So, I went to Chacho's for my once a month visit which the service is usually pretty good during the day and afternoon. I happened to be off so I invited a friend who arrived a little after I had my first beverage. I asked her to get another one for me and one for her. She came back with only one because they wouldn't allow her to get two. I went up to the counter and the middle aged African American lady quickly corrected the issue, and she was tipped accordingly. However, my friend did not like her drink. She had never drank the drink and asked me to take it back when we parted ways. This I thought would be a simple task as I had received excellent service from everyone thus far. The cashiers had agreed to give me the cash refund and the manager (Geraldo)came over refusing because we did not return it in a quick enough fashion. I explained to him that my friend did not like the drink, so a gift card would not suffice since we paid cash and she probably wouldn't return. He continued to refuse which makes no since to me since we had put plenty of money and tips in three orders (754, 771, and 841). He embarrassed me and refused the refund, and when I exited the property another customer approached me telling me that he was saying loudly that I probably put water in the drink to get the refund which really upset me because contrary to what he may have perceived, I am very well educated and currently employ people like him with similar positions. It became an entirely different issue when the other customer approached me outside and informed me of what he said. I guess I wouldn't be surprised for the judgement to happen any where else, but Chacho's???? He needs to be in a position that does not involve customers based on the way he chose to possibly lose a Customer over $7. Customer service 101 is very much needed. Thanks!! read more

We received poor service. It took us 15 minutes to get a dozen tacos. We called Chacho's Customer Service who told me the only recourse is to email the president. It's been two weeks now and I have sent four letters to John Burke, the president. There has been no reply. I liked their food but I had a real problem when it came to getting drinks. I bought 1 meal and had a total of 3 drinks. They do not advertise free refills and they do not have a fountain machine for you to fill up on your own. Also, they do not come around to your table and fill up drinks. So, today I bought 3 drinks. After leaving my friends were asking me why I had to buy drinks each time. I called the manager and he was a smart ass about the whole thing. I want so desperately to like this place, but I've had multiple bad experiences at both this location and the one on Westheimer. I keep going back hoping that it will get better. Spoiler alert: it doesn't. I ordered the Cheesy Huevos with ranchero sauce on the side (according to the description on the menu it is scrambled eggs with ranchero sauce and cheddar cheese on top). The cashier asked me how I wanted my eggs. I showed her on the menu what I wanted, thinking maybe she couldn't hear me because of how loud it was in there. She got irritated and asked again, "ya, but how do you want your eggs???" "Um, the way it says in the description....scrambled. And I would also like the sauce on the side, please". I then turned the menu towards my husband so he could order. At this point our cashier walked away; apparently she needed someone to show her how to ring up my special order of "scrambled" and "sauce on the side". Meanwhile, as my husband was attempting to look at our menu, another customer tried to take the menu from us so she could look at it, rather than get her own. She then proceeded to mouth off because how dare we tell her she couldn't reach across and take the menu out of our hands. While this is in no way Chacho's fault, her self-entitled attitude did not help our already unpleasant experience. By the time the cashier reappeared we had decided it would be best for us to go somewhere else; after all, I don't look good in orange, even if it IS the new black. read more

Have to admit, you can really gain some weight here. The Mexican food is really good here. Unfortunately the place looks like it could use some updating and cleaning. We had combo fajitas and it came with works! Cheap eats for really good food. I visited on a weekday during lunch. The counter service is ridiculously horrible, there were 3 people behind the counter, 2 customers and about a 7 minute wait just to place an order. I went back to place an order of chips and was waiting 6 minutes with only 1 customer in front of me and my order came out so I did not bother buying chips. The counter works at a snails pace. The cooks do awesome and the bus boys cleaning up your table are very friendly. Will over look the crappy counters service for this good food when I am in this area again. read more

Had heard good things about this place, but personally, I'm not a huge fan. The food is adequate, but nothing special, probably on par with or a tiny step above Taqueria La Tapatia. The difference is that I do not consider Taqueria La Tapatia (at least the one on Richmond) to be a flat out unpleasant place to eat--can't say the same for Chachos. As previously noted, it used to be a Bennigans, which, as everyone will recall, was a restaurant with waiter service. The restaurant configuration reflects that, with narrow walkways designed to accommodate only a few people getting up to walk around at a time. With Chachos being self-service, this configuration doesn't work, and the place turns into a clusterf--k/mouse maze trying to get around anywhere. It just doesn't make sense, they should have reconfigured the space a la Taco Milagro, which has a very open floor plan. Second, the place just feels dirty/worn down, even though they just opened. They clearly severely skimped on remodeling costs, and it shows. "Oh, just slap some festive Mexican-themed paint on the wall and no one will notice!" Blech. I couldn't wait to finish my food and split ASAP. As for the food, I thought this place's schtick was it's low prices--personally, I didn't think the prices were that great for what you had to go through to get your food. Sure, it's sorta cheap, but it's on par with Taqueria La Tapatia, 100% Taquito, and just marginally cheaper than Taco Milagro (for example: one fish taco at Chachos is $3.49 with no sides--you can get two fish tacos plus two sides at Taco Milagro for $8). I also really resent how Chachos nickle-and-dimes you for EVERYTHING. Want chips and salsa to start? $2. Want a refill on your soda? 50 cents (WTF?)--that's on top of the $2.09 you paid for the large soda--that's absurd, at $2.09 refills should be built in to the price. Want sides with your taco order? $2 each for beans and rice. I mean, come on, seriously? I'm surprised they don't charge you $0.50 to use the bathroom and $30 for checked bags, while they're at it. read more

