This was our first time trying a VR (virtual reality) escape room. It was fun! There are definitely things you can do in VR that would be difficult-to- impossible to do in an in-person escape room. I was able to wear my glasses under the mask part, but if you have large frames you might need to take them off or wear contacts. The backpack part wasn't overly heavy as the chest strap helps to evenly distribute the weight. You also end up having noise cancelling headphones placed overtop so you can hear background ambiance, some music and sound effects, and your teammates clearly, and hold plastic controllers that secure to your wrists with straps that have triggers to pull so you can control your hands to pick stuff up. I get motion sickness easily but I had zero problems with the VR. We played the dragon tower room, which is a 6/10 difficulty. Having played a few other (in person) escape rooms this was easy for us and we finished with almost 20 minutes remaining. We chose the lower difficulty because we figured it might take us awhile to get used to the VR, but it was actually quite easy to manage and we would definitely pick a higher difficulty room next time. We had 4 players - 2 adults, one teen, one senior - and we all had fun. Our biggest problems were bumping into each other and having trouble manipulating objects due to lack of spacial awareness. We also did the in-person Egyptian temple escape room they have and that was 7,000 stars out of 5. Absolutely gorgeous, puzzles that were challenging but fun to figure out, and fully physically immersive. I did need to use the flashlight on my phone in a couple of places. SO much fun and if you are just doing one room that is the one I recommend. But the VR was also a lot of fun and we will probably be back to do another VR room! They will be closing soon due to lease issues and will hopefully find another location!! Until they close they have a special on their website where M-F you can get 50% off of games if you have 4 players or more. They do have Kama'aina rates. There are bathrooms available (use it before you start!), and free cups of cold water available in the lobby. On-street parking. You either have to walk up a flight of stairs or there is a (rickety, terrifying, small, but so far safe) elevator - the door closes super fast and you have to push the open door button not just try to physically hold open the door for others, but that is a fault with the building, not with Chambers Hawaii. read more

It's no secret that I love escape rooms, so when I stumbled upon this activity, I was most definitely intrigued. VR AND an escape game in one? A novel idea! All games are private bookings and can hold 2-5 people. I believe The Temple is the only game with a minimum of 3 people and only because you physically need 3 people to complete the tasks, not because of level of difficulty. We booked the space game and it was fairly straightforward. Like all escape rooms, you'll need to be able to communicate with your teammate(s). I don't tend to like VR because I feel like the images are never super clear. There was one instance in which I had to read some text, and it just felt super blurry to me. Our game master was pretty good at changing our batteries as needed. There was one point in which I felt like the whole ground was shaking and like I was experiencing a mini earthquake, but once my battery pack was changed out, everything went back to normal. I don't love how the business doesn't open if no one books the early morning games. They even say so themselves on the website that they'll open later if no bookings are reserved in the morning. We tried reaching out to see if they would accommodate us, but never got a response. read more

Such a fun escape games company (and according to the staff the only locally owned escape room company on island!) - our VR escape room was a really unique and fun experience! I've never done VR escape rooms before, but other than a few minor times when I was too close to the border of the VR room the calibration stayed consistent throughout the game! I really liked how there were a variety of different tasks that needed to be completed in the rooms. One tip is that I would recommend moving slowly when in close proximity with others to prevent injuries or hitting equipment. In terms of the staffing, our game operator was Tyler. Tyler did a great job orienting us to the equipment/VR room and making sure that we had fun during the experience! read more

