I had been telling myself I needed to stop at some of these non-chain type of stores as Austin is filled with them and I constantly pass by them. I went on a weekday after an appointment and knew I would probably be the only patron (and I love that). The location is rather random near the large Strait Music sign/store you see as you are getting off the highway. The woman who helped me was named Yvonne (or Yvette - sorry ) and she was awesome. There is nothing that peeves my soul more than the second I step into a store, a store rep is following a few steps behind me, asking me several questions. I'm the kind of person who needs to see what all the store has to offer, if any of it interests me, I then visualize it in the space I'm considering, etc. Constantly having someone behind me or waiting on me, puts this anxiety inducing pressure on me that my body seems to be allergic to lmao I will literally stop what I'm doing and end up leaving a store when I get to this overwhelmed point. I'm so very glad this did not happen here. I was greeted, said I was just perusing, and would let them know if I had any questions. I was shocked that the employees working that day respected this and actually let me walk around in peace. Even if I was taking a couple pictures and probably looking confused as I stood there visualizing where I might use this or that, etc. I ended up buying a couple of these very cute small outdoor plastic cups for a BBQ I was going to later that day and this awesome light-up outdoor Bluetooth speaker lantern. The only thing I would say is the outdoor lantern that I purchased would have sounded a lot better had I purchased two of them. They are truly intended for outdoor hanging around a larger space I would say as you can pair multiple speakers together. I went towards the end of the Summer so they were having some pretty decent sales going on with items discounted 30 - 70% off as Halloween and holiday decor was about to make its way in. Definitely recommend at least stopping past and looking at all they have to offer! read more

I came into Chair King for the second time after some window shopping. This time in - again - staff was very attentive and helpful, checking on my mom and I periodically and answering questions. After walking around for about an hour, I made up my mind ! I purchased a set - sofa and 2 chairs. Delivery was very fast and came during the designated window. She was patient with my many calls with questions and she spent time helping us find the absolute right furniture for our deck. I wouldn't hesitate to shop there for other items. For the chair "king," the selection could be a lot better. Very limited selection of prints to choose from for standard patio cushions, and very little in stock on location. Additionally, when the salesman tells you they can "special order any size cushion for you," it DOES NOT mean that they will actually special order a specific size. They choose the size from a book, and if your desired cushion size isn't in the book, you're out of luck. Incredibly misleading, especially since I had to drive an hour to get here only to find out that they do not actually special order anything. Coming here was an overall waste of time. You'd have better luck trying Plush in Cedar Park. Bigger selection and they will actually do custom sizes. read more

According to the Chair King website, their stores carried several of the brands of tables I favored. I'd been looking for local dealers for awhile, and was rather delighted to find someone who might have what I was looking for locally. It was with high hopes that I entered the Chair King store. The store is a vast floor space of chairs, chairs, and chairs. They are, the chair king, after all. Unfortunatly, their table selection is quite small. There were several tables I liked - but all were much larger than what I was seeking. Still, warm weather is coming up, and 80% or more of their stock seems to be outdoor furniture. I decided to browse to see if a suitable pair of patio chairs would catch my interest. I'd just begun to wander when I was approached by an employee. I commented that they really didn't have what I was looking for, and I was just going to browse the remainder of their floor. He vaguely waved to a back wall, "We have a little bit of indoor furniture in clearance back there," I moved to head in that direction, but he interrupted me. "What are you looking for?" I explained that I was looking for a table smaller than 40". He led me back up to the front of the store to make certain I'd seen their two smallest tables. Yup, I had, I don't like pedestal tables. I once again moved to browse the floor for outdoor furniture, yet then, somehow, I found myself out the front door. I really feel like I'd been shoved out the door (albeit not physically rejected). The sign on the door indicated that the store was open for another 2 hours, yet even if I'd wandered in at closing time a polite, "I'm sorry, we're closing soon." would have been better than leading me back to the front of the store and then somehow verbally indicating that I had no further business pursuing their merchandise. So. Yeah. The staff doesn't like you looking at their furniture, so don't bother stopping by unless you are prompt to point and say, "That one. Here's cash." read more

I went to buy new cushions for my patio furniture. Met, perhaps, the worst salesman ever. Held up a sign and said these could be ordered. The sale? Well that was last week. Ok. I walked around and got interested in a new grill. Bad sales guy never followed up. HALF an hour. I went to desk to inquire about glass for patio fireplace. Sent me over somewhere to see for myself. I stopped in recently to look for a table for my deck and some ideas for the back patio. I found it to be a fairly low pressure sales environment. The person that we worked with said that most people need come in a few times before they can make up their minds. In fact, she seem a little surprised that we were ready to pick out a table on our first visit. This is basically an outdoor furniture store and I thought they had a good selection. Delivery was prompt and hassle free. It is very likely that we will be back when we are ready to do something with the patio. read more

