Been coming here for yearsss and it never disappoints! One of my go-to spots in SD. The spicy fried crispy gizzards are my FAVORITE but honestly everything on the menu is good. They remodeled recently and the place looks great now too. Service is always friendly and quick. This place is definitely popular and has a nice staff. It was very busy inside so I would suggest to order ahead if you are not eating there. I love that's it's family owned and that they are on top of helping each customer. They do have specials it looks like to try that change out. We got the fried chicken and some sides which the chicken has a nice crunch. If I'm in the area I would definitely get it again. read more

Affordable, juicy and hearty. Love this local joint. It's kinda like a IYKYK, mom and pop shop. The chicken is super crispy and flavorful. I really love the tenders also. It's a nice change from your genetic chicken chains. Chicken and rice is thee best combo. They have a pretty large menu, plenty of new things to try. Some of my favorite fried chicken and seafood in SD! Pretty sure everything is made fresh. The chicken and catfish are super juicy and crispy. Shrimp was plump and tender. Definitely recommend their okra! Coleslaw was good too but a little too wet. Can't wait to come back! read more

I haven't been here since they renovated post COVID. It's still not exactly a plush environment, but they have taken down the plexiglass and replaced a few tables and chairs so it's possible to dine inside. The food is cooked fresh and while FAR from healthy, it's good tasting, well seasoned and there is a lot of variety including hush puppies, chicken gizzards, calamari and some new Asian sides including fried rice and garlic noodles. read more

Stopped in to get our fried chicken fix and ended up falling in love with the jumbo fried shrimp. This place is on point, the jumbo 8 shrimp combo is a must try. The shrimp are huge...make sure to get cocktail sauce and hot sauce. Pass on Mac and cheese but the mash and gravy are tasty. The fried chicken was made to order...get the hot sauce with it as well. Tried calling to place a takeout order and they didn't answer. Walked in and ordered a popcorn chicken combo which included 2 sides. I ordered mashed potatoes and fried zucchini. They weren't good. Fried zucchini had good texture but was very bland. The popcorn chicken wasn't crispy at all. Though the coating had good flavor, it was falling off. Chicken was dry. I could see if it was sitting out for a little while but it wasn't. Also waited 25 minutes for my order. All together, wasn't very good. I ordered the 2 piece dark chicken, fried shrimp and the catfish. Everything was great. The chicken was fried to perfection, and it came with cornbread. This spot is I believe a Korean restaurant where a lot of thr locals come. While there we plaid the video game while we waited for our food. The customer service was great. They have a few tables you could dine in at. They had the greatest little plants. I would definitely come back. A lot of people were ordering the fried gizzards. Chicken was alright. However, the corn bread was oily. Terrible. The mac and cheese was inedible. Most vile thing I've ever eaten. It was macaroni in fake cheesy water. It had a weird, rancid aftertaste. I gagged and spit it out. After that, I could not eat anymore chicken. I didn't bother eating the mash potatoes and gravy. I tried this place way back when they first opened and I heard about it and they were delicious. The way they fixed the chicken reminded me of the broasted chicken in the midwest. I came here several times and then I was out of town for a few years. We came back in about a month ago and the chicken was still delicious. Obviously the prices have gone up but they are competitive with other places and serve very good food. read more

My family has been getting fried chicken here for over a decade because they are great. Always extremely crispy, seasoned just right, and they come out piping hot with the juiciest meat. Hence, the wait time could be up to 30 minutes if you're waiting for a fresh batch. The menu is big, filled with all deep fried goodness. You can't beat this crack chicken in the hood, great fish and seafood also, MANY sides. Take mixed 10 piece to annual Boxing Day party and it quickly disappears. Also love the shrimp and chicken tender dinner with 2 sides. Cornbread, okra and hush puppies are good. They have chicken gizzards, hard to find these days. We order the fried chicken, chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, fried shrimp and fried oysters. Service is a little slow. But the food is prepared fresh. Crispy Fried Chicken is a mom-and-pop fried chicken shop in City Heights owned by an Asian family. The parking around the building was limited to six spaces, if that. You may have to parallel park on a nearby side street and walk over. The dining area resembled an outdated fast food joint which didn't look appealing at all. I was surprised to see so many items on their menu. Even the selections on the whiteboard of daily specials were intriguing. I only wanted fried chicken for my meal so I purchased the three piece mixed. They do know how to make a great crispy crust here that wasn't too greasy. Kudos to creating a ventilation hole on one of the corners of the styrofoam take-out container lid to extend the life of the crispiness of the fry. By doing this, it reduced the impact of the steam from the heat of the cooked meat which can quickly result in soggy fried chicken. Things that I would want to try at a return visit to this spot: calamari, krabby cake, oysters, and catfish nuggets. I wouldn't associate these seafood snacks with a fried chicken restaurant so my curiosity has been piqued as to how good they will taste with their formula of deep fry batter. The prices were quite affordable which I'm sure has added to their popularity. They will add an annoying surcharge to all credit card transactions regardless of the amount spent. Bring cash if you don't want to be nickeled and dimed from using a MC/VISA/AMEX. read more