I scheduled the live game (Egyptian) for a group of 5, none who have done an escape room before and it was a success! It was very immersive and room was well put together. We really felt transported into the scene. The game flowed very well, did not need any input from the game master. I'm super behind the times, but I just had my first escape-room experience here and it was fantastic! My son was invited to a birthday party here. They have a separate party room (kind of like a conference room with a couple tables, about ten chairs, and a couple tv screens. The kids went off to do the physical escape room, and there was room for the grownups to do the VR, so we moms decided to give it a go. It was so fun! Devyn was so gracious as a party host. He got us all set up with our headsets, goggles, and hands, then we dropped into Dragon Tower, a medieval castle for an alchemist challenge. We got a few hints along the way, at just the right times - he wasn't intrusive at all and had a great vibe. I hadn't even paid attention to the clock but we finished the 3-room challenge with about 4 minutes to spare. The kids had a great time, too. The physical room the keiki were in can accommodate 10, and each VR room can accommodate 5 (they have two VR spaces, so larger groups could race each other in two rooms, for example). The equipment was comfortable, there is space for your personal belongings in the room, and the floor is carpeted, so we kicked off our slippahs and made ourselves at home. We were a little concerned about getting motion-sick with the VR, but the motion was pretty seamless - you moved about the space very realistically and even those in the group who were prone to seasickness had no trouble. They have four challenges and if you complete them all, you get your photo on the wall of fame, plus you unlock four other exclusive challenges. It's a perfect group, family outing, or date night. Parking is metered street parking but there was plenty of it on a Saturday afternoon. They have plenty of change at the registration desk if you need coins for the meters. 2h limit until 630pm, though, so plan accordingly. Chambers is on the second floor of the building. Walk in under their banner and head up the steps. Can't miss their Egyptian themed lobby. read more

What a fun Easter activity. On a whim we saw an opening and decided to try it out. We've done one once, years ago at a different location with a bunch of people, however we never did it again. We had so much fun, our team member Ethan was very personable, explained everything especially about being a 3rd generation location. We participated in the Temple challenge and finished with 3 minutes to spare! Unsure if there is designated parking, however we did street parking which monday-saturday you pay the meter and Sundays are free. They are located on the 2nd floor of the building. You will see a large sign to signify which building it is. Enter the black door with the escape room challenge logo. Each escape challenge is 1 hour long with no breaks, so use the bathroom before hand. Your team member will stay with you to provide nudges or hints (3) throughout if you are struggling. We use 1 nudge and 2 hints I believe. With Easter, we found a golden egg and got 1 extra hint awarded to us! This was a great family activity and it is a bit pricey $130+ for a group of 3. However it was well worth it, but not something we can do often. There are moving items, clues pop up, lights, noise, and quite interactive. The absolute best escape room experience I've had to date! My family and I are escape room enthusiast and have been looking for something new since we've completed all the rooms at Breakout Waikiki and Hawaii Escape Challenge in Pearlridge. A while back while visiting my dad my husband and I stumbled upon Chambers on a walk and this past Saturday we had the pleasure of completing their one and only "live" room, The Temple. Let me just say, without giving too much away, prepare to be fully immersed! From start to finish we had a blast! The staff were totally awesome and our game guide Aniya had only been working there about a month and was already a pro. We had the pleasure of meeting the founder and Co-owner Ron who also happens to be the brains behind the room we played. He was such a genuine guy and so passionate about his work. We spoke about a room he has in the works called The Asylum set to be complete sometime in October. Unlike other escape rooms Chambers have virtual escape rooms as well. The kids were so excited about this but I was hesitant as I am prone to motion sickness. Ron eased my worries by explaining the process and informing me of how this experience would be different in the fact that I will actually be moving about freely in an open space while wearing the VR headset which should negate possible motion sickness. Ron was also nice enough to give us a little sneak peak of the virtual room and let us try on the headset since we all wear glasses. Unfortunately the headset would not allow for any of us with glasses to play with them on as the they are too small around the eye area to accommodate the frames of the glasses. Of course we were all bummed as we don't wear contacts and can not see much of anything without out glasses. This was our family's first escape game ever. My husband and I took our 2 children ages 11 and 8 to the live game, the temple. It was pretty hilarious because we were extremely clueless, especially when we first started until we slowly got the hang of it but Abby, our game guide, was there helping us throughout making our experience unforgettable. I have never done any type of escape room or VR ever. I was a bit nervous and to be honest very clueless. They do a short intro and then get you all geared up with battery backpack, VR goggles, headphones and hand remote controls. I