Great area for dining, night life, shopping, mingling, biking, jogging, treats, dog-walking or just a leisurely stroll through a beautifully historic area of St. Louis. If you live in a virtual world grab a window seat at Starbucks or Coffee Cartel. If you're a drinker Gamblin Whiskey House will have exactly what you need. Chocolate lovers can flock to Bissinger's. Kids (both miniature and full-sized) The Cup has an assortment of cupcakes no one can deny. If smokes are your thing grab a seat outside Brennan's cigar bar or checkout the live entertainment inside the shop as well. Brennan's is also a well known spot chess players. Straub's and Golden Grocer will have specialty grocery items. Drunken Fish and Sub Zero Vodka Bar will handle your sushi needs. If you'd like to catch a movie The Chase park plaza Hotel has a theater inside its main lobby. There's also lounges, a pool, full service spa and restaurants inside as well. Whatever your pleasure, you can't lose exploring elegant CWE. Thanks me later.

Spring in the CWE. It's a beautiful spot for pedestrians!

The Central West End is a Pedestrian's Paradise. Within a concentrated area your feet can carry you to an Oasis of food, fun, and phenomenal people watching. It's also a very pet friendly area. You'll see people walking their fur babies and businesses setting out water and treats. While vehicles do drive through the streets, you'll see far more people than cars. Parking can be a bit like a treasure hunt within the Maryland Plaza area, but there are garages and street options within a few blocks. You just may have to circle once or twice to find your spot. Some of my personal favorites are: - coffee shops: Coffee Cartel, Starbucks, STL Coffee Oasis & Mediterranean Cafe, - restaurants: Pi Pizzeria, Bar Italia, Dressel's, Tortillaria, Little Saigon, Central Table, Brasserie, Taste, El Burro Loco, Scape, The Block, Wild Flower - galleries: Duane Reed, The Vino Gallery - specialty gift stores & boutiques: Cassie's Fragrance, lululemon, The Silver Lady, Bowood Farms, The Great Frame Up, The Vino Gallery - sweet tooth spots: Bissinger's Handcrafted Chocolates, Insomnia Cookies, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream, Fro Yo - the best cupcakes in The Lou: The Cup, a MUST VISIT and deserves a category on it's on - books: STL Public Library, Left Bank Books - adult beverages: Sub Zero Vodka Bar, Gamlin Whiskey House, The Preston, Taste, Retreat Gastropub - delis: Pickles Deli, Straub's - hotels: Chase Park Plaza, Forrest Park Holiday Inn - grocers: Straub's, Whole Foods (new) - movie theatre: Chase Park Cinema - historical architecture: Cathedral Basillica (world famous mosaics), historic district homes - park: the spectacular, Forrest Park Come find your favorites! Even if you've been here before, come back. There are retail and foodie paradise developments that promise new treasures. With every step, taste, sight, and sound, you'll enjoy the CWE!

Great area when nobody gets shot. Lots of restaurants, bars, boutiques. Pleasant walkway. Fountain by Bissingers is one of the favorite spots for picture taking. You can eat food from many countries or chill at the hookah lounge. Grab coffee at Starbucks or coffee cartel. Walk and enjoy historic buildings and old, beautifully designed city lights. Great place for people watching or showing off (; In case you feel guilty for overeating, you can always stop by LuluLemon store and get some stylish yoga apparel and fool yourself into near future frequent workout pledge.

    Soulard - Soulard Market

-- The Lovably Wild Aunt of St. Louis…read more If Soulard were a member of your family, she'd be that crazy aunt you can't help but adore -- the one who shows up already tipsy, tells stories that make your parents cringe, and might just leave with something from your mother's jewelry box. But here's the thing: you'd always ask if she's coming, because she's the life of the party. This neighborhood is pure character -- historic brick buildings, streets meant for wandering, and an endless lineup of bars, restaurants, and live music joints that feel like they've been here forever. Stroll the streets with a drink in hand, pop into a corner pub for some blues, or time your visit for one of the many events that take over the area. From Mardi Gras to market days, Soulard never fails to please the senses... even if it occasionally offends your nose. Honestly, Soulard should lean into its reputation even more -- imagine a Crazy Aunt Run in the spirit of the Mrs. Roper Romp or the Red Dress Run. The crowds are already here, so why not throw in a few more wild, themed events to keep the energy rolling year-round? It's gritty, it's charming, it's unpredictable -- and that's exactly why you'll want to keep coming back.

