This Cermak has a great selection of almost everything you can think of. The fresh produce section is massive and truly international. All the aisles are labeled by nationality. The bakery, freezer and deli areas also impress with their huge assortment. Service can be a little hit or miss and price labeling can be frustrating, but this is a fun place to shop for international foods. So I went in to buy tea. The tea I wanted was located in a Caribbean section of the store listed as Grace's Ginger Tea. All of the other teas near it were listed as $2.99. There is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT section for standard teas. Those prices range from$3-$8. I again chose from the Caribbean section of teas. Because they didn't have the price listed for Grace's tea the young lady with customer service marks up to $4.99. Context clues... if all of the other teas near Grace's is $2.99 why mark it up?! Because you don't know?! So I googled the price Cermak has the tea listed as. It's $2.99. I bring the information to customer service and instead of acknowledging the error the MORON says. "That's impossible to be our store because we don't offer online shopping." Are you f*cking serious?! It literally says Cermak in my search. You cannot be this stupid. An amazing selection of produce and international dry goods. Their bakery produces fresh tortillas and there is a hot bar where lunch would be easy and inexpensive to procure. We have gone twice now and will continue when we need eclectic goods and amazing produce. The store is clean and there are plenty of cashiers to quickly get you out the door. Cermak is a one stop shop for the majority of your grocery and household needs. They always have produce at slightly better prices than their competitors. What is usually really expensive is their proteins, milk, and deli. We mainly frequent cermak for their produce. Overall the staff is friendly and the store is clean and well stocked. They also have a variety of ethnic foods/snacks that I don't see at many other stores around Milwaukee. read more

Cermak's has a wide selection of items not available elsewhere, a fairly good produce section, and an interesting array of butcher shop, deli, and ethnic food items. However, their prices are generally high (sometimes ridiculously high, especially for brand name items available elsewhere), which seems to go against their perceived market catering to Milwaukee's lower and middle classes. (This is no Sendik's folks, and you are not going to find many suburbanites shopping here.) I can't help sensing that Cermak takes advantage of a lot of folks who either do not know or who don't have reasonably priced alternatives near where they live. This is NOT a "luxury" grocery store with great service and atmosphere. It is in a neighborhood that is deteriorating and increasingly seems less safe. Recently shopped at the Cermak store on Miller Park Way in West Allis. I like shopping here for the great variety of foods and their great produce area, but don't get here often because it's not convenient from my area of town. Unfortunately this visit was not a pleasant experience. I have never had to deal with a ruder or as unfriendly a staff as I did today. No hello, no thank you, ignored at self serve fresh food counter while staff talked with one another. I realize that many staff members only speak English as a second language, but saying hello or thank you shouldn't be difficult and could be expressed in any language and be appreciated by the customer. Hopefully the management here will make an effort to make their customers feel welcome by encouraging the staff to be courteous. read more

Cermak is about to become the second grocery store I've done a review for. The first was Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati (highly recommend) and now Cermak. Cermak is just a fun store to wander through. There's an exceptionally large produce department with excellent pricing. They offer freshly made tortillas and have a phenomenal bakery with a self serve churro counter. There's food from around the world, but a definite focus on Hispanic flavor. They have an excellent house made salsa and a hot food deli counter making Cermak a great spot to grab a quick bite to eat. There's much to see in Cermak and just a fun experience beyond that of a boring trip to the same old grocery store. read more

I was in the neighborhood for an appointment and was happy about my $70 shopping experience until the cashiering manager "accused" me of trying to "steal" a $2 shopping bag that I had already told the cashier repeatedly... several times that I was going to get from a nearby but closed lane because he only had 1 and in my opinion, wasn't in good selling condition. I'd also noticed that the closed lanes had a larger quantity of bags but only 2 lanes had black bags. His lane was the only opened lane, btw. So, I had left my bagged and purchased items in the cart I was using near the register/lane I was in as my son was behind me making a purchase as well. I told the cashier to add my 1 bag to his order but I was going to get a fresher looking bag from another register. So I'd walked over, grabbed 4 bags and brought them back to his lane so I could buy the agreed 1 fresher looking bag and to give him a few (3) for other customers. Anyway, I thought I was being helpful but received a headache. SMH. End of story...I was rudely treated and no one apologized. My conclusion is, they'll never get another dime from me or from anyone I know. read more

