My family member had to go here for an emergency surgery due to a work incident. The emergency contact was my fiancé and I however, with the nurses violating HIPAA violation and speaking to relatives on the phone that didn't have authorization to know information. Then to arrive at 2:30 PM and walking past the Desk and hearing from the nurses that they are going to ignore this patient in this room he's asking to speak to a manager or his doctor due to getting mixed information from different nurses for 2 hours prior. He was not on a restricted diet. He ask for water, ginger ale for an hour and they didn't want to give it to him until I mentioned were is his fluid he asked for if he's not on a restricted diet or fluid. The same nurse who said she will ignore this patient is the same nurse that said I forgot. Dinner came and kitchen closed no one offered a meal to him to select. read more

I unfortunately had to go to the emergency room with a new health issue. They wanted to admit me to the hospital but there were no rooms at the time. They let me stay in the emergency room in a private room until my room upstairs was ready. They gave me the choice of going to another hospital via ambulance but I decided to stay put. I spent three evenings there as a patient. I would like to say that the staff is especially nice at this hospital. At time of arrival at the emergency room they rushed me right in with no wait because of my symptoms. Everyone in the emergency room did their job exactly how you would expect or actually better than you would expect. The service and attention that I received while in my room on the third floor was exceptional. I believe everyone there from the three different nurses that I had my doctor and even the food preparation people that came in and asked me what I would like to eat were all amazing!! I would say if you need to be at a local hospital that I would highly recommend this hospital. Once again I am 100% satisfied with the attention and care that was given to me while admitted to the hospital. read more

The staff abuses disabled patients and they just don't care. I have a photo of scratches on my husbands shoulder and neck. When a complaint is filed they just brush it under the rug. I had to supply my husbands medication and with staff went over dosage and of course they overmedicate because no one knows what they are doing. SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN!! read more

The absolute worst emergency room experience, I took my mother in for chest pressure they said she had acid reflux gave her Mucinex, I refused to accept that, so we went straight to Mel's Wakefield hospital they did a complete cardiology exam blood work, she was taking a heart attack it went undiagnosed it went disguised as heartburn they did absolutely nothing they did not check her heart they did not take any tests I am appalled I am taking this much further with their review board nurses were rude arrogant and too busy talking eating and laughing could not find a doctor for 2 hours there is just way too much more for me to say let's just say I have never been more angry in my entire life my mom is doing great after spending 5 days in Melrose Wakefield hospital they were amazing that is my first choice in the future stay away from the old wooden hospital in Everett read more

this is the worst hospital I've ever been too the staff is very rude. I'm in and out this hospital every week due to severe panic attacks. I asked them if they had psych or anyone that could come down and talk to me they told me the only way someone would come down and talk to me is if I was suicidal. I also was here a week ago and I overheard nurses laughing and making fun of me because of how much I am in the hospital. I had to attend this hospital after an intense bout of drug abuse resulted in serious abdominal and digestive complications. A team of around 8-12 members from nurses to doctors and ambulance team members helped me to recover over a period of 4 or more hours. They were incredibly non-judgmental, kind and took great care to make sure nothing about my health went unnoticed. I especially want to give a shout-out to the MRI administrator who gave me extra blankets when I was freezing and the doctor who made sure to follow up with me about substance abuse resources. very happy with how quick and very nice the people were in the emergency room. However, I hope you don't get a room onthe 3 rd floor, morning shift. I sincerely hope no one has to experience what i did on a lazy sunday morning. seems they were bored and they like to pull pranks on patients that are having extreme issues with mental care right now. what these childish nurses did only embarrassed themselves! all they demonstrated is how unprofessional they can be. being vindictive and uncaring in a profession that, they chose, to demonstrate behavior the exact opposite of the profession they chose, is simply reprehensible. read more

I am quite skeptical on a lot of the one star reviews here, but anyway... My 3xperience with CHA is more like a 3 Star rating. It's not one of the Top Hospitals known, however, they seem to do a reasonably good job. I will admit that some of the Dr's. and nurses, (one nurse in particular), are less than happy, if you happen to be a repeating patient there. read more

