My daughter and I started out with bread that was not warm, which is surprising. These days, a lot of places make you pay for bread, which is disheartening, so this was a plus anyway that they offered us bread, albeit cold. We ordered a bottle of Amarone and enjoyed it with the whole meal. For starters, we ordered the polenta with Italian sausage between the two of us. We could only exclaim about how creamy the polenta was. It was extremely hearty, with some vegetables and thinly sliced Italian sausage. I'm glad that the Italian sausage was thinly sliced because otherwise it would have been overpowering for my palette. The next dish that my daughter had was technically a Caprese salad, which was tomato and mozzarella. She didn't like the red onion, but had asked for balsamic vinegar on the side, which she added to the salad, and when I tried the balsamic vinegar, even I realized that it is one of the best that I have ever had. My daughter went with the gnocchi, and said that it was among the best that she had ever had. We shared a veal and mushroom risotto between the two of us, and it was perfectly moist, the veal was not overpowering, and it was perfectly cooked. The veal just simply melted in the mouth. My osso buco came on a saffron risotto, and the osso buco was fantastic, tender, and simply delightful. I enjoyed the marrow very much, but I almost wished that the dish came with polenta, not risotto. However, it was still magnificent. We took dessert to go, because we couldn't finish everything at all. However, this is definitely not going to be the last time we come here. The ambience was fantastic, very intimate, darkly lit, but still noisy, with people having fun here. Our service was top of the line, with great humor. Give this place a try. The food was fabulous and the servings were huge! . For an appetizer we had fried calamari with zucchini. We were so surprised to find it on a bed of spinach that was perfectly cooked. It was a delicious combination. However, the bruschetta appetizer was the best we ever had. My husband wanted Angel hair pasta in a mozzarella sauce with shrimp. He asked them if they could make that and they said.," of course!". He also had tortellini and mussels. The muscles was beautifully presented and contained more muscles than one could possibly eat. First time here with a friend for dinner. The inside is actually really nice with a homey feeling with dim lighting and atmosphere. It leans more toward fine dining than casual, but you don't need to dress up for it. Our waiter was super young which was kind of funny but he was really nice. I got the classic spaghetti and meatballs and it hit the spot exactly, the portion size was generous too. The cocktails are also really good. They bring out bread at the start, which is a nice bonus. A strong experience with delicious dishes around the table that did not break the bank. Parking is entirely off street, but free. The dining room is a beautifully appointed Italian that's fitting of The Hill. White table clothes and candies on each table. Although our server was very nice we unfortunately had a slow down of attention toward the end. Possibly due to we were not drinking, but it was noticeable. Although we got an initial follow up and one round water refill our water was gone through most of our dinner. I regret the review is tardy and I cannot recall the pasta special I got, I enjoyed. Others had lasagna, pizza and spaghetti with meatballs. The portion sizes were more than adequate and came with bread. This was my first time trying Lorenzo's and was pleasantly surprised. The service was top notch, with really attentive wait staff. My partner and I did not have many needs but we were sat next to a table of elders who did, and it was touching to see how well they were treated. A group of seven had dinner there on Sunday night. We had an elderly person with us who prefers dining earlier so we had made a reservation for 5:30. We were greeted and led to a table right away. The hostess helped us get my MIL seated and stored her walker for us. We were at a round table, which I prefer for that sized group. Our server came over and introduced herself and asked for drink orders. She was great and provided good service throughout our meal. We all enjoyed our food! The timing of each course was perfect. 2025's New Years Eve dinner at Lorenzo's. My youngest has her birthday on NYE so I was able to host her and her friend for dinner at Lorenzo's. The restaurant looked amazing, and I was somewhat surprised that they served their regular menu as opposed to a limited menu as many places do on a holiday. My daughter and I both had the salmon meal while her friend tried a special, grouper. My salmon filet was perfectly done and the pasta and fresh vegetables it was served on was fantastic. Tori had an aperol spritz and it was delicious while I stayed with a soft drink so nothing to share there. Both of them enjoyed their entrees commenting on freshness and flavor. For dessert they selected cannellonis and I had a slice of their house made cheesecake and a cup of coffee. Dessert was just as delicious as the entrees were. It is very costly but for a white table cloth dinner to celebrate both a birthday and NYE it was amazing. The service was splendid, our server was a beautiful young lady with suggestions on selections, the bussers were busy seemingly there waiting for you to finish so that they could remove your plate. The reason for that three star is due to the different flavors of what was Avery clear Northern Italian cuisine as well as the food coming out a bit cold. Lorenzo's does provide great service when you are needing to host a small group. I have been here on work outings previously but my most recent experience was for a friend's surprise birthday dinner. They reserved a small room that was just perfect. Our waitress was great. She was mindful of our coordination with the arrival of the birthday girl while still trying to make sure we all had placed beverage orders. There were 11 of us in total. Orders were all correct and delivered to table in a timely manner. Many of us started with the house salad which I like. I then enjoyed the seafood pasta although my shrimp were over cooked everything else was great. Portions are large so a few of us needed take away boxes. They had 2 specials that evening which I cannot recall other than one was meat and one was swordfish. Sorry about that. Good wine selection with beer and spirits available as well. read more

