We have explained repeatedly that she needs to be evaluated to ensure she is safe and medically appropriate to continue with that treatment, yet we continue to be asked why she was brought here. Instead of working with us and the receiving facility to protect her continuity of care, we are being told she may be kept here for 8-10 days. Meanwhile, billing has already sent paperwork estimating approximately $7,000 for an eight-day stay. It is extremely concerning when the proposed length of hospitalization does not appear to reflect the reason she was sent here or her established treatment plan. I am also concerned about the repeated attempts to put her back on medications she has previously tried and that were not effective for her. Treatment should be individualized and based on her history, current condition, and actual needs--not simply repeating medications that have already failed. My daughter is asking for help. She was receiving help. She has an opportunity to continue receiving that help, and this hospitalization is now putting her available bed and continuity of treatment at risk. As her parent, I want her safety taken seriously, but I also expect the treatment team to listen to her, communicate with her existing providers, consider her previous treatment history, and work toward the appropriate level of care. Right now, it feels less like the focus is on what will actually help my daughter and more like she is simply being held on a unit and offered medications without anyone addressing the treatment plan that is already in place for her. Families deserve transparency about why continued inpatient hospitalization is medically necessary, what specific criteria must be met for discharge, and why transferring her to the facility prepared to continue her treatment is not being pursued.

That started my on my journey to find what would work, as I knew that what I was creating in my life was a result of my childhood programing. The short list includes; Lifespring, beginning and advanced, Transformational Workshops, Tai Chi, meditation, hypnosis, medications, enough self help books to line the entire United States, women's groups, Al-Anon, Co-dependants Anonymous, Adult children of Alcoholics, Chronic PTSD therapy, Brain wave therapy and more. So when I found Anita's ad through an internet search, I was doubtful, but willing to try. My goal was to move forward in my life with dreams that had lived in my heart for decades but just could not work on them because the beliefs about myself were so deep, they felt as if they were in my DNA. I was elated and stunned when after the first session I was able to start my work to reach my goals. Previously, I literally felt sick to my stomach when I thought about doing the work. After three sessions, I have a regular schedule working on my goals and enjoy the work! I have been in some type of therapy for 4 decades and nothing really shifted the beliefs that were under my self confident exterior. Even though I had earned multiple degrees and was successful in many areas, the belief that I was a "joke" and it would be dangerous to do anything that would bring attention to me, drove my choices, I never, ever felt good enough. Now I do and I cannot thank Anita enough. I don't understand how it works, but it works!

This was possibly the single most regrettable mistake I have ever made in my life, and I am a person who once dated a guy into competitive yoyoing. Within fifteen minutes of meeting me, Dr. Calzada had not only ignored everything I had to say but also diagnosed me with borderline (I exhibit no traits of borderline), declared that my depression was a result of the "negative self-image" I'd cultivated due to my parents' "negative treatment of me as a young child" (not true), diagnosed my FATHER with depression and borderline (????), and told me a 20-minute story about an anorexic girl who couldn't recognize that she wasn't overweight and subsequently died (an uplifting, optimistic tale that greatly boosted my spirits). Literally the only reason I didn't get up and leave was because I needed my prescriptions; I spent the entire hour with a fake grin plastered on my face, smiling and nodding and just waiting for the minute hand to tick over until I could finally leave. "He's not going to be your therapist," I told myself internally, grappling with the idea of continuing to see him for medication management, "so you don't actually need to have a rapport with him," but considering I felt more in-tune with a psychiatrist from years ago whose intake paperwork included the question "are you homosexual" (gotta love in-network providers) I could barely imagine myself coming back and subjecting myself to another few months of this. I can't give this practice zero stars, but I suppose they do deserve one star: an appointment was made by the office staff, the chairs were comfortable, I was offered water, and Dr. Calzada did end up writing my prescriptions -- at least, for a medication I couldn't possibly afford. When I reached out to the office to help me fill out some paperwork for a patient assistance program, I learned it would be another $100 for them to help me fill out the paperwork (which I needed because, you know, I couldn't afford my medication). I have not contacted the practice since and, thankfully, neither have they contacted me. If I had a time machine, I'd go back and tell myself to fork out the extra $100-200 to see another psychiatrist. ANY other psychiatrist. Or I'd just buy two of those Bigfoot sculptures and set them on either side of my desk, spurred into productivity by the look of intensity in their twin hand-painted resin-cast visages.
