My husband and I went to see Booker T. Jones perform at the TCAN Main Stage (The Center for Arts in Natick) on June 19th. Seating began 30 minutes before the performance. So beforehand, we went to the concession stand for Tazo teas and a cookie to share. FYI The place is run all by volunteers. The acoustics in the main stage performance area are great. The seats were comfortable also. It was a wonderful show! We both said that we would come back to TCAN if we saw another artist scheduled who we were interested in. read more

I love TCAN. It's a fun small venue to see a band. It's a converted former firehouse. I've seen Beatlejuice here twice. They put on a great show. The seats are assigned. People dance in the aisles or in the back near the sound board. There's a concession stand that sells beer & wine. I've had a great time even in the last row. TCAN is, quite possibly, my favorite concert venue. I've been to 3 shows here, and each time the experience has been wonderful. Starting with convenient parking, pleasant people working the doors, comfortable seating with plenty of leg room, great sight lines, this place provides everything I'm looking for at a concert. It's a small space, which means that there probably isn't a bad seat to be found, and the old firehouse location has been beautifully renovated. I live out of state, but regularly find that great acts are playing here, seemingly whenever I visit - so whoever does their scheduling deserves a shout out. I could rattle off a dozen reasons why I would not want to attend a concert at a basketball arena - and TCAN has none of these negatives. read more

We went here this weekend to see Cadence (an a cappella group from Canada) and it was my first time. It's a really cool venue to see a show - it's in an old firehouse! The seats are basic metal frames with cushions - not uncomfortable but not super comfy for 2 hours straight - but we had awesome seats! Third row, center. And they were only $25 each. They have a good selection of performances (including J. Geils!) and sells snacks & drinks. I would definitely go back! read more

We went to TCAN last night to see Grace Kelly, and we had a fantastic time! We paid around $23 per ticket that we got online, including taxes and fees, and picked up the tickets at the main desk when we got there 20 minutes before the show. I love how intimate the room is - there really isn't a single bad seat in the house. The acoustics were good, the crowd was lively, the attire was casual, the coffee smelled amazing... But the only drawback here was the uncomfortable seats. They're just chairs with minimal cushioning. For an hour-long presentation they might be fine, but our show was a generous three hours, and our backs and butts paid the price. I especially like how casual of a setting this place is - lots of people comfortable in their jeans, and they even let you eat and drink during the concert. The ushers and the people working there are all volunteers, so it's just filled with a very friendly vibe - kind of like Trader Joe's. :) I highly recommend seeing a concert here, but remember to dress comfortably, or bring some back support if you really need it! read more

Ok.... I have never been here, but my parents have, and they LOVE it. The variety of entertainment is amazing. That's why I rated it with 3 stars. However, this review is for the ladies at the desk, during the holiday season, when I went in to purchase a gift card for my parents. I called before I went, to make sure they were open, so I could go and get a gift card. The woman who answered seemed less than enthusiastic about me calling, and it seemed like I was bothering her. When I got there, a sweet older woman was working at the desk. She said she didn't know how to process the purchase of a gift card, and she would need to call for assistance. We both waited patiently for someone to come help her. When help arrived, it was a woman who seemed VERY annoyed that she was being summoned to help a PAYING customer. In fact, her words were 'I need to make this fast, I have things to do'. Oh... that's comforting. I'm not about to spend money with you, or anything! The whole process of her 'showing' the older woman how to do a gift card was one of the most heart wrenching, painful things I have seen to date. The woman was totally impatient with her, used a stick to point to things on the screen, completely spoke down to her... all while huffing and puffing...IN FRONT OF ME! She angrily told the older woman how to write the gift card in the log, and how to add it into the computer. I was mortified for myself AND for this older woman who was clearly just trying to do the best she could. We all have to learn how to do new things... why does she need to be embarrassed for not knowing? When the debacle of buying the card was over, I looked directly into the older woman eyes, and said,'thank you very very much, I appreciate it. Have a great holiday.' I just looked at the other woman.. and walked out. Respect of coworkers, and customers is a keystone to a business... I was appalled by the interaction I saw. I hope my parents love their gift card! read more

I just received the flyer from this summer camp and my kids are so exited to go back. We travel to visit my husband's family is Wellesley every summer and our nieces attend this camp, so we decided to give it a try. The girls did musical theatre in the morning and moviemaking in the afternoon. My girls, now 8 and 10, LOVED this program. It gave me and my husband time to visit with our family and the girls were so excited every night telling us about what they did during the day. My sister in law's kids are now 10 and 13, and the 13 year old has been attending since she was 6 years old! The founder and director has known this girl for 7 years and has become a mentor to her. We just got the flyer and are planning our trip around the dates for Pocket Full of Tales. We had to catch a plane and the director was so accommodating and patient. Everything was so efficient - from check-ins, to performances, I always felt my kids were taken care of and safe which is important to me because I'm not from there. Throughout this school year, the girls have gotten more involved in performing at school and have taken to making short films with my iPhone. So, keep your eye out for "Max the Dog Saves the Day" at your local movie theatre! Haha! read more

