I used Certified Tree Care in Dallas a few years ago and worked with a young guy named Drew. If I'd left my review then, they would have gotten 4 or 5 starts. It was that experience that led me back to them this summer. I had a large shrub blocking my gas meter, which Atmos had notified me about. I trimmed it back myself once but realized it needed to be fully removed so I left a message for Drew. A few months later, I was contacted by a guy named Jim and was told Drew had left and they were just now getting access to his messages. I'd been periodically trimming the shrub back to keep Atmos at bay, but now I also had a tree getting close to touching a neighbors house, violating HOA rules so I asked Jim to come out. He came out and gave me a quote on the work I asked for and I foolishly, based on 2 good previous experiences, paid them in full. I told him that both my HOA and Atmos wanted me to get this done asap, and he said it wouldn't be more than a week or maybe two. This is what has unfolded since that day: 15 business days later- no scheduling call so I reached out to Jim who said he'd talk to scheduling. 19 business days later - I noticed an additional charge for $99 to my checking account. I contacted Jim who didn't know when I'd be scheduled but said I'd accidently been signed up for something called TreeSurance and he'd get a refund issued. 23 business days later - texted Jim asking about scheduling and the refund of the $99. No reply. 24 business days later - texted Jim asking about scheduling and my refund for the $99. Jim replied and said he'd confirm the refund and contact scheduling again. I received the $99 refund 2 or 3 days later. 30 business days later - I got a text from Jim telling me he'd resigned and that I should call the office for scheduling. 31 business days later - I called the office and was told I'd be scheduled within a week. I explained it needed to happen quickly since my tree was now almost touching my neighbor's house. No call. 37 business days later - I called the office and spoke to Cameron and asked to cancel my order and get a refund. I was told I'd get a call from a manager and then they'd approve the refund. No call. I scheduled another tree service who had a crew to my house in 2 days. 48 business days later - I received a call from someone in their scheduling service asking to schedule a crew. I explained that I'd canceled a few weeks earlier and was waiting on a refund. I was told by that guy that he didn't handle refunds only scheduling and that I should call the office. 50 business days later - I called the office again and spoke to Cameron again. I explained again the situation and was told this time that she'd need to talk to Accounting about a refund and that I'd get a call back since that person was at lunch. No call. 53 business days later - I called the office again and asked to talk with Accounting about my refund. Cameron came back and said she'd talked to "Harly" or maybe "Harlin" in accounting who said I'd have to talk to their GM, Brian. I explained that was what I was told a month ago and that I'd never heard from anybody. I told her this had all started over two and half months ago and it needed to be handled soon. That brings us up to today. No call from their GM as of this writing. In anticipation of legal action, I've kept this log but am hoping they do the right thing and issue me my refund. read more

Zero stars... I am now writing a review concerning my service from last summer. We had some trees that needed trimming due to dead branches. One of the trees seemed to be under major stress. They quoted me over $1000 to trim some Branches. Which I thought was a lot, but I wanted an arborist to care for my trees so I was willing to pay more. On the day of service we decided to hold off on trimming one of the trees. It was for cosmetic reasons. I wanted the main stressed tree to be taken care of. I was told after the trimmers left, that the price was for the one tree and the other tree was just "complimentary." So over $1200 to trim two branches that took maybe 30 min. So I called the sales guy and complained and told him then why didn't they trim the other one if it's was "complimentary???" He gave me $100 off. *eyeroll. We got completely bamboozeled. Now I'm angry because it turns out that our tree is infested with tree beetles. Had the tree been treated last summer, it could have saved the tree. read more

In my haste, I made the mistake of choosing a service without multiple estimates. I hired Certified Tree Care to trim several trees and remove one large tree. After waiting a month for them to start the work, they did do the trimming and removed the tree. They said they would come back the next week to grind the stump down. Three weeks later and several unanswered calls, I received a text stating the stump grinding is an extra charge of $750. I contacted some other tree service companies who were shocked at, not only the price of the tree grinding, but the poor quality of the trimming. The other companies said they include grinding as part of the service. They also said they will grind the tree stump for $280. I would NOT recommend Certified Tree Care. read more

they took my money. told me they would cut my tree down within 30 days. then called them at 30 days and they said it would be 2 more weeks. at 2 weeks they said they would get back to me. then tonight got an auto membership renewal and I never signed up for a membership just signed a paper and wrote a check to cut a tree down!!! this place is a scam!!! read more

