Make sure you fit Death & Taxes into your schedule when in Reno. Incredible crafted cocktails that have unique flavor profiles and a clean presentation. Don't judge the bar by the outside (as it seems a little dingy), but once you step inside, you will be blown away with the elevated blacked-out interior thats giving Kat Von D vibes. Plus the music is loud and they are ready to serve the party! FYI- there is no food service here but there are many choices within feet away.

Craft cocktails? Yes please! Looking for a special bottle? For that one bottle most other bars don't have? Or perhaps for a craft cocktail made the right way? Say no more... this is your spot. Reno you're very Lucky to have a location like this that recognizes what a good craft cocktail should be. Using the right ingredients and liquors to make a delicious drink.... Yes, I'm more of a snob when it comes to a good drink so trust me when I say this spot is for you if you want a drink made right and tastes amazing. Props to Chad for treating us right and making some damn good drinks. We'll be back next time we're in town and you should too!

Small, dark and handsomely decorated. That's D&T in a nutshell. Wildly creative drinks both with and sans alcohol. We tried a Without Hope and a Ginger. Both were fantastic and beautiful. Our server didn't rush us as we were new to the menu. Drinks came out quickly. In midtown it should be on your drop by for a drink list.

What a cool cocktail bar!!! Absolutely loved my experience here when I was in town. It's like a late night night cap type of feel. Inside is all dark and moody, just the way I like my cocktail bars! Our servers were all amazing. They have a ton of cocktails to choose from. You scan a QR code to take you to the menu online. I of course ordered the Bees Knees because that's one of my faves. It was fantastic! The star of the show definitely is their secret booze room where you can buy nice bottles of liquor. It's behind their bar in a speakeasy type of door. SO COOL! Definitely ask a staff member to show you it, but only if they aren't too busy! It's really amazing in there. We spent a good amount of time here and even met some of the people around us. Such a cool spot! Definitely want to come back here on my next Reno trip!

This was a fun place to check out. The vibe is gothic speakeasy. The cocktails are craft and each one I tried was great. I tried the Palmorita first, it reminded me of an orange creamsicle pop. After that I tried the Dreamhouse which was served in a martini like glass, not with ice. It was sweet and tasty as well. My favorite which I did not snap a picture of unfortunately was the Ay Papi, it was so freaking good. Sweet from the basil and mint, green from the cilantro. This drink is so worth tasting, 10/10. I will absolutely be back with my girlfriends.

One of the best cocktail bars in town, although it does come with a higher cost- literally and figuratively. The parking situation is what you would expect from the area, which might involve a short walk from neighboring streets. The seating situation inside is also a bit of a challenge on their busier nights. The drinks are pricier than I would like, but they are very tasty. If you like refreshing drinks on the sweeter side of the spectrum, you should try the Scottish Samurai.

Came in specifically this time just to try the Carajillo they have been advertising on Instagram lately. So the drink itself, was great and the drinks here have always been great. Highly recommend trying that one out. It's cool to see them finally come out with something new, because I've been thinking a lot lately that they need to start adding some stuff to their menu. It's been the same for far too long when there's a lot of other bars out here is that are coming up with new drinks regularly. What really knocks it down to peg for me this time, is I found out the hard way, that they don't allow food at all. You can't eat any food inside, and you can't even eat any food outside on the patio. This is the first bar I've been to in Reno that doesn't allow food, and that is a total no go for me. We had ordered food from right across the street and the plan was to eat our one little appetizer and enjoy our cocktails on the patio then go walking around. So we literally had to drink our one cocktail and then go eat our food in the car.... Pretty lame and with that and the stale menu I see this as our last visit until something big changes. It's still a good spot if you've never been, the drinks won't disappoint, but to keep people coming back regularly they need to change up their menu. And maybe rethink the weird food policy outside at least

One of my absolute favorite cocktail places here in Reno! If you're looking for some great craft cocktails that are well-balanced and with wonderful flavor profiles, this is your place. My go-to's so far have been the Bee's Knees, Sezarac, Rags 2 Riches, and the Judas Priest. Their Old Fashioned is also, highly recommended by me too. The ambiance is one of my favorites, its dark, cozy, and exactly the vibe that I appreciate, Additionally, each bartender has been so wonderful, and they have been attentive and helpful with picking out what my next provision will be. Absolutely wonderful service, and truly one of my favorite places to hang out on the weekends.

We were in Reno for the weekend, and stopped at this hidden gem. Alexa was our bartender, all her recommendations were on point. My favorite was the Old Fashioned #2 and the Judahs Priest was my favorite!!! If you're in the area stop by and enjoy this cute laid back bar.

I'm not a huge fan of bar hopping in Reno but if I have to do it I definitely like adding Death & Taxes in the mix. Cool atmosphere with a fantastic cocktail menu. They also have some nice mocktail options too! Very quick and friendly staff that come take your order at your table area.

