Love this bar! I went here last Friday to see a bluegrass band called the Rusty Strings... they were great and so was this place! It's clean, comfortable (no smoking inside), and the bartenders and servers were all very nice and very attentive. There are plenty of places to sit, and also room in front of the stage for dancing. Lots of good Irish beer on tap and plenty of room in the bar to bring all your friends. I will go back here without a doubt. read more

The general manager of Ceol, Ron, is an ace at customer service and customer relations! I sent an email to the info@ceolirishpub.com requesting that the pub order a bottle of Aberlour A'bunadh single malt Scotch (try it, it is excellent). I not only received a speedy email reply from Ron via email, but a few days later I received a voice message from Ron telling me that the distributor had sent the wrong kind of Aberlour but that he was working on getting the correct one to Ceol even though he was spending a lot of time at his new place Fuego. Ron did two things immediately with his interaction with me. One, I can't wait to get back to visit Ceol which is one of my favorite pubs anyway. Two, Ron made me want to go to the other place he manages which is a tapas bar called Fuego http://www.yelp.com/biz/fuego-reno . I have never been to Fuego before and I haven't heard much about it, but finding out that Ron manages it makes me convinced that it is great. Thanks Ron, I look forward to seeing you again! So far this is my favorite bar in town. The service is always great and the place is super clean and nicely decorated. Love the chill ambiance of this place. I usually come here for happy hour (drinks are around $4) and I always have a great time. They have live music which gives this place extra points. I've only been here once with a few friends for happy hour and it was awesome. The drinks were insanely well priced and the atmosphere was ideal. The bartender, I believe his name was Andrew?, was so so nice. He'd come from behind the bar to our table just to see if we needed anything. He even brought us waters without asking! Absolutely love this place. The bartenders are awesome as is the owner. I'm a whiskey kinda person and I LOVE their selection. Even more, I love that the bartenders (at least the ones I've had) know whiskey. They are able to offer suggestions on what I might like and they haven't been wrong yet. I love going on Tuesdays because, while they may have things happening every night, Tuesday is when the band comes. This place is great! There's often live music and there's plenty of space to hang out with a group. Try their hot drinks. I love the cherry car bomb. It's hot chocolate with cherry flavored alcohol and it's the best on cold nights. I've heard they do trivia, but I've never been. Love the atmosphere here. It's rowdy enough on weekend nights to be a fun time, especially with live music and games, but a nice venue to visit with a small group on off-nights, with a calm, cozy feel. They have an excellent selection of beers available on tap, especially Irish varieties, which is a favorite aspect of mine when visiting. They have everything from pale ales to darker stouts, and they're all great. Service varies, of course, depending on what day and time you go, but it's consistently friendly, no matter if it's a rush or just a night off. Parking is always an adventure on weekend nights, since it's downtown with street parking down the alley, but I've never not been able to find a spot fairly close. Just definitely lock your car. I went in the other day by myself and introduced myself to the bartender, Wes. He was a very nice guy and I asked him if they had something similar to Guinness but not Guinness. He recommended me Murphy's which was on tap and it. was. AWESOME! Wes was very friendly and so were the other customers in their. I am definitely planning on coming back during their happy hour. Wes told me that is every day too from 3 to 7. That is awesome as well. It was my first time in there and I am definitely looking forward to going back in and meeting Ron, the owner. So I was researching best bars in Reno for my vacation and Ceol came up tops on lots of lists. I was beyond skeptical. I'm Irish. I love me an Irish pub. But I hate, hate, hate the Disneyfied "Authentic Irish Pub" experience (I'm looking at you Fadó) that have popped up in every city, village, hamlet, strip mall and airport. Ceol is not only a true Irish pub. It is a great one. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great top shelf whiskey (half price on Wednesday's), mostly locals there to have fun. And I never felt like I was going to turn around and see a Leprechaun mascot chucking out t-shirts. Well worth the trip if you are in Reno. read more

This place is exactly what I want in a neighborhood Irish pub, and it's conveniently only two blocks from our house. Warm & inviting, with friendly service and a great pour of Guinness. They have respectable beer and whiskey lists, and super enjoyable live music. This is the rare spot in midtown that doesn't feel overwhelmingly hipster and focuses on all the things that make you feel comfortable and at home. We love Ceol's! read more

Enjoyed my visit here the other night. Service doesn't get any better. Busy, almost crowded at 9:30, but easy enough to get a beverage. Atmosphere was super friendly. Live music was good, a bit heavy on the fiddle playing and light (meanng none) on traditional Irish ballads. Don't get me wrong, fiddle was well done, I was just in the mood for something different. Others have mentioned upscale and I'd agree that fits the decor. Cozy wouldn't be a word I'd use but friendly certainly applies. This place was great. The atmosphere was fun and the beer selection was awesome. I went on a Thursday night for trivia. The girl hosting was fun and funny. Unfortunately, they cut the trivia short because there were too many people in the bar. This is one of the reasons I pulled back from a 5-Star rating. If you're going to have trivia at a bar, shouldn't be to get people in there? I did take advantage of their order out in the bar type thing. Since Ceol doesn't serve it's own food, they have a couple of menus for other places that you can order from. They add the cost of the take out to your bar tab. They didn't, however, break out the prices too well. At the end of the night the waitress told me I had $25 in food and about the same in alcohol. The pizza I ordered was only supposed to be $15. So, I figured they added some gratuity that I didn't know about. This is the other reason I pulled back from the 5-Star. Overall, the place was very cool and I am sure that I'll go back. read more

