At that point the person with whom I was speaking stopped me, claiming that Medicare would only pay for a dietitian if there were a pre existing condition such as diabetes -- anything else is strictly self pay. Afterwards, I contacted my Medicare advantage carrier and found out this response was completely inaccurate, that there are no prerequisites for being seen by a dietitian. It is my understanding that the carrier reached out to the clinic to clarify, but did not receive a reply to several voice mail messages. Not sure whether Medicare or the disability caused this misinformation to be communicated, but my trust was lost immediately.
