Okay so, i don't see any reviews of recent but, i have been consistently going to this comic book store since 2020. Probably my favorite comic book store in Atlanta. My pull list is always ready and i can pay before i come in. Gives me more time to pick out anything else i would like to add. They keep a great stock. I appreciate the staff's customer service as well when i do need to ask if something is in or when a book will actually release. Great team! read more

I'd give it JUST sub-4 stars (maybe about 3.9, if I could--I know, that's rather particular) Super extensive collection of manga, comic books, and graphic novels, but it often feels like they are missing exactly what I want. When I look for a particular omnibus volume of a comic book or graphic novel? Seems like they don't have it in stock. When I am looking for a particular tankoban of a manga? Seems like they are missing the one I want there, too. That being said, the selection is insanely extensive, so maybe I just have bad luck. And they always offer to order anything that I am looking for. A few times, items the website claims are in stock are not, which can be a bit frustrating. Again, they always offer to order it for me. All that being said, I know I'll be back anyway :-D it's a great place to peruse and get lost for a bit, and even when they don't have what I go in looking for, I always leave with something new that I probably wouldn't have discovered otherwise. read more

For the older gray hair pony tail white guy ( rude, dismissive, could be pegged as racist or phobic) surface level bottom customer service. For the younger POC, did not speak, or offer assistance, simply pointed the way, for an item. The direction was vague. I decided to look for it myself, then a realization, I asked 2 men for help and they offered none, why should I spend my money here. Then when confronted, the bearded worker with black hair who was unboxing items found my unpleasant experience funny. It seems like brick and mortar bookstores are becoming obsolete and bookstores that specialize in comics are even rarer. Even though I'm a grown man, I still enjoy reading graphic novel comic books. I've never outgrown them and I don't think I ever will. So you can imagine my joy when I received a $50 Oxford Comics & Games gift card from friends as a Christmas present. Oxford Comics is located on 2855 Piedmont Road, near the Buckhead district of Atlanta. It is about a four block walk from the Lindberg MARTA transit station but you can also catch bus 5 from that station to get there. Some of the surrounding businesses are a Mercedes Benz dealership, a place called the Actor's Centre and is directly across the street from The Werner Law Firm. Oxford is a throwback to the comic book stores of years past. When you enter, there are comic books on the walls and on shelves in the middle of the store. The books are divided in sections based on whether they're DC, Marvel, etc. There are super hero collectibles for your desktop, bobbleheads, t-shirts, posters, graphic novels, and there's even a section that has hentai dvds (if that's what you're into). The store is clean and has that fresh comic book smell. When I went this past Friday (December 29, 2017), there was a black guy and a white guy working there and both were polite and helpful. I was looking for the Miracle Man graphic novel written by my favorite comic book writer, the eccentric Alan Moore. The Miracle Man that I found didn't have his name on it. Without the employee's help, I would never have known that the reason why the book's author was quoted as "the original writer" is that Moore had quarreled with the publishing comic book company and as a result refused to let them put his name on the cover even though he wrote it. Moore is a brilliant writer but is prone to diva-ish antics at times. I'm thankful for the fact that Oxford employs true comic book nerds who understand the value of what they're selling. I entered with a list of graphic novels I was interested in and found nearly all of them there. The employees even offered to order the books I didn't find. Besides the cleanliness of the store, the available selections, and the excellent customer service, I also like the hours of operation. Oxford is open 10 am - 10 pm Mondays-Saturdays and 11 am - 7 pm on Sundays. About the only things I can criticize about this store is that I didn't see many books on sale, though most of the posters were on sale for 50% off. It's no big deal though, because a comic book store can't stay in business by putting everything on sale. I'm rating Oxford Comics & Games five stars and will most certainly be back. read more

