Let me start by saying all of a sudden I started to get the most excruciating pain from almost all corners of my mouth. And of course the worst possible time to get dental paid is during the covid-19 crisis as (mostly) everything was shutdown. Ximena, at the front desk, who answered my call initially wanted to make sure it was a dental emergency as the office was open only for emergencies during covid times. Once determined it was an emergency they made time for me the next day. Office was super clean, they even took my temperature to make sure I didn't have a fever. After going to a different dentist further towards the park on Ditmars for a few years, I decided to give this dentist a try based on the recommendation of a friend. I can't say enough good things! I never have a long wait in the waiting room, which is such a nice way to start the experience. Dr. G was friendly, informative, and I didn't feel like I was being rushed out of the office. I was there today for scaling and root planing and Georgia was absolutely wonderful. She was friendly, professional, and had a nice calm energy. I had a great experience from the time I made the appointment to the time I left. The receptionist was so lovely and helpful. The space is very clean and organized. The day of my appointment I had a an issue with my insurance and the receptionist was very patient and helpful. They were extremely considerate of my time constraint and apologized when the previous appointment ran over a few minutes. The women who gave me a cleaning was also lovely (I think her name was Marie) and did a great job. It's been a long time that I felt I received a real cleaning. Most places do the bare minimum and rush you out! The dentist was also very professional and pleasant. I did not have any major work done but I'm already impressed with this office. Never stepping foot in this place again.. I believe in good oral hygiene, I get my teeth cleaned on a regular basis! Instead of going to my regular dentist, I decided to give this spot a shot, since they were right up da block from me. "What A Nightmare" I must of walked in during there lunch break, because the office reeked of every type of food! Ewwww & eww I waited about 15 minutes to get my cleaning. This was the most painful & uncomfortable cleaning, I have ever received. The worst part is that she did a SHI*TY job! I am keeping it real.. I have been a patient of Dr. George Gatzonis and Ed Demirdjan for the last five years. I have had extensive implant surgeries. All of which has been more than successful. So now, at 70, I have a lot to smile about. In my five years at Dr. Gatzonis' office, I have truly witnessed many acts of kindness to not only me, but especially to the elderly. Dr. Gatzonis takes a lot of time explaining what can be done, and he works very hard at piecing together their bridges to save them a lot of money. The office is a happy place. All of his workers are not only competent, but extremely good people. Who will go above and beyond to help each patient. What can I say? It's always a pleasure to go to the dentist, no matter what I have done. Really nice office crew but the dentist is very rushed, does not explain anything. Also, quoted me $1,000 more than other dentists in the area. Please call your insurance and check the rates of the codes they give you because they are contracted with the insurance and have set rates. I called 2 other dentists on Steinway around the corner and both gave me $1,000 less than this office. read more

This place runs on time, has friendly staff and is very clean. The place has its act together, which is all I ask for in a dental place. I want to make an appointment. Show up on time. Be seen on time. The head dentist is nice and has never tried to convince me (like other dentists) to whiten, or fix a tiny chip that would cost A LOT and is not a big deal to me, or do any other unnecessary things not covered by my plan. I am faced with a congenital condition called Amelogenesis imperfecta. Essentially I have NOT had teeth my entire life, I am 35 years old, besides b.s. bonding and porcelain veneers that had allowed me to "just get by". Dr. George and Dr. Demirdjan, along with their AMAZING staff of everyone employed, has allowed me to lead a functional existence. Cutting up a piece of steak and eating on the right side of my mouth is actually a consideration to me nowadays =) Literally, I now have 6 implants within a 6 month period that have healed to perfection. One of the only reasons I fell apon Dr. Gatzonis name is because my current dentist was shutting their practice down. Visit was fine, doctors were nice, but billing is horrible. I received a notice for service provided 2 YEARS ago saying I didn't pay my co-pay, which I know I paid at the time of my visit. I've never been to a doctor's office that doesn't take the co-pay at the time of visit. After a lengthy conversation with the office manager, she asked me for a receipt to show proof. One of the first things she mentions within our conversation is that their "recording system sucks"...her exact words. Where am I going to find a receipt from 2 years ago??...it's not my fault your system sucks. So now, I have to pay it again or they'll send to collections. My suggestion, DO NOT GO to this office if you don't want to get ripped off. read more

When Dr Gatzonis showed up he hadn't bothered to check his schedule and I had to explain to him what the appointment was for and which tooth needed the filling. He obviously would rather have been done for the day and seemed huffy that I was there at all. Then he rushed through the job, acting like it was a big challenge for him. This was by far the worst dental experience I have ever had. After chipping the bonding off of my front tooth, I desperately searched for a dentist to fix my not-so-flattering hillbilly-esque look. After a frantic google search I found Ditmars Family Dental (supposedly the best in Astoria), called right away, and set up an appointment. To start, it took the dentist 45 minutes to get into the room. In any other situation I would have excused the tardiness. However, after the dentist finally got there, she couldn't even identify which tooth had chipped (literally a third of my front tooth had cracked off and she couldn't identify it). After informing her of which tooth had been messed up she speedily jumped into "repairing" my tooth without any sort of obvious evaluation or questions. Throughout the process I was in extreme pain and on the verge of tears and yet she kept reassuring me that "I shouldn't be feeling anything" because she "wasn't touching my actual tooth." The last time I checked when a patient that "Shouldn't be feeling anything" is gasping and tearing up with pain it's usually a pretty clear sign something isn't going right and that you should probably take a step back and reevaluate the situation! But no reevaluations occurred. As to the question of whether she touched my actual tooth or not; not only did she touch my tooth, she scraped the enamel in its entirety from the back of my tooth leaving me with incredible sensitivity lasting for weeks. In addition, in the process of reshaping my tooth, she scraped off the bottom of my actual tooth leaving it much shorter than the other as well and much wider. So, basically, I walked out of the office looking only fractionally better and in and in exponentially more pain than when I walked in. When I went home a month later (with almost the sole purpose of seeing my regular dentist) he was absolutely appalled by how the dentist here butchered my tooth. Luckily, 2.5 hours and $306 later he had helped most of the sensitivity and fixed the shape and sizes of my teeth. Honestly, I might understand if the dentist had done an impeccable job procedurally and screwed up the shape of my teeth, and I might even understand if she had procedurally gotten it all wrong and left my teeth flawlessly symmetrical; but to completely flop both procedurally and aesthetically is completely unacceptable. It is safe to say I will NEVER go back to Ditmars Family Dental no matter how desperate I am. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Gatzonis for at least 20 years. He has always been thorough, kind and great about explaining what to expect with all procedures. And everything he's done has been first rate. He sure improved my smile. May I also mention that he is very gentle with that first shot of painkiller when working on my mouth. They cancel appointments at the last minute and take their friends before others with scheduled appointments. You expect to wait at the doctor or dentist but this place is ridiculous. Don't use this dentist unless you have time to waste. Try Astorai Dental Arts instead. read more
