Very tasty food, super nice and accommodating staff, and a really cozy vibe! I always order their chimichanga, and every time without fail I'm scraping the bottom of plate wishing it was somehow even bigger (it's already a large portion I'm just supremely gluttonousness). Enchiladas Verdes was solid but not amazing, would eat it again but probably wouldn't order it. The complimentary chips and salsa are also super tasty, probably the best salsa I've had in a restaurant. Im only docking it a star because although they are super accommodating, I've had issues with accomodations not being fulfilled enough times that it's a somewhat serious concern. I would chalk it up to me not speaking Spanish and there being a language barrier, but I've still had these issues whenever I go with someone who does. read more

Dropped by again and found new gem. The nachos are superb!! Love this place and the food and service is reason I keep coming back. Recommend you try it as well. I don't know what I was expecting but it was just ok. The place was leaking in various places while there and it felt tight and crowded, a bit dirty. Our waitresses were nice but service was unfortunately slow. Our food arrived at different times and the dishes too were just ok, nothing spectacular. read more

I really really wish I could give it more of a 3.5 because that's really what it is overall. The pros for me. I really liked the Pollo Empanizado. The way they make it is exactly how I like mine cooked! That was a huge plus for me! They also have hand-made tortillas both flour and corn. I love hand made flour tortillas. The prices are fair. We ordered a lot of food and it wasn't too bad. Atmosphere & cleanliness: definitely a 2 out of 5. As I say in all of my reviews...Customer service can make or break a place. This place kind of dropped the ball on customer service for us. We would ask for things and they wouldn't bring it or just forget. I asked specifically for fresh jalapeños and they brought the pickled ones. I'm very thorough and detailed when I order because I'm kind of picky. I do get upset when people only half listen to what you ask for. This is more so a place to come if you want decent Mexican food because you're in the area but don't expect anything above and beyond. I would give ZERO stars if I could. The customer service from the ladies is average, but the food is terrible. The fajitas are so dry and unseasoned. The refried beans are watery and flavorless. The guacamole had pieces of the avocado stems in it. Even the tortillas taste so bad. Mexican food is my favorite next to Asian food, but this is by far the WORST Mexican food I've ever had in my entire existence. I'm never coming back. read more

Eh, unassuming Mexican spot. Not a true 2 stars, maybe 2.4. Portions are large and food isn't bad. Prices are decent. Would be close to 3 stars if dining inside or quickly. It's Mexican nonetheless, but in Houston you must come harder. Now it may be because of delivery, and distance, but I accounted for this and still misses the mark. Chimichanga had bacon in it, which could have been okay, but only tasted like beef and bacon? enchiladas sauce was lacking flavor and depth, beans and rice didn't seal any deals. Roaming the streets two Saturdays ago, I decided to stop in here for a quick meal in the heart of the Gulfton area. I'll be honest: I wasn't really looking for this place but decided to try it when I spotted its neighbor (The Pie Factory) next door. The interior is colorful and gives off an authentic vibe with most of the clientele speaking Espanol solamente. The staff also tilts in more of that direction but no worries since the menu is all in English. A warm bowl of salsa accompanied a basket of chips and a trio of condiments (pickled carrots, salsa verde, and something). The salsa was a bit spicy but oh-so-good on a chilly day. Its hypnotic power kept me from veering off to try any of the condiments as I operated like an efficient robot to pick a chip, drag it through the salsa, and into my maw. After a few moments, my waitress stopped by and asked me in Spanish what I'd like. I asked for a pollo asada gordita ($2.95), two carne asada tacos ($1.65 each), and a Diet Coke. The soda arrived in a can along with a large tumbler of ice - upon inspection of the cup, it had a filmy residue on it so I opted to drink the soda out of the can and through the provided straw. The gordita started off well but the chicken inside was greasy so I abandoned that halfway through. The carne asada tacos suffered a different fate in the kitchen, having been overcooked to a consistency akin to beef jerky. I would've tried to fix this with some lime juice but they had not brought any of the traditional sides of limes and chopped onions. After three bites, I had enough of my "jerky" tacos and pushed the plate away. After a short duration, I asked for my bill, settled up, and left quickly. The saddest part is that this flop robbed me of the will to go next door for some (hopefully) great pie. In a way, I was "pie blocked" by jerky tacos - save your cash and pick another taqueria. read more

My family and I have dined in this place on several occasions. However, today a very uncomfortable and dangerous situation occurred as we were eating. Two men began arguing and confronting each other. The situation was disturbing because there was no security seen in the restaurant. The attention and concerned was placed on the men provoking the incident, instead of assuring the rest of the customers were safe. Very very disturbing!!! Famished and looking for some where near the vicinity we were at we spotted several taquerias. Since there are so many crazy drivers, a place on our left would be the best best to avoid making any "it's ur fault cause I don't have insurance" U-turns. This place looks like a typical taqueria, but it was busy. Sweet!! The clientele was diverse, so onward with the ordering. Before even ordering, chips, smoky salsa, creamy verde salsa in a squirt bottle, hot homemade salsa and pickled carrots and jalapenos make it to the table. Wow. I love the thicker, crunchy chips, but I may have found a new love...the carrots with the spicy, creamy salsa. It's sooo spicy and delish!! They are popular for their Jalisco tacos and gorditas. I ordered the carne asada gordita (hot and googey that had bits of fat, that can easily be removed) and a ceviche tostada (literally). While they were tasty, I still preferred the carrots. Still craving the carrots, friends came in town, so back to the taqueria. Everyone ordered plates and I ordered the shrimp torta, the bread was so pillowy. This is what I call authentic straight from a Mexican mama's kitchen food. This used to be called "El Alteño" however, they sold or change named, idk. I come here every 4 months or so because it is a way from me, but worth it when I'm craving Mexican. Downside, salsa and a few items lack salt but I noticed that many individuals start shaking salt even before tasting their dishes so for those this is your place. I'm guessing they do that so you can measure your salt content. Other than that this food is greasy "manteca" licking good. I had pozole, most of time is amazing, this time it was great but needed something. Now the carne asada plate was delicious. Almost like backyard hommie party good. What I like from this place is that they are happy to accommodate you (unlike "Aguascalientes Gorditas" whose pozole suck btw). What I also love about this place is there fresh juice, I had an orange juice-yummy. They also have fresh handmade tortillas - what a bonus. If you love Papasitos or Chuys (which i do enjoy) and are expecting the same experience as them then you will be very disappointed. The dishes are literally what you will be served if they invite you to eat in a Mexican 's house. Also, no fake smiles here. The waitress are there to do their job and they want to please you, however, no bubbly personality kissing ass going on here. Another thing I might want to add is the area. This is a humble, minority neighborhood. Hey where else would I go for real Mexican. Neighborhood may look scary to some individuals. I have a love hate relationship with this place. Generally it's very good and a generous portion but every now and then they skimp or the food is subpar. I highly recommend the Nachos Guadalajara mixtos (meaning chicken and beef fajita) and the chimichanga mixta. The juices are freshly squeezed and the tacos and tortas are delicious. read more

I used to come here when I was a young girl. Twenty five or so years later I gave it another try and I'm hooked again. I believe I was only disappointed once but not bad enough that made me want to stop coming. The food has flavor and if they made a mistake they are happy to correct it. Waitresses are not the friendliest but I do like that (I mean they don't exaggerate coming every 5 mins asking if everything is ok) . They do come around even if it's not their table. The one time I was disappointed was when they didn't sell me tamales alone. They came in a plate and I had to order the whole plate which I didn't want because I had already order a plate and just wanted a few tamales on the side. The place is an old building and rundown but kitchen its still working just fine. read more
