04/04/26 - This afternoon I was on my way up to the northern suburbs to pick up my older sister that is visiting from the east coast & currently staying w/my younger sister. I stopped in @ Chalet Nursery for a brief look as spring is here. What I found is a very nice nursery w/an assortment of items needed to do spring planting, landscaping materials & an assortment of seeds, plants, planters, gardening tools & fertilizers.... Basically almost anything you need to start or enhance a garden. They also have an area on the north end where they have a glass enclosed area. Just a quick note to say that chalet is still killing it. I came several times throughout the past season and it's always a visual feast to explore. Also, they do incredible sales after Christmas, so my neighbors and I were all able to pick up a few goodies at a massive discount (one commented that she's all set on gifts for next Christmas lol). A few years ago I got a Christmas cactus for an insanely low price at their sale on a discount shelf and it is still alive and kicking! I'm excited for them to get set up for spring and to attend some of their free classes and lectures for the new year. There's something for everyone here. read more

We were in the area and stopped in to get some ideas for an upcoming landscaping project. We are still in the planning phases and it was helpful to review the options available. They had a variety of trees, shrubs and plants even though it is early in the season. They were well arranged and easy to identify. They also have a very large retail shop that has garden items, housewares, candles, plants, unique gifts and so much more. Avoid this place, they run their business like a circus - staff who have little experience and virtually NO expertise. In fact they hadn't even heard of the plants we were looking for (we were looking for common shrubs, perennials and trees) and were clueless trying to find where the plants were located. In what universe does a reputable business hire a bunch of sales people who are absolutely ignorant about what they're selling and let them loose on customers? Simply gorgeous! I knew Chalet had plants, but I didn't know they had so much more! Houseplants, housewares, candles, gifts, clothes.... I could have happily wandered through here for hours...and then gone outside to see what they had out there. It's not spring yet, so I'm sure in a few weeks there will be much more. This review is for the store. It is a garden wonderland. The products are all great quality. We got our tree there, wreathes and a ree other. They have a lady who hand makes bows for decoration and they were so beauriful! It was very easy to drop a lot of money but the stuff was incredible quality. If you are willing to do things yourself (like make your own centerpieces for example or tie own bows), it can be cheaper. I am also so impressed with the customer service. They also have a ton of employees around and they are incredibly helpful and ent One less star because I feel it can be a little overpriced. read more

The best for everything ! Spring, summer, winter or fall. What I absolutely love about Chalet is their Christmas tree selection. We have been able to have 10 foot plus, beautiful trees every year. They deliver set up and will take them away for a fee. This makes Christmas so easy !!! I came back to find Danuta Jacobson, your Sales Associate, because she previously created a beautiful silk flower arrangement. She explained what she was doing while she did it and I very much appreciated learning from her. So I sought her out again when I wanted a table arrangement. I brought my vase with a few flowers I had previously purchased and asked for her help. She asked for the table perspective so I showed her a few pictures and she began building the arrangement to meld with the Winslow Homer print on the opposite wall. I've passed by Chalet many a time whilst driving through the suburbs, but never had a reason to stop in. Their primary business is in landscaping and selling supplies for yards and plants, and having not much of a yard and never having plants that I didn't kill before about six months ago I didn't have a need to stop by. Now that I'm a plant mom, I needed to think about where to pick up some pots since I prefer permanent pots to nursery pots. For some reason, however, (nice, reasonably priced) pots with drainage holes seem to be tough to find. Chalet happened to be having a sale when I was looking, so I bought a couple new plants and several pots. They were out of a couple ones I wanted, but I still ended up with three pots. Now to get my girls into their new homes! Pickup was quick and easy. I did curbside pickup (this review is being written in August 2021, and I made my purchases about two weeks ago). They have a couple designated spots for curbside, and you simply text your order number to the telephone number they provide and they'll bring it out. Easy peasy. They have a nice variety of pots, which as I mentioned have been a struggle to find (and out of the six I'd tried to order, they were out of three of them), so I am sure to be checking their website periodically to pick up some more beautiful pots (if not a new plant baby or two). read more