9 stars, can I give it a 9? I have been to lots of bourbon bars, this may be my favorite! I had to tell all my bourbon friends to visit! Ok, for most people, the place is really cute with the speakeasy vibe. They have a fabulous selection of mixed drinks, different than anyone out there. I'm not a huge mixed drink fan, but I really liked the ones I had. But the whisky!!! They have the best selection I have seen!! They have a room where you cam buy most with a huge selection of barrel picks. I'm kinda in love! I saved a whole lot of $ (I'm telling myself) by tasting some frequent reviews of Great whisky, but not my taste profile. I was able to pick up some very good buys on hard to find things I love. BTW, management should take Parker on the next barrel tasting trip. He was an awesome Bartender, we spent a lot on tasting of Unicorns such as King of Kentucky, Anitque 107 and Russel 15. We took home 3 Great bottles. Great job Parker! Not only will we be back, but I'm planning outings with this as the centerpiece!

Rags to Riches - this bar has the best vibe.

Great place, speakeasy like, very open with dark vibes. Quick service, array of drinks. Bartender was patient and let us ask many questions. Definitely a nice place for a cocktail.

While there, I picked up the binder containing the Whiskies list. Oh, my fricking Stars and Stripes...the whiskies list....! Was... Extensive. There were lists of bourbons, ryes, scotches by region (Speyside,Islay, Islands, etc) They had blended whiskies, flavored whiskies, and Irish whiskies. This was one of the most comprehensive lists of any place I've been. Gotta appreciate a good library whisky bar that allows you to try new regions without springing for a whole bottle.

Neat Whisky Bar is a concept bar within the Terrace Lounge. I'm not even sure Yelp allows that,…read morebut we'll see. Who says the only thing that matters is material. It goes something like this. Unless you look for it, it's Terrace Lounge, a corny casino cocktail lounge with some corny, terrible lounge singer. Most people there are visiting gamblers. They don't give a shit about craft cocktails or esoteric Scotches or bourbons. They order a gin and tonic or Maker's Mark and call it a night. But if you look carefully, you discover Neat Whisky Bar, and voila, it's suddenly a cool, hip whisky bar with 150 whiskies on the shelf. I guess it's pretty hipster that the bar is so obscure it has no material existence and Yelp may not even allow it to be reviewed. Wow, that's pretty hipster. I don't even think Chapel has that many whiskies although I keep imploring them to list their goddamn liquor. You know people just order whatever the hell is popular and corporate like Bushmills, Jameson, Maker's Mark. Those asshats at Chapel have Elmer T Lee and Rowan's Creek, but you'd never know unless you ask them. Anyhow, much applause to these guys for listing their whiskies and even better, at the back of the menu they provide a pretty decent short review of dozens of their whiskies. EVERY bar should do that. Educate your customers! I never knew so many Irish whiskies use bourbon barrels. Also, it's spelled whisky if it's from Canada or England and whiskey if it's from Ireland or America. It's called Scotch if it's from Scotland. No, it's not bourbon if it's from Kentucky. It's bourbon if it's made according to the rules (at least 51% corn, aged in new charred-oak barrels, made in America, bottled at 80 proof) so you can make Nevada bourbon if you wanted. The prices tend to be on the high side for Reno like $9.50 for a Maker's and $8 for Buffalo Trace. They say they pour 2 oz which I guess makes up for it, although most bartenders if they like you will pour 2 oz. The only really rare bourbon they have is the Pappy 15 year for $18, although they do have a lot of independent bourbons, surprising for a casino that prides itself on corporate bullshit beer and liquor. They have awful and small ice. I wouldn't get anything on the rocks here. They only had several cocktails listed and not many classic cocktails. I get the idea they're flirting with change but not making any commitment. Besides the people smoking at the bar and not giving a sh t that there were 150 whiskies, the only real annoyance was the goddamn singer who was virtually screaming and screeching. It was unbearable. Then she started singing Christmas songs and I had to leave. Christmas songs are terrible enough sung well, sung terribly, they're a form of torture.

A fun and unique way to sort cocktails. They also have a selection of beer on draft and wine. The drinks can also be made into mocktails- a win for our group since we had a few non-drinkers. The 1859 mocktail was great. Perfectly sweet with a small hit of miso flavor from the miso honey. Probably even better and more balanced with the whiskey! Others in my group enjoyed working their way through the many light, dark, and sour beers on tap. 1864 offers a classic, relaxed atmosphere and a great place to get a cocktail. How about a partial refund? What was very disappointing was no coffee in the morning for two days. I booked this hotel in part because there was a cafe downstairs. The cleaning woman, who was the only person on staff present, said the baristas just didn't show up. I got a croissant before I left and the fill-in barista, though very sweet, had no experience. They said this a few times without any prompting and I tipped them well and felt sorry they had to show up and try to figure out the espresso machine. Though it was no fault of theirs, this hotel really didn't live up to its aesthetic or basic services.
