I was craving a sweet beverage and mochi donut, so my only option was Cha Papi. Now that they've been open for a bit, the lines are MUCH shorter and you don't have to worry about there being no donuts left halfway through the day. I got the Almond Joy flavor this time and I loved it. The chocolate frosting tasted similar to Dunkin's (which I personally love) and it went well with the almond chunks and coconut flakes. My daughter saw mochi donuts on tik tok and was determined to try them. What's great is this is one of the only places in our area for these types of donuts! It is in a plaza full of culture, which is another plus. It is a very plain storefront with some seating and tables and a counter to order. They have a weekly menu with different mochi donut flavors featured each week that i thought was fun. This week, we tried the chocolate churro, ube coconut, Vietnamese coffee, and cookies and cream. They also featured lemon poppy and rose black. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get the donuts, but it was nice that they were freshly made. They were airy and chewy and were all yummy. Heard so much about it, I had to try it for myself. Located in a busy plaza, I was pleasantly surprised by these donuts and definitely willing to try them again. I went with my kids on a Monday afternoon and wasn't busy at all, able to walk in and place the order right away. They change the flavors each month I believe and we got a half dozen assortment and a boba tea for my daughter. She loves the Thai tea with boba and we all loved the donuts. Had a chance to stop there to get some donuts the other day. The place is nice inside, however ot is in a bit of a random plaza in the Elmwood section of west Hartford. The place is nice inside with several tables and chairs to get some coffee, donuts and do some work or homework. We only got the donuts, the churro one, the vanilla chocolate butter cream, and the strawberry shortcake. I felt like the more simple ones like the churro one were good, nice, and chewy. There's plants everywhere, several seating options, it is pretty spacious, cozy and well lit. I knew what I wanted to get for over a month, when I first saw the menu. It is their Black Sesame Latte. My friend got the Mango Jasmine Fresca tea, with aloe. We also got the key lime mochi donut. My Black Sesame latte was very tasty, it was sweet, nutty, and filled with black sesame seeds. You should probably examine your teeth in a mirror before you move on with your day, chances are you may have a few pesky black seeds in your teeth. I love how they offer unique drinks at Cha Papi. My friend's Mango Jasmine Fresca was very refreshing. I would get it next time. The mochi donuts have been selling pun intended "like hot cakes", honestly these were just ok for me. The donut is very soft and fresh, but it's over $4.00 for just one. The key lime pie flavor was far too sweet for me. We had such a lovely experience checking out cha papi for the first time! You can tell the staff takes great care of the store as it was sparkling clean and organized! The staff were very friendly and patient with us as well since we had no idea what we wanted! The donuts were fantastic and fresh. Our favorite was the Black Forest and the raspberry but all of them were delicious! And we had to try the teas as well! I wanted to stop by here for some time, but decided to wait until the lines weren't as crazy. I finally visited with my sister and nieces, and we ordered the Ube Latte, Matcha Latte, and 6 donuts. I didn't try the matcha, but I loved the ube. I can't remember all the donut flavors, but I had a piece of the Guava, S'mores, and Matcha. The prices are overpriced in my opinion... but as far as I know, this is the only place to get mochi donuts that's not RIGHT next to NY in Connecticut. This place is in a kind of run down strip mall and next to a super old looking asian grocery store, so it's very unassuming, but the food and snacks are delicious. The donuts aren't as good as some of the ones that you can get a New York in New Jersey but I can't complain since this is so close to my home in Connecticut. I feel like they're a little too sweet compared to the other ones I've had and the glaze/frosting is caked on a little too much. But it's still delicious and a good treat. Taiyaki looks better than it tastes :) At least it provides some nice instagram opportunities and satisfies a craving without having to go to NY! So this was my first time in the store. It was super cute and very much still in the holiday spirit. I ended up getting the Elf on a Shelf, a limited holiday peppermint mocha with matcha and a churro donut. I ended up eating the donut before I could photograph (whoops!) My cousins have been talking this place up so obviously had to go and check it out for myself. They change up their menu (think Crumbl) with the donuts. The donuts are super fluffy and flavorful, so I was pleased with mine. Matcha however is tough for me. It's really bland so whenever I do muster the strength to endure it I need there to be FLAVOR. So after Glazy Susan shut down in Worcester, I've been really missing these mochi donuts. Did some local research... stumbled upon this adorable place. The photos looked too good to skip out. The mochi donuts were so yummy! In my opinion, they didn't feel as heavy or too sweet like the donuts you'd find in an American shop. The inside has a sort of "chewy" consistency and mimics the airy-like bite of the extinct