He "consulted" with me by literally not looking in my mouth and uttering 2 sentences. Then he seemed angry that I didn't consent to have my tooth extracted during that "consultation." It's been several years now, and I still have the tooth. It didn't need to be extracted. Take from that what you will.

Then weird things started happening. I got billed for work that wasn't performed, they tried to charge me for x-rays clearly covered by my insurance, doubled-down and said I owed them money when I insisted it was covered, and then claimed "they deal with so many insurance plans they can't keep all of them straight" when I finally pulled up the plan myself and showed them. My parents got hit with "lab fees" that their insurance company said should have never been charged under their contract with the dentist. Lots of other "billing errors" that. Once is a mistake, but something was off basically every visit. Oh! And you get a "billing fee" every time their office screws up, which is fun. If I were a conspiracist, I might say that the office is struggling and they're trying to sneak in extras that patients are unlikely to notice. However, it can also be explained by a few bad hiring choices for office administrators. When I left the practice, I called to get a copy of my x-rays for the new dentist. The office assistant sent a collection of THUMBNAILS of the x-rays. Like, tiny grainy pictures for the new dentist. They got angry and insisted that they couldn't get me any other format, and that the files were just really small when exported and that they had never had an issue with it before. After some heated back and forth, the office assistant described the menu she was seeing in the software, I suggested things she could try to export them, she finally exported the images individually as high-resolution jpgs and sent them to me. I found a dentist that took mass health. So I set up the appointment. Luckily, they could get me in right away as I told him I was having some tooth pain. I saw a doctor Mo. Very personable. I'll be at it seemed like the office was really busy and kind of rushed, but I'm OK with that if the Services are great. It means people like them. He examined me for a bit, didn't even take an x-ray, and told me that"tooth number 28 needed a crown! He explained to me that I must've had a root canal done, but there was no crown there. I've listened to him, but couldn't imagine that I had ever had a root canal done and never had a crown put on. My teeth are not great, so doing something like that is against anything I would ever have done in the past. So I set up an appointment for the next week for the crown. On the way home, I called my regular dentist and explained what it happened and asked them if I had ever had a crown on that tooth that might've fallen off. My memory isn't the greatest sometimes, maybe I just never came back or something. My former dentist told me to come right in and they would take a look at my mouth. When taking a look at my mouth, I was informed that I did have a crown on tooth number 28. And I'll be at a new style crown, there was one there so he didn't understand why Dr. Mo was saying there was no crown there. I called back SNY dental, and informed them of what I had found out. The girl on the phone couldn't have been less enthusiastic when I informed her that indeed I did have a crown on the tooth that the doctor wanted to put a crown on, then it wouldn't be continuing with their services because of the fact he couldn't even realize that it was a crown and not my own(of course this is saying some wonders for my former dentist as if he could do a crown that nobody recognized was a crown. I guess that's really good right?!) I found out after the fact as well that SNY dental build mass health for a different tooth. Not even when they looked at, and not even one that they saw had problems with it. When I called them back to let them know that they had processed the wrong tooth. They didn't care. So I had to call mass health to tell them that the dentist office put in for Services. They didn't provide. Stay away from this place. The fact that this dentist couldn't recognize a crown and wanted me to have $2400 worth of services done without even taking any x-rays or anything? Frightening.

I can tell he has a 'patient first' mentality and is very honest in his assessment. He won't advise you treatments (especially costly ones) unless he feels you truly need it. I've had my fair share of dentists in three different states (NYC, GA, NC) but Dr. Schweier by far is the best. I can say this because (1) right before Labor Day, I woke up with severe tooth ache. I had no idea why. The clinic was able to see me that same day and Dr Schweier was able to quickly pinpoint the root cause after a thorough examination -- it turned out my tooth nerve had died and I needed a root canal. He had a strong sense of urgency and really wanted to make sure this gets addressed ASAP as more severe things can happen if the root canal treatment gets postponed. Keep in mind root canal is not a short process and I was nervous about going back home with a tooth ache and things getting worse. Even though he had a tight schedule, he was gracious enough to move things around and treated me right away! If he hadn't done that, my Labor Day weekend would've been miserable with the severe front tooth ache and I would be worried about infection. I really appreciate his sense of urgency and care for me! (2) I dread any form of cavity drilling and mentioned this to Dr. Schweier. In my experience, anesthesia never eliminated the pain and that nerve pinching discomfort from drilling. But today during my visit, Dr. Schweier and his assistant Joice were super gentle and made the drilling and cavity filling absolutely painless!!! To my surprise, this is a first for me! He joked he'll increase the anesthesia dosage but I'm sure his skilled techniques played a big role. He and Joice really make a great team and he treats his staff with respect which is great. (3)receptionists and assistants are very professional and nice. I also got my teeth cleaned here by the hygienist - she's very thorough and takes her time. They checked the proposed treatment with my insurance and a week later told me how much will cost. The surprise was to learn that the endodontist who saw me originally left the group and there will be another doctor doing the root canal. It was also weird that it was my decision to do the root canal or not - so far I do not experience any pain or infection despite the fact that the pulp seems to be exposed. They do not perform PFM crowns, only all ceramic . Was surprised to learn that the crown price is the same no matter what material will be used - ceramic or zirconia. Overal a good experience but now I wonder if I should ask another doctor for a second opinion: do I need a root canal or not?