I was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant, but unfortunately the experience ended up being very disappointing. For my main dish, I ordered the mussels. I have had mussels many times in my life--from high-end restaurants to simple store-bought ones--and I have never had an experience like this. The mussels were undercooked to the point that I actually had to spit one out. It was extremely unpleasant and honestly shocking since this was the main dish I was looking forward to. My husband ordered the Alfredo pasta, and it was incredibly bland. Alfredo should be rich and flavorful, but this tasted like it was missing seasoning and depth. It was very underwhelming for a dish that is usually hard to get wrong. Earlier in the meal I ordered a drink that was extremely bitter. I politely mentioned it to our waiter, and he did send it back, which I appreciated. However, when he did, the bartender looked over at me with a dirty look, which made the situation uncomfortable. After that, I honestly didn't feel comfortable bringing up the issues with the food. I also ordered dessert because I was really looking forward to the bread pudding. Unfortunately, that was disappointing as well. It tasted more like store-bought bread than a homemade dessert and lacked the flavor and texture you expect from a good bread pudding. Both time so far I've had a good experience here. They have been able to accommodate us, once inside and once outside on a great weather night. Service was great, quick and attentive. I enjoyed the seafood pasta with a light wine sauce and good amount of seafood (it's a bit fishy so keep that in mind). Their patio is covered which is always great for those "is it going to rain?" Or "dang it's so sunny" days. The inside is cozy, with dim lights and warm ambiance. Why 4 stars? Some is the dishes came out on the cool side for my liking, and the bruschetta was "loaded" but made the bread soft. I got their specialty "surf and turf' which was a rib eye steak with grilled shrimp on top with asparagus and potatoes on the side. I've never had potatoes like they made it, they were so interesting looking and tasted different from potatoes I've had before, very good though! The steak was the highlight, very tender, cooked perfectly medium, and enough seasoning to bring out the taste of the steak. The asparagus were good too! Each Christmas season I visit St. Louis we go to Lorenzo's! We went recently on Christmas Eve and it was fantastic. I know there are a lot of great Italian restaurants on The Hill, but this is a good favorite, esp for northern italian dishes. It was packed, but the service moved fast!! Like I was shocked how quickly the kitchen was turning around dishes. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. For appetizers we got the calamari and the grilled shrimp scampi. My favorite was the calamari- it had zucchini and spinach with a tomato saffron sauce. The Grilled shrimp scampi was good, but a different take on it than one would think. It wasn't garlic and buttery, but had white bean spread, arugula, peppers etc. We also got a fish soup (special) and Caesar Salad. Caesar salad had parmesan crisps underneath- great flavor!! The main dishes we got were the Sea Bass (special), Chicken Spedini, Grilled Barramundi, and the Potato Gnocchi. I tried all of them, which were good. Star of the show: Chicken Spedini - chicken breast breaded and stuffed with spinach and a flavorful pasta on the bottom with asparagus. Highly recommend!!! For dessert, we spilt a creme brulee and espresso martini, which were both excellent!! Great pairing. As always we will be back here. Overall experience 5/5. read more

Everything at Lorenzo's is special. This Italian gem on the Hill consistently turns out authentic northern Italian recipes. It's our 'go to' around the Christmas holidays, and I would say the perfect blend of white tablecloth restaurant and a place with a family feel. You are greeted at the door immediately, and our party took a seat on the bench in the wait area while our table was prepared (we were early for our reservations). Once seated, the service was top notch, and we were not rushed as we ordered drinks, sampled appetizers and enjoyed our entrees. I saw that gluten-free pasta was offered and was pleased that it tasted great. Chicken spedini never disappointments. Veal Milanese is light and also loved the grilled shrimp appetizer. A big hit was the polenta served as a side to one of the fish dishes. It was grilled and quite tasty! Highly recommend for any special occasion. This 1/2-Italians first experience on The Hill. Loved the very walkable / safe neighborhood with so much character and local, no-chain options! Probably a good choice that my friends picked a northern Italian spot since I tend to be more critical of southern Italian restaurants since my (wonderful cook) Italian mother was from the Rome area. Tried the polenta appetizer, Bibb salad and potato gnocchi. All three were excellent! While the gnocchi was good--both well cooked and soft / pillowy--I did find the cheesy sauce to be a bit overwhelming due to the size of the entree. Also I'm used to gnocchi being rolled after it's cut and while it probably didn't change the taste much since the sauce had no problems clinging to it, I just felt like I was missing that step. Probably from all the years watching mom do that when she made hers. The luganiga (pork sausage) in the sauce was delicious! I also learned of Volpi salami (whose store was closed by the time we got there) from being on the Bibb salad. But from looking at their website apparently I can find their products at select 7-11's, Walgreens, Sprouts, Sam's Clubs, Trader Joe's and Tom Thumbs back in Texas. I'll definitely be tracking that down once I get back! I would have preferred the crusty Italian bread to the soft white bread that we were provided with, but I understand that may be a northern Italian thing? Service from Jen and her team was beyond fantastic! When they had what seemed like five+ people bring out our entrées very quickly there was no doubt we were being served freshly made items that didn't sit under heat lamps as one server tried to deliver all six! Ambiance was perfectly fine. A bit bright, newish and "tan" looking which did not give the feel that "it's been there forever". We had the absolute best experience here last Saturday. Being that it was the weekend before Christmas and VERY busy and we didn't have a reservation, I had set the bar relatively low for this experience. We were immediately impressed by the hostess who had a table for us right away. My husband and I were quickly seated and our waiter Irvin came and took our drink order. He recommended a delicious entree with a pasta that wasn't on the menu. Everyone was prompt, water was always full, food was hot and delicious. The busses was kind and on top of his job. I was just incredibly impressed with the experience! In a world of sub par restaurant experiences and overpriced meals, we had an above average experience with fantastic food and excellent service. Had an amazing meal here on New Year's Eve!! What a wonderful way to end 2025. Started with the house salad which my husband said was the best salad he has ever had. The dressing was delicious and the roasted pistachios add an amazing touch to the salad. We both ordered specials - mine was grouper and my husband's was steak. They were both so good!! Our dessert was a limoncello strawberry cake which was also delicious. I only got a photo of our dessert.
