The service is first class and the staff are extremely polite and freindly and absolutely nothing is too much trouble for them. I have eaten there on many occasions and have never had a complaint about the food. The have a wide variety on the menu and it is always cooked wonderfully with very good portions. I especially love the Sunday lunch and is great for those with a big appetite! The prices are great and the meals are excellent value for money. They often have live entertainment, there is a pool table and great outdoor eating/playing area. Wide screen TV. They have a big car park. They also have a function room to hire and I believe they do not charge for this hire but you would need to confirm that. All in all I would recommend the Port 'O' Call.

It requires a 2-mile detour off the A48 between St Mellons and Cardiff. The menu offers a fair choice, ranging from bacon butties for breakfast (perhaps with golfers in mind), through to more substantial dishes later in the day, including pan-fried venison steak with red wine, mussels in tomato and herb sauce, fish and vegetable pie, roast duck breast with orange sauce, and bread and butter pudding with custard. £40 for 2. There is a good choice of real ales, which included HB and Speckled Hen on my last visit, a picturesque pub garden with outside tables, widescreen tv which implied the availability of sports events while you eat and drink, and its split-level layout features an upper gallery where you can sit down and survey those below.

Solid third date kind of a spot (dark & sexy) but also a cool place to hang with friends. Cocktails were good, though we went right after the Oasis gig so they had a reduced menu for the weekend. My husband took me here as part of my birthday treat a few months ago and I will be forever grateful that he did. It is really quite difficult to put in to words just how good the cocktails are. The premise of this place is that they make 'molecular cocktails' - essentially cocktails that they have scientifically concocted so that all of the ingredients complement each other molecularly. For just £50 per person, you are treated to a 7-course cocktail menu. With each delicious cocktail you are brought a unique side dish that has been chosen specifically for that drink. We were given such unusual dishes (including slices of cured meats and filled pasta!) that oddly did enhance the taste of the cocktails. As well as the delicious cocktails, what this place also has going for it is the decor. It is very sleek, elegant and gothic. The service is also incredibly good as well. I would absolutely recommend going to this cocktail bar if you can. You would be stupid not to go here. It is absolutely worth visiting. I cannot wait to return.

If anyone ever says those words to you for any reason whatsoever, you punch them in the head and run away as quickly as you can. They are clearly the devil and they seek to cause you only harm. My band were asked to play a gig there last week and, as I grew up in the Llanrumney area, I was tasked with being the navigator and answering any questions the band had about the place. "Isn't it really rough?" they asked. "Nah, it's in the nice part of Llanrumney," I replied, clearly forgetting that if there was a nice part of Llanrumney, it would no longer be in Llanrumney, having officially seceded from the area long ago. So we go down there. We play a gig. People enjoy us. They dance. They laugh. They sing. We get offered money to play for longer, but our horn section is tired and want to sleep. Our female vocalist leaves early, driving home alone. Unbeknownst to us, she gets attacked in her car by drunken rugby lads who try kicking in her car door. We learn this after the vocalist and myself get involved in an altercation between a drunken rugby lad and a girl he is beating up; a girl who is on the floor, bleeding, unconscious, with him punching her in the head. The vocalist and myself, being, you know, decent people, restrain the assailant, hoping for the police to arrive shortly to deport this lunatic. Then someone tries to glass him, and instead glasses me by accident. That was annoying. Do. Not. Go. To. Rumney. Rugby. Club. Ever. I'm not exaggerating when I say you'll probably die there.

Even though it's relatively small it manages to have lots of different areas for big groups and small groups alike who may want a game of pool and to watch the football, or may want a quieter chat around the corner. It has its locals and regulars, but it certainly isn't adverse to newcomers, following the trend of many pubs that now place a lot of emphasis on encouraging families and friends to come and eat. The food is standard pub favourites, and is reasonably priced. The outdoor seating area in the summer can be a great place for a meal. Drinks prices are also fairly standard, with some cheap options if you take the time to ask. It can be busy on a match day so, depending on your preference, plan ahead.

Inside it was all re-done in 2007, though, so it's quite smart and up to date, and what was once a separate lounge, bar and pool room is now a spacious, open plan pub with a big bar, comfortable seating, a pool table, plasma TVs and an open fire. The two best things about the pub, however, are its beer garden (which has a decent view) and its friendly bar staff - it was short listed at the Publican Awards for Customer Service Pub of the Year in 2008/09. Being a Brains pub, there's a cheap food menu plus IPA on tap along with other Brains beers, plus Fosters, Strongbow cider and others. They have a special curry and pint night every Wednesday until 9.30pm which only costs £5.75 and is pretty popular, plus another deal on steak and a glass of wine for £7.99 on some weekday evenings. You can't expect gourmet food at these prices, but for a well-priced, filling pub meal it's not too bad.

Our cottage in Chulmleigh had a brief paragraph about the Masons Arms and mentioned it was Michelin's 2010 Pub of the Year. Off we went. Stopped by in the afternoon to make reservations for that evening. Enjoyed a nice Cotleigh Tawny bitter while we perused the menu ahead of time. We were delighted with our options from starter to dessert. Couldn't wait for the evening! We arrived for dinner and ordered a drink at the bar. The place is very cozy and staff professional - smiles all around. They are all happy to be there and it really makes the place enjoyable. The Masons Arms was one of my favorite dinner experiences ever. We were brought into a comfy side room with our drinks and handed the menus to review while we munched on complimentary olives, etc. A few minutes later we placed our orders and were left to conversation - which was essentially wondering what would be happening next. The waitress came back and brought us to our little table along the window - where our wine and starter were brought almost as soon as we sat down. Interesting and effective way to do things. Is that common over in the UK? Who cares! Starters: I had the smoked haddock leek and potato soup and she had the chicken liver parfait with chili jam and brioche toast. Both were just sooo astonishingly good. Main: I had the John Dory with clams, butter beans and chive ravioli. Delicious but I think I liked her prosciutto-wrapped monkfish loin with creamed potato in an orange/balsamic sauce. We couldn't stop talking about how good they were. Dessert: We ordered the roasted pineapple pannacotta and the special - chocolate ganache with lime jelly. Both were good and a great end to a great meal. I am not big on sweets but a good dark chocolate hits the spot every time - and the special was really nice. The triangles of lime jelly were a pleasant and delicious surprise, as I didn't think I would care for them. Overall - great meal. Great meal worth every penny - on the high side but well worth it. Of course, we might have gone overboard but it was our holiday! Service was excellent - not one of those places where staff comes by so often it's annoying. They were attentive at just the right times. I will certainly be back should I ever venture anywhere near the Masons Arms again. Great job Mark, Sarah and staff!