I had an incarcerated hernia and arrived at Everett Hospital by ambulance. EVERY CHA team member treated me with kindness, empathy, and respect. Once it was determined that my condition required immediate attention. They wasted no time getting me prepped and into surgery. I feel like the major difference in this hospital and others that I have encountered is that this team says "yes" first. Then they figure out how to make whatever it is happen. AND they operate very much as a team. Whereas other facilities have a kind of "no" mentality. "We cannot do that" or "that's not my job" attitude. Every employee with whom I had the pleasure of interacting seemed happy, secure, and empowered. Several told me of their tenure, which was 15, 20, even 30+ years! Wow! I don't know if the other CHA facilities run in a similar fashion. If so, they need to figure out their secret. Then bottle it and sell it. If I ever have to go into the hospital again, CHA Everett will definitely be the one. Thank you to all of you fine healthcare professionals for the EXCELLENT and compassionate care! I took my elderly mom to the whidden and we were seen within 10 minutes, very professional and thorough. They did a lot of testing luckily it was just dehydration from the hot weather. Compared to mgh waiting room the whidden is the way to go very impressive read more

I had to go here two nights ago. It was 3 AM, I'd worked that night with a mild runny nose and when I came home my sinus was hurting me. I tried to sleep, the whole right side of my face started throbbing. Btw I don't have a low pain threshold, I have tattoos, I did laser hair removal just today. Yet when I took myself here in the dead of night barely able to talk, wearing two sweatshirts. Face pounding. The immediate doctor wanted to send me out with script for Sudafed. I didn't show a temperature yet, well it happened so quick and I don't show a fever that easily. If I drag myself somewhere at 3 AM I AM IN PAIN. You can hear it in my voice the way I tell you. So far this place has let me down two times already. I've realized now I have major sinus issues. Would have been amazing if the place I pay to see me discussed this with me. Forgive me they gave me five days of antibiotics and I've been sucking on popsicles so my gums on my right side don't feel terrible. They can't be bothered. read more

