I used centurylink internet and phone for about 3 years, until they raised the monthly price to about $150.00 per month. The original quote was around $60 per month, and then they actually charge about $120 per month, if you can believe that. When I finally disconnected due to their raising the price to $150/month, they asked me to send the DSL modem back, which had been leased. Well, I must've not included a cable or something, so about 2 months later I get a bill in the mail for $110.00. A few years ago, the phone company in Iowa didn't even want their DSL modem back! BUT - their tech support is EXCELLENT. The internet (DSL) speed where I live was about 7 mbs download/about 1 mbs upload. Sort of like living in 2005. In my area, there was no option to upgrade to faster speed. But the tech support was so good, I kept with them for about 3 years. Tech support included at no extra cost - FREE NORTON INTERNET SECURITY for the computer, and free computer tune ups. (Sign up for @ease tech support for a few pennies more per month.) Their techies always spoke real English and were always easy to understand and deal with. Tech support was available 24/7 which was very comforting. Since DSL is an ;old technology, the internet was actually just barely fast enough. The local phone was nice. When it rained, the internet often slowed down, but they were fast to come out to the house and tweak things. Same for the local phone service. Negative 15 stars, at least. We get hundreds of scam/fraud calls from criminals each month. The number of calls increases each month, from robo calls and spoofed numbers to non-fixed VoIP and local numbers based in New York. Century Link refuses to lift a finger to screen some of this even though I'm sure the technology exists. Criminals use our phone and service for which we pay to try to steal from us. Century Link doesn't seem to care. We also paid extra for phone ID and blocking numbers. Century Link allows a whole 25 numbers to be blocked. SO WHAT! Century Link is our provider for another day or three, THEN THEY ARE HISTORY. Switched home service to a cell-based carrier who are at least trying to stop some of these calls. AND, we'll have phone service for about 1/2 the money and unlimited long distance. Good riddance Century Link!!! read more

Wifi price is cheap because the service is super slow. Had to leave century link and go to fox because they had faster internet. As I tired to open this page, my Century Link internet dropped my connection-I'm not even making this up. Want a visual? Their bandwidth where my home is located, is like trying to shove a tube sock through a drinking straw. Every month when I try to pay my bill through their website, it's like Mark A. says, it's a huge pain in the ass. The site doesn't want to accept my account number, my e-mail or account doesn't exist, etc., etc...my account sure exists when they want money from me though. I've resorted to just overestimating what my bill is and paying through my bank. I'd switch internet companies immediately if it weren't such a hassle. I wished that I could give a zero or negative rating. The worst customer service that I have ever received! They misplaced my payments in the wrong account and disconnect the internet service on Friday. I found no one to talk to, chat online, or write emails to during the two whole days of the weekend! That's what you can get from an internet service provider in the 21 century! I've encountered several representatives they were all rude and/or impatient. One of them even hung up the phone on me! I did not yell nor raise up the voice and just called for questions and asked for details on the charges. In addition, they divided the responsibilities into too much details. One person handles only the new customer/new service so couldn't handle my questions on the payments. I got transferred. The 2nd person handled payments but couldn't see the details in my old and new accounts. She can only create payment "investigations" and ask me to call back again 7 days later. I have another business account and had to talk to the "business department". I returned the modem and she cannot answer if they received it and had to transfer me to the "customer care". And I was transferred at 4:03 PM, now I am still online waiting and it's 5:28 PM! Averagely speaking, I had to spend at least 1.5 hours dealing with them and with no result! 0 star, if I may. read more

Sure wish I had checked here before going through the hassle of learning the hard way. Cancelled after just 3 weeks of "service." They sent me one "refurbished" modem that could barely open a webpage (when it wasn't just dropping the connection altogether). When I complained about the spotty and slow service, they sent me a brand new modem. After about 2 days with this allegedly top of the line modem, it simply stopped connecting to the internet at all. When they tried to send me a third modem in as many weeks, I told them not to bother and to cancel my service. They have split up the customer service and technical assistance in such a way that nothing is ever anyone's responsibility to fix. Work full time? Good luck getting on the phone with the only group of customer service reps with any authority to actually help you. Their account system is so outdated that they recycle account numbers for new customers. Know what that means? You might get stuck dealing with the last account holder's issues. In almost 12 separate customer service calls, every single one told me they were clearing out the last account holder's info, and every single one never did. Apparently they've been consistently sending me e-mails to the last person's e-mail address. Also, unlike every other cable/internet provider in the nation, they don't immediately give you access to your online account. You have to wait up to ten days to get the info you need to create your online account. The garbage service I was paying for never broke 5mbps. I'm with Cox now getting almost 30mbps. Months later Century Link agreed we were correct and brought our balance down to what it should be. I paid it and thought we were finished with these swindlers. Low and behold a month later I get a collections notice for that balance that was incorrect. Wish I could give you a -5000000000 review... I've got a lot of issues with your company. 