I'm surprised at the bad reviews. They are not low cost, but the quality and selection are great. We did a LOT of research and warranties are almost non existent for outdoor furniture. I was glad to see Chair King had a decent one. Katy was phenomenal during the selection process and worked with us on price. We went back a few times for various reasons and she made us feel like we were her most important customer. Delivery was quick and professional. We had an issue with one swivel chair 'clicking' and they replaced it within one week. Everyone we worked with was great, and we love our furniture. Definitely check this place out! read more

The customer service with this store is absolutely horrible. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! We purchased a patio set (table and 4 chairs) not even one year after purchasing the set, while sitting in the chair the chair cracked at the base sending me tumbling to the concrete. I understand things happen. All I expected to happen was honor the warranty that I was promised when I bought the set and not have to jump through hoops to make it happen. It has now been 8 weeks and nothing. I have talked to the store manager Wes and all he does is blow smoke. Completely dissatisfied. Would have much rather taken my money elsewhere if I knew this would be the case. I have caught Wes in multiple lies. If there is one thing I can't stand, that is a liar. Purchased outdoor furniture. The furniture is of good quality and the delivery went smoothly. However, the Guardsman policy they sell you to protect your furniture is worthless and a complete scam. Requested refund from Chair King for amount of the policy. Local store tried to help with this but corporate was fairly uncooperative and continue to stand behind a product that does not do what they say. If you purchase furniture from Chair King do not buy this Guardsman policy. This company has bad reviews on Better Business Bureau. read more

we have bought several items for this location in the past, we were happy the first time, the second we had to change delivery dates several times due to unforeseen reasons. this last time we called to schedule and were told this friday, turns out they meant next Friday 5/24/19 we are not happy with this, we are waiting to see how they respond.also one of the pieces we bought last time broke and they did help getting it replaced. i have no problem telling the truth btw our new furniture is costing 6500 read more

The Austin area has 3 different Chair King locations that I'm aware of. I went looking for a pair of chairs yesterday at the store near Lakeline. I was told that the pair I wanted was part of set, and I would have to wait a month to have them ordered. And, also that I would miss out on a sale that was going on. No matter who I spoke to, the quick answer was "sorry, you'll have to wait". I then called the store on Barbara Jordan this afternoon, and was pretty much told the same story. Well, then I called the store at Lakeway, and spoke to Suzie (the Store Manager, I believe). She looked in her system and saw that a store in San Antonio had a broken set. She called them, and then she called me back at home. She said that she had arranged for the San Antonio store to send her two, and she would let me have the two today off her showroom! What Customer Service! I picked them up late this afternoon. They were perfect, and I was able to take advantage of a sale discount that wouldn't have fully applied had I ordered them and then wait a month. So, I am now a fan. However, be apprised: Not all Chair King outlets have the same level of resourcefulness, flexibility, and commitment to customer satisfaction. The selection is pretty impressive and are able to shop in a low pressure environment, which is nice. The prices are so-so, but the furniture is probably better than most. After trying out several table and chair sets, we settled on the setting that we wanted. The sales person helped us to get an approximate delivery date prior to sale also. My experience from there went poorly. At the cash register, we were misled and upsold. Chair King tries to sell you this "Guardsman Extended Warranty" for quite a bit. It's worthless! The sales person we worked with told us all of these magical things were true about it -- rips, tears, cuts, scrapes, discoloration, anything is covered! And, who is to question their knowledgeable claims about the warranty? The brochure they have on it is too vague to give you any worthwhile detail. I can now say from personal experience how this warranty doesn't hold up as I just filed claims on three individual pieces of furniture that had various damage to them after just a year's worth of use. Guardsman denied EACH claim. One claim they processed via their web site after I emailed in a picture. The other two, they sent out a service technician to look at them, only to inform me two weeks later via email that they would not cover the damage. At first sight, I really liked my Chair King furniture and experience, but just a year later, I have furniture that didn't stand up well outside in the Texas elements and a completely worthless warranty that I feel I was lured into purchasing with statements inconsistent with what they were selling. Notice that none of the positive reviews involve warranty work. I too had a positive experience in the Arlington store when I bought furniture for our new patio. Then four months after purchase, one of the club chairs broke the plate that allows it to rock. I called about the warranty, and they seemed helpful, but after three weeks they had done nothing. In frustration, I offered to bring the chair in so they could see the problem, which I did. It took them over a month after that to send me the new plates, which they said I would need to install myself. Fine. Got them home, and they were the wrong plates. Called the store and got the run around--they just couldn't believe the warehouse had made mistake. They told me to call the regional sales manager, David. Left multiple requests for him to call me, but he can't be bothered to return my phone call. The Arlington store manager says that he can't get the warehouse manager to return his phone calls, so what chance do I have getting corporate to talk to me? At this point, I have a chair that's worse than broken, guests coming over for the 4th who will have to sit on the ground, and a company who really couldn't give a darn, apparently. If you buy from Chair King, you'd better hope you never have to deal with them again. read more