Opened the last bag purchased and the bags are defective - have some kind of stipe running through them. When I called the store to ask about replacing them I was told that since it's a manufacturer's defect there is nothing they can do for me. PARENTS BEWARE: this store has an 18+ section out in the open with pornography on the display shelves. I went on a day trip with a sibling to buy some manga and see what was in stock. We're both young adults so it didn't exactly bother us, more so we were just kind of wondering why they wouldn't separate this kind of thing off from the marvel comics right near it. It's right next to some marvel and DC selections CLEARLY aimed at young boys which was even more off putting. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place if you're adverse to your son or daughter accidentally picking up an XXX parody of their favorite superhero series. If I was a parent I would totally understand not wanting to visit this place with my child. Other than that the selection was very nice. They had all kinds of manga up to the latest volumes, lots of cool indie comics, old toys, old marvel comics, and even VHS and DVDs of old anime. From bleach to black cat they had everything! The staff was also pretty nice, helping me find what I was looking for if I had a hard time and they were pretty responsive to my questions. The owner of this comic store is very lucky to have such amazing staff who care so much about the customers, cleanliness and overall presentation and feel of the comic book store! I am able to get all of the manga stuff for my kids and all of the latest Marvel and DC issues and variant covers of all my favorite comics! Again Zach is an amazing guy, David is an amazing guy, Jason is an amazing guy and they make the experience special! I remember passing by this place a couple of years ago while in Atlanta for a business trip. I finally made it in today and I was so disappointed by my experience. Here's the thing, the store itself is actually really nice. There's tons of space and lots of inventory. For me, I just cannot stand being ignored at a shop and this place was another in a long line of them. I walked in and Robert was at the front desk. Saw me, and...nothing. Oxford Comics can spawn spontaneous nerdgasms in those predisposed towards arguments like "Superman vs. the Hulk?," "fast vs. slow zombies?" and "when, oh when will I ever lose my virginity?" I kid. I kid because I love and I love to be a kid. I love the wide selection of new releases. They even keep some of the more recent back issues up in those racks for those who've neglected to feed their fix on the alloted Wednesdays. The books aren't bagged as other stores might do, allowing you to make sure you don't accidentally end up buying the same issue of Blue Beetle two months in a row like some hypothetical person may have done, who then ends up bitterly writing about it on yelp.com a couple of months later. The rest of the store is a lesson in geek culture. Need the latest, obscure variant Elseworld's Aquaman action figure? Then this is your place. If you understood what those words meant individually, but not necessarily placed in that specific order, then move along. There's anime, manga, and hentai (oh my!) So if you like your characters badly dubbed, your eyes unnaturally large, and your tentacles kind of freaky, you've found your place. So check out Oxford. They had the older comics from way back in the days, action figure superheroes, as well as different adult videos, books and the works. These aren't little cheap items but by the same token reasonable prices for what's being sold. My son works at Fantom Comics in DC. So when he was in Atlanta he wanted to visit comic book stores here. Let me state right here that the last time I bought a comic was at Fred's Fruit Emporium across from E-Rivers Elementary school at the corner of Peachtree and Peachtree Battle sometime around 1959. (There's a Starbucks there now.) Jake gives Oxford 5-stars: the staff was both friendly and helpful, the selection is huge, and there's free parking. I was amazed at figurines of comic heroes for upwards of $175. Star Wars figures for grown ups? As the author of the review I penalize Oxford one star: the selection here is almost exclusively aimed at guys. Big busted female super hero figurines popping through their skimpy outfits. Good hard to find collections, adults only section (if you are into that) and very good selection of Manga. Parking is tough so your best bet is to Uber during busy period. The trip is worth it as you can easily spend 30-45 minutes here browsing. As far as the "I was not spoken to for 15 minutes" you are missing the point of the place. I called looking for a specific board game and gave Oxford Comics & Games. I spoke with Sean and Zack. Not only were they both incredibly knowledgeable about the game, both gentleman were genuinely friendly. They walked me through the process of how they might get a copy for me and then got my contact information to ensure I get a copy as soon as they can obtain one. This level of customer service is rarely seen and they have definitely earned a loyal customer. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in board games, either just starting or seasoned. In town for Progpower and googled the closest comic shop to the hotel. This place is good sized and has tons of statues and toys. Problem is all the figures I looked at were 2-3x the price of Ebay. I know brick and mortar stores hate to admit Ebay and Amazon are their competitors, but it's true. I can see paying a few more dollars for something I can get right away, but not $28.99 for a Figure you can find online for $10. After seeing pictures on Google, I was excited to rummage through all the back issues. However when I got there, they had a bunch of books and boxes laying on top of them with signs saying "do not pull from here". So much for the back issues. Last time I went to a comic shop while on vacation, I spent $240. This place got $2.18. I was pretty disappointed about the "off limits" back issues. That's probably where I would have spent a good amount of money. So maybe it's a good thing then, more $ for merch at the festival! read more