Cermak on Miller Parkway is a whole experience! I very much enjoy the store. However, Ive had the same problem repeatedly and want to call attention to it. I really enjoy the quesdillas made in the store in the hot food section. The ladies have NEVER been able to get my order exactly how I want it. If I ask for mild sauce, they give you hot. I asked that my quesadilla be cut in 4 pieces, they give me 3. NO lady back there cooking is every able to get my order correct because instead of them listening to the person theyre making food for theyre busy speaking spanish to one another. This has happened more than 1/2 of dozen times over the yrs. The ladies will look right in your face, ask you what you want and then do whatever they feel like with your food cause they cant remember the order as they are too busy running their mouths to recall!!!! Its happened too many times now and Im tired of it. I come all the way from the northside for a quesdilla only to be dissappointed because a cook cant be quiet and pay attention long enough to get an order right. I've loved Cermak since they showed up on the scene a few years ago. The fact that I can walk out of there with pounds and pounds of produce for just a few bucks is wonderful! And the quality of the produce is great! I often see employees weeding out bad produce so customers get the best quality every time. I also enjoy the specials throughout the store, especially the unadvertised ones that have drastic price cuts because an expiration date is coming up in a week or so. The cheese and olive selection is also quite impressive, as I've tasted many varieties of cheese I wouldn't have without their samples (always worth checking out the samples!). The variety of foods from different countries is vast and bulk options available in some foods too (at of course a very low price). I can always find something new to try and many things better priced than other stores. Like any store, they have a weekly ad so check that out too. The store is pretty busy on the weekends so I would recommend going later in the day or during the week if you don't want to fight the crowds (especially in the produce and deli sections). The checkout lanes rarely have more than a few people deep before additional lines are opened up, even during the busiest times. I recently went to the one in Walker's Point- no European and Asian sections. It was a huge disappointment. This Cermak also has a much larger produce section. Positives: This market is a WOW for the abundance of lavish, well stocked produce from around the country and, for that matter, the world. I mean, I grew up in the Los Angeles produce market and I'm seeing some things like edible roots and cacti that I never saw before. Not only does the produce visually impress, but the produce prices are reasonable; definitely beating the prices of like or same items in the produce departments of Pick and Save or Sentry. Same goes for the butcher department. Seriously, just a HUGE selection of every type of meat imaginable. They serve up butchered chickens in ways I've never seen before, including but not limited to actually cutting chicken leg bones in half and packaging them plain or in several varities of Cermak's own marinades. Speaking of marinades, all popular cuts of meats are packaged and ready to take home in a variety of marinades. I have yet to try any of the marinades, yet, but they also look very impressive. It is safe to say that if you are looking for any particular cut of beef, steak, pork, chicken and even veal, you'll have a much better chance of finding it here than anywhere else. Parking is not a problem here. A very, very large parking lot means you won't have to worry about finding a parking place. Negatives: Perusing basic grocery items on shelves, I noticed that some pricing on items I'm familiar with purchasing at Metcalfs, for instance, are actually a tad higher, so use caution and know your product's costs before shopping for staples at Cermak. read more

