I don't normally do reviews on big box retailers like this however, in the last week I have met two incredible employees here the first one is Charles, who works in the door area and Isabel, who works in the kitchen remodel area They are both incredibly kind patient nice people who actually explained details to you. It's surprising that both of them know all these details however it is a testament to the years. They have spent here at Home Depot, as well as attributing it to their prior lives before coming to Home Depot. These two people are so honest upfront and Home Depot is lucky to have them quite honestly They actually want to help and they don't shy away from helping. Now, if only Home Depot could figure out a better way to handle installers and vendors and the supply chain, this would be a completely win-win situation read more

So 3 is my average of 3 scores I've given for interaction with HD after a debacle with their change in returns on AC. I bought one end of June & had to wait a week to get help getting it to my apartment. I ended up not being able to use it at all bc the way my window frame is wouldn't allow it to stay in without me drilling a lot of holes. So I struggled to get it down from my apartment still new & in box - unused. It was 10 days at the return attempt. I've been a long time customer at HD & was surprised when they told me 7 days was the new policy. Of course this policy literally changed at the time I purchased and there was no signage notifying of the change when I bought it. So 3 stars is an average of my experience. Broken down it's in order: 1 star for my customer experience in the store with associates who were rude, lied about signage posted (not properly as I took photos), gaslighted me & basically called me a liar when I told them where I got the item in the store, misidentified themselves as a "manager," and uncompromising when they can't possibly understand why a customer is upset about being stuck with a $350 AC they can't use in the midst of a heatwave & had to carry down 3 flights of steps. 1 star for HD CUSTOMER CARE LINE. 1st the number on back of my HD card is for a medical device. 2nd after searching for correct number, the menu is insane. I never got the same menu two times in a row. I got hung up on after calling twice. I had to call 6 times in 2 days. Two call takers were sympathetic and I got told numerous times that a manager would call back & that never happened. I got told they emailed the store manager & he said he spoke with me (that never happened). 5 stars- for my experience with Asst Mngr- Will. After much frustration and feeling like I was going to lose it bc I was stuck with $350 item that prevented me from buying an AC that may actually fit my window, he compromised and came up with a solution which is all I wanted from the start. Thanks, Will and he's exactly the type of people you need in management positions and I hope he's rewarded for his ability to deal reasonably with an unhappy long time customer. *Here's a hint HD if you want to retain long time customers, you don't treat them horribly and you don't try to stick them with unused merchandise they can't use and then can't afford to purchase merchandise in your store that they can use. read more

The people that work here are braindead. Home Depot as a company has the worst workforce under the belt working their stores its embarrassing. Nobody knows anything about running the store, and even after an employee called for a manager over the intercom, it took 10 minutes for anyone to locate one for my check out issue, and the AGM's excuse was "sorry everyone is multi tasking" AS IF THAT IS ANYONE ELSES PROBLEM BUT THEIRS!? Good luck getting a hold of anyone either in store or over the phone, and doubly so if you're inquiring about warranties or installations. I looked into having a major appliance installed, as the way it was advertised and explained to me was that the installers would be from Home Depot, and instead they gave me phone numbers for local companies that were massively overcharging what it should cost for an install job, which was, of course, also way higher than advertised. Every employee in the store is rude and brain dead and there doesn't seem to be any semblance of managerial presence anywhere in there. I'd rather make the drive to a better Home Depot, even if it winds up being farther out of my way. read more

Checking out was an unpleasant adventure. They have one line for all the cashier stations. That would seem to be sensible but it was totally disorganized. There were a fair number or staff, maybe half a dozen, but it was unclear which registers were self checkout. people in line were having trouble figuring out which registers were open. I ended up at a credit only self serve register. While I was checking out I was faced with a video of myself checking out, as if they expected me to be shop lifting. It's a horrible experience to be treated like a criminal for buying something . I won't be going there again, there are plenty of other options. read more

I ordered something for curbside pickup. Got there and checked in via app. Waited for a whole 10min but no one came. I even called the store and no one answers. So I go in and tell them that I'm here for curbside pickup and I was asked to wait in line with customers buying other things from store. Hmmm? That added another 15min. Once it was my turn the lady asks me for my receipt number upon which I tell her, I checked in - you should have it. Turns out they didn't even have the curbside checkin notifications on!! Then she gives my purchase to me to take to my car by myself!! If you can't fulfill curbside pickup - why have it in the first place?? read more

