Austin's Furniture depot is located on Burnet Road and offers a unique mix of new furniture, statement pieces, and items from local artists. This is not your typical furniture store. Surprisingly, the Austin signs are quite affordable. I asked Shawn one of the store managers, what do folks do with all these signs. He responded by saying the put them in their homes and businesses. One of the eye-catching items in the addition to the signage, are the abstract and unusual artwork covered in shiny glass. I love abstract anything, therefore, I was very intrigued. They also had some individuals featured in the pictures with bold and colorful features. Shawn was friendly, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. He asked what I was looking for and took time to point out some potential selections. It was an overall very engaging and pleasant visit. Will definitely drop in again...

The prices on some things seems incredibly capitalist, I see a whole couch for $19.99 which is a great price, but then I'm looking at a pair of shoes for $24.... Where's the relief in that LOL I have to admit they have some pretty good items, but the prices seem greedy. Great customer service! And the price for pottery is fair - less than a few other locations we had looked at (e.g., Miguel's Imports; different review for that despicable man). The fountain was still expensive (~$500), but it is great quality and adds such a wonderful ambiance and beauty to our courtyard. DDs also carries a variety of imported furnishings, a very large selection of talavera, Mexican-inspired kitchenware, etc. We have been back several times since our initial shop to purchase various items over the past 8 months. Lots to look at! The people at Desert Dreams are really nice and helpful. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for at their store they will see if they can order it for you or won't even hesitate to recommend one of their competitors if need be. Highly recommend. There are some things the store does very well, and some areas that are clearly struggling. First, the space is much larger than the previous location. There is plenty of room for merchandise, and they seem to have many kind volunteers working there. The furniture and home goods section is organized fairly well. However, the shelves are extremely packed with merchandise, which may be related to the pricing. Many items feel overpriced for a community thrift store, which likely slows down how quickly things move off the shelves. The layout is also a bit confusing. It almost feels like two completely separate stores. Furniture and home goods are on one side, while clothing is in a different area. What makes it more unusual is that you cannot pay for clothing on the home goods side, or home goods on the clothing side. You also have to go outside to enter each section. It seems like this setup requires twice as many volunteers and makes the shopping experience less convenient. The pricing on the clothing side is actually very good, but the organization is quite poor. I found high-end men's shirts, such as Brooks Brothers, mixed in with women's clothing. There were several other similar examples of items being misplaced, which made browsing more difficult. That in itself told me that one hand knows what the other is doing, and it's obviously really organized. Second, when we went in the thrift store side, it smelled clean. On that side, they were super nice too, and my eBay purchase pick up was super smooth. Purchases that you make their go toward providing food for people who need services from the food pantry. Even the eBay purchases go toward that. I feel better about a purchase if something good comes out of it for somebody else too. That's important to me and my family.