I have had my issues with this store and it's still a love hate relationship but the one aspect of the store that I have not had any issues with is the house made departments. I love going out for Mexican food and getting the whole works on one plate but sometimes I just want the the sweet parts of the plate like a nice hunk of carnitas on corn tortillas with out none of the other stuff. I have never tried to order just a plate of carnitas and corn tortillas and I don't know if I ever will because Cermak has me covered. Cermak has fresh made corn tortillas that you can watch getting made and they pile them on the counter in three different sizes. Next walk diagonally to the opposite corner of the store and fresh made carnitas and Barbacoa among other hot items are waiting, today's carnitas looked good and fresh because they were not all picked over with mostly skin and bones left so I lucked out. Fresh made warm carnitas on the fresh corn tortillas is just one of those foods that is very comforting and satisfying in a strange way for me that I just have to get from time to time, the simple corn taste of the tortillas matched with the flavorful carnitas is just food simplicity at its best. This will be the one thing that keeps me coming back even with my other issues with the store. read more

On Miller Parkway we finally got our first Cermak Fresh Market grocery store. This is fairly close by this ball park so it would be a great place to pick up tailgate supplies or meet up and carpool with a DD. So I Finally got a chance to get to the new grocery store in the area. I'm not sure about the name but it sounds very close to the street in Chinatown in Chicago also known as the Red line Cermak-Chinatown stop for 'L' for elevated train, some competition for Pick n Save. Great selections to choose from in many departments. I think I counted 6-7 varieties of braunchschweiger here. This place a wonderful supply of produce, ethnic foods, deli, bakery, tortilla, meat, cheese salsa and Guacamole . I wish we would have come here hungry we certainly would have got more and spent more. Pineapple was 1 dollar each!!!! usually 3-4 dollars everywhere else. I seem a lady get 12 of them. I wonder what she will do with all of that?? Drinks? salsa? Juicer craze? Either way its a great deal. Lastly they have all kinds of rare ethnic snacks and drinks example Cockta soda. See pic. Food: 4 pretty great specials many products seem to come from Chicago. Some of the fish started to have cloudy eyes. But they do have head on fish so that is pretty good. Ambiance: 5 fairly new decor new clean carts wide aisles. Service: 4 friendly stockers and register operators. Location: 2 not very close to where I live but it's close to Miller Park. Quite impressive and well worth a visit. Cermak Fresh Market reminds me a lot of the El Rey on 51st and Oklahoma where the emphasis is on Hispanic products but with a fair amount of other interesting stuff thrown in. The produce area is pretty epic - They've got it all, and at good prices (at least opening weekend). Everything looked fresh and really good and was being constantly restocked by a small army of employees. In addition to traditional groceries, there is a huge selection of ethnic delights. The large part of that is Hispanic with fresh tortillas, sofrito, salsa and a whole row of queso. There's a smaller, but well chosen, selection of Indian, Asian and Mediterranean products. They've also got a surprisingly large stock of Eastern European (mostly Polish) goods. Since it was opening weekend, the place was packed but the friendly staff seemed to be keeping up. We left with fresh fruit, German sausages and a crazy amount of super cheap Polish mineral water. I can't say that Cermak would replace El Rey or Pacific Produce for me but there's a lot to like about it and I'll definitely add it to my grocery rotation. read more

I really like Cermak because it's convenient to get there from any side of town and the store is huge. There are few items I was not able to find here while searching for specific brands. I'm all for fresh produce. I don't know of any store in MKE that has a more vast selection of produce. Of note, they do not seem to stock herbs like fresh basil or rosemary. (I couldn't find it, nor did staff know where it could be found) I'm picky about meat. I was a little hesitant to purchase any here as I prefer grass-fed variants, but I picked up some beef ribs to make short braised short ribs and was not disappointed with the taste. Their house-made chorizo is spicy and cheap and works well as a crumble for other dishes. They've got a tortilla factory in the back that pumps out chips and tortillas. I like the texture of the chips but prefer El Rey. Huge selection of cheese at great prices. The hot bar is also decent. I've picked up a torta while shopping and it was comparable to those from other local food trucks. The checkout staff has always been way friendly. read more

