I have been a customer for years in the past ordering with co-ops and on my own, even purchased futures in the past only to have the crop nearly destroyed that year. Only prefer the late harvest and broke down and ordered 2 gallons this year. I wrote to tell them that it tastes terrible and not at all what I have had in the past. Even asked if the W or M on the top of the bottle meant it was Mid-season. and not late harvest. Was told it was an in-house mark and did not indicate season. I have ordered olive oil from Chaffin Family Orchards for several years and have been very happy with their service and their product. HOWEVER, this year I ordered, they charged me, and according to the tracking service they recommend to their customers, they have, after 3 weeks, not bothered to send my order. I was charged $176 on July 17th and as of August 5 it still has not been shipped, even though their site says they shipped on July 18th. I do not know what has happened to their business, but the service is now horrible and I would never recommend this business. Disappointing to say the least, and as they will not return my phone calls, I am not likely to get a refund for my very pricey olive oil. Shame on you, Chaffin Family Orchards!!!! read more

The olive oil here is amazing. It sells out quite quickly, so make sure you sign up for the emails. I have not tasted an olive oil with such a fruity nose, and it makes an excellent topping for anything, but especially cooked popcorn and cooked steak. I also bought fresh olives, and made the best tasting pickled olives I ever had. And what fun, to taste your own homemade olives. It was a fun project that I bought two batches, using one for making olives as gifts. And it's a very fare price. read more

I've been looking for a source of fresh olives to home cure and came across the Chaffin website. I signed up for notifications on when their olives would be ready to ship, got the email and placed the order on a Monday morning. The olives shipped the same day and got here on Wednesday. Really nice looking olives, nice and plump with very little damage or bruising. I've already prepped them for the water soak. The price is fair, the shipping fast and the olives are fresher and nicer than any you'd find in an urban market, even an urban farmer's market. read more

People on the farm are friendly and helpful. The setting is so pastoral. Loved those chickens in their cute little coups, BTW. We were so lucky on our way back home to SoCal we were able to buy enough great apricots to enjoy raw and make some jam. They taste even sweeter when you know they are organic. We are looking forward to coming back whenever we are visiting again. read more

Really great fruit and olive oil, if you can deal with their apathy and lack of customer service. Apparently, they have so much business with farmer's markets and CSA boxes that they don't really care if you pre-order to come by the ranch and buy big boxes of fruit. Maybe they make more money at the other places, and that's fine, but they shouldn't advertise the availability of fruit at the ranch then. It's nearly impossible to get someone to answer the phone, and when they do, each person will tell a different story about what is available, and when it will be available. {You get the hint that if you go to farmer's market, they might have (whatever fruit is in season) availability, but certainly not if you order lugs to pick-up at the ranch.} If you follow the advice that one person gives stating when a certain fruit will be ready (for example, in 2 weeks the figs will be ripe), and then you call back in less than 2 weeks, another person says that the figs are all sold out and done for the season. When I confronted them about this confusing and irritating lack of adequate communication, they try to say that's just how farming is, and it's been a really hot summer. I say: Either someone is lying, or this is incompetence, and a blatant disregard for customer service because other orchards have been able to consistently tell me when each variety of fruit is available, and when I get there to pick up my order, it is exactly as stated on the phone. This is really important, especially when you are travelling 3 hours. Therefore, if you are able to buy any fruit from Chaffin Orchards, consider yourself fortunate. However, if you're not up to games and mis-information, I'd advise shopping elsewhere...like Sodaro Orchards in Marysville, or Johnson Farm in Gridley. read more

Great beef at a good price, but beware if you are pre-ordering a side of beef. Our customer service experience has been so terrible, we will find another way to get our beef next year. We still do not have our beef (due more than 2 weeks ago), and getting any information or response is almost impossible. Our phone calls and emails are ignored. read more
