88 dollars for two plates and a drink. Incredibly high priced. Walked in blind on that one i guess. I was hungry and wanted to give it a shot. I will start by saying my sandwich and beer were tasty and good. They will boast all local ingredients, but 30 bucks for a cheese steak on ciabatta bread is steep. The burger my wife had was the same price and nothing special to note exept she ordered no tomato and it came with tomato. Both of our fries were soggy and cold. A draft beer for 16 dollars is also more than expected. Our bartender was professional and chatty. He did pull a nice bottle of tequila down for us to admire, and told us about some other fancy top shelf stuff they had. I appreciate they were even open. Service was great, everyone looked taken care of. The place looked clean; and the food looked great everywhere, ours just flopped. All of the other patrons there were probably late 50s and up at 2pm on Memorial day. This is one of the most expensive underwhelming lunches I've had ever had in Reno. After eight years, I think it is time for an update. Our most recent visit was overall good. We made a reservation, but on a Thursday evening, it was not full. We were given a choice where we wanted to sit. Water and menus were brought right away. Kenyon our server, took drink orders and on returning took our meal orders. Overall service was good and our satisfaction was checked. I had the Tiger Prawns and Grits. My best beloved had Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Both were very generous portions. The prawns were very good. The grits were a bit runny (I prefer dryer grits) but tasty. My husband said the chicken tasted good, but was a bit overcooked. We shared a Tiramisu for dessert. We felt the food was good, but nothing swoon worthy considering the price. The atmosphere is cozy, but did not feel closterphobic. Is it worth a return visit? Yes. read more

We stopped in on a Wednesday after my sister/brother-in-law arrived to town. Overall, it was pretty good! Here is what we noticed: - Great atmosphere inside, with a very cool bar. We sat at a small table near the bar and there wasn't a single person in the place (we were there around 11:15am). - Huge menu. We picked Homegrown because we wanted to have both lunch and breakfast options. And, there were a lot of local beer options on draft. - My wife and I split both the Vegan Breakfast Tacos and the After School Special. The tacos were the best of the two entrees...very tasty and we also enjoyed the side sweet potatoes. The grilled cheese sandwich was pretty normal, but the tomato basil soup was especially good. - As we were the only folks in the place, service was very attentive. Our serve noted that she was fairly new to working there, and made one small error, but it was nothing problematic. I had the chicken and waffles the fried chicken was cooked ok but was like chicken strips and I was expecting to get a wing or a leg and a more flavorful breading. The brussel sprout side does not live up to what we are getting at gastro pubs these days they were not crispy and had a low quality balsamic drizzled. My partner got a burger which was not bad but over salted. The pricing doesn't make sense. They were about the circumference of a dipping sauce container. The flavor was nice but $30 for a couple bites hurts. Hands down some of the very best food Reno has to offer. I'm only sad I haven't tried this place earlier. The service was amazing as was the restaurant's extensive offerings of organic produce, all natural, uncured, antibiotic/hormone-free meats & dairy, wild Alaskan seafood, local organic bread from Beloved's Bread, organic pasture raised eggs from Kool Kids Ranch, and their pizzas are made from imported Italian 00 Flour. It was hard to choose from the wonderful array of healthy options but although fully a carnivorous person, this evening a Vegetarian Portobello Mushroom Stack caught my eye and I tried that. It was wonderful! It featured Balsamic panko crusted organic portabella mushrooms, layered with natural goat cheese, organic quinoa and grilled zucchini, served over organic wilted swiss chard, roasted brussel sprouts and a house oven roasted tomato sauce. The evening was pricey but expected when you have so many clean, organic ingredients on the menu...! The interior has a really cool feel showcasing a classy copper accented ceiling with antique chandeliers. It came out and tasted OK, but for $20 i was expecting more of a visual experience as well and something that tasted a little more elevated. Just felt like an overpriced ok mango margarita. I last ate at Homegrown Gastropub several years ago, so when my wife and I were looking for a nice casual dinner option after a Yelp event, this was an easy decision since it was close by and open late. We were seated quickly upon arrival and had a nice table by the window. Our server took our drink order quickly, we both got a pigeon head IPA that was alright, a little heady but was drinkable. The beer menu has several local brews which is nice. