The great escape was the greatest escape!! Thank you for my friend Tami who is the sweetest and thoughtful friend who constantly think of others and introduced me to this adventure, her energy and passion motivated us to take this journey and gosh what a rush! Hawaii Escape Challenge is located in Pearlridge Center "UPTOWN" next to Claire's I say this because location in the mall isn't stated anywhere and it was frustrating when we were asking each other "where is it?" talk about a mystery...even when I got there we almost past right by it as it's just ONE door talk about a challenge already...one friend was at Downtown. First thing you do is sign a waiver virtually using a QR code and you're given instructions by your guide mostly of what not to do "forcefully break things" as majority of the items are for decor, your guide is there to assist you and is who to ask for clues (three available) when you're stuck...all good?! Do it in less that 60 minutes to figure out how to escape woohoo!! How did we do? WE CRUSHED IT!!!! We had 17:49 left YEAH!! Gosh I admit it was so much fun a great group motivational experience and totally recommend it the more the merrier though too much can get crowded. We were a group of four and it was perfect. The only downside is pictures as I guess Covid there wasn't any props as I seen in past posts we had to take group selfies and borrow the whiteboard to write our time, the celebratory moment to capture it was lack luster but bragging rights are more important right!? We got the Diamond!! 17:49 :-D

Super fun night out with my kids! Bring your thinking brains (or someone who has one) because you'll need it for sure! Lol. Oh and your reading glasses! Dang it, I forget mine. In the end, WE ESCAPED!!! Location- in Pearl Ridge, 2nd floor, Macys side next to Pandora Price- weekends $32 per person Escape room- Diamond Heist is supposedly the easiest room but it's far from easy lol Staff- Litta was friendly and helpful Family time well spent. Kinda pricey, but the memories... priceless. Will we go again? Yes.

My fave room is the large private area with its own entrance, it's right before the main entrance of the business. No food or drinks available for purchase but you can bring your own. I did notice some paper goods available for purchase, pretty smart. Selecting songs is done on your phone. Pretty simple and straight forward search system. Sound system is on point. Def a good place for celebrations and get togethers.

Their website says "call before you come" so I decided to call ahead but all calls went to voicemail. We decided to head in to see if it's available, and if not, we're gonna shoot for the next day. My group along with couple others and 1 person showed up waiting, peaking inside, trying all doors but nothing. Called the number on the door several times and nothing, every call went to voicemail once again. Then we find out owner is talking to the optometrist across the karaoke. Optometrist personnel tells a group to call the number on the door, the same number I have been calling all afternoon. And surprise! Owner picks up their call on the first try. I call again after they hang up to hopefully get a booking and calls went to voicemail again. At this point we just left. What kind of communication is this? You put contact information on your website, instagram, and your door and you nitpick which caller you're gonna answer? Communication in this business needs to improve drastically. This was a terrible experience.

Staff here were friendly, and also helpful in helping us with the escape during, especially since this was a family event with a younger kid, they probably felt bad for us, and we were not doing great overall, lol. Definitely exceeded that 3 hint limit! The room we did was the Y2K one, which was certainly a fun blast from the past room. For those who were 90s kids or fondly remember the 90s, this will definitely be your jam. The room itself was wide ranging of difficulty, while I wouldn't recommend for beginners, it's certainly got a good balance between difficult puzzles and easier ones. The room is also good for kids. Nothing jumpy with it that happens with this one, though, they might miss a lot of the references. But hey, if you're bringing your kids here you can tell them all about the things in there, "Back in my day...", and remind yourself how old you are! Anyways, don't want to say too much and give anything away. Have fun with the escape at Breakout Waikiki!

"Not an Escape Room, Just a Frustrating Candy Hunt"…read more I've done a lot of escape rooms, and I can confidently say this was the worst one I've ever experienced. We booked "Sadie's Sweet Shop" at Room with a Clue expecting a fun, candy-themed escape challenge. Instead, we got a poorly designed scavenger hunt with no story, no urgency, and no objective beyond collecting candy. There is no escape element whatsoever--you're not solving puzzles to get out or to advance a storyline. You're just wandering the room trying to figure out what random combination of props might unlock another piece of candy. It felt like the creator designed puzzles purely for their own amusement, not for the enjoyment of players. Many of the puzzles were confusing not because they were hard, but because they were disconnected, self-indulgent, and illogical. To make things worse, the room was filled with red herrings--not clever misdirections, just pointless distractions that wasted time and made the experience frustrating instead of fun. The whole game lacked cohesion. There was no narrative thread tying things together, no build-up, no satisfying payoff. Just a cluttered space full of unrelated tasks. It felt like a rough draft of an escape room, not something worth charging admission for. Escape room fans: skip this one. Honolulu has much better options. Save your time and money

