I always avoid the buffet. Don't like food that sits at room temperature for too long. Too likely to be spoiled. Therefore we always order from the menu. Best deal is the lunchtime menu before 3:00 pm. Variety of food is good. Quality is medium. I enjoyed the Shrimp Egg Foo Yong@ $7.45 on the lunchtime menu. King Po Chicken on regular menu was not so great. Few peanuts, few peppers, modest amount of chicken, not so many vegetables which were not particularly fresh and crisp. Buffet bar was terrible. Food was cold. We arrived at 4:30 and new trays of hot food started being brought out at 4:45. I ordered off the menu which took 25 minutes. When we asked about my meal she said be cool, it takes a while to make the noodles hot. Styrofoam plates and cups, plastic utensils and hot tea took ten minutes. We were the only seated customers. All serving items were on the checkout counter and every other space available. Boxes of products were stacked by the customer seating booth. I will let you decide what I think about this restaurant. Sign said it opened at 11 am. We went in at 12 noon. No food on buffet. Was told it would take 10-15 minutes (this seems to but what I am told at every Chinese restaurant I have ordered). We waited. I went to rest room. This was the nastiest restroom I had been in. I washed my hands and felt like I needed to wash them again when I left. Every surface was sticky (door knobs, door itself, light switch, etc.). I live in Pickens and this place used to be a decent restaurant! The food is still okay but over priced! The prices on the menu are not the same as what you will pay at the register as I learned the other day when I added up $32 worth of food from the menu and went in and it was $43! I asked the lady at the register and she started writing down totally different prices on the menu and adding them up! I told her she needed to correct her menu to stop that type of confusion! The place is bad shape and getting worse and uncleaner as time goes on with no show of concern by the owners! I will most likely not go back! One star! read more

I think if you're walking in to a Chinese restaurant in a Bi Lo strip mall, your expectations should be aligned with your actions. You're not paying for the ambience - you come for the food. The buffet was wonderful and priced well. The wonton soup - spot on. The salt and pepper shrimp - cooked/ seasoned perfectly. Spicy mixed vegetables, lo mein, amazing crab rangoons, and wonderful egg rolls. I'd highly recommend getting some hand scooped ice cream for dessert. There were 6 flavors! I have no qualms about the cleanliness or conditions of this restaurant. It was the perfect spot to fill multiple appetites after a long day on the lake. Will I come back? Absolutely. If not the worst, among the worst Chinese buffet experience I've ever had. From the moment we ordered I got the feeling I was inconveniencing them by dining there. Not a smile, not a pleasant tone, just a statement of what I owed to be paid up front. We were handed styrofoam plates and cups, a plastic fork and pointed in the direction of the buffet. The food initially available was past it's prime and barely warm. After we managed to find a few items that looked edible and began our meal fresh food started coming out from the kitchen. Could this be why they didn't seem happy to see us, because they had to put out fresh food? This was around 6PM and we were the only diners there during our meal. Bottom line, from the service, to the food to the restaurant itself, all rated among the lowest of my dining experience. My advice would be to either step up your game or do potential diners a favor and shut down this place for good. read more

I called in an order. Tucked away in the corner of a shopping center, this quiet and medium sized restaurant is, like many Chinese restaurants, decorated in Chinese contemporary art. A bright young lady running the cash register was service with a smile. Large, juicy boneless spare ribs and filling portions. The boneless spare ribs were a little light on the sweetness, though, and slightly under cooked. The egg rolls are delicious and large. Supposedly, they have a buffet, but I didn't see it open at 9:30pm. Prices are a little above average, but being the only game in the Chinese restaurant market in Pickens, by all means, they have the right. My order was accurate, reasonable portions, with some flavoring missing. I was expecting a sweeter taste as is typical with boneless spare ribs. Overall, still a good experience. So if anyone eats at chang An buffet in pickens just want to warn you to get a receipt when you pay. So this afternoon my girls wanted Chinese. I went by in stead of calling in the order bc I was out already (big mistake). I ran in placed my order and the little girl that took my order was on her phone the whole time, but the order came to 35.64 I have never paid before pickup (it would take 20mins) so I told her I'm running to my car to get money. I came back in and paid with 2 twenties. She reminded me I will take 20 mins. So I left to run by Walmart to grab one thing. When I got back to pickup the food (mind you my girls are with me) the little girl said it would be 35.64 and I said I had already paid, she argued with me and then the mother also argued with me. So i said i would have to call the police bc that was all the money i had. They have no cameras at the register and no one was in the restaurant when I paid. Police was very nice and due to the camera situation, etc he wasnt sure what had happened. He said he believed me bc I told him my whole story from time I got off work. I just want it out there the police helped me out and chang An buffet will still your money. I do hope I cause them some business because they not only was it embarrassing, but I dont make much and my oldest daughter (17) was the one that gave me the money to buy the dinner. read more