I usually go on Thursday nights on which they hold weekly trivia. Me and my friends enjoy the event and they also have live music sometimes. The service is amazing and they have a huge selection of drinks including Irish beers. there is lounge seating, bar seating and table seating. You can sit in a busy area or you can tuck away into a quiet corner. St. Patrick's day gets pretty wild and fun here; I would recommend giving it a try. I love a great irish coffee. On a cold day in March, I had co-workers in town who were staying at the Siena. I had a cold and wanted an irish coffee, thinking the whiskey would make my throat feel better. I wasn't disappointed! It had a nice creamy foam on top flavored with a coffee liquor, which made it a bit different. I can't stand a place that makes an irish coffee with canned whipped cream, and figured they would have a good one here. There isn't any food available for purchase. However, I chatted with the owner and he said that they would run up the street to Blue Moon Pizza if they aren't too busy. Apparantly Butcher Boy caters in here for happy hours on Friday nights occasionally as well. That is another review (Butcher Boy) that I need to write! read more

So much fun, so relaxed, and so easy to lose track of time here. A good friend turned me on to this spot, and I'm glad she did! There's no smoking inside - though people litter the back entrances on the stairs, which really makes it inconvenient for someone "allergic" to cigarettes (as my doc says) to get in comfortably. BUT WHATEVER! Ceol is so fun that I just hold my breath and waltz on in! It's worth it! If I could afford to, I'd go here every weekend just to hang out. It seems as though it never has the same kind of crowd a lot of the other bars seem to have around Reno - young, stupid "kids" or annoying people. It carries a more mature atmosphere. Plus, you can order food to be delivered (they don't cook there, but they've got take-out menus for you to choose from) and they'll just put it on your tab for you. It's excellent! They also have a trivia night - I forget which night it is, but it gets pretty crowded and a bit loud. It's still fun to play along - just sit closer to the stage so you can actually hear. read more

An Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day that refuses to light the outdoor heaters in a blizzard because they don't want to waste the propane... at $8/beer and $45/tank for propane, don't you think it would be worth it to make your current patrons comfortable versus betting on the come of people later? Well this place was jumping . I think Saint Patrick's Day is the best day of the year to come to this bar. they had live music in the back and all the chairs from the inside of the bar when placed in the area behind the bar. A lively group of green clad revelers were taking advantage of $3 whiskey shots. They had a good selection of Irish beer and cider on tap too. Food service was setup from a local truck. Their special day today was corned beef sandwiches, and a rather unique corn beef sausage which I chose to have. It was love at the first bite.The sausage was very distinctly corned beef with a tight crispy skin, and went well with the bun mustard and pickles as condiments. The corned beef sandwich looked equally delicious and was dressed up quite a bit more than the sausage. Don't be shy there's still plenty of time to come down and enjoy the revelry. It's a long time till midnight and there's plenty of fun to be had . I met some interesting people and enjoyed a great afternoon. I'll be interested to go back to this bar on a regular day read more

Came for St Patricks day festivities. Our first time at this pub and we enjoyed ourselves. We of course has some Irish beers Harp/Guinness that were reasonably priced for the big day. Cold and from the keg is always a good thing. They had multiple bars all around due to the massive crowd. Constant live music which was good. We will definitely be back on a more mellow day so we can have the true experience that Coel has to offer. Just by what we saw I would recommend this to family and friends looking for a pub. Ever poured your own Guinness from the keg? Neither had I until I went to Ceol's! It's much more fun (and difficult) than it sounds. I have a blast every time I go here. The servers are nice and unobtrusive and are always helpful at suggesting a new drink to try. They have a good drink menu for whatever mood you're in. Make sure you check out the live music!! It's well worth the visit for that alone even if they didn't have great drinks. Fyi: Try the black velvet - half guinness, half cider - it's delicious if the guinness alone starts to get a little heavy for you. The irish carbombs are pretty smooth as well. read more

This is a great bar. Good selection of tasty beers, fun music, plenty of room to find a place to sit, and you don't smell like an ashtray when you leave! Our bartender, Kevin, was great. Really nice and attentive, even with a full bar. Even after my friend and I had a few drinks he was still willing to answer all our silly drunk girl questions. Just wish the parking was better. If you're lucky you might get to park in their poorly lit lot, if not you're choices are across the street at the Wild Orchid or on the street. read more