I can sum up St. Louis' oldest neighborhood in one word -- HOME…read more Since moving to the city five years ago, I've always gravitated to Soulard. From Saturday mornings wandering around the Market to late night bites and brews after Blues hockey games in one of the booths at International Tap House, Soulard has always felt like a warm security blanket to me. Of course today is the day that is most synonymous with Soulard, and walking around the neighborhood you are welcomed with splashes of purple, green and gold hanging from windows and balconies... All screaming "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!" Each year, Soulard hosts one of the most well attended parades in the United States. And every year, the neighborhood shows our country that St. Louis knows how to throw a party. Whether you're smashed against the barricades screaming for beads or enjoying one of the amazing events inside the Bud Light tent in Soulard Market park, this neighborhood welcomes party goers with open arms. But Mardi Gras parties aren't the only reason I love Soulard. There's so much history and character living along the streets within the boundaries of this picturesque neighborhood. Plaques adorn homes and businesses throughout Soulard giving passersby a quick lesson about the stories of the neighborhood's past. One of my personal favorite parts of Soulard is found at the corner of 13th and Pestalozzi Street. The iron eagle above the street screams St. Louis history. Most mornings you can snap a selfie with Anheuser-Busch's iconic dalmations and clydesdales! It feels like rubbing elbows with St. Louis royalty. The residents of Soulard have created one of the most tight knit communities in the entire city. Everyone says hello as they walk their pups and drink ice cold Budweisers all summer long. Golf carts blare music adding to the electric atmosphere each night. And neighbors regularly help one another like shoveling sidewalks and sharing meals. Soulard. I love you!

I never actually saw the inside of the restaurant because one member of our party needed handicap accessibility, and unfortunately the entrance only had steps with no alternate accessible entry available. Thankfully, it was a beautiful evening and we were able to dine comfortably at one of the outdoor tables. Our server was kind, attentive, and very helpful throughout the meal. We started by sharing a few appetizers including the toasted ravioli, which St. Louis is famous for, along with calamari. Both were enjoyable and a great way to begin the meal. The meals came with bread, butter, and a bottle of seasoned oil for dipping, which was a nice touch. My entrée included a salad with a sweet Italian dressing that I absolutely loved -- honestly, I would have been perfectly happy eating a larger portion of just the salad. For my main course, I chose the veal parmigiana. The flavor was good, although the veal itself was slightly tough, and the pasta side came with shells rather than traditional spaghetti. To finish the evening, we shared tiramisu and a cannoli for dessert. Both were enjoyable, but the cannoli definitely won the flavor battle for our table. Overall, despite the accessibility concern, we enjoyed the experience, the service, and many parts of the meal.

One of our traditions is trying a different Italian restaurant each visit based on reviews and recommendations from friends. This time, our party of five chose Mama's, and for most of us it was our first visit. I got a reservation weeks in advance and was clear about what we were celebrating. Starting with the positives, our server was friendly and attentive throughout the evening, and the food was good. Every entree at our table was enjoyable, and nobody left disappointed with their meal. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience fell short of our expectations because of the atmosphere. We were celebrating a significant occasion and were seated in the basement dining area. The space felt very sterile, with white walls, white floors, and a white ceiling. It lacked the warmth, charm, and character that many of us associate with dining on The Hill. The room was also packed with large parties, making it quite loud. Rather than feeling like a special night out, the atmosphere reminded me more of a banquet hall or VFW gathering than an Italian restaurant known for celebrations and family traditions. For me, great dining is about more than just the food. While the meal itself was good, ambiance, setting, and overall experience matter too, especially when celebrating something important. Based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend Mama's for a special occasion, and I don't see myself returning. Good food and friendly service can only carry an experience so far when the atmosphere doesn't match the occasion.

We ordered a bottle of Amarone and enjoyed it with the whole meal. For starters, we ordered the polenta with Italian sausage between the two of us. We could only exclaim about how creamy the polenta was. It was extremely hearty, with some vegetables and thinly sliced Italian sausage. I'm glad that the Italian sausage was thinly sliced because otherwise it would have been overpowering for my palette. The next dish that my daughter had was technically a Caprese salad, which was tomato and mozzarella. She didn't like the red onion, but had asked for balsamic vinegar on the side, which she added to the salad, and when I tried the balsamic vinegar, even I realized that it is one of the best that I have ever had. My daughter went with the gnocchi, and said that it was among the best that she had ever had. We shared a veal and mushroom risotto between the two of us, and it was perfectly moist, the veal was not overpowering, and it was perfectly cooked. The veal just simply melted in the mouth. My osso buco came on a saffron risotto, and the osso buco was fantastic, tender, and simply delightful. I enjoyed the marrow very much, but I almost wished that the dish came with polenta, not risotto. However, it was still magnificent. We took dessert to go, because we couldn't finish everything at all. However, this is definitely not going to be the last time we come here. The ambience was fantastic, very intimate, darkly lit, but still noisy, with people having fun here. Our service was top of the line, with great humor. Give this place a try. You won't be upset, neither will you regret it. Our compliments to the chef, staff, and owner. What a home run.

The restaurant looked amazing, and I was somewhat surprised that they served their regular menu as opposed to a limited menu as many places do on a holiday. My daughter and I both had the salmon meal while her friend tried a special, grouper. My salmon filet was perfectly done and the pasta and fresh vegetables it was served on was fantastic. Tori had an aperol spritz and it was delicious while I stayed with a soft drink so nothing to share there. Both of them enjoyed their entrees commenting on freshness and flavor. For dessert they selected cannellonis and I had a slice of their house made cheesecake and a cup of coffee. Dessert was just as delicious as the entrees were. It is very costly but for a white table cloth dinner to celebrate both a birthday and NYE it was amazing. The service was splendid, our server was a beautiful young lady with suggestions on selections, the bussers were busy seemingly there waiting for you to finish so that they could remove your plate. I hope to return soon on a dinner date that with a lady I would like to impress.
