When we had a break during our three-hour class, I'd hit the tuck shop and get a KitKat bar. I'd eat it and it got me through linear algebra. I did it again the following summer for statistics. Math + KitKat = good times. For well over a year, I have flagged visiting KitKat Chocolatory. It is the first store of its kind in North America. I made the pilgrimage to this KitKat Mecca recently when I had a voucher to redeem for a customized KitKat bar. I dropped by last Tuesday on my day off. It's at Yorkdale Shopping Centre. I parked by entrance G at lot H1. I feel like I'm watching Sesame Street! It is one of the closer entrances to the KitKat store. I was fortunate to have nabbed a decent parking spot. When I entered the store, there were two customers ahead of me. A male staff member, Prudence, came behind the counter to help me out. I was longingly admiring the Japanese collection: "I've had the cassis in the peach box," I said. "My favourite is the yuzu," he said. "Is it because it's citrusy?" I asked him. "Yes, it's like a tangy lemon," he replied. We instantly connected on a KitKat flavour profile level. It was pretty cool. I said yes to the Japanese collection. I showed him my voucher and he led me over to the counter to help me customize my KitKat bar. The procedure consists of choosing your chocolate first. You have milk, white, or dark. I'm a dark chocolate fan, so I went with it. You then have the option to select three toppings. I knew that I wanted freeze-dried raspberries and coconut. "I need something salty," I said, which made him nod in agreement. "You have these three options," he said, pointing to them on the chart. "Pretzels. Yes!" You also have the option to include a customized message on the box. He showed me one example and I loved it. It was like Prudence knew what message would resonate with me. I chose this one: BITE ME. Seriously, I'm delicious. Perfect! He was great putting my order together, confirming what I wanted in my customized bar, and then needed my phone number to text when my order was ready. Normally, it takes 90 minutes to complete. Since it was a weekday and not crazy busy, he said that it would take an hour. Yay! I paid for the Japanese collection with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I got one text to confirm that it got to me. Prudence handed me my receipt. I thanked him and wandered off in pursuit of a late lunch. I was relaxing after a yummy meal when I received a text message that my order was ready to pick up. It did indeed take an hour. Yay! I headed over to the store and Prudence welcomed me back. He had my order ready and showed me what my curated KitKat bar looked like. It was beautiful! The bar has eight wafers covered in everything that I had specified. I was thrilled. He then showed that my Japanese collection box was included in the paper bag. I was so happy. I thanked him for all his help, which he truly seemed to appreciate. I happily left with my goodies. I ate them gradually throughout the week. My customized bar was amazing. Dark chocolate tends to work well with raspberries and coconut. It's my favourite combination. Adding something salty to dark chocolate heightens the chocolate's taste. I typically don't find dark chocolate to be overly bitter. There was no bitterness here! The Japanese collection was yummy. I loved all flavours: cassis, passion fruit, yuzu, strawberry, and raspberry. Each flavour profile was so perfect. I wish that they came in big bars, though. If you are watching your wallet, it's not cheap buying stuff here. It's the only drawback that I can see. If you don't drop by here often, you'll be fine. I recommend coming here if you are a KitKat fan. It's also cool to experience it for the first time or want to give a unique gift to someone special. I had an excellent, memorable experience. I'd definitely come back here for more yummy KitKat treats and happiness. (314)

Service: Staff are kind, patient and make sure your given all the customization choices. Sadly, that day they didn't have the chocolate malt balls but such is life. We got two customized kitkats, you can choose up to 3 toppings. It does take some time to get it down but they give you a call when it's ready. Come here first to customize your KitKat and then wander the mall/do other tasks until it's ready. We really enjoyed the customized kitkats. It's essentially like a classic Kit Kat but with your added toppings en masse. I really enjoyed my almond, chocolate cookie crumble, toffee KitKat. I didn't get to try my partners strawberry, almond, shortbread crumble KitKat but it definitely looked awesome. 5/5. The one thing I feel was a letdown was the yuzu and pomegranate kitkats. It was too strong fruit flavor. The entire chocolate taste was entirely lost. I feel like it was no longer a KitKat - 2/5. Overall, definitely recommend the make your own KitKat experience.
