I have been doing business with Centre Music since 1976. I'd recommend them to anybody. I usually find good-to-great prices here, in similar range as the big-box music store(s) down the street--But I also find Corbitt and his son Max. Corbitt opened the place in 1973, and he's as warm and honest a guy as you're ever going to find. (He's also hilariously droll, and knows a lot about music, musical instruments, music history, life, the universe, and everything.) His son Max now handles much of the everyday operations, and shares most or all of Corbitt's strengths, as named above. Which is really cool--It means there'll be a Centre Music in Framingham for another generation. Great place for lessons, too. read more

I signed up for a trail violin class and I have been to 2 others before. I immediately signed up for monthly classes because that's how amazing they are!!!!!!!! I love the way they teach here, they make it a great learning atmosphere and encourage you to bring out your best. They made the class scheduling extremely easy for me and they have instrumental rentals too! I look forward to my violin classes every week now! read more

Centre Music House has been around forever and for good reason. Good prices, good service, and lessons have kept the ship sailing. Back when I was 15, the summer before sophomore year in high school, I bought my first bass amp here! A Peavey TNT 115. I babysat for my mom's friend's kids for a week to pay for it. I was obsessed with Primus and Les Claypool was my hero. He kinda still is. Anyways, I went down there, and it was GONE! I had had my eye on it for months, and someone had bought the unit they had on display. So the guy said he'd order me one and call me when it came in. Well, fast-forward about 3 weeks and they still haven't gotten it in. 15 year old Jamie is getting upset, because he has played bass for 3 years or so at this point and has yet to own his own amp. What is this, communist Russia? I should not have to wait so long for good amplifier yes??!?! Anyway it took for goddamn ever!!! It was well into September, and still no amp. Anyway the amp when I tried it months earlier had a pricetag of $300, but he was quoting me $350 now. I insisted that it was the same damn amp, and that months earlier it had been $50 cheaper. After some hemming and hawing and some help from my more haggle-savvy Poppa Bear, he gave it to me for $300 and said "well, I know you'll be back for strings and stuff." Yeah right. Didn't go back until many many moons later, and probably didn't buy anything on that visit. At any rate, I'm sure with the advent of the internet, and them not having to resort to scribbling someone's special order on a purchase order bought at Staples (another local Framingham company!), their special ordering system is much better now. Problems aside, still a great little shop. read more

There's dignity in something that lasts. Centre Music House has been around longer than I have. Returning from college, I was eager begin taking regular drum lessons again, and I would never consider turning anywhere else. Corbett, the owner, is a genuine delight, and takes great care to ensure that everyone who enters his store leaves satisfied. He also has an eye for talent, and I have yet to meet an employee who hasn't struck me as passionate, knowledgeable and down-to-earth. I take drum lessons with Forrest. An effective drum teacher has to create an environment in which the student is comfortable enough to be their best. Forrest does that. Whether we focus on what I had prepared and practiced for that week, or we talk about philosophy, or we just do some experimenting around the kit, or all three at once, I always learn something new. If you want great music lessons, or you are looking for some expert advice on a purchase or repair, I couldn't recommend Centre Music House more highly. read more

This is mainly a music training place and secondly a musical instrument store. They handle alot or rentals as well as sales. My boyfriend had a beautiful bamboo percussion instrument from Vietnam called a t'rung that his brother had brought back from Singapore. Unfortunately, this instrument needed to be kept in a humid environment, as the rubber bands that secure the bamboo pipes will dry out and break, which is what they did. I called all around looking for someone who could repair this, as I wanted to have it repaired for him for Christmas. Most places didn't want anything to do with it, but then I called this place, and Corbitt (the owner) said it sounded like an interesting challenge, and he was certainly willing to research it and take a look at it. I brought it in, and not only did he do a superb job of re-stringing it, he changed me a very reasonable rate. Evan was thrilled to see it all restrung come Christmas morning. Thank-you Corbitt. Super-cool music store if you need sheet music, band instruments, or lessons. Corbitt the owner is the nicest, most honest guy you'll ever meet. They also have a pretty good selection of guitars and gear that are a step above most run-of-the-mill band-rental music stores. Arthur is a good guitar repairman as well. read more

I was very unimpressed with this company for many reasons. I called through to ask if they could repair the French horn, but when I dropped off the horn they were unable to give me any idea of how long it would take or how much it would cost. They told me they should have an idea within 24 hours. I called them at the end of the next business day, and they still had no further information about length of time or cost. The same was true early the following week. A week later they eventually called me to tell me that they were still trying but again could given me no length of time or estimated cost. I followed up again with them the following Friday and Monday. On the Monday when I called them, I informed them that if they couldn't fix it by the end of the day (12 days later) that I would take it somewhere else. Suddenly they had it fixed , and I was able to pick it up - at a cost of $100 for the repair .... having received no previous quotes. read more

My child takes lessons here, and as far as I know those are going well. My problem is with Centre Music's arrogant management and policies. In particular, they retain the right to cancel a lesson at any time without consequence. In fact, this has already happened MANY times. However, if we miss a lesson, for any reason, even with far in advance notice, we must still pay for the lesson. There are no makeups and no credits given, period. The not so subtle message here is that their time is worth more than our time. read more

The folks at Centre Music have created a truly wonderful music school and shop. The teachers are pros, the proprietors (Corbett and his son Max) and employees are always available, helpful, and warm, and the house where it all happens is cozy and filled with character. They organize the scheduling of the lessons with skill and efficiency, and are great at calling and returning calls when communication is needed. In the Fall and Spring they hold a student showcase (recital) at a nearby beautiful retreat center where the students are made to feel special and Corbett, as M.C., sets them all at ease with his informal, relaxed manner. It is so heartwarming and impressive to see students of all ages--even tiny ones--show their accomplishments.