First off, this is a good comic book store. It's not great, but it's good. They have a huge selection of comics and graphic novels, and then a bunch of crap that makes me ashamed to be into comics at the age of 32 (porn, hentai, etc...). But I have three gripes...three major gripes. And I will never go into this comic book shop again. First is that whenever I move, I find a comic book shop and instantly set-up a new pull box. Every week, without fail, the employees of Oxford comics would either fail to pull some of comics or (and I don't know how this is possible) misplace all of my selections. It must be pretty tough to pull 2-3 comics a week. Second. Should they forget to pull your comics and you don't show up for a few weeks, you could be getting one of the last copies available. When Oxford gets down to the last couple of issues, they jack the price up 300%. This is not unheard of, however, it is b.s. Especially when the employees were supposed to pull the comic to begin with. Paying up to 8 bucks for a new comic (that is actually worth way less than the original 2.99 price tag) is like having a 20 dollar tab at Taco Bell. It's gross. But incompetency and price gouging aren't unusual. What I REALLY hate about Oxford Comics...more than anything, that I have ever hated and didn't even KNOW was possible in an industry that's struggling to maintain readers, is the management. Most of the staff is decent. Great suggestions when you ask. They'll even go to the back and dig to find something you're looking for. But you'll know management when you see her. The lady that runs the place has no desire to make you feel welcome. From the second you walk into the store, she'll stare you down, over the top of her glasses, before saying "Yeah?" Yeah? I'm not sure if she asks it as a question, whether she thought I said something, or whether this is just her way of saying hello. But management is rude. She has no problem not apologizing for losing your pull box. She has no problem staring daggers at you as you browse. And she has no problem charging more for comics than they're worth. I've been back twice in three months. The second to last time (where she couldn't find my comics), I just said it was a good time for me to go digital on my tablet and excused myself. I've been back one other time to get some Christmas gifts (and to browse some of the new releases, no lie). But when I walked in, not only did Mrs. Manager STOP the conversation she was in and just watched me. No hello. No "may I help you". Not even her infamous "yeah". It's just not a good feeling when you walk into a place and don't feel welcome. It sucks because a lot of the staff is great and the comic selection is decent. But the incredibly rude management and the inability to pull a few comics a week makes this shop more of a hassle than it's worth. read more

I've only been to a handful of comic shops in Atlanta (I say handful, but I mean 3) and this is my favorite so far. It's built in what seems to be an old house on stilts, and the parking is a small slice of narrow spots underneath the building. The reason I recommend this place isn't just because it's got a really solid collection of comics, games, and anime, but also because every time I've visited this place, I've ended up having great conversations about comics and nerd culture with either the staff or patrons. This place just attracts exactly the kind of comic book nerds I want to hang out with, and I love it. The staff is also super-knowledgeable about a wide variety of comic books and helped me track down some stuff that I didn't really know anything about beyond some obscure plot details. Great people here. My only complaint is that I wish it was closer to me. If it's rush hour it takes me almost an hour to get to. read more