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my wife ordered a small salad, which was still pretty large. The chicken and waffles were alright, I expected the chicken to be more of a buttermilk thick breast, but as pictured they are more of a chicken fried chicken patty. There were 3 patties which was more than enough for the meal, glad I was sharing! The brussel sprouts wee good, not great. A little over cooked and mushy, would prefer more of a roasted crispy style but still worth eating. The service was good, casual which I appreciate, they knew when to check on us but also gave us space to enjoy our conversation. I understand that Homegrown is sourcing their ingredients locally and uses organic, etc. but the prices seem a bit high for me. I think having the sandwich options available after 5PM would be nice. I would come back, but may hesitate a bit to see if I'm willing to splurge on a pub style meal. Coming in for lunch or breakfast may be a better option for me as those menus seemed a little more reasonable and had options that appealed to me. Needed a late lunch, and there was parking near by. I walked in to the dark pub, my eyes still acclimating to the change from outside bright sun to dark and cozy. A woman seated at the bar asked how many? She never got up. And pointed at a table near by. It seemed a little strange, the bartender's girlfriend helping out? It wasn't super busy at 3pm one group seated and eating and another couple came in after me. I had already checked out the menu in the parking lot so my order was quick. Old Rose cocktail and the BBQ Pulled pork sandwich. I was excited to try the "white kimchi" that came on the sandwich. The drink was served pretty quick, love giant ice cubs with my whisky! I enjoyed the moderately loud music, grooving along with T Rex while I waited. Turns out that woman at the bar was an employee, ending her shift. Bartender at this point was on his own and handling it all. Checking out my sandwich when it came out, I noticed purple cabbage, not white kimchi, slight disappointment, and I usually avoid shoestring fries as they are usually under cooked and limp or over cooked and dry. To my suprise there was only one big limp one right on top. The rest were perfectly cooked. The sandwich was good, a saucy fork and knife situation. While not, white kimchi, the purple cabbage was crisp and flavorful with a slight afterburn of spices. There was also "entertainment". A street person walked in the door and started yelling "work with me!" Over and over. He wanted fries, and the bartender let him know "not right now!" Street person left. Obviously this establishment has given this guy free fries in the past. Sadly no good deed goes unpunished. If you give them anything, they will be back. Of course I wrote a very negative review and the owner professionally reached out apologizing and asking questions regarding who the server was. Said he hoped he could earn my business back... AND HE HAS! Went there with my son and his girlfriend and had a wonderful meal start to finish! Excellent food, great service (thanks Destiny), and a seemingly freshening of the ambiance which I've always liked! The coffee homegrown something was very delightful. It's a newer coffee that they are trying from a local vendor. Which is always nice that their local homegrown and that they use local companies. I got the steak and eggs was very tasty, the steak was cooked Perfect. Eggs were cooked Perfect there was plenty of food. Also, the chicken fried steak was super tasty plenty of it. Just tried out Homegrown Gastropub. Super cool place with vintage looking decorations and super nice staff, right in Midtown. We tried the Moscow Mule and the Berry Sangria, both were so good! The mule was served in the classic copper cup and the berry sangria was perfect for a hot summer afternoon. Refreshing and not too sweet or too tart. For food, we had the chicken and waffles and the steak salad. Generous portions without being overwhelming. The steak was tender, seasoned wonderfully and was a perfect medium rare. They served just the right amount of dressing on the side and the vegetables were fresh and crisp. But, the chicken and waffles were insane! The chicken was delicious, as was the waffle, but the syrup made it! The homemade French fries were so good and there was enough to share. The service was excellent and the food came out very quickly! They greeted every person as soon as they entered. When a restaurant has over 1,100 reviews, many of which mention inconsistent service, with about half being negative, you'd hope management would take notice and make changes. It's a cool little spot, and we had 6:00 reservations. There was only one other table when we arrived, yet our server was practically nonexistent. He never checked on us (the busboy did), didn't ask if we wanted another $20 Paloma, dessert, or anything else. He simply dropped off a to-go box and disappeared. The food was just okay...honestly, a bit bland. I had the shrimp and grits, and while the flavors were fine, the grits were VERY dry. My husband had the portobello mushroom stack, which was good but also lacking in flavor. For a $125 dinner for two (two drinks and two entrées), we expected a much better experience. The room was nicely decorated and I was immediately seated, provided with a menu, and asked if I wanted something to drink. I ordered a beer and it was brought immediately to my table. I looked at the menu and found it to be pricey. Anyway, as long as the food is good and the portion is descent, I really don't care about the price so I ordered the $35 Wild Alaskan Salmon Benedict (it's served with country style potatoes). The plate was mostly potatoes with two small biscuits, two eggs, and two tiny pieces of salmon. Unfortunately, the biscuits were hard and the biscuits (as well as the salmon) had no flavor. The potatoes were tasty and tender. Please give this place a try. Avoid the salmon but try one of the many other items on the menu. read more