The place is really big with several different areas: secluded dart area, bar counter, and an open area with lots of tables and a stage for live music. Cody, our server, was very nice. Really, my only beef about the bar was that it was too bright. Dim the lights! This review is mainly for the Pub Quiz. Pub Quiz is every Thursday at 8:30. (The website says 8 but our server told us it starts at 8:30.) The place starts filling up so it's good to get there around 7:30 if you want a table, especially if you have a big group. The limit is 6 people per team. It's free to play. Anyway, in my mind, there are three main problems with the quiz: 1) There needs to be an award for most creative team name. Let the bartenders and servers decide which one they like best. 2) The MC reads the winners for each round, which is fine, but she should also read the three teams that are winning the quiz overall. 3) Each round consists of 7 questions each worth 10 points and 1 bonus question worth 30 points. Needless to say, the bonus questions are super obscure but if you don't get at least two, you cannot be competitive. Get rid of the bonus question and just make some more questions for each round. It would be fine if some of the questions in each round were more obscure than others but don't give them a 30-point value. It takes the fun out of the game. read more

Stellar bar. Excellent bartenders. I must say this was one of the quickest times I have been served at a bar and it continued all night! The bartenders were quick, didn't discriminate against me because I didn't have lady parts, and they were cheerful at the same time. None of them looked like they hated their jobs. Also, they have the best St. Paddy's day celebration in town! Nothing about the decor or bar itself is going to blow you away, but I really enjoy this place for a good beer. Probably the best Irish pub in Reno, certainly the most fun. Thursday nights are pub trivia nights, and they regularly feature bluegrass and Celtic music. Lots of beer on tap. One of my peeves is ordering a Guiness and getting one drafted out of a keg that is old and won't hold a head. Never a problem at Ceol -- always fresh, every time. Nice selection of Irish whiskeys and single malt Scotch too. They don't do much in the line of eats, but they will order from Noble Pie Co. Ceol is my favorite midtown spot to grab a pint and relax. Its casual atmosphere is comfortable enough to bring in groups of friends, have some quality date time, or enjoy a cocktail in solitude after a long day at work. There are no gaming machines or TVs, so focusing on the conversation and the music is easy in the well lit and spacious pub. I like dropping in for Whiskey Wednesdays for the whiskey specials, Trivia Thursdays to catch up with my friends, and weekends for the live music that plays. Ceol always has a good selection on draft and an attentive staff to keep our glasses half full. Aside from all of that, Happy Hour is from 3-7 and there's a popcorn machine. Alright, it's been awhile since I've written a review so please bare with me as I jump back in! I think the first question we all ask is.. How can something warrant a five star review? Well, I'll tell you - I have two key factors that define a five star review .. Product/service (duh!) and ambiance. Now obviously, you can't ask for the same ambiance at every location regardless of genre and you sure as heck can't ask for the same thing from products and services.. So let me tell you a bit about Ceol. First off, from what I understand.. It's pronounced 'key-ol' ... It's your friendly neighborhood Irish bar! With respect to product.. Their selection is great! I'm not a total connoisseur of alcohols but they've got great choices that I enjoy and... pour heavy! In particular, this tangerine ale (or some such) they have on tap is killer and great coming into summer! Also, a friend and highly qualified whisky drinker ;) mentioned they have a great whisky selection (makes sense, right!) .. Her favorite is the Jameson Castmates.. And apparently Ceol is one of the very few places on town that serves it. A huge asset to the bar is the service.. Staff can really make your break your experience and they've got great people! Ron was our bartender on this most recent visit and what a hoot he is! He can play the part of your everyday bar therapist, your amateur group photographer and selfie-taker .. Or... Dinner orderer! In other words, Ron graciously helped fill or stomachs by inviting us to order in food. We decided on having Pub&Sub delivered.. And Ron not only called in our order for us, but took care of the delivery and payment when they arrived! He just added it to our tab to take care of at the end of our visit. So, the second piece - the ambiance. This place is a gem in this regard and the reason it's review is bumped to 5 stars. Somehow the minute you walk in here, it's welcoming! For some of us, I might even say most of us, have a hard time walking into a place that seems unwelcoming out that you weren't invited -- this is not that place! It is pretty low key on a weekday but does pick up as it gets later into the evening. Both recent visits were after with drinks that kept us out until 9pm+! A great feature that adds to this ambiance I'd their themed week nights - Tunes Tuesday, Whisky Wednesday, and Quiz Thursday. I'm not quite sure if it's the same format every week but I'm sure every week it's fun, regardless! This week's Tune Tuesday was a jam sesh for Celtic musicians! It was not a prearranged group that came in and played on stage but instead a series of musicians that meandered in and just jumped into the session sitting around tables.... You definitely want to check this out! And if you are a fan of testing your knowledge, the Ceol Quiz Thursday is where you want to be! I was at my limit with the category 'American statues' but we kicked butt on the others ... sorta! Friday and Saturday, they bring in bands and various live music performers - all great! And how could I forget to add -- they have a great happy hour from 3-7! $3 Well Drinks, $4 Irish Coffees, $3 Premium Pints, and $3 Bottled Beers. By far, my favorite bar in Reno. It may have a little to do with my Irish roots, but if you're lucky enough to be there when there is live music- there's nothing like it. I always instantly feel transported. When the whole bar is singing rousing choruses of Irish songs, it's truly unreal. It's lovely & fun. The staff and owner are fantastic.
