Oriental House is always my go-to Asian restaurant in the Upstate. Why? Their Mongolian beef is the best I've ever had- it's loaded with onions, has a sweet and savory sauce with minced garlic, the beef is tender, and the proportion is big. The fried rice always hits. The eggs rolls are also the best I've had- always crunchy, flavorful, and packed full. Best part though? The bottle of shrimp/yum yum sauce they put on the table so you can add your own. No more asking for more little cups like elsewhere! It tends to be busy, so plan accordingly or plan to wait. Always clean, friendly, and well worth the trip. read more

The food was so terrible, it was almost comical. I ordered a vegetable lo-mein and a beef and broccoli with fried rice to my hotel room. I got a lo-mein with 3 pieces of broccoli and tiny handful of shredded carrots and maybe 5 green onions? Then i got brown rice instead of fried (i wish i were kidding. This was not fried rice at all. There were no vegetables in sight, simply pure brown rice. Or perhaps a horribly undercooked white rice with some kind of brown sauce? Lol). Then the beef and broccoli were DROWNING in a sticky sauce that I couldn't stomach nor could identify. You would need to chug a bottle of water after tasting this. So for me the food was good but the service was basic. My downfall was there was a piece of metal from the cleaning brush in my daughters lo mein. This really scared her and worried me for future eats. The portions were really good along with the prices but I think for safety reasons I may steer away from this eatery. I ordered crab rangoon and the chicken, green beans, and onions. It was delivery, but it arrived hot and delicious. I have to say that I was really impressed with the taste of this food. I ordered the chicken because it came in a Cantonese style Brown sauce, which I think is hard to find sometimes. It was perfectly balanced, and there was a very generous amount of chicken with the beans and onions. This will definitely be my go-to place as I have zero complaints about the food. Ordered out tonight...Shrimp Singapore noodles for me and Shrimp LoMein for my 11 year old. Noodles and veggies were perfect but the shrimp had been cooked waaaay earlier and in waaay too much Soy sauce. They were super salty tasting. The teriyaki sauce is super watery now. Ordered takeaway for 3 egg rolls, large sweet and sour chicken, side of fried rice, and a regular sesame chicken. The total was almost $50! The fried rice was really not good. It was pretty much just their steamed rice cooked on the griddle for a few seconds. The sweet and sour chicken didn't have any sauce with it nor was there any other sauces in the bag. What used to be a great Chinese restaurant has fallen victim to cost cutting and staff reductions. Their product and experience takes a major hit in this. Unfortunately the food is nothing more than mediocre Chinese served in to-go boxes but sold at the price point of a decent dining restaurant. I was unimpressed with the general tso and rice. Sorry to say, the quality has really gone down here, and this is no longer the trusted favorite it was for several years. The food quality has slipped a lot, so much so that nothing I order ever tastes very good. I call this food tolerable at best; it is not something I would seek out. The service quality has also gone down. I used to get reliable, speedy service from the same team, visit after visit. That team is all gone now, and the service is lackluster. Considering all the old faces are gone, I wonder if they sold the place. A posting noting an application to sell alcohol (which they used to be able to sell) also suggests they've sold it, and maybe the new owners have to reapply for this. One positive thing I can say is that the portions are large. Other than that, there's nothing I really like here anymore, so I doubt I'll be back. read more

Oriental House is definitely an Americanized Chinese and Japanese place, but it's so many steps up from the typical Chinese take out. Their fried rice and chow mein is quite good, not just rice or noodles drenched in soy sauce pretending to be legit. My usual is the chicken and broccoli which is always good. The Pad Thai is the best I have ever had. It is just the best I have ever had, period! Every bite is a good as the first. Fresh, light, lemony, the proteins are cooked separately with care as to not over cook any one ingredient. I had the house Pad Thai with steak, chicken and shrimp. Nothing was overcooked or under cooked and everything tasted like, well it should. It was simply the best Pad Thai this 66 year old man has every had. And that includes a tour in Korea where I visited Thailand on a regular basis and enjoyed every version you can imagine. So from Asia to the states, this is hands down the best I've ever had, anywhere, ever! You should really try the Pad Thai! Btw, this is the perfect leftover to have the next day for lunch because unless this is your only meal for the day, you're not going to finish a whole portion in one sitting. I'm a big guy and I can only put away half to 60% so it's the perfect lunch portion as well. The best part is it's almost just as good the next day, just don't hammer it in the microwave and add a few peanuts and it will be a tasty reminder of the the previous evening or whenever you first had the best Pad Thai you've ever tasted. Just went yesterday for there for the first time in a while and since Covid. I got the orange peel chicken with lo mein and 2 chicken egg rolls. The chicken was yummy and little spicy and the lo mein was awesome. Could have eaten way more lo mein. The eggs were not as good as I remembered for some reason but it could've been an off day. I'll definitely be back. Also, since Covid they take your order up front when you come in and then you sit. No waitresses and real plates and utensils. My husband & I went here for a few years, food was always great quality in both taste & appearance. Never minded that we pay more there, it's quality food that is worth it. Moved back home to Florida for last 3 yrs, we're back here in greenville now and we came here and the food was not good nor appetizing to the eye. The general Tso breading looked GROSS, like some cheap stuff from the frozen food section in grocery store.. seriously...chicken was extremely stringy, not normal looking at all.. One thing I can most definitely say is SOMETHING HAS CHANGED. And not in a good way. Not the same food quality, taste, appearance. Maybe new owners serving sub par food? Or same owners cutting costs starting with their food quality? We would've felt better eating Mcdonalds, and paid less. Sad cuz this was a 5 star spot in our opinion. I was surprised how crowded this place was for lunch during the week; although, they never disappoint. Service was wonderful. Although, not your typical "affordable lunch". I always LOVE getting their fried dumplings and crab rangoon for the table! Today, we shared a hibachi bowl and at $10-12 it's way to much food for lunch.
