ox Oxtail Stew

This was our first time at Centro Basco. The bread was warm and seemed fresh baked. The appetizer was great. It was fresh and not overdone. We were given fideo and beans with our meal - yummm-mmm The oxtail was hearty and the potatoes were delicious. The salad was so good i had a second serving. I tasted the fish - it was delicious but I was too full to eat more than a nibble. The veggies were good but some of the green beans were over cooked others were al dente - I prefer the latter. We brought home a slice of the homemade Basco cheesecake. It was ... you guessed it...DELICIOUS! it was not too sweet. It tasted sooo light. Actually it was a 10/10. This is a well established local restaurant. The service was great. The restaurant has charm. Loved it!! We will be back !

Basque cuisine, known for hearty dishes and even heartier portions, has outlasted nouvelle cuisine, veganism, and the raw food movement. Why? It's delicous and offers great bang for the buck. Centro Basco exemplifies these traits and offers a fantastic dining experience. My friend and I each ordered an entree, with the Basque setup (here called the Aitaxi meal) and including salad, soup, beans, pickled tongue and spaghetti with tomato sauce. My Poulet Basquaise (chicken roasted with Basque sauce) was tasty and filling. My friend's oxtail stew was the hit, though, rich and savory and a must-get. My friend was also kind enough to share some of his Lukinka Bites, tasty sausage bites that are also another must-order. Service was friendly and there's ample space for the whole family. Free parking in the lot. Highly recommended!

Centro Basco has become one of our family's favorite places to eat. The service is always fantastic, and the restaurant has such a welcoming atmosphere, it truly feels like a home away from home. We especially love coming here for birthdays and for the annual Basque breakfast held every Labor Day weekend. The breakfast is served in a traditional "boarder style," which means you'll be seated with others unless you come with a large group. The food is served family-style, making the experience both fun and communal. Breakfast usually includes eggs, sausage, bacon, fresh bread, a tomato sofrito, French fries, and blue cheese. It's always hearty and delicious! For dinner, I can't recommend the lamb or the oxtail stew enough, though honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. If you're ever in the Chino area and want to try some Basque food, please check Centro Basco out!

Attended a family gathering and dined in their larger banquet space. The set up was simple, but service was great and we had an open bar with drinks flowin'. Our lunch was served family style. Dinner rolls, salad, roasted vegetables, french fries, and sliced steak with vegetable du jour were all placed at the center of each table and we helped ourselves to how ever much we wanted. The onion soup arrived in individual bowls to each person. The overall meal was good; not overly complicated. The main restaurant had an old school vintage charm to it. A large mural of... what I'm guessing is Basque Country, is prominently displayed on the wall. A small bar area sits off to the side of the dining space with TVs to watch the game. THE PARKING. Free parking in their lot. THE RETURN. Yep, I'm interested in trying out different basque dishes!

The oxtail stew was excellent. It was tender and the sauce was delicious. The escargot was also delicious. It was not chewy but instead tender. The French onion soup is not as thick & rich as I would like and not as seasoned as I've had in other restaurant. Ample servings of salad & soup. I was surprised by the neat ambiance of the dining area. If you go in through the bar area, one wouldn't be impressed. The hostess & server were very friendly & attentive. Service was excellent. I'd come back to try the other dishes.

We went to Centro Basco to celebrate my grandfathers 90th birthday. This restaurant has been in Chino for a long time since he had been there over 40 years prior and it still got his approval! I ordered the codon blue (my first time trying this dish). It was very flavorful and I enjoyed it! The actual portion of meat was a bit on the smaller side but this is made up for by the delish sides and soup (French onion or tomato basil ) and salad appetizer that come with the meal! I thought the roasted veggies were quite flavorful and the mashed potatoes were incredible. It also came with a bit of cranberry sauce which paired very nicely with the cordon blue since I felt the meat was a bit dry. Others in my party got the oxtail soup and the pork chops and that was quite enjoyed as well. The next time I am here I will definitely be trying the pork chops since they looked incredible! Slightly breaded and quite large for the price ! The ambiance has a "old timey" feel to it. It was a very peaceful dinner experience. They also had a bar area off to one side of the restaurant with some TVs playing whatever sports game was on that night. I also saw a more private room for big parties. The service was very fast, and the waiters were always nearby incase we needed anything. They let us bring in our own cake for our celebration, but they did have a 15$ corking fee when we wanted to bring in our own wine. Overall it was a very nice birthday dinner experience! Boppie (my Grandpa) approved! Date of visit : January 23, 2025

Our favorite French restaurant, Le Gourmet in Upland closed in 2024 or 2025 so we needed to find a new French place. The lamb loin in lingonberry sauce was wonderfully complex with the savory cheese complemented well by the sweet lingonberry. The escargot was perfect. The only caveat was that we tried the pastries of the day -- one was a puff pastry, forgetting the flavor/name and some kind of cake, maybe Napoleon? We did not care for the desserts at all, if I were to get another dessert I'd probably stick with the crème brulée. The bread and salty whipped butter were delicious, seemed house-made? The bread was slightly sweet and I had to hold myself back from gorging on it. Parking: Parked in a nearby garage for $20. I think there was an event going on.

