Debbie, the property manager at the time, was wonderful and made our move-in experience easy. I truly appreciated all of her help.
Unfortunately, the apartments look much nicer than the quality behind them. The black finishes and white paint give a modern look, but we quickly noticed uneven walls, uneven shelving, nails painted over instead of properly repaired, and extremely thin walls and ceilings. You can hear nearly everything your neighbors are doing.
Everything was fine until people moved into the apartment above us. We dealt with constant stomping, screaming, jumping, and loud banging. As a first-time mom with a newborn, it became overwhelming. Around the same time, I started finding cockroaches in our apartment. Debbie responded quickly by sending pest control twice, which I appreciated, but one morning I stepped barefoot on a cockroach while changing my newborn's diaper. It was absolutely disgusting.
After those neighbors moved out, another family moved in upstairs, and the noise became even worse. There was constant running, jumping, yelling, and objects being dropped from the upstairs patio. I filed numerous security reports and repeatedly contacted the office, but I was continually told to keep making reports. Security would briefly listen outside and leave if they didn't hear anything at that exact moment. I never felt the problem was actually addressed.
One night, an extremely loud pounding shook our apartment so hard I thought someone was pounding on my front door. It even startled my dog, who rarely barks. I sent the video to management and was told it was "normal household noise." I'll let others decide for themselves when I attach the video.
Safety was another concern. Shortly after moving in, someone broke into my car and stole my work backpack, AirPods, and work equipment. At the time there were no security cameras, although cameras have since been installed. The property also isn't gated, and I frequently saw homeless individuals going through the dumpsters and broken glass left in the parking lot.
The laundry room was another disappointment. The machines are very small, cost $2 to wash and $2 to dry, and often required multiple dryers just to finish one load.
Another frustrating issue involved our rent. We signed at a promotional rate, but the resident portal constantly showed the higher market rent. We were told not to worry about it, but the credits were eventually applied all at once instead of throughout the lease, making budgeting unnecessarily confusing.
Overall, I appreciated Debbie, but after management changed to Sanjana, our experience steadily declined. Between the poor construction, constant noise, pest issues, security concerns, and lack of follow-through from management, I cannot recommend living here. Standiford Court shares management with Marc at 1800 and Pacific Crest, so I encourage anyone considering these properties to do plenty of research before signing a lease.
