I went to see Joane Chamberlain for some low back issues. She did a fantastic assessment and diagnosed me with a very tight quadratus lumborum that was altering my hip and pulling me into an up slip position. The pain was horrendous. She did some manual work on me, gave me fantastic exercises and stretches to do and I am 100% cured. I don't have any low back pain any longer. She is an absolute, maestro with the lumbar pelvic hip complex .. I highly recommend her for all your physical therapy needs. She's given me my life back ! Jones ability to diagnose and get to the cause of pain is extremely effective. She helped me treat athletic injuries and gave me very challenging physical therapy exercises that are appropriate for ultimate frisbee players and CrossFitters. Obviously she treats patients at all different levels and ages. Her processes are logical and based in science. She's one of the most intelligent and hard-working practitioners I've met. Also she's not the kind of therapist that wants to keep her patients coming back over and over. Stabilizing with exercise treatments and receiving manual therapy at Challenge PT has increased my strength and mobility... After my knee cap continued to pop out of joint, which was extremely painful, my chiropractor referred me to "Joane at Challenge PT", as a "knee specialist," who fixed the chiropractor's knee. Ten years ago I was fortunate to be referred to Joane Chamberlain of Challenge Physical Therapy. For the preceding two years, I had been trying without luck to find relief from an annoying, distracting pain radiating from my right shoulder. Like many people my work involves sitting at a computer for eight or more hours a day, so I attributed the pain to poor posture, a lack of exercise, and poor work place ergonomics. Attempting to find relief, I began going to a gym, and I got a good office chair. I sought out a D.O.(doctor of osteopathy) as my general physician because of the emphasis on the musculoskeletal system in the D.O. training. Rather than treating me with traditional osteopathic manipulation treatment, he sent me to a sports medicine doctor who did some nerve testing on my right arm. The diagnosis showed everything was normal with no nerves blocked in my arm, and no carpal tunnel syndrome. Physical therapy was recommended, but with no improvement after a few months, I gave up. Next, I was referred to a psychologist. The initial consultation was enough for me. I decided to find a chiropractor on my own. The chiropractic office I chose was shared by 2 doctors. After several months, the doctor treating me retired due to a bad back! That was discouraging, but I continued the chiropractic treatment with remaining doctor. A few months into the treatment, the doctor asked if the treatments were helping. Honestly, I told him, they were only providing temporary relief. That's when he recommended his physical therapist, Joane. Feeling a mixture of skepticism and desperation, I made an appointment. During the first visit, Joanne diagnosed a misaligned pelvis as the likely cause of my shoulder pain. She explained the concept of pelvic stabilization. This was the first time I had heard the term. She went through some manipulation to alleviate the pelvic misalignment, and I immediately felt the shoulder pain begin to ease. The immediate effect gave me hope that I was finally in the care of a knowledgeable, qualified health care provider. Over the next few months of therapy and prescribed home exercises, the pain receded as my body strengthened. I remained pain free for 10 years. With the pain gone, complacency set in, and I stopped exercising. Last year I began having pain again in my right shoulder. The pain felt different from than the pain of 10 years ago, so I didn't immediately associate it with a misaligned pelvis. One week last November, the pain accelerated to the point that my arm became completely immobile. I called Joanne, and she diagnosed calcific tendonitis along with a misaligned pelvis. X-rays from an orthopedic surgeon confirmed Joane's diagnosis for the tendonitis, and Joane's treatment is working once again. There are so many things wrong with Challenge Physical Therapy that I do not even know where to begin. But I really want to focus on the big things to protect people that may end up at this facility. This facility and the Physical Therapy practice is extremely outdated. I never knew how far behind Challenge Physical Therapy was until I had a chance to go somewhere else. I spent a lot of time at Challenge spinning my wheels, but I thought it was normal and that my slow progress was described by the Physical Therapist as part of "the process". Once I realized that the Physical Therapist was a witch doctor and was making things up (read further) is when I decided to try another Physical Therapy office - if you are currently using Challenge I recommend that you do the same. Working out alone: After several visits I rarely spent time with the actual Physical Therapist (there is only one). Often the Physical Therapist would be seeing another patient in another room leaving me to do my work on my own. I got injured several times again and again because of this. I ended up having to go to a new provider for care. That was one of the smartest choices I ever made after months of being at this facility. Just know that I immediately had measurable results at another Physical Therapy place right up the street. The Physical Therapist has some made up practice about hip alignment. I did several control tests to prove my case. The Physical Therapist will keep telling you need to return based on your hips being level or not, my "hips" would not level regardless of the work I was doing. There are these weird stretches that the Physical Therapist would have me do in a chair to make my hips "more aligned" for my spine. I would pretend to do them to see if that was really working or if the Physical Therapist had no idea what they were talking about - of course the Physical Therapist would say your hips are great, but I knew I did not do the stretches. In addition, I would do all my stretches and hip alignment work before coming in, the Physical Therapist would look at me and say "I can tell you did not do your homework because your hips are off" - but I did everything perfectly. One day I decided to not do any of the exercises, I told the Physical Therapist that I had done my stretches (when in fact I did not), the Physical Therapist said my hips look perfect and to keep it up, but later that day they were off again according to the Physical Therapist. This is when I knew that I was stuck with a witch doctor and not a real Physical Therapist. Instant Results Anywhere Else: I went to another Physical Therapist office following these events, and within just a few weeks, I was more mobile then I have ever been and was released because of progress. It appeared to me that Challenge Physical Therapy interests are to keep you there until they believe your hips are "level", which if you read above is just a way to keep you coming back. I am glad the office posted this type of response below. It shows the characteristics of this company. I am not going to spend the time to tell readers how many holes are in the response and what twists are included. In addition, by disclosing billing information shows that she is willing to break HIPPA laws. My retort to her response is simple, I am not going to pay a bill to someone that did not meet their end of the deal. I do hope other people have different experiences and glad to see other posts here that offer a positive perspective. My mom referred me to Joane after she experienced amazing results with just a couple of visits. I've had neck issues for the last 10 years and the pain comes and goes. I've tried several different therapists in different cities and states and I've had the most success by far with the help of Joane. She was able to diagnose my problem right away and I instantly felt better once she started working on aligning my pelvis. The at home exercises she prescribes really make a difference and allow me to continue to run and hike with no issues. Joane saved my back! She understands more about the back and the way the whole body is affected by the back than any other PT I know. Seriously- there are so many patients in her office who have been to multiple PTs, been through multiple surgeries, seen lots of doctors and haven't found relief until they found Joane. I had herniated two disks playing tennis a few years ago and she fixed me through hands on physical therapy and a set of customized exercises for me to do at home. Two years later I am still doing the exercises at home to keep my back strong and am pain free. I finally found relief for my back after two years of pain. Joane Chamberlain P.T. and M.O.M.T, knows how to find root cause of people's pain. I went to great chiopractors in the area but they couldn't help. A few great acupunturists offered no relief either. My former P.T. helped a little after a year of twice a week visits, but Joane Chamberlain has helped me the most. She understands the root of patients issues then she trains you how to address the pain and heal. I'm 50% better after a few months and she's helping me understand regeneration of my discs over time.