I call the TCAN one of Natick's jewels. I have known people to come from upstate New York, Providence Rhode Island and other places to see a favorite singer or band and they all remark what a great venue it is. It is one of the most intimate settings, with excellent acoustics and many times you get to meet the artist(s) after the show. The selections of artists is quite amazing as well. Do yourself a favor, take in a show and I promise you will not regret it. read more

POCKET FULL OF TALES My daughter has attended theater classes at Pocket Full of Tales for the last few years. She has gone to both the summer camp and the classes held during the school year. She was very shy when she began attending classes and over the years her confidence has grown in all areas. She can go up on stage and act without feeling nervous and she can go in front of her class at school to give a report with poise and with a smile on her face. The classes are extremely well organized and the safety of every child is assured by a professional staff. All of the teachers are friendly and caring when teaching their classes. If you are looking for an activity that will both enrich and entertain your child you can't make a better choice than Pocket Full of Tales. read more

Went to the TCAN a show called Don't dress for Dinner. What a great night out. We had paid $26 per ticket for the Lux for a movie and $22 for the ticket for this show. This show was so much better. Community theatre is fun--I forgot how much. The line up of shows in this old firehouse is diverse. Worth a look. read more

Nice, intimate venue. Reserved seating, great sound, and a helpful staff. Acts that are booked for on stage are from varied genres of music, but I have been amazed at some of the name, national and even international acts that have been booked @ TCAN. Pocket Full of Tales is an AMAZING program for children. My kids LOVED the program and they had the best week of camp. I love TCAN. Such a great asset for the Metrowest community. The venue is beautiful and comfortable, the sound system is excellent and there isn't a bad seat in the house. The range of shows presented is eclectic and ticket prices are generally reasonable. Makes it easy to take a chance on something new and different, or to see an old favorite. A couple of years back, I took a chance on a hip hop/classical group, Black Violin. Way outside my wheelhouse but it was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had. The recent addition of the cinema is a plus. First run films and interesting revivals. TCAN never disappoints and frequently thrills. read more

I have been frequenting TCAN for over ten years. It's in a converted firehouse. It is an intimate venue and there is not a bad seat in the house. Ticket prices are also very reasonable. I have seen a variety of musical acts, including folk, rock, blues and jazz, as well as plays. It is in downtown Natick, with free parking right across the street. The concession stand serves beer, wine, coffee, tea, and snack type food. The second floor now holds seating for movies where you can see indie films as well as classics. I cannot say enough good things about TCAN, I absolutely love going to performances there. read more

This review is for the kids summer theater camp program Pocket Full of Tales. I called in March of 2011 to sign my child up for a week at of the theater camp. My daughter was 8 at the time and I spoke to the director with some questions, one of which was will she be put in a group with kids her age? They assured me on the phone that they group the kids by age and she would be in the 8-12 age group. Fast forward to first day of camp, she is with a 4 (!!) year old and a 6 year old along with 5 other kids ages 9-12. The 4 year old was running around the stage, unable to repeat any lines much less memorize them, destroying their props and totally disrupting the group. I called immediately and was told by the same director, "Well, he is a sibling of another child and the parents did not want to separate the siblings." So, they chose to appease one family while ruining the experience for the other kids. The 6 year old was also unable to participate to the level of the older group and was disruptive as well. Horrible week for my daughter who hated the experience because all the time was spent reining in these two kids. Called the director to complain, as did two other parents. No change was made. Will never go again. This program is under a new director and the new director is terrible. read more

this is a lovely venue for a concert and perfect if you live in metrowest. No driving into Boston, free parking, nice dining (we go to maxwell's about a mile east on rte 135). they have a good mix of acts. check out the website. we saw roomful of blues, james cotton, rory block. we've also seen the tcan players twice and they are remarkably good for local theater. bottom line it is a fun night out at a reasonable price with a low stress commute. Note to the town of Natick - it would be wonderfulif they could sell beer and wine at every show - right now they only have a limited number of nights when they sell alcohol - so you may want to have that last cocktail wherever you are having dinner! read more

We've been members of TCAN since it was in a little storefront on Main Street! It's come a long way since then. I've taken my granddaughter there for several years for ballet and acting classes. We love the beautiful Firehouse venue where we have seen many wonderful performances. All this and no traffic, easy parking, great restaurants and very reasonable prices for tickets!!! read more

My 10 year old son recently took a drama class here. While the class itself was interesting, he was grouped with children younger who needed more attention resulting in time and attention away from the actual drama side. Also, we were told of final performance date on the first or second day of class and 3 days before performance was to take place the date was changed without notice. The artistic director gave no reason for last minute change other than TCAN administration had a glitch in schedule. Drama teachers are wonderful but not a well run or parent friendly organization. Such a shame, we had high hopes for a wonderful experience but were very disappointed. Beware of last minute changes in final performance if you are a busy family and cannot accommodate last minute schedule changes. You may not be able to see your child perform. read more
