working and she has sadly since moved on to work elsewhere. I met with the head honcho, Dr. Michael Musgrove, a few times, and he was kind and professional. I only met with one other practitioner one time - for some reason I got auto-assigned to her after Renee left, even though I'd met with Julie in the past and she was still there - who was just "okay" but I didn't feel she was all that warm in her approach. So I switched back to Julie and things have been great for me since then. The front desk staff are very friendly and professional as well. There was only one time in over 7 years where the front desk staff were busy and not quite as professional as they should have been (nothing terrible) - I politely mentioned this once I got into my session, and a few days later I received a handwritten note and gift card thanking me for my feedback! read more

For starters, due to the way I was raised - I've had an aversion to therapy, psychiatry and medications for *most* forms of mental illness. I finally broke down and realized that I was not going to be able to fix the problems by myself and made an appointment on a recommendation. Going in I was more nervous than I had been in a long time (think job interview), leaving I felt a complete weight off my shoulders. The front desk staff were incredibly nice and patient, and the PA-C (Caitlin) that I spent the better part of two hours talking to was incredibly kind. I was very self aware that I was going on and on and maybe missing the question. In truth, I might have taken more of their time than was allotted in their schedule - that being said, they never at one point made me feel this way. She was incredibly easy to talk to (and this is coming from someone who had anxiety even talking to a professional about private problems) and it felt really good to find someone who seemed to genuinely care about what I was describing. I also spoke with Dr. Musgrove who seemed like a very nice and genuine fellow. He was very patient with all of my questions and thorough in his answers. I work in the medical field, and I can safely say that this is not ALWAYS the case. I will definitely be continuing my treatment from this facility and for the first time in a little while, I'm very optimistic about the future. If you're on the fence about seeing someone about a mental health problem, I would urge you to not put it off. I wish I didn't, and I highly recommend Central Texas Mental Health. read more

Unless you already have your medication figured out and need someone to maintain your prescriptions, I would not recommend this place. They don't know what they are doing with medication switches or finding the right combination. The actual psychiatrist has a very long wait list and so they want you to see one of their PAs. Unfortunately the resources for mental health in the Austin area is poor and the majority of the places that take patients currently and also insurance operate this way. It's all about $$$ read more

Dr. Musgrove and Mariya Bobrovnyk are absolutely amazing. I mainly see ms. Bobrovnyk now and she listens to all of my needs. They have me on the right medications. Before this clinic, I fought hard with different psychiatrists. It's relieving to not have to fight anymore. The staff is amazing, pleasant, and they're always on top of everything. I found ctmh online when I needed a sudden medication refill after as issue with my old doctor's office. they were booked out but the receptionist was very kind and called me the day after with a space almost a month earlier. everyone I've talked to has been great and responds quickly over email. they made getting personalized ESA papers for my dogs in a matter of hours and refill prescriptions quickly. definitely going to stick with them. read more

The assessment is way too long.. The psychiatrist asks tons of questions with no responses.. just says okay. They wouldn't give me the medication that I needed for anxiety. They instead tried to give me 2 separate meds for anxiety. They didn't do a good job understanding my mental health problems. They way over prescribed medication and didn't listen to feedback. Finally I went for labs and they forgot the attach the order. This place is sloppy wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

I like Dr Musgrove's style of treating patients. He is very patient with me and I am one of those patients who research everything, such as primary and secondary literatures. When I suggest new drug or switch med, he is very patient. (I always ask very politely and tell him the research that I do.) His staffs are very good at getting prior authorization done. I was on a SNRI and it worked great. It was just I don't like the side effects. Then a new drug came on the market and I politely suggested to Dr Musgrove. He took my advice and switched my drug. My insurance won't pay for it and his office took care of the prior authorization like a champ! I bring in my lab results every visit and I always tell Dr Musgrove what a compliant patient I am. (And I am!) PS I have a doctorate degree in pharmacy. I am also very polite and patient. If you are nice to people, most people will be nice to you. read more