When I first moved to Atlanta, Oxford was my store of choice. They gave a reasonable discount for the pull list I had (which was approximately 30-40 titles) and tended to have a good number of new issues and trades on the shelves. I was very happy while I was here. When I moved back into town and was living in Smyrna, I skipped local stores like Titans and the now-defunct Champions to drive downtown every week and pick up my books from Oxfords. I picked up 10+ issues per week on average and was there every week on Wednesday. But I also tended to have one or two missing titles every week or two. If I noticed, it was generally easy to pick a copy off the shelf. If I didn't notice, I would have to hope there were copies left over when I came in next week. Inevitably, if the single issues were still around, they were stuffed into the slots on the side wall and were in bad shape. If it was a particularly popular issue, it was also needlessly overpriced. If I asked about the issues I hadn't gotten in my pull list, the help tended to be curt and unapologetic. When the short girl with long black hair in a pony-tail down to her butt ran the store, customer service tended to be very friendly and open. When she left and things were taken over by the older couple, the tenor of the place changed to a more mercenary vibe. I live in hope someone with a more fan-friendly attitude will take over the store and turn it around. Until then, I'll always have my good memories. read more

There is a large selection here but the attitude of the staff, particularly the older woman, is bad enough to drive me away. The last two times I visited this place that same older woman literally pushed me aside without saying a word to count something on the shelf in front of me. Mind you, I'm over 6'4" and not easily moved though a few simple words would have done the trick and it would have been the respectful thing to do. No one likes being shoved aside. On this last occasion, I decided to put down the $150 worth of books I had selected to buy and walked straight out the door. I'm not going to give money to people who step all over me. Hell, I live in Atlanta. You get that for free here everywhere you go. Your gross and inconsiderate behavior has cost you my business (permanently) and I am actively spreading the word about your attitude to everyone I know in every way I can. Here's a word of advice: YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE NOT AN INCONVENIENCE! (It's just sad that you don't already know this.) Treat us with respect or we'll simply go elsewhere. You're not the only overpriced, obnoxious comic book store in this city. You're not even the best of them. If I could give a negative star review, I most certainly would. read more