they should have done what they said they were going to do.I.e., deliver on the committed day, at a reasonable time, follow up on time frames, scheduling updates, and or postponements and respond to inquiries in a timely manner. Never able to speak to anyone live about questions and limited, random, or no follow up to my emails. several email and/or voicemail message attempts over the course of several days with inquiries and request for follow up left. Typically no response. Said they could remove XMas tree on 1/2 or 1/3 and then went silent, waited all day (each day) and no one came. No call, no anything. Original removal date was 1/5 but was told they would accommodate the dates mentioned above per my request because the tree was dead and very dried out. Called and left a message that they were a no show, wanting to speak to a manager. Someone left a message back saying now scheduled for 1/6. Just awful and unacceptable. Already pre-paid for XMas tree delivery , set up and removal plus purchased the Xmas tree itself. Have been a loyal customer but save yourself the money and extreme hassle if you are looking to have assistance with Christmas tree delivery, set up , and removal. Not worth it. Plus the lack of follow up and communication proves that they really don't care. read more

Anyone using a tax-exempt, beware, you have to have previously set up a tax-exempt account-how would you know before you got there? One more company adding layers of unnecessary red tape. I work for NU and we can not pay sales tax on our NU corporate cards. So I had to charge on my personal card and eat the sales tax, nice hey? All over Evanston, Wilmette, Skokie and beyond they accept our tax exempt, will not be going here ever again. read more

I went Chalet today. First time in years. I was led to the garden entrance and asked if I was here for the event? I replied no just to shop. I was not aware of an event and I was given no explanation and let in through the garden area only to be turned away at the general store area as they said to get in I needed a text message? They want my phone # to shop? I told them I thought this was open to the public and left. I used to love the Chalet as they always had unique items. But this first time visit on a Saturday after not being there in years was very disappointing. Called in and asked if they gave mint the women that answered the phone suggested to come in and look. Was surprised she didn't check. So I came out. Upon entering I asked to use the restroom and was told the restrooms were closed and she suggested I go across the street to Walgreens . Wandered around the store to see someone walking out of the restroom. I saw the women that I asked earlier and asked her about this and she said well I haven't been here over the weekend. They know everything, but they make their expertise accessible. I enjoyed my first visit here. It's very cool that they have appointments, so someone is dedicated to helping you, showing you various plants, understanding the intricacies of your yard setup, and such. We walked around for over an hour with Alex and checked out his suggestions as he showed us them. He listened to what we wanted. I appreciated that he wasn't there to upcharge or take advantage of our lack of botanical knowledge. It is not cheap here, but there are good sales, and he did not hide those from us. It is clear that he was not booked for a full hour, but he wanted to stick around and help us. He has a great sense of humor and knows his stuff. We wound up making some purchases and getting serious knowledge about types of arbor vitae and yew plants. (The only thing I didn't like here is more tongue-in-cheek and related to taste. They seem to love planters that look like sculptures of heads, with empty spaces in the head for plants. Why why why?) As we were about to leave, other people working there told us that there was a little setup with hibiscus rose water/seltzer and ice cream. There was a man playing pleasant guitar songs (I thought the speakers throughout the store had been playing a recording, but I then realized it was his live music, so that is cool). I tried the rose water/seltzer combo and it was nice! All of this was free, just a cute little mini-event they had. read more

No word from Alex or Deborah our first sales person. It's been 7 days. Not a peep. I am Chinese American and my wife is African American. The landscape maintenance team trimmed pine tree branches that I specifically told them not to touch (pine tree branches don't grow back). They trimmed my oak tree without permission in summer (invitation to oak wilt a fatal disease to the tree), and severely trimmed a hibiscus mid bloom (stresses the tree) against my stated request. The person that comes to your home does not communicate directly to the workers. Apparently communication is done through the computer. No site manager started the job. Disappointed would be a huge understatement. read more

