The dental hygienist Adam was not. He did not stop drilling when I told him he was hurting me and he ended the appointment by telling me I had "poor dental hygiene". Ouch on both fronts. Pre-cleaning I had some insurance struggles and the receptionist was very helpful and pleasant. The waiting room is small but clean. The cleaning itself was pretty uncomfortable. I kept getting sprayed in the face. Adam did wipe my face with a napkin at some point but I was damp for most of the cleaning. They provided safety glasses to protect my eyes from the spray but those were dirty from a previous patient. The X-ray was difficult because I have a small mouth but the tech was sweet and did her best. I was offered the option of having a doctor do my cleaning next time but honestly I will probably cancel my follow-up and find a new dentist. I would not recommend Boston Smiles to a friend.

After a slew of X-rays and scans, the Dr. came in with 0 introduction, looked at my teeth for 5 mins and proceeded to tell me I had a plethora of issues (which I've never had before). She told me I had "a handful" of cavities.. what doctor describes anything to a patient as "a handful" and doesn't give specifics? She also said I needed two crowns and had gum issues. I have never had issues like this before in my life so for someone to pop in for five mins with no further explanation and then leave was upsetting. The hygienist then told me that I needed a "deep cleaning" which would require two visits and for them to numb each side of my mouth. They actually refused to give me a regular cleaning. A front desk person came into the room with a packet of info about the cleaning and sat there and stared as she told me to sign - super awkward and made it uncomfortable to read through the info/costs. Finally after TWO HOURS I left with only HALF my mouth numbed and cleaned. I had to then come back at a later date for the second half of the cleaning. During both visits I asked for receipts to be emailed to me - I didn't get it either time. I followed up afterward and got one of the two receipts. I also had to email them five times to get copies of my X-rays. Oddly no one EVER followed up about making an appt for the so called cavities or crowns. If I had such issues, wouldn't it be imperative that I make an appt right away? The front desk only insisted that I make an appt in three months for my next deep cleaning. When I told her I'd check my a schedule and get back to her she said "no, let's make one now to get it on the schedule". I said no thanks and left. They are unbelievably persistent about scheduling in advance and will continue to hound you via calls, texts, and emails. Take a look at the other Citidental Boston location Yelp reviews where people have had very similar experiences to mine. Avoid this place at all costs. I have since gone to other dentists who confirmed the so-called work CITIDental suggested that I needed was unnecessary.

I can't say definitely they were taking advantage of me not being a dentist and charging me for unnecessary things, but it feels that way. Avoid Tend Dental at All Costs…read more I cannot recommend Tend to anyone considering Invisalign or any form of dental care. Dr. Shane has been excellent throughout my treatment. He is thorough, professional, and genuinely invested in his patients. It is frustrating to see someone so capable working for a company this disorganized. I have spent nearly $7,000 on Invisalign and followed every instruction carefully. My primary goal was to correct a single rotated tooth that had relapsed after prior orthodontic treatment. I saw Dr. Shane on June 16 after progressing through tray 28 of 36. At that point, we determined the tooth had enough space to rotate, but it was not responding to the current treatment plan. Dr. Shane recommended I try tray 29 for two weeks to see if it would improve. When it didn't, I returned on June 26 and he rescanned me for refinement trays to move forward. Since that June 26 appointment, no progress has been made. It is now early August and I have received no new trays, no update, and no timeline. I have been wearing tray 29 for nearly a month and a half. It is deteriorating, full of holes, and has become uncomfortable to wear. I communicated this clearly to the staff. After "checking" twice and confirming that my trays were physically at the office prior to my scheduled appointment, I was notified less than an hour before the visit that the wrong trays had been sent by the lab. Instead of taking accountability or expediting a solution, I was simply rescheduled three more weeks out -- as if that was an acceptable response to wearing a deteriorating aligner for over six weeks. There was no urgency, no escalation, and no regard for the impact this delay would have on my treatment. Adding to the frustration, Tend routes all scheduling and communication through a centralized call center. You cannot speak directly with the local office. Even basic requests turn into drawn-out back-and-forth exchanges with someone who has no knowledge of your treatment or any relationship with your provider. I explicitly requested a call from someone in leadership -- twice. Instead, I received a generic email more than a week later saying my concern had been forwarded to studio management. No one ever followed up. No one seems to care. This experience is not an isolated case. On my past few visits to the Kendall Square location, I have personally witnessed at least two other patients visibly upset in the waiting area, also due to Tend's negligence. That says everything about how this place is run. Once this issue is resolved, I will not be returning. Tend is all about polished branding, but behind the scenes is a revolving door of staff, zero accountability, and no real support once they have your money. Dr. Shane deserves to work somewhere that supports both patients and professionals. If you are considering Tend, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Your time, money, and health deserve better.

I regret it. let me tell you why, first from a very practical perspective: 1. the dental hygienist was quite inexperienced. she was taking x rays and it took many many tries to get them right. I certainly got much more radiation than necessary. she also knocked over the tool cart. she needed reassurance from me (the patient) 2. when the dentist came, she was condescending and used over complicated language, as if she graduated from dental school two months ago and was interested in applying all the big words she had learned. she admonished what she perceived as my insistent questioning of a dental concern. the upselling was also off the charts -- recommending invisalign, for example, which I definitely don't need. She kept saying something about the "lateral force applied to my teeth." she also said that when I come back in six months (see below), they would have to do some fancy camera scan of my teeth, which I'm sure they get a pretty penny for 3. they insist on you coming in every six months. not only did they mention it many times while I was there, the doctor said that she would come out with me to schedule my follow up. when I told the front desk that I didn't want to schedule a follow up there, the receptionist became immediately dismissive and I left. Now those were the practical things. from a purely sentimental perspective, I found the whole thing extremely performative. For example, 1. When you check in, they give you a "tend" branded toothbrush and toothpaste in a "tend" bag. This is clearly a marketing ploy to get the brand "tend" in your home bathroom 2. They then suggest that you may use said toothbrush and toothpaste in the adjacent "brushery". What's the brushery you may ask? It's two sinks in a room to brush your teeth in. 3. The overall aesthetics feel as though you're in some type of casino. Too many lights and colors. And everything feels cheap. It feels like they've tried to spend as little money as possible to appear as hip as possible, while providing the minimal amount of service possible. i Have never been too cynical about the rise in "business-minded" healthcare practices, as bloat does seem to be an issue in healthcare. But my god I have nothing positive to say about tend, and everything in there stank to me of private equity stripping the life out of something. I don't even have anything against private equity, that's just how it felt. If I had one thing to say to tend, it would be: do less. I just want my teeth cleaned.

The website says all are welcome. Apparently that is all but wheelchair users.