My experience was great from entering emergency room to staying over for I was treated kindly ,, by everyone from doctors to nurses !! The room was clean and was asked I'd needed anything If I wasn't sick I think I could get use to being waited on lol no one really wants to go to a hospital only if they need to !' But their is only a few things that you expect not to be up to par the tv was small so 60's but so what I slept !! And the food it was ok not gross but for hospital food ok you know how that's going to go ! So order fruit, cereal, tea soup their better !! But very thankful that they took time and I felt better You guys have a really hard job ! Absolutely the worst hospital I have ever went to in all my 48 yrs of living. Very Unprofessional! Took my mom to the Whidden in Everett Ma. this morning at 8:30 am for a fall a back injury,...now @ 2pm my mom was still there and she was in so much pain, I had to leave her there as I had to go back to work and like I said at 2 pm she's been calling me telling me how much pain she's in and she can't take the pain anymore and all the while they had only given her Tylenol and a shot of tramadol which is just a stronger I.B like come on my mom is 70 and in a lot of pain and here it is 2pm she's been there over 6 hrs already in so much pain and all the whole she's had Tylenol? So now I leave work to go be with her and we're still waiting I'm just heated at this point. So finally, they come back to the room and tell us she had a broken L2 ok after her one test in almost 7 hrs and now we're told this and you still have yet to give her any pain meds besides administering only Tylenol and a shot of Tramadol and it isn't even helping her and now you know she has a broken L2 and you're still not going to give her any pain meds are you kidding me? I am so upset to have to sit there and watch my mom whos 70 yrs old in that much pain and this hospital isn't doing anything to help her has me Irate. I loathe this hospital their incompetence has me so angry to see her in that much pain and you're not giving her anything to help her feel more comfortable, I'm in tears and so overwhelmed with aggravation because of these workers not doing their job and helping her to feel any better. My father was admitted to Whidden Hospital for a week and I couldn't say enough good things about it. He was seen in ED initially and then admitted to 1st floor inpatient. I can't say enough about the caring nature of the staff and how communicative they were with me. Again, from the ED nursing and admitting physicians to the inpatient floor nursing, attending physician and particularly PA Justin, were all outstanding. If you want to come to this hospital to die; then this is the place for you. My boyfriend was violently sick, and I was afraid we wouldn't be able to make it to Boston, so I took him here. This was my first mistake. He was shaking uncontrollably, could barely stand, he was slurring his words and not making sense, very sick. They took us into a room about 10 mins after arriving. Nurse made him list everything that was going on. She made someone come in and draw blood, they forgot to take the band off the arm and we (me and my boyfriend) did not notice for 2 hours because he was so sick I was just trying to keep him calm. A PA came in about 30 mins later; said she was going to give him lots of medicine to help with the sickness and heartburn. No one came. I pushed the call light, 4 different sides and doctors walked by and ignored it. I finally I went to the front desk, they said he couldn't drink anything and the nurse was busy but she would send her in. The doctor came in to chat, asked how the medicine was working. I told him the medicine was never given and it was really needed. He said he believed my boyfriend was getting sick because he was getting old (only 33!!!) and that when you get older sicknesses take longer to recover. Like this was some kind of joke, my boyfriend and I were scared of what was going on, he was so sick and no on wanted to help him. Doctor said he would talk to the nurse. The PA came back an hour later to check on him and see how the medicine was going. I told her no one ever came with the medicine..... she said she would find the nurse because he was already supposed to have it. During this time my boyfriend would doze off for 1-3 mins at a time because his body was so exhausted from fighting whatever was going on. His breathing would get down to 86/87 and the monitors would go off but no one ever came to check on him. Finally the nurse showed up. Gave him all his meds, hung an IV, and did a blood pressure check.. and asked if my boyfriend needed anything else. He said he would like some juice, she said she would be right back... she never came back. The blood pressure cuff started going off by itself and was literally squeezing my boyfriend's arm so hard it was hurting him. He ripped the cuff off, and he was still inflating!!!!! I disconnected it completely and it didn't deflate. Finally it was getting to the 3 hour mark and we were getting nowhere. We wanted to leave. The nurse asked why, he said he was feeling better, which he was a bit but we weren't getting any help at this place so we wanted to go. Nurse said she had to talk to the doctor and they would write scripts for meds in case he wasn't feeling well later on. She came back no scripts just told us to leave. Asked to do a blood pressure check, and did it on his arm with the IV! Well guess what, for you medical folks, you know this is something you don't do.... blood was EVERYWHERE! Nurse said it wasn't a big deal. It was all down his arm, went right through the Johnny and onto the bedsheets. We got out of there as soon as we could. We will never go back. 0 starts should be an option!!!!!!! It would only let me select 1 as the lowest choice. It won't let me post this review without picking a 1. read more

I had the delightful experience of going with my horribly ill brother to the ER here two nights in a row. The first night we were told a diagnosis, he was given meds, and we were sent home. After five hours of waiting. The following day, (tonight,) the meds are doing next to nothing and he can't properly hydrate with recurring vomiting, so we're back to ask for fluids and results of confirmatory tests done the previous visit. This time it's a 100% contradictory diagnosis! They saw him trying to sip water and refused to give fluids. They got his information wrong in the computer on their end, so he had to spend an extra hour bugging them to fix it so he could avoid needing to wait multiple business days for someone at their medical records department to fix their basic mistake! Who knows what deteriorated state he would have been in by then. They love sending people to primary (closed and/or booked beyond reason) instead of trying to help here. Nice fat-shaming going on too! (There was a nice and informative nurse with a pronouns pin on her lanyard who finally helped us understand the jargon the doctor refused to explain at all!) read more

It's funny to be reviewing a hospital. But I wanted to share that my experience here was very impressive. Like an idiot, I reached into a drawer and sliced my finger on a mandolin who's blade had come unlocked. I knew it was bad the second it happened so off to the ER we went. The gentleman at the front desk was quiet, but friendly, and took my info right away. We were only seated for about 5 minutes when my name was called and we went back to the room. About 5 minutes after that, someone came in and took my blood pressure. About 5 minutes after that someone else came in and had me fill in paperwork. Another 10 minutes went by and the PA looked at my finger, told me to hold it under water for another 5 minutes and she would be back to stitch it up. Like clockwork, there she was. The finger got stitched up, my discharge papers were provided, and out the door I went. The whole process took about an hour. We all have ER horror stories where we've sat there for 3 hours just to see someone, and it seems as if nobody cared if you lived or died. This was definitely not the case at Whidden. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and even joked about my accident which made me feel very comfortable about the whole thing. Although my issue was minor, I felt very confident the staff knew what they were doing and had my best interest in mind. I'm glad this is my closest hospital because if I ever need to go there again, I know that I'm in good hands. read more