Oxford Comics is the very best and the very worst of the comic book industry wrapped up into one. THE GOOD - Oxford carries everything you want. EVERYTHING. Their selection is second to none. While other comic stores got 1 or 2 of the Obama variant covers of Amazing Spider-Man, they had HUNDREDS. Now, this is a mixed bag because in some situations, you're trying to find a needle in a hay stack. But if you want new releases, they're very easy to find. - Some of the members of the staff of absolutely great. There is this blonde guy with short hair who works there that is super helpful and nice. The older gentleman is nice as well, but not quite as helpful. But he gives a certain sort of grandfatherly generosity that's nice. - On top of comics, they sell tons of other stuff that might interest people. Manga, posters, figures, statues, games, etc. THE BAD - Let's say Oxford gets 20 copies of a comic. It's a popular comic and it sells 15 copies. So what they do is they grab the last 5, put them in a bag, and charge triple the price. Oxford is under the belief the comic bubble of the early 90s still exists. It doesn't. It's frankly insulting to treat loyal customers like this as you try to bleed them dry to make an extra few bucks. This piss poor attitude on top of the increasing cover price of comics in general is why I'm not simply waiting for trades from Amazon instead. - I said above that some of the staff is very helpful. What does that make the other staff? Not very helpful at all. The older women there come off with a tone that translates to "what do you want" instead of "how can I help you". - New release Wednesdays sometimes don't go so smooth. I went there once at around 1PM looking for about 7 issues. I found 3 of them but not the remaining 4. There was one guy with a goatee and glasses doing the new release inventory and pull boxes. I asked one of the women about the other titles and she told me to come back later. Yeah, because I have nothing better to do with my time than adjust my schedule to fit your work flow. What they should have is as many people as possible working as fast as they can on new release Wednesday to make sure stuff is ready to be sold. If Best Buy can fill all their shelves with hundreds of DVDs, video games, and music with a few people, so can you. Oxford is probably the biggest and as a result, busiest comic store in Georgia. That being said, they're constantly understaffed and seem to be doing just the minimum to get by. Instead of focusing on bagging 2 week old comics to mark up 300% that'll never sell because of that, they should be working on helping customers. Why not put out signs saying "If you like this title, you'll love X"? Comics are like any other widget in that you can always go somewhere else and get them cheaper. That being said, stores should be doing their best to grow their customer base and keep their existing customers happy. You don't do that by jacking up the price on everything and telling customers to come back later. I'm giving Oxford a 3 out of 5. If you're a totally self-sufficient comic book fan who knows exactly what they want and don't mind the occational sticker shock, then this is the place to be. I really did not think it could be as odd as the other reviews have said but decided to try it out since I was around the corner and wanted to take my son to get a comic. I went in with an open mind and immediately knew who everyone was talking about. We both tried to be overwhelmingly friendly with a smile and a "hi, what a great day we are having" and just got a stare back, not even a "hi". Maybe in the 10years? since I've been to a comic bookstore things have changed? I went to Titans on Pleasant Hill because it was close to where I worked and I got instantly better service. As soon as i walked in one of the staff asked if he could help me. I told him what I wanted, he hunted it down for me painlessly. Unfortunately the comic was already marked up from the sticker price. But it did come in a bag, no board though, I guess those no longer come hand-in-hand like they did in the good old days. So to sum it up. Oxford, horrible service, no bag or board, but cheaper comic. Otaku heaven. And I don't really mean that as a compliment. First: yes, their comic selection is unsurpassed in Atlanta. And if the graphic novel/TPB you're hunting for is in print, odds are they have it. The three stars above are earned purely on selection, and, for a lot of comic fans, that's undoubtedly enough. However, I've got serious problems with the place. First, based purely on the layout and appearance of the store, comics are a low priority at Oxford. The front of the store is filled with toys, trading cards, videos, posters, more toys, bootleg Japanese porn, and then some more toys. The comics section, though large (and, for the most part, well-maintained), being crammed in the back room, feels like an afterthought. Second, the pornographic materials in the store are entirely too exposed. Aside from the copious amounts of hentai videos, there are porn actress toys, and a large adult comics section that has a pathetic, three-foot tall fence dividing it from the rest of the comics. The covers are clearly visible. Way to make a parent feel safe bringing a kid in, Oxford. Finally, there's absolutely nothing about Oxford Comics that is inviting to the novice comic reader. No easily-found recommended reading, nothing shelved by author/artist, no inviting store layout. Oxford is designed to service the existing fan, not to make new ones. And that's kind of sad. If you're looking to get into reading comics, I'd recommend Criminal Records over Oxford in a heartbeat. read more

If you're a comic book dork like I was from age 8 to 16, Oxford Comics is your Mecca. This is simply the best comic book store I've ever been to: and I've been to a lot. Whenever my family went on vacation during those plus-pounded years of comic and Magic card drooling, I'd make them take me to all the local comic shops. I've been on tours of the southeast. Oxford has more titles than any other shop I've seen. Their new release rack goes on and on and on. You've never seen more stylized boobies and weird shaped heads. In addition to the extensive comic array, they also have tons of comic-related nerdisms, ie: games, dolls, trading cards, figurines, dices, yadda yadda. You could get the best 20 sided dice here. Kids who never collected comics because they were too busy with their bulge-crotched GI Joes always think its funny to make jokes about 20 sided dice. Try again. I've never rented the movies they have here, but I can bet you there's some pretty bizarre crap. read more