I'm in the process of building a new deck and sun room and plan to buy a new Weber grill. I've picked one out and can find it anywhere in black for $799. I stopped in to Chair King because of an ad in the Sunday paper that had the exact grill I've been looking for, but with 2 island cabinets that were advertised for "free" w/ the purchase of the black grill for $899. Inside the store they had the copper color of the grill "on sale" for $799 so I talked to the salesman to understand why the black was $899 w/ the "free" cabinets. I told him I could get the black grill anywhere for $799...so not sure why I would pay $100 more for "free" cabinets. He said he understood and just walked away. I guess they are making enough money on their false advertising to keep their doors open, but I certainly won't be furnishing my deck or sunroom from them. read more

I bought a bistro table and chairs last year. Within a couple of months, screws were coming undone on the chairs. My husband said it was no big deal; things like this happen and proceeded to tighten them. Then, we had to move the table and when we moved it, one of the legs broke off! Mind you, this was not a cheap table; I have always known The Chair King to sell quality furniture. Because I bought it from the clearance section, I figured it was too bad, so sad. Then I happened to go back to the store looking for something else, and I mentioned what happened to the store manager at the time (Robert). He told me it had a 1 year warranty (no one ever told me this when I purchased it, nor did I get any paperwork that mentioned this). Robert said they didn't have anyone to work on it, but for me to take it to some person downtown. The person would look at it and if he/she thought he/she could fix it, they would. I went twice to the location given to me, but could never find anyone to help me with this. Robert had told me that if it could not be fixed, to go back to the store and he would see what could be done. Due to many personal/medical problems, I did not go. My husband paid found someone to repair it, and needless to say, we paid almost as much as I paid for the table & chairs. read more

If only I could give them negative stars!!! First I went to the store on Barbara Jordan in Austin and loved the furniture but had such poor customer service I left and went to the 183 store. Cheryl was eager to help me and I decided on a set I totally loved, paid and set up delivery for last Friday. Cheryl told me I would get a call the night before confirming the delivery window. By 7 I had not received a call and I called the store only to be told that for some reason I was dropped from the delivery schedule. At that point the manager offered to sell me the floor sample which I turned down as I didn't have the time to go look it over good. I finally found out that Cheryl put the delivery in the computer wrong and that is why it dropped. So I scheduled the delivery for 8:00 this morning. Right at 7 they show up and it's cold out so I have them put it on the patio. A bit after that I go outside and sit down and realize it's the wrong chairs. I call the store and after investigating what happens I am told that the assistant manager Jay, took the order out of the computer and when he re-entered the order he put in the wrong chairs and now my chairs are OUT OF STOCK. Thanks for the help Jay! Since the mess up on Friday I have been trying to get hold of Mike the district manager who everyone swears returns his calls but after three days of calling him repeatedly I beg to differ about him returning calls. So o decided to call his boss Curt. After leaving 4 messages today begging Curt to please call me back I have realized that apparently he trained Mike in the art of NOT calling people back as the phone has yet to ring. I even decided to leave a message for the CEO who also decided not to call me back. Last Friday when the furniture did not arrive the store manager offered to sell me the floor samples; so today trying still to get furniture (I REALLY like their furniture) I ask if they would be willing to sell that at a discount to keep a customer happy. What a surprise THEY SAID NO!!!! Even tho TWO of their employees royally messed up they refuse to make it right or even have the decency to call me back and talk to me. So as of now I have a refund being processed and the wrong furniture in my backyard. I want it gone! If they don't want me as a customer I do not want to be a storage yard for their goods. The only decent employee I have spoken with is Barbara who honestly seems to want to help but has no authority to do so. She was the only person I was able to talk to today as the assistant manager Jay was in Houston at a meeting and the manager was off. Good planning guys!!!!! I would not recommend shopping at Chair King. The salespeople are unhappy, unhelpful, and almost obstinate. Their warrantee return policy is frustrating at best. I returned a chair which was obviously a manufacture issue. The salesperson agreed but instead of giving me a new chair and sending the chair back to the manufacture, I had to wait for the return to be approved. That took 5 weeks. I went back to the store twice, the salesperson was irritable because he really had no answer as to why I couldn't just get another chair while Chair King waited for the manufacturer. Not their policy. After I followed up again and finally was "approved" to go get a replacement chair, the salesperson on duty was so annoyed and snippy about the replacement. Very bad attitude. By the way, when I purchased the original 6 chairs, they had to be ordered from the warehouse. When I went to the loading dock to pick them up, they were not assembled. I asked for them to assemble them and they were so reluctant to actually do the work. Told me how easy it was etc. Who ever heard of a quality furniture place expecting you to assemble your own stuff. It's not Ikea and the prices are not either. This was the Lakeway store. read more

Don't buy anything from the Chair King unless you don't need it until months and months from now. I ordered a furniture set and was told it would arrive in a month. Since that time, my order has been pushed back 3 times with no notice to me. And - I have had to call them if I wanted to know where my furniture is. When I complained that the delivery is taking too long, the representatives I spoke to could not have cared less. The salesperson even offered to cancel my order for me rather than deal with the issue at all. I wrote to the head office to try to get some answers since I could not get any locally and they never even responded to my email. I ordered this furniture for the summer and here I am halfway through the summer with still no clue when my furniture will arrive. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy based on the poor customer service and runaround - no answers policy that I have received. read more