If it is at all possible to go to another hospital-go there instead. Having been to the Whidden on many occasions, I can say that my last bad trip was not an isolated incident. Last time I was there it took 3 hours to see a doctor which was quick for the Whidden. I was there for a shoulder injury after three hours and 45 minutes the doctor came in, touched my shoulder, said "We need an X-Ray", and that was the last I heard from her. I then saw her eating a sub and a polishing off a bag of pretzels. She paid more attention to the pretzels than to me. The nurse who gave me my discharge papers was unable to answer any questions. One of these questions included "What is wrong with me?". On two separate occasions they X-rayed the wrong side of my body and I had to (obviously) get re-x-rayed. Screw the Whidden. read more

Our first visit to a hospital in MA started with an ambulance ride to the Whidden ER. It was 11pm on a Tuesday night. My friend was immediately put into a room. The staff was reasonably attentive given how busy they were, and tests went super fast- she was out of the room only 9 minutes for a CT scan! The staff was sensitive to a very complex case, and respected my friend when she told them certain things need to be done a certain way for safety and success-of-procedure reasons; this is not always the case so we were very relieved. This hospital is latex-free, which also made us feel very safe. This was a scary night that turned out as well as possible. We felt like we were in very good hands and that the medical team worked with us and included us. If you have the choice, this is a good place to go. read more

This was my first time to this hospital. I had a great experience here. The ED parking lot is a little small but there is a garage. The hospital looks nice outside where there are flowers and shrubs. When I went inside I was greeted by a young guy. I was looking for a nurse but the guy at the desk took some information and took me back. I didn't wait very long to be seen. The doctors were great and the nurses were ok. I liked getting in and out quickly. I found it to be a dated building on the outside but the cleanest place I've seen in a long time on the inside. I'd go back again if I needed the ER. I remember what this place was like as a kid. Big difference over the years. read more

I was sent there yesterday by Chelsea Urgent Care BIDM as they have no such cat scan equipment there. I arrived for my Cat Scan at 2:20 and directed to the Imaging Center to get my cat scan with contrast for my lower abdomen. I was called in by a young man, a technician I believe who said he was there by himself and that he would preform the procedure. He needed to put in an IV for the contrast and looked at my right arm, no good veins so he attempted to insert the needle into my radial artery and moving it around and it hurt me so much I screamed out, as he stated" this vein is blowing up right in my face" He then stated in a threatening tone" we need to get something straight" he was very aggressive and scolded me for screaming out in pain and while he mopped off my right hand and wrist from blood seeping out, he kept saying" I only will stick you one more time and if you behave this way again, that's it, I will not do it a third time. This goes on and on and I wanted people to be aware as 1) This young man should never have been all alone with me in this scan booth and area .2) I needed someone to come to my rescue, I was humiliated and brow beaten by this inefficient (boy) I am in the process of finding his name as well as addressing Everett hospital, Whidden in a major complaint or if I need to a lawsuit. No one deserves to be treated so inhumanly . If I could include photos my wrist and arm are so very bruised. read more

Alright, so heres the picture: I am 17, working with my dad as a garbageman. I sweat bullets for 8 hours in the extreme heat, to the point where I get severely dehydrated and succumb to heat stroke. No fun. The ambulance driver took me to this hospital, and this simple decision changed my life. They pump me so full of drugs and other shit, that I power puked. I mean, POWER PUKED. like a fire hose going full blast. As I was throwing up, I remember thinking to myself, "Wow, if I wasnt dying, I would actually be impressed by how much im throwing up." Yet, no nurse thought to actually get a bucket to throw up in until I was done. So after I finished puking, I was literally dripping with vomit, and a nurse shoves a bucket in my face, as if it would help. Thanks lady, but you should have done that 5 minutes ago when I first started. After this exchange, I had a seizure, and all the nurses went batshit crazy, not knowing what to do. So in response, they pump me even more full of drugs. The seizure stopped, but at this point my memory gets hazy. Last thing I remember was a doctor asking me who the president was (This happened back in 2004. Bush, i got it right), and what party I was affiliated with. I responded democrat. He said "Oh thats too bad, republicans the way to go." Good thing it was at that point where I slipped into the coma, or there would have been a dead doctor featured on 7 news. Long story short, in the middle of my coma they shipped me to Mass General, where i woke up 3 days later. It turns out that the people at Whidden injected me with the 2 drugs im allergic to, to the point where my body just shut down. Thanks guys. I hope that particular ambulance driver knows that theres a grown man living in Melrose who howls for his blood. Seriously, I would take my chances at the morgue. read more