I've been to Cermak on several occasions now and love some aspects while I'm less enthusiastic about others. What I love: +I have long contended that you can tell a lot about a grocery store by their produce department. Is it fresh? Well organized? If so, this bodes well for the quality and organization of the store as a whole. Cermak's produce selection is not only vast and well stocked--it's beautifully fresh and fabulous as well. I'm so disappointed in this store. I looked online before I left my house & saw that the store closed at 9pm. I got there at 8:40 with the intention to run into the store, grab 1 thing and get out. A man who I assume was on the clock was standing outside and said you can't go in, we are closing. I replied with yeah at 9pm I have 15 min to run in quick and he said no, we close at 8:40 and it's 8:42.. you can't come in. I immediately got pissed by his tone and he could tell. This local is about twice as big as the Walker's Point location. I had to make a quick run into the store for a tailgate at Miller Park and had to run the whole length of the store only to find what I needed in the beginning. There are two sets of separated aisles for each aisle. Always a variety of produce at both Cermaks that is off the beaten path. I was sorry I couldn't explore more but we had a tailgate to tend to. read more

Beautiful high end grocery, this one is bigger than the one in my neighborhood, but I don't like it as much. The workers aren't as friendly. The produce is excellent in quality but a little higher in price than Woodmans or Supermercado El Rey. It's not as pretentious as Whole Foods and the prices are better, so it's kind of intermediate in terms of being economical. I will come here when I want my good to look really good, but for regular shopping for everyday meals I think I prefer Woodmans, the Pig, or El Rey. read more

This is a harder review to write because as much as I'd like for everything to be great, they are a bit all over the place. So I'm going rate individual elements, take it for what you would like. Variety of produce - 5 stars. They have everything! Many ethnic produce selections. Need baby bok choy, they have it. Need red and green prickly pear, got it. Dragonfruit, no problem. Produce that you use within 24 hours of leaving the store - 4 stars. If you put your produce to work and eat it, cook it, pickle it, or otherwise alter it thing go fine. Produce that you keep more than a day - 2 stars. You will see a quick deterioration. Peppers will have more wrinkles that Joan Rivers. Fruit will become sallow and implode in on itself. Potatoes will get soft. The inside of cucumbers will turn to mush. The only produce I have not had an issue with are bananas and ginger. Selection of ethnic food items - 4 stars. Making Thai? There's an aisle for that. Grandma's Slovenia recipe? There's an aisle for that. Salt cod on your list? You've come to the right place. Prices - 2 stars. The aforementioned produce is great, again get to work using it. But on the rest of the store (ethnic items, beverages, and bakery/deli) the prices are quite high. Maybe not Pick N' Save high, but certainly higher than Woodmans, where most of these items can be found. Bonus item - hot tamales from the deli - 4 stars. The hot deli is sporadic in their offers and some items have been sitting out for quite some time. But the six packs of tamales, prepackaged and ready to go out the door with you are fantastic. Peel back the soft corn husks and you will find the tastiest of tortilla surrounding well seasoned fillings. If available my go to is the Chicken Mole, it's tender white bird wrapped in the flavorful but not too abundant filling. I was very excited to read there will be another Cermak in town, this one in Walker's Point. And I have high hopes that by then some of these issues can be improved upon. Until then one needs to be a smart and informed shopper, know how old produce looks, and know your prices and you'll do just fine. read more

Produce - 5 stars! Cheeses, homemade tortillas & cracklins - 5 stars! Everything else - 2 stars :( The bakery has a lot of dried out items, some are ok though, its really hit and miss. Dulce de leche was good, the cupcakes had way too much food coloring, enough to dye a load of laundry! and the other cake I tried, forgot what kind was horrible, dry as paper. I've tried twice now on their steaks, and something is wrong w their beef!! The first went rancid after a couple days, the second bought & made same day was the chewiest porterhouse EVER! Let's start with the good about Cermak. First, they have an amazing selection of produce. You can find some very obscure fruits and veggies. Second, most of their prices are ridiculously low (celery $.49 per bag). They have some great deals in the front of their store. They sell Boar's Head meats and have amazing deli selections like olives, feta, cheese bar, etc. Finally, they have great ethnic selections. Now to the not so pretty....the health code violations are crazy! If you read about this location and then google Cermak Chicago health code violations you might not shop these stores. I can understand mistakes are made but the violations are not fixed which resulted in a very hefty fine for this location in 9/2014. Personally, now I will purchase their fresh tortillas and stick to the produce. No meat or deli purchases for me. I hope they get their act together because this store has great potential and is going to open another Milwaukee location in 2015. I think I am being generous with three stars because of the "ick" factor. read more

