My experience has been to go store to store as my good friend Alice (who is from Hong Kong) taught me to do, and see what was the freshest at each shop, because normally one will be good on chicken and another on bok choy or whatever. It's just the nature of things you wind your way down Stockton buying your groceries here and there. That said, come to New United for: green vegetables, as in bok choy and other green, leafy things like kai-lan (芥蘭) because they are often very nice here; the seafood at times is quite good (look for shrimp or crabs!) as can be the poultry; and their selection of bottled sauces is better than most of their competition.

But then this one day they decided to showcase the fresh shrimps from the tanks by putting them in a separate area right besides the veggies and started yelling, "5.99 a pound of live shrimps!" (of course in Chinese.) It literally stopped me because I love live shrimps, prawns, lobster, crabs, or any seafood with multiple legs (or no legs-- like fish.) Yes, it's that CHEAP and that FRESH and that DELICIOUS!! I bought 2 pounds, cooked and ate 1 in half an hour for dinner. BTW, seafood is good (but really, only best) when it's fresh and fastest way to lose weight when replacing meat.

Pretty good stuff, unfortunately they do not provide samples so you have to just try and hopefully you can come back and get some more or your favorites. If you buy 10 pre-packed preserve plums, they give you a free one. They were not pushy here but they don't speak much English so it was hard to get information about items we were asking about. Anyway, still a good place to visit if you are into the preserved fruits.

Okay they are not really secrets, but they could be! I get some of my herbal and tea remedy at Nam Hai. They have jars of teas that can be bought from ounces to pounds. On my last visit, I bought Siberian Rose Detox tea for beautiful skin, Lavender Tea to promote restful sleep, Bitter Tea for detoxing the blood and liver and a beautiful blooming flower tea for positive energy. Pretty much everything we consume in the western world has oil, fat and grease. This is the reason why the western world is full of ailments such as diabetes, and high cholesterol. Knowledge is the key to preventing them, so I try not to consume anything that will give me cellulite. If I do, I drink tons of hot tea to help with the digestion and detoxification. Nan Hai is a great place to buy them.

After downsizing amidst the great world changes in 2020, they have filled many vacant retail store spaces on Washington as well as Pacific. The original posting for this was just a few doors downhill where they replaced a produce and grocery store. Like their competitor who took over the Asia Garden Restaurant, this group now occupies the former location of the popular Hong Kong Teahouse. As you can see from the photos, it is indeed on a supermarket scale size wise, with spacious aisles and walkways, unlike the original store. Snacks, instant noodles, and dry goods for Asian cooking are what they are known for. They have a refrigerated section with drinks and perishable foods and freezers with dumplings and meals too. If you want to avoid a claustrophobic and typical (not in a good way) crowded shopping environment, you will find this store more enjoyable than the Washington store. But be careful, because it's narrow a$$ aisles are insane. You WILL be touching each others butts or hips and shoulders. I never stay there longer than 10-15 mins as it gets extremely overwhelming. I feel pressured to leave or hurry and pay because it's so narrow and it's uncomfortable when you or someone wants to pass by. I don't think I full looked thru every thing to see if they even have an item or not. It's even more annoying when you line up to pay. Because there's only one line. And it gets pretty long even tho it may be 4-5 ppl because it goes into the aisles. Again, which is extremely narrow!!