When do doctors stop caring about patients? Why does the hospital staff lie so much? My first issue was early October. I was sent to the Whidden to have a radiology screening. I get there check in (which that was a nightmare!) They put a bracelet on me and bring me into another waiting room. I was told to pick up the phone in the waiting room for an escort. The lady said someone will be down in awhile. It's a ghost town, and hardly any staff walking by. Finally I asked a walking nurse if this was normal. She took my bracelet made calls, and come to find out the staff went home for the day. They lied and said they cancelled my appointment and rescheduled. Not true, because I still have the voicemail giving me details on checking in! Plus the hospital staff already checked me in. She said I can wait here till 7am, come back tomorrow, or go to Cambridge to see if they can take me. They will not return my call! They just keep scheduling appointments! Two weeks later I was on Vacation in Disney and I injured my whole right arm and rotator cuff, so I checked myself in the ER twice in Orlando. They were the kindest staff I have ever met! They realized I was in agony pain (Who goes to the ER in Disney two nights in a row!) I follow through with everything that I was told. I get back to Boston, and the pain was getting unbearable again. I actually check myself in ER twice, both times the staff was rude! It's night 2 that I had the biggest issue! I get to the ER, and security told me to pick up the phone and call for an escort. She said she will be there in a minute. I'm in throbbing pain and crying! The security guard had enough and shut his window. I finally get up and call again!!!! They called me a liar, they said they came for me and I was outside smoking! BS! I don't smoke, and number 2 the pain was so unbearable for me to move! when the nurse came she called me a liar! I said ask the security guard! She said I was wasting her time. We argued all the way in. I said "get away from me you are not treating me!" From there on it was hell! They just left in the room in pain! I overheard the doctor her talking. I heard the doctor say I'm not putting up with his shit, and walked in! Why are you here again! I told him I can't sleep, and the arm pain is unbearable! There's nothing I can do, but give you a sling. Doesn't even x-ray, ask me my pain level, or show any compassion! When they told me to get dressed, the nurse was laughing at me on the way out! They acted worse than a bully on the playground. Once again Whidden doesn't return a phone call! read more

One morning I had intense abdominal pain, my primary md couldnt fit me in so I ended up having to go to the whidden ER. With in one hour of walking in the door, I was evaluated by a nurse, had a IV placed, blood drawn, seen by the MD, given pain and nausea meds, and away to cat scan for a abdominal CT. This is amazing, most people spend that time waiting to be seen ( if not longer). The staff were caring and truely worked hard to get me feeling better. Hopefully I wont need to . . . but I would use this ER again. read more

Update: 4 months later I have permanent ringing in my left ear 24 hrs a day. Been told that if I had been treated appropriately this would not have happened. Steer clear of this hospital. I'm going to break this review into two parts. If I could give 0 stars for the nurse in the ER I would. After spending over a week not being able to hear (100% deaf) in one ear, and then coming down with a headache and neck ache on the same side I decided to go to the ER. I was told by the nurse "In the future, these are the type of things better handled at your general practitioner instead of relying on an ER for routine care". Who the he'll is she? I have insurance, I am paying! I'm not a person with no insurance and no way of paying a hospital bill relying on an ER. This woman was beyond rude and I will never go back here. That being said, the physician assistant I saw was on the opposite side of the spectrum. She answered many questions, and was far more thorough than a previous doctor I had seen at MGH. Was put on prednisone and 36 hours later I'm hearing again. Unfortunately the RN will be what I remember. read more