The place isn't much to look at, but has really good food. The the tables were dirty and the woman at the table got a rag to wipe her table down and then gave it to me to wipe down. I don't think there was a bathroom here either. I got the chicken strips which were good. I got it with the French fries and potato salad. I'm rating this establishment with a 3 star when they have the potential to receive 5 stars , for one simple reason. You buy and pay for a 10 piece dark meat box of chicken and they give you one very small sample size serving of ranch dressing....you want more than one ? They'll charge you more than a dollar for each addtnl one. That's a bit ridiculous to expect that one tiny container to be enough to eat along with that 10 pieces of chicken! Sometimes these business's will step over a dollar to pick up a nickel. You wonder why so many businesses go under? This is that kind of example as to why. OG Fried Chicken Spot. Don't come here for the aesthetic or to dine in , just order on the phone and come pick up. This place has the best fried chicken, better than any chain out there. I'm happy they recently renovated, the prices are solid and the chicken is so so crispy and tender. Juicy and perfectly seasoned, this spot is in the hood so of course it has it's own flare. Shrimp fried rice - very delicious Fried gizzards - very crispy and delicious Fried chicken (thighs/wings/breasts) - pretty bland even though it's crispy. Sides - average. Sauces - it's pretty bad. They're not homemade, and the sauce tastes kind of thin. They're also stingy on sauces. Since their remodel, I don't think they've improved their recipes. Catfish, chicken livers, chicken gizzards are OUTSTANDING!!! Honestly, I'm not even sure if I ever ordered chicken there I will next time get a piece but just for the southern way I was raised on it's cooked just rgt and the portions are perfect! If you're having a tough time, finding a large portion of a catfish fillet or gizzards and livers made the way you're raised on look no further! I find those things are an acquired taste, and usually you're raised on them. read more

Yesterday was the worst experience. The entire sandwich was unappealing. It was not only chewy but the flavor was off. My wife and I dabbled at our garlic fries and made our way. Sadly, we have lost our desire to return.

We also added a side of cornbread which came out in a muffin cup. It was very moist and flavorful. We got a melon refresher, which comes with chunks of actual cantaloupe. This was on the sweet side, but paired well with the savory proteins. There was a steady flow of customers that were dining in or picking up takeout. As we were heading out, we heard other customers talking about how delicious the chocolate chip cookies are so we decided to get it to go. There are also seasonal desserts, like mango sticky rice and banana pudding, so we'll definitely be back to eat more delicious soul food and try out the seasonal items.

The rolled tacos were just ok. There's a salsa bar in the back. They give you the sauce lids when you pay so it's a limited amount that you can help yourself to. There is a decent amount of seating available. In terms of cleanliness, this is not it.

It's in a big plaza so parking is never really an issue. It's a chain banh mi spot, but one thing I will say is they stay open later than most local banh mi places, so if you're coming home late and craving one, this is probably where you're going. The left side is a drink cooler with various drinks and grab and go desserts. There are menus on multiple screens, ads everywhere, and it's just very busy on the eyes. Then on the right side you have the drink station and seating. If I'm being honest, I would not sit inside unless I had to. There is a shared patio outside in the plaza though and if the weather is nice, I would 100% take my food out there instead. Most of the tables inside were kind of dirty with crumbs and the trash was full, so it just made the space feel a little unkept. I waited in line and the cashier was very sweet. I ordered a strawberry tea and asked if I could adjust the sweetness, but since the sweetness comes from the syrup it would also change the flavor, so I just kept it as is. I also got the #11 special combination banh mi and asked for extra cilantro because if you know, you know. They take your order, you sit, and they call it out. I waited maybe 10 minutes, drink came out first, sandwich right after. The strawberry tea surprised me. I really thought it was going to be super sweet but it was more like a 6 out of 10 on sugar. Once the ice melted a bit it got even better. It tasted fresh, fruity, not artificial, and there were actual strawberry pieces in there. I really liked it and would get it again. Now the sandwich. It was solid. Not mind blowing, not the best I've had, but it did exactly what I wanted it to do. The bread was fresh with a nice crunch but not too hard. There was a good amount of mayo and pate, the meats were flavorful, and everything just worked. The pickled carrots and daikon could've had more crunch, they were a little soft, but the flavor was there and helped balance everything out. They do add soy sauce and you can definitely taste it. I'm not the biggest fan of that so I'd probably ask for no soy sauce next time, but that's just me. Also when I ask for extra cilantro... I mean EXTRA, because I felt like what I got was just a normal amount. Overall, really solid. Good sandwich, really good tea, and a spot I can see myself coming back to especially since they're open later than most places. It might not be the best banh mi in the area, but it gets the job done when you need it.
