Spoiler alert: my husband Tom Corbett was a contractor and home inspector in Chicago for more than 35 years. We are very demanding buyers. We told Eldridge up front that we wanted to "DRIVE THE BUS." That meant we were planning to do our homework, select the houses we wanted to see, and use contacts that we developed rather than those that were given to us by the real estate brokers. We moved to Portland to be near our daughter and her husband. We already knew the general area we were interested in living in. Eldridge lives in the area and he knows it. He was helpful and courteous, and got back to us in a timely way when we wanted to look at something. He was able to insert terms into the contract that were critical for us. He patiently waited while we had a thorough home inspection, then brought in all the contractors we wanted to give us bids for needed repairs. He was committed to ask for cash back on items we found on the inspection and he did it willingly and successfully. Eldridge was helpful and courteous, even when we made requests that required advocacy with the seller's broker. He turned our wants to our advantage within the deal; the price of our house came down. Apparently I misunderstood the intent of Ms. Harper's communication and designation of what was my responsibility. In response, I am going to share the actual verbiage of her email to me: "Mr. Jones, Did you even read through the documentation I sent? I am not suggesting you get the HOA document provided by the HOA. I am suggesting you fill out the SELLERS PROPERTY DISCLOSURES. And in fact, I'm suggesting you find another realtor. I am not going to deal with your attitude. Best, Ms. Harper" Shocking to say the least... We had set up a photo shoot that was two business days away and were set to list the house in four business days. All of a sudden, some standard questions become a resignation of service.