French Cruller from Dunkin Donuts, as described in other reviews. Milk & Cereal was definitely my favorite, with the Salted Maple to follow. The Lemon Poppy was VERY lemony- if that is up your ally, you've gotta try it. The Oreo Hojicha was okay, although I preferred the other flavors over it (just my preference). Let me make it clear that I've never had matcha before. TLDR: Mochi donuts had incredible texture and flavors, lines are long at opening, prices are very steep Cha Papi has sparked immense attention and spotlight all over social media as the newest dessert place to come to CT. As a sweets enthusiast, I was lured to try this place. We came on the Grand Opening day but lines were at least 50 people long, so we decided to leave and try again the following weekend. With the knowledge from last week's experience and also checking their instagram account and noticing that they tend to sell out of the donuts quick, we came an hour early before their open hours. An hour was a bit overkill as no one really formed a line until roughly ten minutes before they open. However, when that line formed it was like everyone else from the parking lot also flooded the doors. A minute before opening there were at least 20-30 people now. We luckily were the first in line so we had nothing to worry about. Once doors opened, we quickly placed our orders and admired the chaos. They sell their mochi donuts as singles ($4.25) or by half a dozen (a whopping $24). They also served regular cafe drinks as well as specialty lattes and milk teas (~$4-$7). We decided to try the half dozen and sample every flavor (they also switch up the flavors every week) and a strawberry matcha latte. First of all, the presentation and ambiance of the place is beautiful--modern, trendy, and very clean. We sat by the windows and felt the glare of those waiting in line as they watched us delve into the goodies. Thoughts overall: the strawberry matcha latte was nothing too exciting as I prefer my matcha lattes a bit sweet and there was very little hints of sweetness. Taste of the strawberry purée at the bottom was very minimal and overall tasted like matcha and milk. With a very steep price of $7 and some change for a 16oz, I don't think I will be getting this again. The presentation, however, was definitely instagram worthy for all you baddies out there. Now for the mochi donuts: let me tell you--this is nothing like I've ever experienced before. This is my first time trying a mochi donut so I don't have much to compare it to, but I don't think that is necessary in this case. Wow. Wow, wow, wow! These were so delicate with a slight crisp from the shell. Once you penetrated the shell of the donut you were met with a light, fluffy, and cloud-like center. Dough is not what I think of when I bit into this...heaven was more like the word. I absolutely loved the texture of these donuts. It honestly felt like I didn't even eat anything once I consumed one full donut. The unique icings were balanced and added a special flavor to each bite. I couldn't choose a favorite because they were all different and absolutely delicious. We did have to contain ourselves and saved three donuts for later, but we could have easily finished all six in one sitting. Now, I'm writing this review the day after the experience and just tried one of the leftovers and will mention that it seems like the texture will firm up a bit compared to when it was freshly baked (duh). Those from the day after were a bit chewier but nothing was hard. It still tasted amazing. Now for the overall experience: the mochi donuts are definitely the star of the show. Try to get there early because lines form quick and they sell out fast. The drink was meh and the wow-factor came from the presentation. This review was docked a star because of two things--the price and service. To address the elephant in the room, this place is NOT cheap. We came out spending over $30 for six donuts and one drink. Now, the place advertises that they use the best quality ingredients but I'm worried about the longevity of the business with prices that high. It seems more like a novelty at this point rather than a routine stop at the local bakery. I understand that this is a mom and pop start up but I'm hoping the prices become a bit more reasonable in the foreseeable future. Being first in line was a breeze for us once they opened their doors but I saw how quickly they were backed up. Service is on the slower side but I'll excuse that for the newness of this business. This place is a unique treat! Glad I was finally able to check it out as I have been fawning over the instagram worthy goodies from afar for a while. I took home a box of the six different mochi donuts available: guava, matcha, rocky road, chocolate churro, chocolate strawberry, and pumpkin spice. There was also an iced strawberry matcha latte that was immediately downed on the ride. This was after I admired the beautiful delicate layering. It was almost too pretty to drink. The donuts were all so good. My first mochi donuts ever, so was not sure what to expect at first. They are very light and not overly sweet and sugary. Regret is pretty minimal, or it was until we decided to sample all six flavors in one sitting. Just kidding. In seriousness though, no sugar coma or lethargy. Just smiles and satisfaction. The glazes and flavors on the donuts also light. I came to try the Ube ice cream my friend kept raving about. It was as amazing as she claimed. Love the