I'm a female and a new comic book reader. Of the comic book shops I've visited in town they have the best selection of new comics including last run back issues still at cover price. (I've found a slightly larger selection of back issues at Dr. Nos but they are not "in town." Also they (again, Dr. Nos) tend to jack up the price of anything that has even the slightest possibly of becoming collectible.) Although Oxford is not in a shiny new building it is stuffed with merch- comics, games, toys, collectibles. The layout is easy to navigate- new comics in back and everything in alphabetical order. Pricing seems lower than or in line with other independent shops. As other reviewers have mentioned they have a not so secret section of adult comics and hentai- if you are easily offended you may wish to tread carefully. With regard to staff, some reviewers described standoffish or rude behavior, I've have no such problems or encounters. I've had my questions answered politely and with no mocking- they've gone out of their way to look up release dates for me. (When shopping I prefer to be left alone unless I specifically ask to be helped.) All this said, this is where I buy my comics when I'm in Atlanta. read more

Wednesday is the busiest day with new issues of comics coming out, so avoid it unless you're there for that reason. Parking is in the back, and the store kind of creeps up on you as you drive down Piedmont so you might miss the driveway. Oxford is also a great spot to shop for cool toys or gifts for the comic/anime lover in your life. Definitely worth a visit if you're having trouble finding some geek gifts and you don't want to sift through Ebay for hours. Oxford is definitely a nice store to check out, but I'd probably end up going elsewhere for a few things outside of comics. Thankfully, their inability to accept AMEX bought a chance to buy the same item at another store for cheaper plus a promo which wasn't added at Oxford. While their comics selection is great, I tend to enjoy their tabletop games and blind box figures the most. They have a few that I've never seen anywhere else and of a really nice quality. For the most part, however, they already have a few opened and displayed--- leaving out the mystery or your chance for rares. Oxford has a bit of a shotgun spread of offerings besides comics which include manga, Japanese art books, anime/Japanese films & DVDs, odd pop culture apparel/plushies, various figures & figmas, POP figures, OSTs, manga, MTG/TCG related items, a mild selection of tabletop and roleplaying games, indie comics, and well, your obvious comic book staples. They also have a bit of a "not-so-hidden" hentai section, so keep sharp or else you'll walk into it. The place, overall, is rather stocked. Recently, the heavy, lukewarm air of avoidance provided by some staff members has dissipated and since been replaced with warm, friendly faces. I want to give more stars because they have a great selection of comics, graphic novels, games, and figurines but in general the atmosphere doesn't feel inviting. I check out this place once a month when I go to improv next door but I always feel unwelcome. When I walk in and say hello to you (specifically the owner) I would like a polite response (I'm not talking about as if I'm the most important person either). If you don't like people very much, why buy a business that requires daily interactions with them? This place would be a dream job for me to have. My tips: 1. Parking is plentiful and spacious but don't even think about parking in the lot for the Actor's Studio next door. 2. Comics are plentiful and the staff are knowledgeable about their stock. The owner is a bit anti-social but my wife swears that she has positive interactions with her. Maybe she doesn't like males very much. 3. Keep an eye out on the prices. Some items are marked as rare even when they've only been out for a week or two. I'm calling them out for waiting until there are a few copies left, wrapping them up, and claiming they're rare items. One more call-out, comics from Free Comic Book Day are marked "Not for Resale", therefore selling them as out-of-print comics is pretty shady. I'm thinking if the comic publishers found out about this they would come down on you in a big way. 4. Keep an eye out for sales if there is something that has caught your eye. I've seen many items marked from 25 - 50 percent off. It's like any other place, just be patient and look around. Hopefully with more visits I can revise this review for a better rating but I've been going to this place for a couple of years. I always hope for the best. read more