1. I had decent internet for the first months I had the service... than I moved... now it was never told to me that the area I was moving too was a bad area for centurylink service. Not once. Your company moved my service to a garbage area knowingly.. 2. The whole time after I moved 2.5 years I have been paying for high speed internet when we weren't ever getting anything better than DSL. But I'm still being charged $58 for the internet service, plus a $3.50 convenience fee since I have to pay by phone since your online bill pay option never works. 3. I have called consistently for 2.5 years because of the internet issue. Asked consistently for a tech to come out since there is no reason that I can be standing next to my modem and not be able to pick up the WiFi signal. Literally right next to the thing. And every time besides my last call Monday night has any one done anything except run remote tests on the modem and tell me if is fine. 4. Finally I was able to get a technician out, Tuesday morning who told me the modem was trash, they disqualify people for service in my area, and I will not get high-speed ever in my area. 5. I call to disconnect my service with your company and I speak to someone named Rachel. Now and this is almost by magic but my account cannot be verified by my last four of my social, so she states I cannot disconnect my services. I request a supervisor 6 times, she refuses. By this time I am livid. Finally I get to a supervisor named Shelly who also states they can not verify my account, mind you it's been verified countless times before so I cannot understand this and I hang up. I call technical support, am verified by the offshore representative and have her warm transfer me to a disconnection representative. I speak to Ashley and she apologizes and disconnects my service. I have filed a complaint with your company and will be contacting the better business bureau as well. It is a wonder that this company is still in business. Do not use their services. read more

Hands down, the worst provider I've ever come across. I've had issues w/ other providers, but they were always quick to resolve issues and I've never had it come back. I can't see how you can't seem to make a stable internet connection and keep it that way. I lose connection at random within 3 seconds to as long as 15 minutes. I had century link for a while now, maybe 18 months or so. I was generally please with their service, although I pay through a bank account vice their website. Recently, the special deal I had expired and my rate jumped from 24.99 to 47.99. Since the rate increase, the video streaming is a nightmare with the movie starting and stopping every 5-10 seconds or so. I thought I would call and see what was going on. First the system did not recognize my account number, the same number I had for 18 months or so; then it put me on hold. The kind voice told my my wait would be more than 3 minutes and it was right! I finally hung up after 31 minutes. In the meantime, I tried to navigate their website. It is not customer friendly. It appears it was designed to work within the company but is not a good interface for customers or future customers. It is, however, a great way to create former customers. where do i start? well let's start with the modem they kept trying to shove down my throat. i didnt want their modem, specifically told them not to send a modem. not once but twice, I had to chase the ups guy to return to sender. then they charged me for two months until they finally fixed it. now to their website. god, it is the worst and most difficult website i have ever had to navigate. it is not user friendly at all! it was a project trying to view my bill online. i had to devote at least 45 mins to get to my bill; more than once! now to their slow as snails service. did you know that they take the words "up to" x speed literally? if it's slower than the speed your paying for, it's ok to them because it falls within acceptable rates. did you also know that your speed is slowed by the number of users in your neighborhood? it was excuse after excuse... just go with cox! read more

