The chicken and catfish were fresh and flavorful, the sides were excellent, the desserts were top-notch, and we had a great server (Abby), who was friendly and attentive. We went to Champy's for brunch in Smyrna. The waffle was nice and fluffy. If you like elephant ear, from a carnival, you should have the French toast and they give you a very large orange juice. I would definitely come back. read more

Edited. Changing to 3 stars because the owner made it right by me. We started by walking in and having to wait a minute while 4 servers/hostesses stared at us waiting for us to talk first. Finally, we said, hey, we'd like a table for 2 and were promptly sat even though it felt like we had bugs coming out of our ears. Our server was fine. Our food was not. Award winning chicken wings weren't worth the plate they were served on. The flavor of the sauce was decent, along with the smoke but the actual meat was hard and rubbery. Mac and cheese was very boring. The fried chicken was so bland that I recommend going to kfc for an upgrade. The fries were super salty but I managed to survive, and the water tasted like chlorine. The best part about my meal was the mashed potatoes which isn't a good thing. I think the owner/manager noticed something off when we were leaving with plates full on the table and asked if everything was ok. We politely let her know our qualms, as this is a very hard conversation to have with someone, that their food just wasn't that good. We paid our bill and on the way out she said she "was going to take care of the bill but the waitress got to it first". She didn't offer this to us at the table, and she didn't offer to refund us. Sadly, she offered us a gift card which we couldn't accept (because we're moving out of Nashville in 2 days), and even if we weren't moving, we wouldn't have taken the gift card. The whole situation seemed so disingenuous and they were never going to cover our bill. I'm really disappointed and if you've made it this far in the review, I wouldn't go here. Visited the Smyrna Champy's on a business trip to the area. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the grilled chicken salad and the Tamales are the best. I had high hopes for the new to Smyrna restaurant. Decor was interesting, staff was friendly. Food was not so great. I had the catfish, which may have been my mistake ordering catfish at a chicken joint.... but they do claim to have the culture of the Mississippi delta so catfish would be a natural. Not so! Server got us our drinks and appetizer we waited more than an hour just for our server to come ask us if we were ready for our check... manager came out and said sorry your server got your order mixed up your food is on the house. the food is good but they only provide a fork if you ask for it. if you want a knife also they make you feel terrible for asking for it. The young manager said they serve finger food so no knife is needed. I like the food and it's nice to have a new place in Smyrna but all the hostesses and servers are too busy chatting by themselves to service the customer. really sad because it's a beautiful building and the food is average but who eats with just a fork you must beg for and too bad they don't have enough knives to provide one to those who eat there and have manners? read more

Restaurant has a good atmosphere! Walked in and there were 3 girls at the host stand who just blankly stared at us and didn't say anything until we asked if we were supposed to seat ourselves so that felt a bit awkward though. Everything looked nice and clean and wasn't too loud. I do have to say the food was mediocre at best. We started with the famous wings that were really just ok. Pretty rubbery but the flavor was decent. We also ordered half chicken plate and some tenders. We found the chicken itself to be super bland and lacking flavor, same goes for the champy's sauce the tenders were served with. To be honest, my partner had one piece of his chicken and didn't take the rest to go. I didn't even finish one of the tenders (they are a huge portion though which was nice) but I took them to go only because I felt bad. The sides included fries, cheddar Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. My partner enjoyed his mashed potatoes, the fries were nice and crispy but overly salty, and the mac was... not good, took one bite and didn't go back for more. It tasted super fake and sticky, maybe try ordering the other flavor on the menu if you're curious! At the end of our meal, the owner came over to check in, likely because we had barely touched our food, and we were honest with our experience. Our server had already taken our payment but the owner was nice enough to refund us after we left. The prices for the portions given are great, just severely lacking any flavor or seasoning. Fun atmosphere. Live music. Good prices. Nice staff. I unfortunately didn't know the food was all "hot". My husband ordered the chicken and I ordered the shrimp basket. I wasn't expecting the spicy breading or the jalapeños with my shrimp. Lol. I asked the server several questions she didn't know the answer to which is fine, but it would have been nice if she tried to find out. All in all it was a good experience. We went to the brand new Champy's for lunch today. I was not expecting much, to be honest- I mean, chicken. First, even on an Easter Sunday, they were busy, but not overly crowded. We got seated immediately. Our server was so on target. She greeted us very pleasantly, took our orders with no issues and even answered questions about menu items. Next, the ambience- sports baresque, but not in your face so. The venue is big enough that they should be able to handle most calls for service Very nice! There is outside seating too, for those adventurous souls that enjoy eating al fresco. Finally, the food. I had the 2 piece white. It comes with baked beans and cole slaw (you can change your sides if you wish). I am always nervous when getting cole slaw from a new place. Oh heavens!! The cole slaw was amazing!! It tasted so much like cole slaw I remember from my childhood!! The baked beans did not taste bad, and they were definitely different than what you normally expect. No super thick, tomatoey, sweet sauce. A couple different types of beans and a bit of a tang to them. Now, the chicken. It was really the star of the show!! The coating was thick and fried to the perfect crispy doneness!! The meat was moist and carried a bit of the flavor from the coating. The desserts were pretty meh. They did not have the same 'home cooked' taste or vibe as the rest of the food, but were not bad. Veterans, get a discount on their meal alone. While I still like when the entire family is included, most of the times that is a 10% discount, this was a 25% discount. We will MOST definitely be visiting them again!! read more
