Well considering i made an account here just to write a review for the chamorro grill anyone who reads this should get an idea of how great this place is. I went there with my family last nite and had the kadun pika which was like heaven.. i have been to a few chamorro restaurants before and wasnt exactly expecting moms home-cooking.. so what i got for my money was the real deal... not to mention they have latiya!!!! they were out by the time i came by with my family but i dont fault them... latiya has always been a favorite of mine and im sure thats a common thread with many. Also, the prices were very reasonable... and were accurate for the portions of the food... not to mention ur paying for great quality and good service.. im 5 n half months pregnant and i started to slow down a little after halfway through my food.. the staff was courteous and polite and very personable.. the service was quick and enjoyable.. i recommend this place to any skeptical chamorros and chamorro food lovers... and i'm positive that anyone new to chamorro food will be hooked.. read more

Delicious food...the grilled chicken, red rice, potato salad and pancit is what I typically order. The banana-chocolate lumpia is tasty too. There's some inconsistency on their frequent meal card (which they supposedly stamp every time you order a meal or two. On my last two visits, I asked the person at the counter for a card. One said, "We ran out of the cards." On my most recent visit (two weeks later), the person at the counter (different gal) said, "We don't have any...our marketing person hasn't picked them up." Hmm...so I start to wonder, "I guess they don't want repeat business from me?" I don't know if they'll have the card when you go there so just ask. The other issue I had was with water. They had been opened for a month when I first went there. When I asked for (tap) water, they said they didn't have any. So I had to buy water (I can't drink sodas). They have tap water now (surprise!)...but don't be surprised if you say "water" and they rush to get you bottled water. So say "tap water" instead. I rate the food 4-stars and the service/business 2.5-stars. However, I'd give Chamorro Grill the benefit of the doubt. It's fairly new so they need to work out the kinks (frequent meal card, customers feeling a bit "nickel and dimed"). read more