It's changed some since a few of these reviews have been posted, but here are my thoughts on Oxford: It has a lot of stuff crammed into every last square inch of the store-- which can be a good thing, if you're on the hunt for something specific. The store has a sizable New Releases wall-- and as long as it's Marvel or DC, you'll find it! If you want anything else, best of luck-- our pull box is regularly missing books I've requested. At this point I automatically hit the shelves to fill in whatever gaps I can. I love creator-owned and indy books-- they are criminally under-ordered here (really, anything not Marvel/DC is). Even when I ask for a book to be ordered, I get one every five or six attempts. The staff's eyes glazed over a couple weeks ago when I tried to tell them about a book I wanted to order. It's cramped and poorly-ventilated. I assume this is due to the "double-wide on stilts" architecture. I'm the kind of guy that loves checking out the long boxes, but seeing as how they have new product for sale heaped in piles on them 24/7, I have not once considered it-- in the 4 years I've frequented the shop. I love comic shops, and have been to dozens that are amazing. Oxford is not one of them. It's average at best. Atlanta deserves better. read more

I got out of the single issue game a while ago. Back when I had the disposable income and gobs more time I frequented Titan Comics (now defunct). I absolutely loved that shop. Why? The staff. They got to know you and went out of their way to not just make a sale but to help you get a hold of something you were hunting down. One guy in particular, Adrian was my favorite there. But I digress. Oxford Comics absolutely fails on this key business component. I'd sometimes drop by there to see if they had a particular single issue I was missing or perhaps an alternate cover. I visited on many different days and times so there were always different people behind the counter and the results were always the same. The staff made me feel unwanted and like I was annoying them by asking if they had ___. Sorry, thought you were in the business of ya know, selling comics?! The space is large for a store of its type but a lot of it is filled with crap that hasn't moved in the better part of a decade. Do you really think you need to stock 6 Deadman bust figures? Hmm. They have an extensive board game section too, if that's your flavor, but again they seem way overstocked on these too. Perhaps the fact that they're the only 'real' comic book shop in the Atlanta city area makes them think they're safe. They're not. With more people going to digital options or just other sources for trades they should really look at how they treat and appreciate their own customers. Service is what people remember and what brings people back to you. read more

Every time I come here I wish I had a boatload of cash to BLOW because Oxford has all the cool stuff for my bookish/nerdy/RPG/comic book/toy pursuits! It's a freaking tesseract packed floor to ceiling with fannish sensory overload. read more

I agree with a few of Matt M's points. All the toys and anime are off-putting and evoke the "comic book guy" stereotype. However, to say that comics are a low priority is just plain wrong. If you talk to the staff or observe customers, it's clear what their priority is. The space for comics, meanwhile, is far bigger than for the "bootleg Japanese porn." Furthermore, Criminal Records is a *terrible* comic book store. Yes, they got better when they moved, but they still carry very little that doesn't have a "Marvel" or "DC" logo on it. Any indie stuff they have, they get a year after it's already been hyped to death. Oxford, on the other hand, gets *everything*. And, yeah, I might have to sift through a few copies of Lady Death to get to "Burma Chronicles," at least they have Drawn & Quarterly books. Criminal doesn't even know what Drawn & Quarterly is. There's a lot I'd like to change about Oxford (Rocketship in Brooklyn is a model store as far as I'm concerned), but what they do for comics is amazing compared to anything else we have in Atlanta. read more

I visited this store on 4/21/2012; I was a little bit nervous. I've visited this store sporadically for 10+ years, and I've always had good experiences. But having read the reviews, I was afraid the change in ownership might have hurt the store. I couldn't have been more positively surprised. The store is jam-packed with merchandise, but it's all neat and orderly. I had no problems finding what I wanted; in particular, I found a statue I'd been looking for, and at $20 less than what I was hoping to pay. There were two gentlemen working the counter, one an older man and one a young man. Both were extremely friendly and helpful; the younger man offered to take the statue out of its box so I could inspect it. I saw the older woman (that everybody complains about) come in towards the end of my visit. We didn't interact much, but she was pleasant enough. I'll definitely be back. I'm glad we don't have a store like this in my hometown, cause I'd blow all my money there. read more