Thomas Ahlstrom came out to evaluate my property in Frisco, Tx. His team came this week and did an GREAT job. The trees look great and those pesky "tree rats" for lack of a term are gone, including their homes! I had tried everything short of a b-b gun! Had them remove a small tree in the back yard and trim my two trees in the front. I did have to put 50% down and they said work would be done in about 4 weeks. They didn't take credit cards a red flag to me. Bit I went with them in less than two weeks they came did the work cleaned up and everything looks nice. Don't know about cost I didn't shop around paid $600. No complaints from me. Before leaving they made sure I was happy with the work. read more

Still waiting on the alleged "certification.". For the amount of money this company charges, ie. $1478 for ONE tree (trimming and treatment for bore worms, which you can buy at a plant nursery and do yourself), 50% down and you're put on a future schedule 3 or more weeks out, I expected a written diagnosis, and a maintenance plan devised by a certified arborist, as advertised. No interim communication, and poor or no communication with their main office, so your 50% payment is just gone, and the work is pending completion....no other tree care company operates like this. I've asked for the "certificate" several times, from both Drew, the "consultant" and Ryan, the crew "supervisor." Both got funny looks on their faces, said nobody ever asks for the certificate but they'd get it to me, and to this day, no certificate has been produced. But they advertise ISA certified arborist on staff, and charge an amount of money commensurate with that charged by a tree expert. My 100 year old oak tree had several very large branches removed, and im told by Ryan that he gave it a treatment. Someone on their crew used MY rake to clean up, and left it laying out in my front yard when they left. I had to call them back to trim back the branches touching the power lines, and Drew acted like I was asking for something unreasonable...saying they hadn't wanted to cut anymore large branches off, and that's the only way the crew could get the tree branches cut back from the power lines. I had to explain that trimming 18 inches - 2 feet of terminal branches off the power lines does not require amputating major branches at the trunk of the tree. Certified arborist? On staff? We scheduled the job, and on the appointed day Cody and his crew arrived first thing in the morning and got right to work. The job took one and a half days. They were very thorough, did exactly what we agreed upon and did a great job of cleaning up when they were done. I was very impressed throughout the project. This place is a scam. Always giving out flyers about saving on tree projects. I called and they came out to give an estimate (which was WAY higher than the company I ended up using). They wanted 50% down and said they would come back about 2 months later. No other company ever asked for that much down. I did some digging and found other people had been scammed. I'm shocked people have given 5 star reviews (if the reviews are actually real). I wouldn't trust this company at all. read more

Excellent experience with Certified Tree Care. Professional customer service (which is hard to find these days) from Drew and the on-site supervisors, the appointment was ahead of schedule, the trees looked great after the service, and clean-up was very good also. The cost was very reasonable, after using other services that charged more for less the work. I plan on using Certified Tree Care again in the future. read more

Please, for the love of God, do not do business with the Fort Worth division of this company. They send out mass mailers targeting certain zip codes, then they sit back and "let the game begin"....and a game it is. Shame on us for falling for it (50% up front, checks only, not letting rep. leave without a service apt. scheduled or at least a ballpark on when the work would be performed). Shame on them for putting us through the charade. Mr. Gatiher...you should be ashamed of yourself. We did eventually receive a refund but that was quite an adventure in of itself. read more

We received a flyer in the mail and placed a call. Drew came on March 7 and walked the yard. We explained which trees were our major concern (we have a lot) and he gave us a detailed quote with pictures. Next came the issue of money - the flyer mentioned a $20% discount. The details of the offer were 50% upfront payment and flex scheduling which means you get scheduled in the future when there is a window. We liked the idea of the discount but was hesitant on the 50% upfront payment. After seeing the professional quote and contact information, we decided to pull the trigger. Drew applied the discount, sent a detailed statement via email and gave us an approximate date (the end of April). With so many scams out there, my anxiety started to creep up as the weeks went by. About the time I was going to check in, one bright and shiny April 22nd morning, we received a call saying the crew was on their way. What? No warning? No problem, at least they were coming to do the work. Well sir, they arrived, walked through the plan and got to work. The skill of these guys is amazing. I've cut a few limbs around the property but the way they climbed, cut, extracted and cleaned up the yard was impressive. They did a ton of work in under 2 hours and were on their way. The moral, if you're an anxious sort like me, the wait time from booking to service (7 weeks in our case) might be more than you can take, especially with 50% of money paid (something they say you shouldn't do). And while we never did have to contact them for an update, I'm not sure communications is their specialty (remember, they called us the morning they came out). That said, the service and the efficiency is top-notch. A success and money well spent. Will call them again (especially if there's another discount). read more