So fun!!! Our…read moreescape room theme was Sushi, and we had to collect as many Shoyu packets as we could within 50 minutes. You can earn Shoyu packets by cracking codes, solving riddles, and answering triva correctly. To be honest, I did not think it was going to be super challenging, but compared to the mainland chain escape rooms, I would say it's about a 6 considering you want to "breakout" AND beat the other teams that have set records for collecting the most Shoyu packets. Plus, since they only offer one breakout room, they probably can't make it too difficult. I LOVED that our administrator was just as excited and happy to be there as we were. I wish I took more photos of the inside, but pls check it out because they change the theme every quarter or so. Can't wait to try the Christmas themed one that she (the manager/owner?) was telling us about!

We were looking for something fun to do with our daughter on the long Labor Day weekend especially…read morebecause we rarely get weekends off together, so we wanted to make it as special as possible. She loves the idea of escape rooms, but panics when we're in them LOL! I scoured the internet for something we haven't done before and all the escape rooms were either too pricey, wouldn't explain how to escape when we inevitably didn't breakout, or didn't have private escape rooms. Then Google suggested Scaventours which in all my days of searching never appeared! Scaventours is on the ground floor of Marriot Waikiki. Opposite side of the hotel from the Valet. The side with the tour bus pickup. The sign says they're open daily from 9-7 I believe, but you can look up the games and book online. We booked our game morning of and all went well. There's no parking, so we parked at the Zoo like they suggested. We parked at the back half of the zoo (Mauka side) and just followed that road straight pass Denny's. That path lead us straight to the correct hotel entrance to find Scaventours easily. ALSO, the Zoo Parking wasn't taking debit cards and my husband only had a $10. He paid for 2 hours but the machine didn't give change so we got ripped. Be aware of that when parking there. After reading up on the games, I decided we would do Kanaloa's Curse. A scavenger hunt that stayed INSIDE the hotel with various puzzles fit for ages 6-11 even though some of them had me stumped. I appreciate that the game isn't timed and that there was an option to stay inside the hotel because I'm not trying to take my 7yo scavenger hunting on the streets of Waiks. It was super reasonably priced at $23 for my husband and I and $14 for my daughter. We were given the map and a clipboard of puzzles, complimentary pens and candy and we were off. The hunt took us through the ground floor of the hotel finding different things and solving puzzles. It took us just about an hour with my 7yo finding everything and doing every puzzle, so it was PERFECT for her!! At the end, we returned to the store, unlocked the treasure, she got some prizes, and we took photos with the mascot raccoon statue. She was immediately begging to do the rest of the hunts. Successful find both Scaventours and the actual scaventour!!!!

Once you get upstairs, there's two sets of doors and they are the set of black doors to the right which has a little doorbell button that will have VR on it. Ring the bell and the adventure will begin! Currently, they have just the one VR escape game called "Space, Magic, & Time" which was all developed in-house. Their goal is to make many VR escape games for physical escape room locations to add on as a supplement to their escape room choices. Since this is our second VR experience, we felt kind of hooked! They currently have 8 spaces but the max the design of the game currently is for 4 people to play together although they can run two games simultaneously. Each player gets their own VR box so there won't be any bumping into each other situation. Currently their VR headsets are connected to a wire but they will be wireless soon as the wire does tangle as you move around in the game but we didn't find untangling it much of a bother in our game. "Space, Magic, & Time" starts out in a mission control center where you'll be given your first assignment. Each assignment gets harder as it progresses. There's a good mixture of puzzle solving and physical aspects to the game. At one point, we felt like we were actually shooting a real bow and arrow as there was tension felt every time we pulled back. We didn't feel any motion sickness although if you have a fear of height, I think you can definitely practice conquering that in the VR world first. As we get introduced to the VR more now, we can definitely see a trend of where escape rooms might head to next, not replacing but definitely an add on, to the physical escape rooms. *For more info, check out my Yelp profile.

Sometimes there is a group already in the room, and while there is a comfortable waiting area, you do not want to hear what is going on or it will spoil your own game. So if the previous players are going over-time or you are extra early, it is best to wait downstairs in the Logos bookstore until it is your booking time. There were about 7 empty stalls in the parking lot when I arrived at 5:45pm for my 6pm event. Up the stairs is a little landing. You press the button that says "AVR" and it rings a bell to let you in. Gerard welcomed us, gave us safety tips, and made sure we had tons of fun! We all had a great time.