Judging by my harsh rating you can gather that I am not a fan of this place at all. In all fairness I gave them two shots. The only thing that they have going for them and that will allow them to stay in business is the fact that they are open 24 hrs. For some reason most of the restaurants in Houston close by 10 or 11PM, even though this is the 4th largest city in the country. I lived in Alaska most of my life and many places stay open until at least 1AM. Anyway, off my side rant, I thought the food here was disgusting. I had the steak nachos and I thought the cheese tasting like it was the Kraft singles you put on your sandwich. Did not taste like shredded cheddar cheese at all. The steak tacos I had were not that much better. Overall I was disappointed with just about everything, including the dark decor. There is a cop there at night (wonder why) so that tells me that there have been problems in this restaurant. Anyway, at least they are looking out for their customer's safety so that is a plus. Chacho's in one of those places where you have to know what to order. I haven't been to Chacho's in a long time but my good friend Chandra W wanted to meet up here for lunch. All I remembered is that they have horrible queso and that the chicken platter was my favorite thing. So upon my return to this "new" location, I saw that it looked pretty much the same, same menu and same chicken platter, but for lunch it is way cheaper $5.99 or something and that includes a drink! Now the food is kinda like Taco Cabana in a way but with more options, I guess. I like TC so this place is ok. So as stated this location is new, but it looked kinda run down, like it was a benigans or something and they had Salma Hayek's family in the movie Fools Rush in come in to paint but didn't clean up afterwards. So if you are a germ-a-phob then avoid t all cost. It is counter service, but the cashier was friendly if you smile. Would I be a regular here? No, but if it is lunch time and I am nearby then I would stop by for the Chicken Platter special, for sure, I may bring germ-x just in case. Oh yeah FYI, someone next to me did order the nachos that came with the queso, it looked pretty terrible. It is wierd the queso consitency just doesn't look right. read more

It isn't the best but it's open, quick, and cheap. I had never chosen to eat here during the day until a couple of days ago. Excellent price for excellent food gets four stars, but negative -1 for customer service. I had a bad interaction when I picked up my order. I got yelled at when I discovered an item missing from my order. I was told even if my order is posted as ready on the board, I should wait until they're finished with the order before complaining something is missing. Wtf, it's on the board as ready now I gotta wait until I'm told it's ready? There is minimal interactions when your're ready to order and hardly ever a nice greeting or proper thank you. One Friday night my friends and I witnessed two cashiers exchanging " bitch you dont fu ing know me. Fu bitch, I will f u up". They were going at it while we waited......for them to take a break from it when another employee walked by. We still had to wait because they went right back to cursing each other out. I finally said, can I place my order? But another customer said " cut it and take that up on your own time, where is the manager!!? I got a an ugly look and she said "what you gonna git". The other cashier threw out another "bitch" and it was on again. We got our orders in when other employees realized there was a problem and asked what's going on. I've never returned at night. My friends said they've not seen the cashier that had on alot of makeup that night and seem to be too old/mature to not be able to handle her temper and allow herself to be apart of such nasty exchanges in front of the guests. Mostly, I blame management. Where is the supervisor or lead line person? Some employees NEED supervision. I like chaccos and its right around the corner from where I live. But, my friends love to go for the margaritas and food, but ive never returned at night and may visit to see if things has changed. I'll keep you posted. read more

After some coworkers recommended this place I was reluctant bc of the yelp reviews. I'm glad I went anyway, I got the fish tacos plate which were the best fish tacos I've ever had. The meat is a generous portion, fresh, tender, flavorful, and everything seems to be cooked fresh including the salsa station which has a vast variety of salsas all homemade daily. To top it off, the prices are more than reasonable, esp for the size and quality. Still puzzled by some of reviews- this place is awesome. read more

My first visit. I was expecting more of a restaurant than a fast food establishment. The person that took our order was not helpful in explaining how to order and that ordering a margarita on the rocks had to be done at the bar and pay separately. The bartender was a.lot more pleasant and helpful. My order was quickly made and I found a place to sit. I had ordered a fajita burrito full size. It was definitely on the large size, but there was way more beans and rice than meat. I eventually found a dollop of sour cream and a smear of guacamole. The margarita was horrible. I cannot even describe the nasty taste it left in my mounts. I have crossed this restaurant off of my list completely. read more