Going to a Psychiatrist is nerve racking, I have been to many over the years. Accepting the fact that one's quality of life can be controlled by someone else can be a sign a weakness is a false pretense. This quality of life avenue has changed my life by getting me what I NEED to function at a high level in society. I have suffered from severe anxiety where going to any social function I feel suffocated, depression spells dwelling on the past, and ADHD where I can't focus on a task without my mind spinning to uncontrollable thoughts for years. I suffer no longer. My decisions are definitive, sleep quality increase of 110%, eagerness to greet/engage with others and focus on my future actions are spot-on. Instead of feeling like I am sitting on the sidelines I am involved in activities to make myself better. Not only for me but for those around me. So my wife sees a PA for Dr. Musgrove and has had nothing but good things to say. My complaint is that when I decided to seek out help for my ADHD I was told it is office policy that they do not see married couples. Now I can understand not seeing a married couple when you are in therapy but for drug management it makes no sense. No where on their website is this listed so you waste your time filling out their forms just so they can reject you. read more

I've always been very skeptical as to whether or not psychiatrists actually provide lasting help instead of just a handfull of pills to walk away with. I spent my teen years in the suburban sprawl of Round Rock, and all throughout highschool I'd see rich white kids go into these facilities with imagined problems and emerge with nothing more than 5 different prescriptions to validate said imagined problems. Needless to say, it took a lot for me to make the final step to see a psychiatrist after years of having close friends and family suggest that it may actually help me work through my long-confirmed anxiety and depression issues. After receiving a referral from my general practitioner that many people went to see Dr. Musgrove, I figured I'd give it a shot. It took a while to actually find the facility - which is in the backside of what looks to be a converted house - you have to go up a staircase and the office is in a back room, it was a bit of a challenge even for someone without mental health problems. After a bit of a wait, I was called into a side room by Dr. Musgrove's assistant who proceeded to ask me all the preliminary stuff. "No, I'm not suicidal" "Yes, I have pretty bad anxiety" "No, I'm not suicidal" "Yes, I have bad panic attacks" "No, I'm not an alcoholic" "Yes, I get depressed fairly often" "No, I'm definitely not suicidal" You know, nothing crazy or too severe for a 21 year old female. I figured that since most of our short talk centered around anxiety, they would have figured out that I have anxiety issues - not to mention the fact that I've been, you know, diagnosed with it for over a year now. I was then led back to the crowded waiting room to await Dr. Musgrove's verdict. When I finally was pulled back into the side room, Musgrove comes out for 2 seconds to tell me: "We're taking you off lexapro" "Even though you've been prescribed klonopin, we aren't giving you any" "We're putting you on Pristiq, start taking it as soon as possible" "We're putting you on a sleep aid" "Bye" Then he disappears into his office and I was printed out a Drugs.com facts sheet to tell me what Pristiq actually does, and as I'm reading it, I realize it really has nothing to do with anxiety management at all - in fact anxiety is a common side effect of it. I also bring up to the assistant that I'm having intensive surgery done within the week and the sheet was very clear that no painkillers (including tramadol, ibuprofen, asprin- ANYTHING) were to be used as they lowered the seizure threshold because - yes - this new antidepressant causes seizures. She just tells me to talk to my doctor about it. Right, that'll make it better. I walk up to the reception desk just in time to see a drug representative handing them boxes upon boxes of Pristiq samples. Real sleek, guys! I thought I was finally done with this botched experiment of a psychiatrist appointment and was signing out, when out of nowhere the gum-smacking receptionist reaches out through the glass to hand me a blood pressure bracelet. Yes, I was to take my blood pressure at the reception desk and why did I have that odd look on my face about it? I left the place feeling far more mentally unhealthy than before entering. How the hell does that work? This place has done well to cement my belief that the mental health services in Round Rock are dismissive at best. I will not be coming back again. read more

Dr. Musgrove is good psychiatrist. He is pleasant, down-to-earth, and takes his time with me, answering all of my questions. He is patient and extremely responsive. I highly recommend him to anyone, but especially anyone seeking treatment for AD/HD and insomnia. read more