friendly folks who explained the menu to me. It didn't say that you can get the ice cream only so I needed clarification since it only listed the Taiyaki ice cream. I got the Taiyaki with red bean filling for my son which he said was "only ok" but the ice cream was the highlight. The mochi donuts looked great but didn't get a chance to try them yet. The menu is a mixture of various flavored teas, lattes, donuts, and ice cream. I love the concept of the cafe-style/ice cream shop feel to the whole place. The place was clean, minimalist deco style, and with green plants that gave a peaceful feel. As it was my first time there, I decided to try a few different things... To drink I ordered the Strawberry Matcha Latte, which was delicious! An employee told me that their matcha isn't very sweet, so I decided to add the strawberry for a little bit more sweetness. I then ordered the "Build Your Own Taiyaki," something I had never heard of before. I learned that Taiyaki is a fish-shaped cake, which is often filled with a red bean paste. This is served with soft-serve ice cream, and toppings/syrup can be added. I got the coffee matcha flavored ice cream, chocolate syrup, chocolate sprinkles, and Oreo crumble. Seriously AMAZING! They also had a custard-filled Taiyaki, and the employee said that the ice cream flavors often change. I had seen this place advertised by friends and Instagram. I went to Shu right next door for lunch and saw this giant line for a business next door and realized it was Cha Papi! After having lunch, I waited about 30 minutes to order. I bought the taiyaki and some donuts to try. The taiyaki is soooo good. I have had this one time in Washington DC last summer and wished that there was in CT! I love how they rotate their donuts weekly to feature different flavors. The only thing i wish was for there to be a better explanation of what each product is, i had to google some of the items. The raspberry, chocolate churro, and blueberry crumble really stood out, and I was surprised at how light these were! I went with my parents and we took down 4 of the 6 while we were still there! The strawberry matcha latte was fresh and not artificial. Despite going around 1 on a weekday, the place was still very busy! It was really nice inside and a great place to hang out. I recently visited Cha Papi Cafe during their preview ( Grand opening coming soon......). It is spacious and charming cafe that offers a variety of teas and sweets. Their menu includes treats like mochi donuts, Taiyaki, and numerous hot and cold beverages. During my visit, I tried two mochi donuts: one chocolate funnel cake and the other churro flavored. They were absolutely delicious. This was my first time trying mochi donuts. It's similar to a traditional donut, but the texture is moist, fluffy, and a little chewy like mochi. The flavors of the mochi donuts will change weekly, while some staple flavors will remain constant. To complement my mochi donuts, I ordered a refreshing Fresca, made with fruit purée, tea, and ice. They have a variety of unique flavor options for their frescas such as Strawberry Chrysanthemum and Passionfruit Guava Jasmine. I got a Strawberry Jasmine Fresca, it was light and mildly sweet beverage. It was very refreshing for a hot and humid day. They also serve taiyaki, a fish-shaped pastry filled with ice cream. The taiyaki comes filled with red bean paste or custard filling, and then you can choose your ice cream flavor. Today they had matcha and ube, but the flavors will rotate periodically. You can also customize your ice cream with various syrups such as caramel , condensed milk, or chocolate and add toppings like mochi, sprinkles, wafer sticks, or Oreo crumbles. I decided to get my ice cream in a cup. I got the Ube flavor, drizzled with condensed milk, and topped with chocolate sprinkles, mochi, and a wafer stick. It was delightful, and I highly recommend giving it a try. What made my visit even better was that I got to meet the owners, Brian and Shirley,,who were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Their staff was wonderful too, so friendly , efficient and provided excellent customer service. Here we are! I've been excited for the opening day of Cha Papi since I saw the paper signs go up on the window showing a Mochi donut shape. All expectations were met and exceeded once I finally got a bite of a real Mochi donut made by Cha Papi and it was everything we could've hoped for. Bouncy texture is the difference between Mochi donuts and brioche or cake donuts. I'm especially excited they have various Asian / unique flavors here like matcha, ube, black sesame, and guava. Their Thai ice tea is not too sweet which is exactly how I like it. Pair with some grass jelly and you've got it made. The mango jasmine tea is also delicious and fruity. Some unique bubble tea options here that aren't found at other spots in the area like the black sesame latte, ube latte (which is different than taro fyi), and more drinks I didn't get a chance to try yet. The matcha soft serve is some of the best I've ever had and i devoured it so quickly with the fresh red bean taiyaki cone. I need to come back to get a chance to try everything. The team at Cha Papi have been handling the crowds so well and are so friendly. The spot is a vibe and has potential to be the gathering spot for many in the future. Some tables and couch areas to sit, which I won't be surprised if they fill up quickly as Cha Papi gets their word out there.