I would like to start by saying how much of an inconveinence CenturyLink is! To start with when I signed up with them in August of 2016 I had a man scheduled to come out and install my services at a location here in Arizona. Well the day of my appointment the man calls me and asks me which house I was located at, I gave him instruction and everything, well after verifying a few things with him the man had the wrong city...He was 4 hours away from my home..The man who placed my order had verified my address multiple, multiple times!! I called CenturyLink and the man appologised for their inconvenience and sent another Tech and another order so I had two modems for two different account numbers! Then the guy finally came and installed the wrong modem, He installed the modem from the first order I placed. I called and made sure that this wouldn't affect anything, they assured me it would be fine...so my Internet servicExplorer had been fine until... I missed a bill payment (my fault of course, if I paid I wouldn't have went through all this) but some things needed to be paid over internet... So anyways I called and paid $316.00 on Thursday the 8th of August. Once again after the man reviewed my name, address, DOB, & last four of my social multiple times etc..he took my money said "yes, maam your Internet will be turned on today." OK, so I was on my way out of town and told him I'd check when I got home... I get home, no internet.....He took my money and didn't turn it on. I called back the following day because they were closed by the time I got home. I spoke to a women and she checked my account she said "she didn't see a payment made, and that the other Tech didn't do anything to restore your services." Another problem!! I told her what he had did and asked for and she apologised and said that there wasnt gonna be a tech available to come out until Wednesday! I told her "I was very upset that he took my money and didn't turn my services on!" Also that "he assured me it would be on the same day" and now she's saying it can't be turned on til Wednesday!?" I refused to wait that long! So she put me on hold for 38 minuets & 12 seconds to ask he manager, she got back on the phone and said "ok, so we could have someone out in 24 hrs to get it back on for you, she said someone will be out and by Monday morning it will be up and running." I wait till Monday and of course no damn Internet! So I call AGAIN! I speakers to a man and he said the same thing the girl did "she didn't do anything, she didn't put in an order to get it back on!" At this point I was pissed! This guy stated that he wouldn't be able to get someone out till Thursday to get it on!" I said "oh hell no!! My Internet will be on today! or I am leaving you!" He said "Thursday is the best that I can do if you want to call back tomorrow and speak to the manager you can." So I was very upset and hung up! I was too tired to call back the following day, I couldn't keep telling my story over and over again it was getting exhausting! So Thursday come and the instalation Tech calls me and says "he was here to install my services!?!?" I told him "I DIDN'T KNOW WHY THEY SENT SOMEONE OUT TO INSTALL A ORDER THAT I ALREADY HAVE!!" I apologised to him for their stupidity and incompetance to have him have to drive all the way out to install services for which I already have!" I called back and DEMANDED a manager I got "Jose accounts manager" "He apologised for all the inconveniences and that he would get this resolved right away and that he had his internal operator working on the problem and that by the time I get home from vacation on Saturday that I would have the Internet up and running." Now it is Sunday! I still have no internet and -$316.00 from my bank account. I called back today and this Tech can't have someone out till Tuesday and says that it could be an outside wire issue but if it is an inside wire issue that it will be an additional $84.00 to get it fixed!!! Are you f****** kidding me!!!??? I will not give them another dime!! These people are beyond me and I refuse to give any good recommendations to them for anything!!! I wish there was an option of choosing no stars! I am ending my services with them and going to a local honest company that will get the damn job done! read more

Phenomenally bad customer service because I can't even get installation. I've scheduled an install twice in two weeks. All I've asked for is a 30 minutes head's up via a phone call. They agreed. Phone call didn't happen the 1st time and Centurylink pushed it to today. I pro-actively phoned them at 10:00 am this morning to see where the tech was at -- an hour into the 4 hour window they gave me (9-1). They said the tech showed up and they cancelled the appointment and the next available (for the 3rd time) is a week out! They cancelled, pushed it another week out and didn't bother to call me. Really?!? Now my family is without TV and Internet for Thanksgiving while I'm recovering from surgery -- instead of being able to work from home I'm having to take a sick day because of lack of Internet access. Would prefer -5 stars, but they don't allow that. DO NOT USE CENTURYLINK! THEY ARE DISHONEST, RUDE, AND TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE CHILDREN WHO ARE HAVING TROUBLE LEARNING! I cancelled my services mid November because my apartment complex provides Internet now. I asked how much my last bill would be. I wanted to be prepared. I was told I needed to wait for a bill in the mail. While checking accounts online, I checked CenturyLink's out of habit. I saw that there was a bill of DOUBLE what I normally paid every month. I used their online chat option so I could do my work and get my problem resolved. The person on the other end was rude and treated me like I was a child who was having trouble learning how to tie my shoes. He told me that I had missed a payment and that was where the extra charge was from. We argued about that, since I was on their autopay system. He told me I needed to call since I didn't seem to be able to understand. He also told me to wait for a bill in the mail and he couldn't see if my card was on file. The next CSR I spoke to said that you pay the month in advance. She said that the amount I was shown was not correct and they were fixing it. She explained that's why they tell customer's to wait for the