Dr. Musgrove is actually the only psychiatrist on my whole insurance's provider list that would give me an appointment and see me. I have had absolutely no issues. He didn't ask any stupid questions or try to push any medications on me. He was very understanding of my history, and unlike all other doctors I tried getting an appointment with, didn't assume I was addicted to prescription medications. He is very personable and has no problems getting me the prescriptions I need. I drive from far South Austin to see him and will continue to! Beware of this facility! I was suggested to visit Dr. Michael Musgrove after a trip to Austin Oaks Hospital. There was a initial test that cost over $90 out of pocket to see the doctor! The building was very clean and the girls who answered the phones were nice, however the lady who saw me had a very bad bedside manner. This lady would talk with me very briefly, and than speak with the doctor before coming back and deciding what to prescribe me. This lady treated me like a child and a drug addict, and basically spoke down to me the entire course of our visits. I am indifferent about Dr. Musgrove, seeing as how I only spoke to him for less than a minute. My first visit I was prescribed some non-narcotic medication with no refills, I asked for refills and they refused. Both the doctor and the lady were very brief and unclear. They scheduled a second appointment about two weeks later for me. When I arrived for my second appointment I paid the $20 co-pay and waited in the lobby. When I was called in, I talked to the same lady who continues to talk down to me, she discovered my regular doctor had been taking care of my narcotic anxiety medication and that she would not prescribe more, which was understandable, however she seemed very angry about another doctor managing my anxiety medications and basically kicked me out of the office and refunded my copay. I asked if they would refill my medications they had prescribed me and they said no. I now have to schedule an appointment with my regular doctor and bring the bottles of medications they prescribed me to him and see if he will put refills on them. I went here for help for my depression, anxiety, and stress, and all this place did was make those things worse and cause more of my hair to fall out, not to mention I lost over $100 to those people! They still don't know my name, they still don't return my calls and they still don't know the reason of me being on medication in the first place. I scheduled an appointment with Dr Musgrove in September 2012. With in an hour of scheduling the appointment I attempted to call and cancel but the office was closed. I did however leave a message... I cancelled due to a medical emergency and was being rushed to the hospital and had to have gallbladder surgery. Today almost a year later I called to schedule an appointment as was told I was not able to since I missed my previous appointment.. regardless of why. The very cold receptionist was very non caring as to why. Being that this is a mental health caregiver I think they should be a little more understanding and caring for people. I will be yelling at the top of my lungs to anyone that will hear me that this office does not care about patients only the all mighty dollar! read more

I cannot say they have always been bad. They haven't. Julie is wonderful. The first two and a half years I went there everything was smooth sailing and lovely. However, they recently moved to a new location and got what appears to be new office staff that has jerked me around on more than one or two occasions. Try six or seven. You cannot do that to people who are on medications continously and need constant care because of it. I just want the doctors to know the office staff is causing them to lose business and people are going without proper care. I am sure I am not the only one. After what I have been through in the last six months, I cannot recommend them. Plus, it is very sad that they treat people this way especially the mentally ill who really need their help repeatedly. Anyway, in a nutshell, I have been talked down too, lied to, had prescriptions sent all over hell and back, finally hunt them down and it is the wrong one, not been told I need to make appointments I needed to make to get medications because of an unknown office policy change which was not communicated to me that left me without meds for many days which caused withdrawal and missed work time. I have gone through withdraw several times because of the treatment received. Most recenty after all of this I made an appointment and showed up. Then they told me I did not have an appointment and I was not on the schedule. Yes, in a very unprofessional manner I hit the roof. After what has been going on, I do not think anyone could blame me. I do kinda feel bad about it but it was the last straw. I only have depression and anxiety. I am extremely worried about people who go there who have other issues that cannot withstand this treatment and it causes them severe problems even hospitalization. I am sure Dr. Musgrove is lovely but his staff needs another overhaul. Honestly, I would love to talk to either him or Julie about it, but I am sure this will only be seen by the office staff who will not inform them. I will not be returning. Sad because I liked Julie a lot. I almost did not write this review because to do so I have to admit I was under their care and a lot of people stigmatize mental illness. In addition, I am pretty laid back. I know mistakes happen and we are all human. However, I think it extremely important to let people know what they are getting into with this office, and I really did give them a lot of chances. read more

