However I do recognize a great business when I see one. That being said, I was very pleased about what Steve was able to do for the guitar I brought in. It is a 1970's Yamaha classical guitar. The guitar is a hand-me-down from my mother's first husband who died at a young age. In other words, this is a very special piece to my family. I didn't want to drop it at just any shop; I wanted to get it the care it deserved. Unfortunately when I was younger I placed stickers on the guitar and let it sit in my closet for years where it fell into disrepair - although no major flaws. Finally, after moving the guitar from apartment to apartment I decided to learn how to play and of course, first, get it repaired. I dropped the guitar with Steve and a few weeks and $60 later, I had a sticker-free guitar with new strings, turning pegs and bridge. Again, I have no clue if the pricing was in line with the work but I would have gladly paid double that for the result and the care that was given to this special piece. *If you are having trouble finding the shop, it is a above a music studio to the left of Guitar Center. You have to ring the buzzer and then go up two flights of stairs. His shop is small, cluttered with all sorts of instruments/tools and AWESOME. A true Boston gem.

I have never had anyone able to discuss the importance of strings with particular brands and models as well as what certain type of pics can do for alternating sounds. After an in-house tech shaved nearly 1/ quarter of an inch too much off my brand new Martin after a horrible set up, Steve brought it back. It sounds better than the first day I bought it. He's taken my old Gibson and found issues which I was not aware and given it volume and tone I could never have imagined it was capable.

I have had him look at a couple of different things for me from pedals to amps. He actually repaired my '88 Laney for me basically had to rewire it entirely after it melted down. It's sounds great and kept the original tone very pleased. Also their venue is great the room sounds excellent, I was lucky enough to have gotten to play here. They're very hospitable and even better that it's an all ages all are welcome venue, you don't get that much anymore. Places like this are what keeps the music scenes going. First,…read morethe company needs to clearly EXPLAIN that past due payments apply to past due balance first and not regular monthly payments (don't tell customers all is well in the instrument universe when it very clearly is not). Second, they need to be consistent with past due notices. They shouldn't let nine months go by without any conversation or notification or past due fees and then start to harass customers and create fees and spam notices out of the blue. One star: perceived inconsistency and lack of knowledge as far as knowing/explaining customer accounts. Zero stars for being annoying when the mood hits them.

There is a lack of effort with being proactive. Their price, especially with the plan, is extremely high and their hours and staff helpfulness aren't fantastic. We walked into this place on a rainy Saturday afternoon and there were some very talented people picking a little bluegrass in a corner while we browsed away. The selection of stringed instruments is unlike any that I've seen in a small shop, and they have separate room (which are enchanting) for all sorts of music lessons (not just stringed instruments, but piano, horns, etc). The woman behind the counter was friendly and chatty and although she tried to upsell just about everything, she wasn't pushy about it and seemed to know what she was talking about. This is a great place to go on a lazy afternoon, whether you're a musician or not.

Glen brought it back to life and it still plays like a banjo should to this day. Love it. Now when I buy a new guitar I take it right to Glen to set it up how I like it before I even play it.