WOW! We don't live in this area but I've passed The Chalet my entire life. Finally stopped in with the wife and pooch (yes, they're dog-friendly). We were very impressed with the selection AND quality of the plants. Everything looked healthy and well-presented. The outside nursery was clean with knowledgeable employees eager to help. The inside store was equally as impressive. We spent a lot of time there looking at lawn/patio/gardening equipment and tools. Was surprised they have a pet section for dog and cat food, treats, and supplies. We bought a beautiful, made in the U.S.A. black leather dog leash. Prices may be a bit higher than big box stores, but they cannot match The Chalet's quality of items and service. Never did we feel that we had to weed through junk. Cashiers were friendly and courteous (especially Margaret) and offered to help us with loading our purchases to our car. Fantastic place. And you get what you pay for! read more

This easily could have been a 5 star review. The store is beautiful and immersive. I wanted to buy a fountain, which had a tag of $500. While they were checking if they had it in stock, I went online to search for the same product. I found two different sites that had the same exact product for $370. When I found the employee checking their system, she said she had two in stock, and I looked over at her screen which showed their margin as 57%. I asked her to do a price match on either of the two sites I found. A 57% margin on $500 is $285. At $370, they would still make $155 profit. When the employee asked her manager to do a price match she said: "that's an easy one, no" This experience makes me believe their prices across the board are greatly inflated beyond the need to make a fair profit. read more

This was my first trip to Chalet in my years in the Chicagoland area. I rarely go north of Evanston and so this was a find when we drove by on a way to a party. I stopped by this weekend to check it out. I was focused on getting outdoor plants and did not explore the inside merchandise. I was very impressed and somewhat overwhelmed with the selection! I was looking for Solomon Seal, which they had an abundance of. I was also looking for some lilies-of-the-valley. I ended up walking out with some of each. We were doing our landscaping design and of course we went to chalet because they are reputable and close by. We bought flame Willows in the hope to have a harmonious landscape and some arctic Willows among others. Unfortunately some of our flame willows came mislabeled and we found out a month and some days later that we've got black willows. The nursery did respond but they didn't take into account the economic burden of taking out the black willows! Now we need to pay again our landscaper to install and reorganize the harmonic zen garden that we envisioned. Be careful when shopping here, bring your app to identify the plants. You don't want ever this to happen to you. It's a real not only headache to go and come and call and send pictures etc. Add to all of that the inconvenience of haven't to plant your perennials and possibly having to arrange your plans for your beautiful garden. read more

Moved to HP from SoCal last year and everyone has been raving about Chalet. This review is for the service only, the grounds are beautiful and I was very impressed with the selection. With that being said- I wandered around for about an hour, not one time did anyone greet me or ask me if I needed help. I guess you have to be an old white woman to get any kind of attention there. It's a shame because now I'll have to go shop in the city. Can't see myself spending thousands of dollars there to be treated like that. read more

OMG. I submitted a review several days ago that was less than favorable. The manager contacted me almost instantly and wanted to make amends. His name is Nathan. He is a great guy. I won't bore you with the details, but he was more than fair in making up for my complaint. He also more than earned back a customer. Nathan loves plants and helping people with their designs. I've been a happy Chalet customer for almost 4 decades. They always carry a beautiful array of plant materials and accessories, and care for them with excellent attention. Most importantly, their staff are well educated in the horticultural world, and are always willing to share information and search out answers to just about any plant-related question. Recently, they reminded me why I think so highly of them. I came in with a gnarly problem that I feared couldn't be resolved. They tackled the task quickly and carefully and were able to get a plan in action in record time, having the materials I needed on hand and the personnel lined up for the job. What was a mountain of turmoil for me was just another day for them. They know the horticultural world, they know what keeps it ticking, and they are prepared and willing to do their jobs with dedication and courtesy.