I absolutely do not recommend this place for anybody who expects care and respect from their providers. I recently went to my first appointment with a PA, Shaina, for dr. Musgrove. She was very kind, and very nice, although she is evidently not good at making sure her patients are taken care of the way that she recommends them to be. Dr. Musgrove talked down to me, and made me feel stupid for asking questions and making sure I was comfortable with what they were prescribing me. I left my appointment feeling small and stupid with two prescriptions. I am glad I did my research because what they gave me is appalling. One for Seroquel for sleep, which is not a sleep aid whatsoever. Seroquel makes you drowsy, and is used specifically for people with schizophrenia, something I do not have. There is NO research that says seroquel supports sleep, in fact many say the opposite. In Canada they do not prescribe this medication for sleep because that is not what the active drug is used for. The fact that they prescribed this to me, and many others is insane to me. This medication is not made for me, or for people who do NOT SUFFER FROM SCHIZOPHRENIA. Telling me to take a Tylenol PM would have been much better than telling me to take an antipsychotic. What is that going to do for me? I'm not schizophrenic, I just have trouble sleeping. Moving on, I was also prescribed an antidepressant. Everything was going fine for the first week, then I looked at the instructions on the bottle. Take 1 pill everyday for the first 7 days and then, take two everyday thereafter. I was not prescribed enough of this medication to last me even 4 weeks, and my follow up is 20 days away. I can not request a refill, as this is the first medication I have ever taken like this. I was told by the PA Shaina, that this medication would last me until my next appointment. My first issue is how does that happen? How do you tell me to take this medicine everyday until my next appointment but not give me enough to last? That is just complete lack of attention and care. So, at the beginning of last week, I had 12 days of meds left. I called them, and explained the situation and they informed me that they would have a PA call me back to talk about a refill. Two days go by and nothing, I don't hear from them or my pharmacy. I called them again, same thing, and same result. I went on this back and forth until Monday, 23rd. I called them again, wasn't too nice about it this time. I was supposed to hear from them that day, and heard nothing. At this point I have only 5 days of meds left. The holidays go by, I have 3 days of meds left. Called them yesterday and they said they had sent a prescription over to the pharmacy. I called my pharmacy, and they DO have the prescription, though the way it is written now, a refill would not be covered under my insurance. My pharmacy told me to reach back out to them and tell them what is going on. This happened later in the evening yesterday, around 6pm. I called Cen Tex mental health this morning to talk about what could be done. Cen Tex needed to send a prior approval to my insurance company, which takes 5-7 business days to process. So now, I have 1 day of meds left and will have to pay out of pocket for these pills. If they had done what they needed to from the beginning, or at LEAST when I started calling them about this a week ago, I would have my medication. The lady on the phone told me I could "come pick up some samples" to hold me over, but I work 8-5 every day in south Austin. I can't drive an hour up to Round Rock and back. Their negligence and poor attention to detail and patient complaints and worries is completely unacceptable. Then expecting me to go out of my way to fix YOUR mistakes is misguided. If anything somebody should be bringing those samples to me. I do not think I will be returning after my follow up appointment in January. This place is incompetent, their staff is rude and don't take patient complaints seriously, and Dr. Musgrove is the same. Not only did I have a bad experience during my appointment, but every interaction after that has been terrible. I have been jerked around so many times in the 4 weeks that I have been involved with them. Absolutely do not recommend this place to anyone who wants Dr's and staff to treat them with respect and care. read more

dh went to these ppl for 6 months and only because i was desperate to get him in somewhere; everywhere else was 6 weeks wait list! drugs, take more drugs, try these instead! if this doesn't work, we give up! YOU give up? wth? after the first month i had asked about ECT? they (she) dr assistant julie williams, freaked out, said no way bla, bla, bla. after 6 months of drugs i asked again! same answer, NO WAY! i asked for an explaination and she had none? so we went to another dr who does the magnetic therapy (and used to to ECT) and he said dh was a good candidate for ECT, gave us a referral to ECT DR. Magid. FINALLY! Eight months later and my husband lost his job because of this delay! @#@$%#! after his first ECT treatment he started chatting on the way home (he was comatose and more or less like a zombie) got home said he felt better already and hoped it wasn't the anesthieta (?) and that it wouldn't wear off! he has now done 14 treatments and if he could have gotten them sooner i think he would still have his job! he is so much better and i thank god for the GOOD DR.S who are now treating him! i would not recommend this place for anyone with difficult to treat anxiety and depression! maybe ok for your run-of-the mill PMS? yikes! NO! NO! NO! please keep looking! four months short of retirement!!! thanks to your physicians assistant refusal to do ECT treatments we've lost $40,000 of our well deserved retirement! read more
