The staff then gathered at the bar and at full volume started talking about their night out without giving a care that there was a customer, albeit just one, next to them. If that was the case, they should have sate at the other section where they would then be able to chat to their hearts content. A customer shouldn't need to tell them that. The steak was fatty (not in a good way, the layer of fat was just so thick) and at medium rare, the insides should still be warm. But it was cold when they brought it out. Further, the side of hand cut fries were soggy and mushy and definitely not hot. For the price I paid ($57 for my meal) I definitely feel shortchanged.

I didn't think it could be true but gave it a go. Steak had no marbling was no better than ur typical rump or porterhouse at a local pub on a steak night. In fact it would have been better at a pub steak night... cheaper for the same thing!!! The chips were a joke at $8?? airfried with salt. Was like eating soggy chips from a local chippy. Only gd thing was their BBQ king prawn.

From the outside, you don't get an idea of just how big it is inside, but it's big, and it's really decked out well with plenty of room for many large groups of diners. We were seated almost right away, but the hostess was just obviously in some kind of rush, because she haphazardly placed our menus down - which dislodged the setting of the cutlery etc - and walked away without so much as an "enjoy your meal." Great start. You're given an almost insulting amount of bread for each diner, yet having said that, it is delicious. The food came out in good time, but knowing other Squire's Lofts don't have a big serve of chips on the plate, we ordered a side more of chips between us, and the waitress never once said anything along the lines of "it might be too much ..." I guess we live and learn and will know for next time (we did try and cancel them once our main meals were placed in front of us, but she said it was too late to do so, even though chips are a staple with most meals there and they could have easily put them with someone else's order). Having said that, the meals were cooked to how we liked them, and the chips were great. The garlic sauce that comes with the salmon was incredibly disgusting, and I personally had to put it aside and couldn't touch it. It wasn't pleasant. After dinner, the plates just sat there and sat there as staff member after staff member walked past without even so much as a glimpse at us or the empty plates (other than the nearly untouched bowl of chips still there). Eventually I had to call someone over to not only clear it all away, but to give us the bill/check. Funny how fast THAT came. To be honest, my dinner wasn't anything I couldn't make at home. Sure it's nice to go out and have someone do it for you, but it's a teeny bit pricey and the piece of salmon was very small. I'm not a steak person, but I hear they're great and that's what you go there for. I would certainly not rush back again, though the location and parking are great. For me, there's many other places I'd try first before coming here again.

All 3 were bad. The steak tasted cheap, the potato didn't even taste like a potato and I'm not sure how they managed to achieve that and it was all leathery, the mushroom sauce tasted awfully fatty. The coleslaw that came with the food was great. My partner ordered a special and chips with his steak. The chips were delicious but his steak came out lukewarm. We then ordered dessert hoping it would improve our mood after the disappointing lunch. We ordered the chocolate mousse that was on special and the bread and butter pudding. The mousse was massively overpriced for the amount that was on the plate, the taste was okay. The bread and butter pudding was awfully dry and nothing like how bread and butter ouais g is meant to be. We weren't able to eat more than about 5% of the bread and butter pudding before giving up on it altogether. Pros: waitstaff, chips Cons: steak, baked potatoes, desserts

The whole experience was first class all the way: - elegant digs - silver service - fab food So thanks to Ben - the head guy - who made it such a pleasure - a really lovely person who kept serving us for an hour after they'd closed - we arrived very late - kinda difficult at present to judge the Chrissy traffic...!!! Anyway, over the course of 2 hours we ate and drank... and really truly thoroughly enjoyed the following: -Grilled rustic bread -Chargrilled asparagus with Spanish prosciutto -Grange salt and pepper squid -Chargrilled Grange baby sausages then -Walnut cannelloni -Chargrilled premium eye fillet steak -Reza's signature whole lobster tail risotto -Pan fried salmon -Sides: potatoes roasted in duck fat, smoked salmon with creamy salmon mousse, beer battered fat fries, beetroot mash then -Chef's selection of signature desserts including house made vanilla ice-cream, chocolate mousse, creme caramel and chocolate gateau. To drink: -house chardonnay -house made LLB's -NZ sparkling water Okay, the whole thing cost us $138 [2 x $69 Scoopon Vouchers] plus $43 for a few extras = $182 for four. Just so so so, YES so amazin'......!!!! A classy joint.. with beautiful F & B's.. decent sized servings, considering it's fine dining.. and top notch service.. but, not formal, if you don't want it to be.. not dress-up, if you don't want to.. and not over-priced.. A great place to take that some-one special... Visited on Friday 18 December 2015 for lunch.

Said family member raved about this place, sensational steak I was told, so of course I decided to attend this birthday. I will note there was about 25 of us, so a significantly large amount of mouths to feed. May I start with the wine, quite cheap and they sure made sure my glass was never empty, this is a tick! Wait time was very excessive, as noted though a large amount of people will do this so no judgement there, I ate snails while I waited, so win for me! I ordered my steak rare with garlic sauce and veggies, it came out closer to medium rare, but that's ok, it was an ok steak, my sauce was very sweet for a garlic base but all in all it was ok. Do I think it was as good as said family member described? Gosh no, was it a good steak, sure. Will I be coming back? Defiantly not. What I will defiantly give props to and make noted is how well the restaurant handled such a large number of people, it was very organized and they kindly let everyone pay their own portion of the bill rather than dealing with the very messy who owes what situation. this gives them a lot in my opinion as when people start to get their calculator out to work out who owes what, I shudder in embarasmnet and can't really handle it.

But if you like steak and seafood then it's worth a visit. Their classic 'Steak a la Cardens' has kept drawing me back for many many years. Just choose the fillet steak option and soak up the creamy lobster prawn and seafood sauce. I love the 'seafood madras' also when I'm after a change. Think lots of scallops in a dreamy, creamy, curry. Delicious. The decor is plush, but a little dated and kitsch for my liking: lots of nautical references, it's just a little too 'finding nemo'ish'. It's changed hands only once since it opened and the new owners are lovely people, so don't let the dated decor put you off. The menu remains pretty much the same as it always was. As well as the usual steak and seafood menu items you'd expect, they offer crocodile, snails, frog legs and sword fish just for conversation starters I reckon. The quality and serving sizes always felt generous, but seemed a little less so on my last visit, so I'm hoping that was just a once off and not a sign of the times. What does crocodile taste like you ask, and is it worth ordering? Think salty chicken, and that's a YES from me.
