This place is a bit tucked away, but it's a great place to go for comics, wargaming, and magic the gathering. We had some family come in from out of town and we went to challenges for a MTG pre release. The staff was very welcoming and kind and helped facilitate an experience that was fun for us and newbies and for some of the hardcore guys and gals at the event. And the people who showed up to play were friendly too! It's a nice place with good vibes. Would highly recommend checking them out. read more

Wow! We have officially found our board game home to buy new games during COVID times and beyond, 100%. From start to finish, it was super easy to order on the website and to see what games were actually in stock or not. Then, when we saw the price of local delivery, it was so affordable that I figured it must take the games a few days - a week to ship to my house (which I was fine with), but as everyone else has stated, they deliver SAME DAY straight to my apartment. Challenges is a great game shop with lots of inventory and they are quick to order anything else that my gaming friends and I have requested. The owner and staff are experienced gamers and always helpful. There is lots of table space in the back to handle larger events. Tucked on the backside of North DeKabl mall, this store in the new home to Stone Mountain's Dragon Horde. If you're in looking for specific comic you maybe out of luck. They have a good range of new floppies with a few new trades, but the section is small. There are better places to buy comics near by. This is a good store for game though. Mostly inventory is gear to magic, but yugioh, DBZ and some other games have events too. Single sales most to be almost entirely MTG base though. The side case near the door has some nice hero clicks too. There is not too much in the way of board games, but the classics are there. The room for play is great. It open and easy to get around. There is a high table in the back for miniatures. But we warned that Friday night magic runs 50+ and I will be full (with parents having to wait outside). The rest of the store is shirts and other neat geeky accessories. There is a corner with some pin up art and figures. Some older Play Arts Kai can be found there. read more

This store has pretty much anything you need. Very friendly staff that has been helpful as I'm learning to paint miniatures. Sadly, the owner can be rude to customers when they aren't spending money. I dropped by to play Dungeons and Dragons recently and bought several things before we began playing. When the owner showed up later he snidely told us we needed to move so actual customers can spend money. I was shocked. I couldn't believe a store owner would talk to potential customers that way. I've easily spent hundreds of dollars in that store. Unfortunately, this is one of the only options in this area for comics and collectibles. read more

Like a previous reviewer mentioned, they took a pre-order for an item they did not have and still charged my card. It's been nearly a MONTH and he still has not refunded my card. I had to take up the charges with my cc company because this store has not even responded to my requests to refund me for something they never even had in stock in the first place. DO NOT order from this dishonest store. read more

This is a GREAT comic and games shop place in North Dekalb Mall. Friendly staff. Lots of different comics and games/gaming supplies here. Reasonable prices and lots of parking (the store is right next to the food court). People were playing here as well, and it seems like a great atmosphere for anyone interested in comics and gaming. read more

I like Tony, and I really want to like Challenges, but the place has turned into amateur hour. I recently got back to playing Magic with a bunch of friends, and I've been going to Friday Night Magic events and prereleases for the past 2 years now. At Challenges, prerelease is chaos. Tony doesn't order kits in excess (I can't really blame him for it... they'd sit for months on shelves) so you basically HAVE to preorder a kit if you want to play. When the prerelease events actually start, there is 0 order to pairing distribution or pooling. The same is true for FNM standard and draft nights. A doe-eyed employee just runs around with pairings in hand, instead of posted them on a wall somewhere. No drop sheets, no table numbering, just madness. This Saturday, I decided to go buy a booster box of Battle for Zendikar. I typically buy through Amazon, but all the prime vendors are out of stock. I checked Challenges stock online, saw that they had 12 left. So I drove to Challenges. The clerk informed me that they were out of BFZ boxes, I told her that I saw them online, and they looked at me like they had never heard of the website. They checked the back stock, and verified that 0 were actually in stock. However, they did have a BFZ fatpack in stock. Which was hilarious, because the website lists 0 fatpacks in stock. I just checked the site again, still says they have 12 in stock. Unreal UPDATE: Tony DM'd me and basically said it was my fault for not pre-ordering. Blames the site inaccuracy on it being release weekend (it wasn't). Site STILL shows 12 booster boxes in stock. read more

Spent about $70 in here on free comic book day (on my first visit to this store). Owner talked trash about me and my friend (b/c he was on a limited budget but found great books in the $1 bin) thinking we were gone but we were still shopping there. I was planning to come back and drop some serious $$ on back issues in here. I called out the owner and told him he should wait to talk about his customers until after they leave... and then walked out. Customer service means something to both me and my friend. Very disappointed. read more

I'm glad this store opened, because I'm into graphic novels and games. BUT all the comics and graphic novels are sealed. To see the art, you have to take them one by one to the counter for them to open for you. Since I buy based on art, sadly the store is useless to me because that's just too time consuming. And frankly, annoying. But I do wish them luck. read more

It's hard for me to rate this store, because I can never seem to get in. The one time I managed to go when they were open it was fine. But they apparently closed early one Sunday when I swing by and then their sign says "by appointment only" on Tuesday. Maybe I'll have a better review if I can get in there, because I'd love to be able to buy board games locally during the day instead of ordering them on Amazon. read more

This is the first experience as a customer that has ever moved me to write such a negative review. The man at the counter, who I can only assume is the owner, decided to inexplicably argue with myself and my significant other on ethical pricing structures, and openly supported jacking up his merchandise past MSRP, while deriding stores that had the gall to offer their customers discounts. If that's how he wants to treat his customers that's fine, but I will never visit his store again, and I would urge others to do the same. That he would openly and publicly start an argument with a customer is ridiculous enough, but that he should brag about his proclivity to mark up his merchandise to a potential customer, in front of other customers shows a remarkable amount of disrespect towards his client base. read more