Welcome to Milwaukee Cermak foods! This location is better than many of the Chicago locations for sure! When you enter Cermak it is as if you are entering the international terminal at a major airport - for food! You look around, there are lights way up in high ceilings, and an amazing array of diversity at every turn. As you enter through the produce section, you see many items that are familiar, and many that are not. I love that the ethnic and exotic items here are every day items. In many ways this place is meant to serve American ethnics and fresh food fanatics who actually make "exotic" cuisine every day of the week. What to say about this place? There are so many wonderful ethnic and fresh options from the great selection of German, Mexican, and Polish meats from the producers that are favored by immigrants and ethnics alike, to the crazy huge fresh feta cheese selection. I even spotted some bags of dried soy protein in chicken and beef flavor sitting over in the fruit and veggie section that might make it into my veggie chili this fall. While this place has an abundance of gourmet foods, and mountains of traditional and exotic veggies and fruits, you can also get most everything you would get anywhere else as well, as well as that special Greek olive oil you have been trying to find. As a former Chicago resident, I was already familiar with the Cermak stores in Humboldt Park and Pilsen, but this store is a true flagship on a grand scale yet is organized around the shop's roots in the city green grocer trade. It is BETTER and BIGGER than its Chicago cousins! Go Milwaukee Cermak! Some prices seem high to me for exotic foods, but mainly I'm talking about stuff you can't get in Milwaukee! So paying a little more for chicken Kabanosy sausage from Andy's Deli in Chicago is worth it since with tolls and parking and gas I'd have to buy a lot of Perogi, Sausage, and pickles to make that trip worth it! I saw a lot of good Greek olive oils, and a decent selection of other varieties in cans, but I realy wanted to see Partanna (my Italian buddy Pierpaolo swears it is the best in the world!) but there was no Partanna to be found! I saw a lot of great meats in the deli. They had 3-4 kinds of mortadella, a whole selection of other Italian meats, Boar's head, and German and Austrian sausages from a famed Chicago producer. They have lots of good Hungarian salami! What else? I know I am missing some awesome stuff - all the more reason to go back to this meat-tastic deli. They had a giant olive bar with the real stuff favored by Italians and Greeks (I know - my Greek buddy used to sneak these into the USA in his luggage! shhhh!) which is situated right next to a large imported and artisan cheese section that rivals that at Whole Foods. Buckets of domestic and imported Feta cheese beckon from across the isle as well. As you are checking out there is a little section not to miss. Now, Illy claims to be the best coffee in the world, and if you Google "Andrea Illy" you will find an earful about how his coffee is so good, you are probably not cool enough to drink it! Well, the Illy espresso bar and smoothie stop are a nice touch and the prices are really good (I didn't see a barrista). They also have Mexican food to go. As Christopher H mentioned, there is not much of a "dining" section here so I assume most of the food, smoothies, and Illy coffee items are really meant as "to-go" items. read more