bill in the mail. I asked her if she could see if my card was still on file and if they were planning on charging it for the final amount. She said that there was no way to see that information since the account was in the process of being cancelled. I waited for the bill to come in the mail and paid it. Going over my bank statement, I noticed that CenturyLink had charged my card and cashed my check. This card charge was done 3 weeks after I cancelled services. I was on my lunch break when I noticed this, so I used their online chat system. It was 30 mins before someone got to me. I wanted email confirmation for the date my service was cancelled, email confirmation that my card was removed from their system, and a refund. Strangely enough, their system set up my final payment charge 3 days before my service cancelled. She couldn't explain this to me. She also couldn't tell me why I had previously been told to wait for a bill in the mail and she wasn't sure why I was told that they didn't know if my card was still on file, since she was looking at my card information. She did tell me that a refund check would arrive in about 2 weeks. She told me that there was no need to remove it since I have a $0 balance. That should keep the card from being charged again. I told her that was not good enough, since my card was charged 3 weeks after service was cancelled and people in the company had lied to me before. She became rude and said that she had explained that charge had been prepared on a certain date. I asked how that is possible, since they couldn't have known 3 days before I called to cancel that I was going to cancel. I was treated, again, like I was a child who was having trouble. I again told her I wanted my card information removed right away and I wanted email confirmation about when my service got cancelled that my card has been removed from their system. She told me to do that I would need to call and ask for a supervisor. I asked if she could relay the message to a supervisor to get this taken care of. She said she couldn't do that. So the next day, I called on my lunch and asked for a supervisor. The supervisor was even more rude and condescending than the rest of the staff. He said he could not send me an email of that nature because none exists. He felt the need to explain why my card was charged. He even claimed that his staff telling me to wait for a bill and pay at that time then charging my card was both legal and moral. He even had the gall to raise his voice when I argued with him. I was able to leave work early enough to contact their corporate office. The number I found online directed me to a local store. So I called their support center once again, to ask to be transferred to their corporate office. The person who answered transferred me to another CSR. She promised that my card had been removed from their system. I explained that since I have never been told the same thing twice that her word meant less than nothing to me. She placed me on hold again while she tried to find someone who had the ability to send me a letter with the information I was requesting. She told me that they don't have access Internet. I was on hold while she looked for someone who might be able to help. I'm sure it would've been longer, but their office closed and that means all their lines disconnect. Total hold time: 30 mins. I called the next day, but it was Saturday. I ranted on their Facebook page about my horrible experience and how I would rather go without Internet instead of pay them again. Monday I called in and was informed that their corporate office does not have inbound phones, so I need to write them a letter. He felt the need to rudely explain why my card was charged. read more

WIFI went out on Cyber Monday. Spent an hour w/ tech support after putting up w/ their 3rd class cut-rate voice "recognition". ( Fedx, UPS, & my insurance co. have had voice recognition down for decades !!!).After the imbecile insisted I change my user ID & password on 3 devices, nothing worked, I was disconnected, NEVER got a call back on the phone # it was "imperative" I leave w/ them "in case I get disconnected". Had to call back & fortunately ( apparently @ Century Link it's a roll of the dice as to the competence or lack there-of of the tech you get thru to), The competent tech changed everything back to original name/password, etc. & it all worked fine for 3 whole days! Had to call back again today. Kicked off the internet again. Spent an hour w/ a tech who decided I now need to set up a whole new tv-to-WIFI network !!! I had to INSIST, REPEATEDLY to talk w/ a supervisor or someone who could fix my connection. Thankfully the supervisor was competent, & in about 15 more minutes, everything was finally resolved. Yeah, buddy !!! inre; "Paperless Billing". They offer you their "best" rate if you go to paperless billing. Here's the catch; if you don't set up an online acct. & log in. your current rate expires, & they double or triple your monthly charges until you catch on, cancel, & negotiate a new deal (yes "negotiate", as when dealing w/ a used car salesman). Have been a Centurylink customer for 2.5 years and honestly I do not know why I have stuck with them. Must just be through laziness that I have not yet taken plunge and tried out the competitor's service. The only positive thing I can say about Centurylink is that my 40MB internet service works, but seriously that's all. Due to recent events (described in detail further below) I can say that I will now definitely be changing internet and telephone service! First of all, echoing the comments