definitely felt very Derek Zoolander in the space odyssey as I had no idea where I was supposed to put anything. But thankfully our guide Jax was so amazing and helped us realize the obvious. I honestly forgot I was in VR sometimes so I'm sure you will too. But she was so helpful which really made our experience so much fun! We escaped with 15 minutes left on the clock! We decided to do the hospital horror add on. It's kinda creepy not really sure I think it's worth the additional money. We decided to book another VR for my daughters birthday and we got 20% off which was nice! Overall we had a really fun time. It was a different activity for us to enjoy during the day and we were the only ones there. They DO NOT have designated parking. All parking is found on the street. The person helping us was really nice (forgot his name - sorry!) and unofficially provided hints when we got stuck. We escaped with one minute to spare - phew! The difficulty is labeled "medium" but I would rate it between easy & medium, or on a number scale maybe 2 out of 5? 5 being most difficult. The puzzles were pretty straightforward for us but then again, we've done a ton of escape rooms all across the Bay Area & other places we travel to. It was a little weird because one of the game masters was in the room with us, standing in a dark corner? Didn't give us hints but I guess was there for safety. Chambers offers 1 live escape room experience and more virtual escape rooms. Finish all the escape rooms, you get your photo on the wall and can do the other adventures. Booking: you can book online, book ahead of time so the slot you want is available. Escape rooms are pricey, so make it worth it when you go. My family tried the Temple. We are definitely more into live action than virtual. Something about tangible puzzles make sense in my brain. BUT that is just me. Not to spoil anything, but we had our toddler with us. It was very family friendly. If it's your first escape room, this would be a good one to try. What makes it different from the others on island? It's more immersive, group puzzles than figuring out codes. I LOVE these, because it makes you get lost in the escape room, like you are in a real "temple". Overall, my family loved it. Me and my boyfriend wanted to do a fun activity as a couple. I stumble on Reddit to find things to do as a couple that fun/cost efficient. I saw chambers and decided to try it out. I saw there's a lot of great variety and VR/ Live one. Which is great in my opinion because not a lot of VR places are in Hawaii. We first put it as Thursday but had to reschedule due to my work schedule. So we decided to go on a Sunday @ 6:30p but I had to change the time. Me and my boyfriend did try to call them on Saturday around 8 or 9p to change our time for the morning instead. But I believe they already left or were too busy to take the call. Anyways, they called back around 9:15am to ask us if we wanted to change our time still and they had space for us @ 9:30a and ofc we said yes. we got up and went there @ 9:30a. Devin was so nice and so informative. He really made the experience for us so fun and helped us a lot. I could tell he loves his job a lot. This was my first escape room experience and we had a blast! We made reservations on their website for the live action temple room. We arrived early as asked, but we ended up starting about 15 minutes late (maybe they were running behind?). Anyways, there were four of us and it was perfect! I feel like it would have been a little crowded with more people. I really didn't know what to expect in the temple room, but it was like walking into the movie set of the The Mummy with the traps and puzzles of Indiana Jones! The lighting, the sand on the floor, the sounds, and the detail of the room were so fun. The puzzles and riddles were kind of challenging so we did get some help/tips from the host in the room with us. The host in the room stayed hidden in the dark lol so we didn't notice him until he came out to shout out some clues. We made it out with 15 minutes to spare! Are you ready to enter into another world? Chambers Escape offers a very unique virtual reality (VR) escape room experience. I have come here twice within the past year. My first time here, I tried the space ship VR escape room with me and my fiancé. The second time, I brought three other people with me and we tried the dragon escape room. In my opinion, the space ship game was easier than the dragon game, and it's probably because there were fewer people with me the first time. The games take place in a blacked-out room. First, your operator helps you and your team get strapped into your gear, such as the goggles so that you can see into the virtual reality, your battery pack backpack so that your equipment doesn't die out on you, your hand-held controllers that are strapped on so they do not fall off during the game, and lastly, your headphones to make the game seem more immersive with sound effects. Second, your operator calibrates everything on the backend so that your movements align perfectly with your virtual reality movements. Don't worry, the equipment is not as heavy as it