Every dish is beautifully created with an incredible level of attention to detail you can feel the care, artistry, and intention behind every course. The chefs here are doing something truly special. This is absolutely a special-occasion restaurant: anniversaries, milestone birthdays, wedding dinners, or a once-in-a-lifetime date night. You will be spending a pretty penny, but that's because this is not an everyday Friday-night dinner spot it's a full culinary experience. If I had the budget, I'd come every week... maybe twice. Dinner is a multi-course tasting experience that begins around 5 PM and carries you through the evening you'll likely be there until 10 PM or later. There's a wine cellar, curated pairings, and an atmosphere that feels intimate, elevated, and deeply intentional. This place is clearly designed for guests with an elevated palate and a true appreciation for the culinary arts and thoughtfully sourced, curated dishes. For just my husband and me, we spent a little over $600 for the evening, and I can honestly say every single dollar was worth it. If you're someone who loves food, storytelling through cuisine, and unforgettable dining experiences, this is a must. You're able to interact with the chefs, the staff is incredibly hospitable and professional, and the entire experience feels warm yet refined. I truly cannot rave enough about this restaurant. I came here for my wedding anniversary, which is very special to me and I have a relatively young child and they were still able to accommodate this alone to me meant the world and for them to be able to accommodate to a small child was incredibly amazing. This is hands-down one of the top dining experiences in Orange County, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will absolutely be returning every year, guaranteed.

Credit card needed to hold reservation -there's also a $3 service charge from OpenTable. Restaurant opens at 6pm for cocktail hours downstairs in cellar. Each cocktail is $20 and there's a board where people can ham n cheese bites with napkins -but there was a lot of bare hands touching/pulling the food. ..not appetizing at all. Foodwise -every single bite was paired with mediocrity. The overly salted amuse.. overcooked quail on top of a chalky purple yam smear, a too rare filet with a thick grey band (requested medium but this was basically blue). The lobster glazed cod was fishy -poor quality fish it seems. ...Strong flavors that don't complement one another was the theme. Also sat there awkwardly while everyone else was eating desserts. I had to flag down a waitress and ask for my dessert -she replied that there was confusion and something about togo ? I eventually got my dessert -chocolate shell with basically heavy cream -not even ice cream/mousse inside. I was in disbelief the whole meal. Even the plates were hotter than the actual food it held. How is this restaurant considered upscale and classy. It's overly expensive for mediocrity. This is a pretty scathing review and this is unfortunately a second revision, a "nicer" draft... A few of our coworkers raved about this place -might have a word with them next week. Lead astray. I think the bill was $500-$600 ? Would have been happier at Mastros.

SHORT VERSION: Overall had a great date night dinner for 2…read moreexperience at this French Asian fusion restaurant. The ingredients, textures, and flavors were all paired very nicely in each dish we tried. The presentation of every dish we had was immaculate and really elevated the experience (see pics/videos). LONG VERSION: We started with a few slices of French bread that came out fresh from the oven - it had an amazing crust on the outside and was unbelievably melty warm and soft on the inside. I kept asking for more pieces and wish I could have just ordered an entire loaf of it if I'm honest! The presentation of the Hamachi crudo salad was like a piece of art - the dish matched the presentation and the yuzu flavor was unique and refreshing. The shrimp macaron starter was very tasty and the green sauce to dip in had a great spicy kick to it. The Spanish garlic shrimp appetizer was a good size portion that we shared. It came out hot and sizzling on the plate - the shrimp was succulent and the tomatoes and garlic pieces were terrific. For the main dish, we split the uni (sea urchin) pasta. The pasta was home made and delicious. I have never had uni before and it was cool to try a unique and novel flavor but this might not be for everyone (it had somewhat of a bitterness that reminded me of the acquired taste of an olive). The sauce was definitely butter heavy and it evened out the strong flavor of the uni - I found the dish was delicious overall but it is pricey so just make sure you're aware and open minded before you order this. For dessert, we split the chocolate cake/soufflé and this one literally took my breath away and had me rolling my eyes into the back of my head. It was made to order so we had to wait for it to bake, but when it came out, the warmth and quality of the melted chocolate inside was exquisite and the proportions of cake to chocolate to ice cream was absolutely perfect (see video). We don't go out to nice fancy/French restaurants very often, and I'm so glad we indulged with this - it ended the evening in a truly special way. Restaurant ambiance was casual but elegant. Our service was fantastic - we don't eat meat or alcohol and our server helped us navigate the menu to find some great options. Overall, we are grateful for a lovely meal and would recommend anyone else to give it a try if you're looking for a unique and flavorful dining experience.