This place is great. I think they just opened and I'm glad that they're located in Mission Gorge close to my work. Something new and different in the area. I ordered their Combo Plate that comes with two choices of meat. I had chicken and beef bbq, white rice and a side orde of kim chee daigo. When they delivered my food, I was surprised how fat the combo plate was. It was huge for my hungry stomach. The chicken was really good and tasty. I had the fried teriyaki chicken with red rice and macaroni salad. I really enjoyed it, the macaroni salad is probably my favorite- I am a huge pasta fan. The lady who took my order said my meal was from the Guam side of the menu. Overall the meal was really good and the staff was super friendly!! I came in about 20 minutes before closing and they let me take my time and eat it there. Working in retail I know how badly people want to get home once that closed sign is up but I appreciated how friendly they were even after closing. I will definitely be coming back! Chamorro Grill is starting to show up in my regular meal rotations... and heres why: the GRUB: - grilled steak and kalbi ribs. fuck yes. tasty marinated slices of beef thrown over a flame. the chicken is good too, but i tend to stick to the red meat when i want something chargrilled... watch the fat drip off... - FINNEDINE - soy sauce and vinegar dipping sauce, do it old country style and make it sour and salty... - the chicken killaguen. wtf. my kinda diet yo... chunks of grilled or roasted chicken tossed in lemon, vinegar, green onions... served cold and refreshing... pure protein. - kim chee daigo - pickled raddish and cucumbers makes this differ from its korean cabbage counterpart... but the same ono in your mouth. - i always skip the mac salad... i like the red rice, but tend to only eat a scoop of that... and i pass on the pansit (fried filipino style rice noodles) - occasionally the wife and i will get lumpia, but i can take it or leave it - i had the lechon one day - BOMB! Walked into this place with my cousin and baby. I see there is one girl working the counter and dining area. We looked for a place to sit. All the tables were dirty. Found a table that was less dirty. Walked up to the counter to look at the menu. The girl had her backed turned glanced at me then turned back around. No greeting no hold on no be right there in a sec. When she was ready for me (about 3 mins) she asked "do you know what you want?". She spoke to me like I'm supposed to be a regular, which I'm not, rushing my order and being impatient with what sides to go with my plate. I sit down and wait for the food. When she approaches the table with food, 3 trays were stacked up dropped off and she walks away. Not telling us which one was what. I begin to lose my appetite because of the, not so great service at this point. One thing that bothered me was when my baby spilled a little sauce on the table I wanted to be kind to clean up the mess so I walk to ask for napkins, while she was on the phone, she sighs and tells the customer on the phone "can you hold on please". I am currently addicted to Chamorro Grill's Chicken Kelaguen with all red rice! I went two days in a row...YES, it's THAT good! I love the acidic, lemony flavor of the chicken and the spice of the red rice is perfect! They also serve a good selection of Hawaiian food that I have yet to try. Maybe after my current addiction! My uncle tried the kadun pika and the bf tried their loco moco, they both enjoyed their meals! They also sell Mexican coke and fantas! Customer service here is on point! I think your Menu is Awsome. Just combining Chamorro, Filipino, Korean food combined into one restaurant reminds me of HOME... Because in Guam we have a really big Population of Filipino's and other asians who live in the Island and Filipino's, Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese have a lot of influences into the culture of Chamorro.. Even though some Chamorro's won't Admit they are tagalu because we call everything almost the same. LOL Just coming to the restaurant and eating there reminds me of going to all the village fiesta's in Guam! Umbe' Lanya dai just mixing all the good foods into one restaurant takes you back home... I love Hawaiian bbq. But this place is just so bland! I've been here twice and was disappointed both times. Today their "grilled to order" (a sign on their wall that says your wait may be be long) chicken was cold. So I find it hard to believe their meat is grilled to order. But then why was the wait so long?? Probably because there is not enough staff. There was 1 lady working the front on a busy Saturday night and she was responsible for cashier, phone orders, bagging orders and delivering them to guests, and keeping the lobby clean. I was overwhelmed just watching her! I also only saw 2 cooks in the back and our food took at least 20 minutes. This isn't a sit down dinner so that isn't normal. The seating area was also packed so we had to wait for a table so I guess it's a good thing our food took long or else we would have been standing and eating. The food is just as good as it looks. For average prices that aren't bad at all, this place is a great alternative to L&Ls and is just as good or better. All the barbeque is fuckin good. The pork ribs were really tough however which is why i took a star away. The short ribs and my gf's bbq chicken was really good. Their red rice blew the shit outta the one i made i'll tell ya that much. Not sure what spices they use but the red rice is just plain but really good still if that makes sense. Also the kimchee daigo is a really good side if you don't wanna get macaroni salad or potato salad. I give them a 3 Star rating because they always take a long time with orders and my last visit was the same. I strongly recommend they streamline their process and give their customers an expectation when the order will be ready. Chamorro Grill is a pretty good place to eat if you're looking for Hawaiian BBQ. Their food is actually really good (I recommend getting an order of Spam Masubi) however their service is hit or miss. The staff is always very friendly, but the wait for your food is horrendous. I highly recommend calling in your order ahead of time before going. My typical wait time from the point in which I order my food until is get it, is about 15-20 minutes. The decor could use some work as there are cheaply made decorations on the walls. But it's a small business so I appreciate that they are trying to create the atmosphere. read more

Ordered empanada, spam musubi, and kelaguen (if you're from Guam, you know it shouldn't take long for these "snacks" to come out). I ordered these items specifically because the last time I ordered BBQ from here it took a long time. This time wasn't any different. Waited 30 mins. 3 parties that came after me received their food. I followed up and apparently, the printer did not print my order. I ended up canceling my order since I was already running late to meet my wife. I was craving island grind so I shot over to Chamorro Grill. I usually hit up L&L Hawaiian BBQ down the street from me but they don't serve red rice or chicken kelaguen. If you like Guamanian food then you definitely need to pay Chamorro Grill a visit...Hands down the best spot in San Diego for Guamanian grind. The service is good and the food is great! Once I get there, I tell the girl she might want to hang up the phone since I was calling in for the past 30 min and it clearly states on the phone that LINE IS IN USE. She just states it's always busy and doesn't apologize. I've always heard good things about this place, and am trying to take it with a grain of salt, but my first impression is no where near pleased. I live in Chula Vista, and since there isn't too many islander food joints around.. I actually make the trip all the way to Chamorro Grill to get my Chicken Keleguen & Red Rice fix. Went there a while ago shortly after moving to SD and it definitelt brought me back. Their empanadas were especially good - just like the ones at Onedera Store in the morning before school/work. There were only 2 women working at the time I visited and they were slammed with so many take-out phone calls while trying to serve the in-house guests. My only complaint and I have told the chef this numerous times, is that he has to tone down some of the native ingredients so that American's will eat the food. I prefer my ethnic food to be authentic. But I understand the chef has to appeal to the larger audience who doesn't like a lot of the native flavors. Otherwise it's as good as it gets here, I just take mine home and add fish sauce and other flavorings to my heart's content.