sounds, but for younger kids it may be too big. (I am not sure if they have equipment for children.) Once everything is set up, your operator goes through a few rules with you as you stand in a box in virtual reality, such as your time limit and the boarder that you are not able to pass through in VR. Later, the game intro plays I would pay attention to the symbolism in the game intros as this is an escape room and you want to find as many clues as possible. When you escape all the rooms and complete the game, you will receive a sticker for first-timers and a badge. So far, I have collected two badges. What most people don't know is that when you collect all four badges, you are able to level up and secure a spot in their hall of fame. You are also offered exclusive games that are only available to 'Escape Masters'. I have only played two games so far, and they were both amazing, but I am looking forward to collecting all four badges! read more

This is for the VR Dragon game It was my hubby's and mines 1st time playing VR and it was super awesome! Our guide Megan was very friendly and thorough on how to play. She stayed with us the whole time and gave us a little nudge (which was quite often LOL) when we were stuck. I was afraid I would get nauseous but that didn't happen. I also wore contact lenses because I read that my eyeglasses might not fit in the VR headgear. The floor is also carpeted so we took our shoes off and stored our bags in a little bookshelf in the corner of the room. We put on our headgear and strapped on this backpack which is a little heavy and then tried out our "hands" which are these two game controller sticks that you hold in each fist and "grab" things with by pulling and holding down your trigger finger. Anyways the graphics and the puzzles were so fun! It does get some time getting used to how much force you need to throw stuff which isn't a lot of force. At the end level my heart was racing and I was so sweaty because the last level was so action packed! We finished with 38 seconds left on the clock. We should have asked what would happen if we failed. Would we see the dragon eating us? LOL. Will definitely be back for another game. Also, don't run in the game- You might hit a wall in real life! And wear comfy clothes because you move a lot :) We learned if you play all 3 of their VR games and their 1 live action game you get Master Status. Which unlocks exclusive games. Pretty enticing. We got a cool dragon magnet badge to put on our fridge and an ESCAPED sticker. If you want you can tip your guide in their little mailbox near the entrance or online after they send you an after-your-experience email. Talk about the most underrated and the biggest hidden Gem in the city! My husband loves escapes room so when I found this place and it's reviews I'm so glad they didn't let me down one bit. I have to say, doing an escape room in VR was super unique! For Christmas we were gifted a certificate from a family member because they know we LOVE escape rooms, I can say we got our money's worth! We came with our friends and they're daughter and we're prepared to save the space station! Surprisingly, we finished with 15 minutes left which left us wanting more. Our more, was the add-on creepy experience of going through a hospital. While we definitely had fun, we wish the space adventure had at least 1 more phase and had hoped the add-on would have been more interactive. I will say though, it freaked us out and we couldn't help but bump into each other in fear as creepy things happened. Sadly, we never got our edited video that we added to our reservation, so hopefully that's coming soon! It would be so cool to see how goofy we looked jumping at various things! I went and did the live action Escape Room with a couple friends. It was MUCH BETTER than the virtual reality one. They went all out to design and decorate it. One odd thing is that they have a staff member accompany you inside, but the staff member stays in the shadows and out of the way. Usually, escape room companies monitor the guests via cameras and communicate through speakers or walkie-talkies. They didn't do that for this room. The staff member is required to active things that move around. It doesn't take away from the game play though. And yes, we won -- with pretty good time too considering the difficulty. They're supposed to be making a new live action room this year, can't wait to try it out. read more

I got to say, it was quite an experience! I have never done a virtual reality escape room before, but it was so much, fun, adventurous, and also mildly challenging.. As this is my third escape room ever, it was a lot more straightforward than the real life ones, but felt good because you were able to interact with interesting worlds without actually having to be there. Also, in the midst of covid I felt more safe than in a real escape room if we had to be touching everything. Zack was our facilitator and he was so great! He was helpful when we were being crazy and supportive when we were on the right track without giving out too much information. Also, our interactions were hilarious and he got it all recorded!