Service was great. Our waiter was very nice, polite and attentive despite having to wait on so many other tables around us. Ambience was interesting because it can be quite charming with all the French artworks and decorations, but yet it didn't feel cozy. The building space seemed like it could've been for an office or a shop. Like true Parisian style, you'll need to make a reservation because seating is limited and this spot is quite popular. My boyfriend and I were very fortunate they had a table available when we visited (we didn't know it was reservations-only) but the staff kindly seated us. Next time, I'll definitely call ahead. Right away, you're greeted by a warm and welcoming mother-daughter duo. They patiently walked us through the menu and shared the specials of the day. The chef himself came out to say hello and even took the time to explain a few items we were curious about. Soft French music plays in the background, creating such a calm, inviting atmosphere. *Plain Croissant: A perfect classic. Flaky on the outside, soft on the inside; it's exactly what you'd want from a traditional croissant. I'd come back just for their pastries alone, though this time I was excited to try their savory breakfast items. *Croque Monsieur: Absolutely delicious and wonderfully authentic. I ordered it with ham in the traditional style, and it came with creamy béchamel and melted cheese layered perfectly on top. The portion was generous and satisfying. You can add an egg to turn it into a Croque Madame. This came with a Provençal tomato and a potato pavé on the side, both of which were flavorful and beautifully prepared. The pavé, with its delicate layers, was such a standout. I haven't seen these sides offered at other French restaurants in the U.S., and I'd honestly return just for them. *Machaca Frances: My boyfriend ordered this dish, and it was such a pleasant surprise as a creative, well-executed blend of flavors. The short rib was incredibly tender, paired with potatoes, caramelized onions, and more, all wrapped up in a soft tortilla. The fresh pico, sauce, and avocado on top tied it all together perfectly. When my boyfriend mentioned he was eyeing this dish, the chef smiled and said the machaca filling was similar to beef bourguignon, and he was right! It had that same rich, deep, savory flavor. If they ever have actual beef bourguignon on the menu, I'd order it in a heartbeat based on how good this was. *Side salad: This had fresh greens, carrots, and caramelized onions, with oven-roasted tomatoes, and more, drizzled in a rich balsamic reduction. You could tell a lot of effort went into even the salad, and it tied the dishes together beautifully. This café really reminded me of France, which I miss so much. The space is clean, the atmosphere is warm, and you can tell the staff knows their regulars well. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like family as soon as you walk in. Spots like this are rare for both atmosphere and traditional French cuisine, especially around here, which makes Café La Reve feel even more special. I'm already planning my next visit to try their sweet breakfast options and maybe a lunch entrée. I saw in another review that they also offer dinner on Fridays by reservation, something I'm excited to experience soon. Thank you to the entire team for your kindness and hospitality. I wish there was a bit more of the octopus itself, but it was still delicious. The beans and potatoes on the dish were great complements. The service is attentive and quick. You can eat inside or out on the patio, I opted for the latter since the clay pottery was outside. Either way is lovely. I definitely want to come back for more events! The only downside is parking is TOUGH. Be prepared to circle for a bit.

I love their Sea Bass. It's always cooked to perfection…read more Come to La Vie if you want a quick fix of French cuisine in a kitschy looking restaurant with an 90s Asian flair. Check if they are open also as they are only open on certain days and only for dinner I think. Once I went there they turned us away because I think the kitchen was closed for dinner.

Hidden gem for classic French food in Rosemead…read more La Vie Restaurant has been a family-owned mom-and-pop restaurant for over 30 years, and you can definitely feel the old-school charm the moment you walk in. The decor may not be modern or trendy, but the food is comforting, reasonably priced, and gives that nostalgic neighborhood French restaurant vibe. One thing I really appreciated is that the main entrée comes with soup of the day, a simple salad, bread, and coffee -- hard to find that kind of full-course experience nowadays. We started with the escargot and it was honestly the highlight for me. The garlic butter and herbs were so flavorful, and dipping the warm bread into the sauce made it even better. Le Potage du Jour - Split Pea Soup Les Escargots de Bourgogne - Snails, Garlic Butter & Herbs Le Canard au Grand Marnier - Roast Duckling with Orange Sauce La Carré D'Agneau Bergerie - Roast Rack of Lamb with Garlic Crust Soufflé au Grand Marnier The lamb and duck were decent and nicely portioned, though next time I'd probably explore some of their other dishes. The Grand Marnier soufflé was a nice sweet finish to end the meal. They also have their own parking lot, which is always a plus. Just note they're only open Thursday-Sunday after 5pm, and reservations are definitely recommended especially during weekend.
