Dr. Mitrut and his staff are simply awesome--and I'll explain why. There are two jobs, not one, as a doctor: there is the literal, clinical knowledge that ideally most doctors possess. But then there's the Emotional Intelligence angle, and many doctors fail there.I recently had an abscess in my tooth and I would not wish it on anyone. Imagine going to bed on a random Tuesday night and waking up Wednesday in utter agony with one side of your jaw swollen out two inches. It's a very scary situation. I've since heard of some people needing the ER. Dr Mitrut and his staff? Every single one of them was fantastic at all phases. Lisa's empathy came through on the first call; the staff, overall, are clearly experienced with emergency situations. And, importantly, Dr. Mitrut took the TIME to explain every stage of the events. That's rare. Too many doctors, in my own personal opinion, rely on their own experience without taking the time to recognize a person is in distress. Dr. Mitrut is an honest, humble, and extremely skillful endodontist. I could not be more grateful for his existence. I had an extreme amount of calcification so a root canal would not work, despite trying twice, so he recommended an apicoectomy. I have a very good experience with Dr. Mitrut. He was right to the point and explained everything. During the procedure he suspected that the tooth can not be saved, so he stopped and recommended a proper course of action in order to make sure it can be saved, otherwise there will be no need to waste money on a tooth that can't be saved. I was happy with everything, the price of the root canal is higher than most but I opted for his service due to the level of expertise he has shown. I had a root canal done over 10 years ago in Florida and unbeknownst to me, the person missed one of the canals and it has been a ticking time bomb of bacteria and infection over the years. I woke up on Wednesday with the most excruciating pain that I have every felt in my life and adding to the panic was the fact that I was supposed to be leaving the country in 3 days. I quickly googled an endodontist and decided to call Dr. Mitrut's office based on his good reviews. I am so happy I did. Lisa, the receptionist, was an angel. I called before they were open and left a voice mail about my emergency and she texted me almost immediately that they were not in the office yet but that she had received my voice mail and that she would call me as soon as they were in. She called me at 9:30AM and I explained the pain I was in and that I was supposed to be leaving the country in 3 days and she squeezed me in for 2:30PM that day. Around 1PM I was in so much pain, I couldn't take it anymore so I called her and asked if I could come in sooner and she told me to head over and that Dr. Mitrut would see me as soon as he finished working on his current patient. When I got in the chair with Dr. Mitrut he looked at my x-ray and could immediately tell that the issue was a missed canal on my 10 years prior procedure. I was stunned. I can't tell you how many dentists I've seen over the years who completely overlooked the missed canal in my x-rays - not ONE of them caught it. The pain I was in could have been completely avoided. Dr. Mitrut advised the best thing to do would be for him to immediately do a root canal procedure on the missed canal. I agreed. I should also note that I had just gotten a new crown on the affected tooth a month prior and he was skilled enough to be able to drill through the crown for the procedure so that I didn't have to get it replaced. When he got inside the tooth he explained that it was a severe infection and he and his assistants (who were also very skilled and wonderful) got to work. After the procedure, he went into more detail about the issue and my post-op care. Lisa, was very helpful guiding me through my pain management care and she called in my antibiotics immediately and they were ready for pick up as soon as I got to the pharmacy. Two days later, on Friday, they opened the office EARLY so that I could come in and Dr. Mitrut could take another look at the tooth to see if I was in OK shape to still leave the country on Saturday. This is the first dental office I have ever been to that feels like they actually care and are listening and that they are in no way in it for the money. They go the extra mile, opening early if need be, and squeezing you in when it's an emergency, to make sure that you are taken care of. The mere fact that Dr. Mitrut is the only dental practitioner in over 10 years to look at my x-rays and see a missed canal is a testament to his skill and precision. Look no further. I don't particularly appreciate going to the dentist, but having an appointment with Dr. Mitrut and his team is different. They are so good, and I felt so relaxed when visiting him that I almost fell asleep during the procedure on my fourth and last visit. I had a problem with a root canal done about four years ago. Dr. Mitrut took care of it. Four visits over a few months, and now the healing process is coming to an end. Each visit, I asked dozens of questions to Dr. Mitrut and his team. They all patiently answered each of one of them. At the end of each visit, I always expected to have an extra bill. It never happened. I am surprised by the negative review on this page, as I had an excellent experience with Dr Mitrut. I had an emergency situation and needed a root canal late in the evening. He and his staff stayed late to do my root canal, which was a very complex procedure with a hard to reach molar. He was patient with me and very careful and meticulous. Root canals are expensive; I had to drop $1500 for the root canal, but do your research - in Manhattan they cost approximately $1800 - $2600, depending on the tooth. After my appointment he called me the next day to see if I was feeling OK, and he gave me advice on how to avoid major painkillers since I didn't want to medicate. I have since recommended him to multiple people, and everyone has had similar positive experiences. If I ever have another problem I will happily go back to him. read more

I was suffering from a bad taste in my mouth from my root canal tooth, so I decided to show it to a new dentist. After X-rays he said I had severe infection and absess, and he adviced me to see a endodontist. I found Dr. Mitrut after a long web search. Since his office is close to where I live, I decided to show my tooth to him. His office is very neat and looks like a NASA lab, full of the latest tech equipment. He explained everything with patience, what I need to do, and the whole process. He was very friendly and professional. After 45 minutes of very hard operations he corrected my root canal, and also removed another nerve which wasn't removed by my ex-dentist. He found it by using special microscope. The process was hard and tiring but I didn't feel any pain. I recommend him to anyone whose has a root canal that needs to be redone. read more

This practice should be ashamed of themselves! I called at 8am to schedule an emergency root canal as I've been in agonizing pain the entire night earlier. They told me to come in at 9am because that's the time they actually open- not as they advertised online. I went in a 9am in tears (painful and also grateful tears as I would finally be pain-free) I filled out the form required and the front desk secretary told me it would cost between 1550-1850!!! I told her this was not anywhere near the going rate of a regular root canal (I was expecting to pay between 600-1200) she said that he was a specialist and if I wanted to discuss price I would have to PAY $250 for a consultation. I've had enough root canals to know what's appropriate and this place is trying to make extra money off of people's pain and desperation. Pathetic! I recently returned to Dr. Mitrut, after 5 years, to have another root canal. My reason for coming back to Dr. Mitrut again, is that he made me feel at ease about the procedure, by explaining exactly what is involved, and this in turn made me feel much more relaxed, and confident to be in his care. He was very gentle, and always concerned about making me feel as comfortable as possible during the procedure. Dr. Mitrut's staff was always very courteous, as they were very punctual about confirming my appointment times with me, and they even called to see how I was feeling after each procedure. Who knew having a root canal done could be a pleasant experience? I was promptly seen by Dr Mitrut the day after I called his office for an appointment. Originally, it was scheduled for a week later, then the receptionist called back to inform me that they will squeeze me in the next morning because I was in so much pain. My tooth wasn't responding to the root canal treatment my dentist performed. After his second attempt my dentist finally referred me to Dr Mitrut. I'm convinced Dr. Mitrut is one of the last greatest endodontists in NY. I wish he can be my general dentist! Not only are your phone calls forwarded to his cell on weekends, but he answers you within 5 minutes. I called him on a Saturday after 10 days of excruciating pain explaining my tooth problem and he was able to see me Monday morning. We started my root canal treatment and my pain immediately subsided. I was extremely nervous because it was my first RTC, but he made me feel so comfortable and answered every question of mine, no matter what time of day it was. I'm sure RTCs don't really require bedside manner, but he was very patient with me. I am so thankful for that. He's smart and explains things in a way non-docs are able to understand.