below, their customer service is absolutely horrific. On almost every occasion I have called their customer service I have been bounced around between service agents. Competence of the service agents seems to vary widely. But, to top it off, I recently noticed a dent in my credit rating. On investigating this I found out that Centurylink had forwarded a two year old charge for the modem to a collection agency. After hours of frustrating calls with Centurylink's customer service I was able to determine that problem had likely arisen when I transferred my service from my old address to my present address. I had explicitly instructed them to transfer the monthly modem lease charge to my new account, but they apparently didn't do that and instead sent a bill for the modem to my old address which I of-course never received. Despite fact that Centurylink had a record that I had transferred service (old address, new address, etc.) they never contacted me about the charge for the modem. Now I have a collection record on my credit to deal with! I have got absolutely nowhere on this matter after repeated, highly frustrating attempts with their customer service. Been bounced around like there is no tomorrow! Finally I gave up and visited their store in person in Chandler. The girl there was able to at-least transfer the past due amount from my old, closed account to my new account so that I could pay it. However, now that the past due amount has appeared in my new account there is absolutely no record or explanation for the charge that I can use as proof of payment! On approaching the Centurylink store again the next day to make more enquires about the past-due charge and how to best deal with it the staff were much less tolerant and frankly very arrogant. They were completely unable to see my side of the story and/or completely disinterested. What is so utterly frustrating is that this situation is Centurylink's responsibility in the first place! CenturyLink is a DISGUSTING organization with unbelievably horrible customer service. They inexplicably created three accounts for me and attempted to charge me for each of these accounts. Every month I had to spend my time and effort correcting their errors. They have awful business hours that are not conducive to dispute resolution. Their customer service is nil, absolutely non-existent. Their employees are incompetent. I would advise not giving these people any money, and certainly not letting them have access to your credit card or bank information. They are incredibly fraudulent in their activities. They do it under the guise of incompetence, but it seems to strategically negatively impact the customers' pocketbooks. Avoid this company like the plague. read more

In January 2015, I picked up a router/modem from the Century Link kiosk in the Paradise Valley Mall. I used the router/modem for a few months and returned the router/modem to the very same kiosk, when I moved from my apartment to my home in March of 2015. Without contacting me directly, Century Link has turned me over to collections for not returning the modem. I called Century Link directly and disputed the collection as I had already returned the router/modem. I have already spoken with Convergent ¿ a company that called without warning (as Century Link does not speak directly with customers apparently) that I owed $108.29 for not returning the router/modem. I challenged them with the assertion that I still had the router/modem and provided the details surrounding the returning of the router/modem. I am now being contacted by afni for the same. Let me state clearly that I will not be paying any funds for a router/modem that I have already returned. You will not blackmail me to preserve my excellent credit with these false accusations. Lack of quality record keeping on behalf of Century Link does not make me a thief. I will also be proving the same dispute to all the credit bureaus when this finally makes its way to my credit record. Worst Company ever. Had them 2 very very very long years in Sierra Vista, I think we've had 4 modems from them in 2 years, because they stop working. Or they send a tech out to give us a new one. Every time the tech comes out, it supposed to be free, for the issues were having. Then later on charged a ton for there visit. One time we had a tech come out, because we moved and also owned our modem we paid $100 for through century link, after the tech came out, we were charged $270 for a new modem and other fees, I contacted customers service probably every month the last 2 years with constant problems, we have a $270 credit on our account, after this experience, they wouldn't refund me back my money, but we're going to just deduct from the credit, for there mistake, it took 6 months of fighting them month after month, of finally getting my credit applied, horrible company, then finally recently I had a tech come out, and over the phone, the person told me. Anything done outside the house totally free. Doesn't cost a penny, I said ok, tech came out, only worked on the outside of the house, a couple weeks later, I get a bill for $145 for tech coming out, I call up and check on my bill, the person on the other line, looks at the techs notes, tech stated he had to rerun wiring on the inside of the house, has to stay longer than normal, extra work required, and the best part, tech stated that owner wasn't home, ok so how did the tech get inside my house if I wasn't there. I had to leave work and take PTO just so I could meet the guy. To show him outside of the house in my back yard. This was it. I stopped serve.