This update is based on my experience buying wood trim for a project: they have a great selection, and unlike my experience at Lowe's in Lincolnwood, their website is actually accurate and tells you which aisle/bin the item is in (see my Lowe's review for that cluster of a mess). I found what I needed, and they have a sawhorse set up so you can cut trim yourself -- I was surprised that they even had a miter box, as I thought that wasn't something they offered to avoid having people doing their full project cutting in the store. I needed to miter the pieces for my project, but I didn't know the exact measurements and had never used a miter box before, so I didn't want to embarrass myself trying to figure it out at 7am on Christmas Eve in the middle of a Home Depot. So instead I just cut the trim to the approximate sizes I needed with some wiggle room to measure it exactly later, and managed to figure out how to use a miter box at home after watching a Youtube tutorial. So, yay for that. Also after my adventures in elementary woodworking (lol), I needed wood filler/putty because the miter saw I was using was like 20 years old and not the most precise. Their website said they didn't carry the kind/stain shade I was looking for, but when I got there the day after Christmas, they did indeed have it. So, that was perfect. And now I have an awesome, handbuilt coffee table. About 5 years ago I also needed a random 1x4 (or maybe 1x6?) for a single shelf to fill the gap between my fridge and my wall, and one of their staff members used the power saw setup to cut that for me. That was also an easy peasy process. For my future random wood project needs, I'll definitely come here rather than Lowe's. read more

If I could give a zero to this store I would. I bought a washer machine and their delivery men were not able to install it. I cancelled the order because the washer machine water hose was not compatible with my tub. I tried to purchase a part for the hose and was told they didn't have it in stock until December. I called right away and cancelled the order and was told over the phone they would pick it up which they never did I called their toll free number multiple times within 4 days. I was told I had not called within the time frame of 48 hours which I had. On Friday September 26 I went to the store on Oakton and spoke to the salesman that sold me the washer machine lets call him by his first initial J and his manager, and he told me the problem would be resolved by the following day, for me to wait for his call the next day. He never called, so I went to the store and he wasn't working ANOTHER LIE! I had to call their corporate office with my lawyer on the other line and threaten them because they were taking advantage of a senior. This was the only way I was able to have them pick it up from my house after 13 days of me calling. What an awful experience. I will never purchase anything from this company. read more

It's a big box hardware store and the pricing is good for the most part. But that's not my issue. I bought 2 window ac units from the Oakton location and needed an installer. So I used the "Pro Referral" service. The bids I got back were between $300/$400 dollars and any material were extra. That's just plain banditry. Had the most amazing experience yesterday at Home Depot. I was working on a little DIY project for the home and needed advice on lumber and how to achiever the desired results. I went to the lumber area and the man working there at 1:00PM was the most knowledgeable and helpful I've ever experienced. He helped me pick out the least expensive 2 x4s and a piece of plywood and then gave me much needed advice on how to accomplish the project using only the one piece of plywood, cut all the wood to the correct size and then even walked me over to the hardware area to get the correct drill bit, bolts & nuts. Once home every thing was cut perfectly and the project was accomplished with only one trip to Home Depot.... that has to be a record!! read more

I bought a refrigerator from home depot and got the extended warranty. I called them because I have an issue with the ice machine and cooling fan. I made an appointment a week out on Friday between 8-12 and know body showed up or called.Lg costumer service said basically said it's not there problem. For a facility that has it all, the self checkout is a great way to effectively keep order during busy hours.Staff is visible when you need assistance and I've never had to wait in a line with bulky items. Getting items to your vehicles are swift. There's always parking available. read more

I visited here after a not super great visit to the Lowes down McCormick and I was happily greeted by everything I'd expect from Home Depot - lots of employees roaming the aisles who are ready to help people if they have questions. Prices were good, but I admit I didn't do a thorough sweep of the store. Their holiday stuff focused mostly on lights and fake trees even though last year I feel like they had a lot of fun battery operated toys like a reindeer and singing llama. Purchased a Samsung top load washer, with installation and haul away. First delivery attempt, said that the water hook ups were too corroded, after I fixed those, installation was rescheduled. 20 hours before rescheduled delivery and installation, they cancelled my order without my consent. I was told to re-order the washer, pay again and wait for a refund. When the washer finally arrived they told me that the new washer's drain hose is too short and refused to install it, but kept the $29 installation fee. They didn't even put it in place and level it, they just dumped it in the middle of the laundry room, handed me the hoses, and left. Worst major appliance purchase ever! read more