Moved to Milwaukee over the summer and genuinely was very impressed with this place the first couple of times I shopped here but after today I don't think I'll ever return. See below for all the pros and cons... PROS: Initially I was blown away by the selection of ethnic foods/spices. Anything from Hispanic to Indian to Eastern European, they have it all! The produce department is massive and beautiful with many things you cannot find at other grocery stores. They have a Mexican style bakery. The meat counter has seasoned and prepared meats for tacos and other ethnic dishes. They have a cute little selection of wine and even some locally brewed craft beers on hand, which is awesome. CONS: their employees-- okay on this subject I'm a little torn. First bad experience I had was when I unloaded literally my entire cart full of groceries onto a belt and then the cashier reached up, turns off her light and tells me she's closed, rudely as hell. Again, her light was ON the entire time I was putting my entire cart full of groceries on the belt. I had to put Everything back into my cart and get back into another line. That was last time I went shopping but I thought I'd give it another try because we all have bad days and brushed it off as no big deal. Second issue with employees is that you will be hard pressed finding someone who speaks English. And I don't mean mild English or broken English..I mean zero English! If you try asking anyone in that store for help they will literally say "I don't speak English". Which, cool.. I'm not bothered by that at all generally but quite frankly.. then Cermak shouldn't be having them out on the floor working where customers need help. Today myself and another woman were both trying to get help with bakery items. Neither of us received any help..it was only "I don't speak English" over and over again by numerous different people. The other woman (African American) then says "why the hell are y'all out here then?!" I agreed with her but also felt bad because he was a young man of maybe only 18 years old. Cermak-employees should be taught that if they can't help a customer they need to find someone who can. Problem solved. We could only point to what we want but not ask questions for anything. And don't bother asking for help finding something on the floor. Nobody that works there will even remotely acknowledge your existence. Not even the cashiers (who do speak English)..they don't say hello or ask if you found what you needed. They're completely disengaged and aloof the entire time they are checking you out. Cermak Fresh Market - Grocery Near Me - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

I've been dropping by Cermak for several years now since it's fairly close to where I work. The streets can be busy around lunch time but that's not Cermak's fault. The BIG positive is if you like made to order burritos. Their burritos are huge so you'd better be hungry when you order one. They have a little seating area just beyond the cash registers where you can sit and eat if you don't want to take it back to the office. The food is fresh and tasty. The main reason why I keep dropping by is for the wide selection of feta cheese. And it's better priced than most regular grocery stores. That brings me to the less than positive section. At the deli, they have these free samples of meats and cheeses that you can toothpick through. That's great because you could starve to death sometimes waiting for someone to assist you at the deli. I regularly see 5 or 6 people working behind he counter but they're all busy making prepared trays of "stuff" to sell and not focused on the walk-ups waiting for a pound of ham or turkey -- even if everyone takes a number. It's been pretty consistent that the deli counter employees would rather one of their colleagues handle the people than do it directly. Boo. Aside from the FANTASTIC assortment of super fresh product (I think Cermak gets first dibs on produce than any other store in the metro are) they also have my favorite hot sauce, Marie Sharp's making the store a hero in my heart. Alright, so this place is a perfect combination of good, the bad, and the ugly. The Good The produce variety and selection is huge and priced right. The fresh tortillas, chips and bakery are terrific. They have an okay variety of ethnic dry goods. I love the olive bar and cheese selections, The deli is our number one stop and the reason for our trips weekly, as no one can beat their prices on lunch meat and cheese. The Bad The prices on a lot of the dry goods seem high. I'm better off shopping at El Ray or Woodman's for some items. Some deli workers are better than others in cutting the deli meats as desired. You need to check the freshness of the produce before you buy. I don't mind, as the prices are so economical. The Ugly We will not buy from the meat or seafood department. Actually, I can't even stand the smell of the department. I have never been in an grocery store where the meat department smells like rotting flesh. I will continue to come here to shop for my weekday lunch boxes until Pick N Save figures out that $7.00 a lb is too much to charge for lunch meat and cheese. read more

you will not believe the produce prices. I'm talking farmers market prices. they have an extensive selection of ethnic food products at reasonable prices. the meat department stocks products you won't find in your average supermarket, like rabbit and tripe. the deli department is wonderful, such a wide selection of cheese, olives and deli meats. read more