Needed landscape timbers. Saw that I could order online and have curbside delivery right my vehicle for no additional cost. Sounds great! Here's what happened. I clicked the link in a Home Depot text to indicate I was there. While a web page loaded, the center area was dark with an endlessly moving orange circle. It never finished loaded and certainly seemed like an error. I saw Home Depot employees in the parking lot. The first one walked away saying she didn't know how it all worked. The second employee said "don't worry, they know you're here" even though I told him it seemed like the notification app wasn't loaded (and he never bothered to look at my phone to see what I was described). When he returned to the store, he obviously didn't mention to anyone that there was someone waiting outside. Well of course no one knew I was there. So I walked inside to the pick up desk. The woman looked up my order and paged someone. I went back to my car and 5 - 10 minute later my order was brought to me. My SUV is new and this is the first time hauling anything (landscape timbers, not heavy, but 8' long). I mentioned this to the person who brought the timbers and said I would help him load. He was at the rear of my SUV and I was at the open side door to insure the timbers didn't hit the side or front seat. As he was loading, he grabbed a timber and managed to bang it into the interior of the open hatch door over his head. Luckily no damage, but completely due to carelessness (the timbers are not heavy). So the quick and convenient curbside delivery (yes that was sarcasm) took over 20 minutes. I could have gone into the store, loaded my own cart, purchased the timbers and been on my way quicker. Also - the guy loading my car was the only employee I interacted with who was in street clothes and not a Home Depot vest. He was not using gloves to pick up the timbers (risk of splinters, not a safe practice) and was, I think wearing gym shoes (when loading and unloaded, steel toed boots would be a better choice). All these are easy errors to fix. 1). The relevant website needs to be fixed so it loads properly 2). All employees (especially those that work in the parking lot) need basic training to answer questions on how curbside delivery works 3). Some training in how to carefully carry and load would be beneficial. 4). People loading and unloading vehicles should have proper safety gear read more

I went to Home Depot because usually they have pretty good prices. I went on this occasion to see about purchasing a dryer. I saw online, the Samsung was cheaper at other stores like Sears and Best Buy. A lady sales associate came by and said, "we don't match prices with outlets." Okay, then what about Best Buy? She disappeared. And I walked out. About a week ago, I came to this same home depot with my contractor and realtor to look at flooring for a condo I purchased. An older lady in the flooring department helped us. At first, we found her information knowledgeable, however when we inquired about the contractor discount, she didn't know Home Depot policy. When we inquired about waterproof flooring, she didn't know her product. The contractor who has been in the business over 40 years, was also dissatisfied with her services. read more

What in the world is going on with this location? I'm so used to the Lincoln location leaving much to be desired, but your location in Evanston has been way more professional up until this point. I got an order for a curbside pickup and received an alert that it was ready. I'm already outside walking my dog and think, "Great, I'll pick it up now." I get to the store; clearly identify my car color, make and model in a curbside parking spot; and wait. Then I get this random confirmation to thank me for picking up my order, but no one has come to my car. I start looking around to see if someone else has my order. About four minutes later, I see a young lady (early 20s maybe) walk out and stand by a car that is nowhere near the color of my car nor the make nor the model. It wasn't even a car; it was a van. I wave my hand to get her attention. She then stands at the BACK of my car and reaches her hand in to pet my dog. WTH? I would never not ever reach my hand into anyone's car to touch their dog without permission before COVID-19, so I'm definitely not doing it afterward. She tells me that my item cannot be found. I tell her that I shouldn't have gotten an alert that it was ready if that was the case nor confirmation that it was picked up. And then I reached into the backseat to move my dog toward my arm and away from her hands. I tell her to walk a few feet up to me in the driver's seat (y'know, the consumer who bought the item and just found out she may need a refund) and she asks for the order number. Another Home Depot worker walks over to her to tell her where to look for the item. She goes back into the store. I shake my head and roll that window up altogether. In the event my dog tried to bite her when she put her hand to the window, that would've legally been on me (I think?). But WHY would you do that anyway? She comes back out with the item. No explanation. No apology. Just randomly has the item that she claimed wasn't there. I point to my trunk and tell her it was already open (which she would've known if she didn't beeline for my dog instead of actually looking at the parking spot, make, model and color of my car). She then walks toward the same window but now sees the window is completely up. I shake my head. This was so unprofessional. I'll just physically walk in the store or go to another location instead. I've actually never had this curbside assistance problem at Lincoln. read more

I am not the type to complain but this was a truly awful experience. On 4/3 I purchased a new washer/dryer and a new fridge. They scheduled my delivery for Monday 5/9. That day, only the fridge could be delivered because I was told I didn't order a stacking kit for the washer/dryer. It was displayed stacked in store and I was never even offered the chance to purchase a stacking kit-how would I even know as a first time buyer? So they took it back, I went to order a stacking kit that day and my new delivery date was today, 5/14. The same gentlemen came to deliver and I was told that I needed longer gas/water lines, why wasn't that told to me back on 5/9? They then said I could go purchase it while they went on lunch and to call them when I was back (less than 20 min) as their next delivery was 3 minutes away. When I tried calling and texting as told, my phone number was blocked. So now I have my current washer/dryer pulled out of its place and the new washer and dryer taking up my very small kitchen space. I called customer service and was completely written off as this being my fault when it's a company's job to make sure all parts needed are included for a successful delivery, especially when I'm willing to pay for it. Rented a van the associate just opened the doors and said the is no garbage we expect it back the same way. I drove off thought nothing of it. When I got to my destination and started loading merchandise I realized there was oil all over the floor and on the back step. I was 4 hours away. Couldn't just turn around and get another one. I had to load my boxes like that and they all got wet with oil. When I spoke to the manager he said he would look into it and call me back. Finally after a few days he said the operations manager wouldn't do anything about it since I signed and received the van that way. Then I called her directly and she just said the same thing. I signed and it's my fault for not rubbing my fingers on the floor to check it was clean. (Obviously I added the rubbing) WOW GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE... Please note the sarcasm. This is a complaint toward one employee at the registers who spent a long time chatting with the customer ahead of us in line (there were people behind me). All along I thought she was waiting for a price check or something because she was on a screen where something needed to be entered. Then I realized she just needed the man's name or something and they still didn't hurry it up seeing others were in line and I asked that they please move along because more customers were waiting. Menards, you loose on this one. I went to the Menrads by me and found they weren't open yet! Aghhh! Why can't the world operate on MY time! Who needs sleep? It's such a waste of time! (I'm only kidding, of course). So, I thought, I'll hit Home Depot near my school and get that spray paint, (I had already used five cans and had run out... and school hasn't even started yet). I noticed that the price is nearly a dollar more than Menards so I'm kicking myself that I didn't go the night before... I go to the service desk and ask if they might honor the price tag from Menards; and she does! SCORE! ...And to boot she gives me 10% off after I explained that I'm an art teacher trying to cut corners, (refurbishing some used canvas board), because I was anticipating my budget being less than the previous year. What happened to the Christmas tree experience here? Ever since junior year of college, I've gotten all of my Christmas trees at this Home Depot. They were always fresh, quality trees at by far the lowest prices around. There was an efficient crew of guys to trim the trunk and branches, zip it through the netting device, and even help you to carry and tie the thing to your car if desired. After a two-year hiatus I returned this evening to find...none of that. There were hardly any trees and most of the selection was dreadful. Yet prices have shot way up. And the service? Well, what service? There was one guy who hid in his little shack refusing to do anything but man the register. He called twice for another employee to come out to the garden section, but in the meantime he explained, "He too cold, so he not come right away." Huh? You think HE's cold--what about the customers standing around out here for fifteen minutes? By the time the guy showed up, we were stacked about six deep, all waiting for a tree trim and netting. With that kind of wait, forget about helping me to tie it to my car; I was just happy to get my tree and get the hell out. Too bad it was the coldest night of the winter so far and my fingers went numb from ten minutes of looping and knotting twine around the tree atop the roof of my car. Maybe they wouldn't have been so cold to start with if I hadn't been forced to stand around in the shelterless garden section for fifteen minutes. On top of everything else, the garden section was half-dark. Do they even want any customers out there? Between that and the meager selection, the tree with which I ended up is pretty deformed. Er, I mean, "it has a lot of character." Humbug. So...a crummy selection of trees, no longer competitive prices, and indifferent to nonexistent service...sadly, I may break a long tradition and shop around for trees next year. read more

I actually like this place! I'm totally NOT a construction-hands on-projects-person- but there's something fascinating about remodeling. Stopped in today to pick up mod podge (they only had industrial size) and felt stickers to make coasters (small projects to start with)- and I love how helpful and friendly everyone at HD is. Even when people didn't know what I wanted (mod podge is more of an art-n-crafts sealant)- they made sure to direct me to those who did. In fact with such a huge store- the employees were super impressive by knowing exactly what aisle the felt stickers were! I would love to spend more time roaming around and learning about paint primers and granite types next time! They also have food and plenty of parking! They also sell household products like swifter supplies and laundry essentials. Oh and I really like their household plant section as well! read more

Very, very poor customer service until Demetrius saved the day! Walked into the store, it wasn't crowded, and assumed it would only take a few minutes to get a key cut. Wrong! First of all, there's a sign warning you the key cutting area is NOT self service. But it doesn't tell you how to get anyone's help there. I went to the customer svc desk, where a woman tells me she'll notify someone right away. Wrong! Waiting, waiting, waiting, notify service desk again, more waiting waiting waiting, now I ask to speak with the store manager. But he is not willing to speak with me. Finally, Demetrius saw me standing around, asked me if I needed help, cut the two keys, and very intelligently gave me a discount. read more

I always call before going to a store to make sure that the product(s) I need are actually stock, as it's a 15 minute drive away. I try to avoid Home Depot because every time I call I have the same experience: Long menu Finally someone answers I say what I want and they transfer me Nobody answers It returns to the original person "Sorry, they didn't pick up." Repeat After 2-4 tries and nobody picking up I call Lowes, whose staff actually answer the phone and answer my question. Always. I am writing this while waiting. I don't know why I bother, other than they are 2-3 minutes closer. I think I am finished with Home Depot. The management at Home Deport should go shop at Lowes to learn how to run a store. read more
