My co-worker was ordering lunch one day and mentioned she was ordering from A Change of Pace. I've heard of this bar before but had never actually tried it. She went on to list a bunch of items she loves from there and kept saying how good the food is, so I was sold. I ended up calling and placing our order, and they dropped it off right at my job, which was super convenient. I ordered the honey barbecue wings and added a side of barbecue sauce--though honestly, I didn't even need it. These wings were slamming. As you can see from the picture, every single wing was soaked perfectly in sauce. No dry spots at all. You get a dozen wings with your order, and they also include celery and ranch on the side. Even the celery and ranch tasted heaven-sent, which says a lot because usually that's just an afterthought. They have a pretty full menu with a nice variety of American-style dishes to choose from. I've heard it's a great bar atmosphere too, although I haven't eaten inside yet--but I'm definitely looking forward to that experience. I've seen they've since won "best wings" awards, so the secret is out! This place is informal & down to earth, usually lively, and has plenty of TV's for sports - GO 'Cuse! There's a good selection of drafts and a solid food menu, including app's, hot sandwiches, pizza, burgers/wraps, & even salads! Went there because we heard the wings were good. Recommended by our hotel bartender. Sat down.. no one came to serve us. Give us a menu. Nothing. We came all the way from Miami. I went to the bar, and the lady said one second. I sat back down, and waited another 10mins. Made eye contact and all. She did everything else but acknowledge us. She cleaned the bar. Syracuse neighborhoods go from really good to really bad really quickly (think Baltimore...)...this place sits in one of those areas. The other night my partner and I decided to get wings here at Change of Pace. We arrived at 6PM. Upon arrival we stood at the bar waiting to be helped. We were not greeted. As we waited, I got the attention of the bartender and told her we would like to place an order. The bartender continued to tell me she would help me as soon as she could. We continued to wait patiently and she took my order at 6:18PM. She proceeds to tell me my order should be out in about 30 minutes, I said okay thank you we will wait. I was told my order would be brought to me when it was ready. All the staff continued to walk around helping other people and bringing them their orders but I never got mine. I looked down at my phone to check the time and seen that we had been waiting for over an hour. So, I went up and asked about the status of my order. The bartender tells me she will go grab it. When she brings it out, I check it and realize that my wings were cold, and my fries were soggy. Unacceptable. I asked her if something could be done about it and her response was that she was busy and that it was my fault that my order sat in the back. She said it was my responsibility to pick up my order, mind you she said it would be brought to me when she took my order. I asked if she could get them to remake the food and she gave me an attitude, so I asked for a refund. At this point I did not care about the food. She told me if I wanted a refund that I would have to call the owner. Yeah, absolutely not. I gave them the food back and asked for a refund. I did get my refund but that wasn't my issue. The problem I had with this interaction was the fact that this bartender had poor customer service skills. This could have all been prevented because it was clearly a misunderstanding. After asking for my refund, me and my partner were told not to come back. Got it. I now understand how they treat people at this establishment. I realized that they treat the regulars with respect and serve them first before they help anyone else. I am highly upset with how this was handled when it could have been an easy fix. Instead, I was told not to come back because I refused to wait an additional hour for them to remake my food. I simply wanted a refund instead because I had already waited for over an hour to get my order in the first place. An hour and fifteen minutes to be exact. Overall my experience was a bad one but I hope nobody else has to deal with something like this in the future. read more

I work in the area and my employer orders take out every Friday. I have 30 minutes for lunch and heard about their excellent wings so I chose to try them .. extra crispy mild. The lady told me it would be an extra 35 minutes for extra crispy. I also ordered a side of fries. I order half dozen mild wings. Parking is on the street . There is a huge empty parking lot next door formerly 7-11 and a sign stating all cars will be towed . I went there spring 1 pm so parking was not terrible. Inside the bar was full with senior citizen patrons and nice bartender and 5 people sitting i the bar area. My order was ready and hot minutes after I arrived . In so much as I had 15 minutes left for lunch I decided I would sit down and eat a bite of my hot food . The bartender panicked and asked me if I was dining in. I replied yes... she then told me she had to "plate " my food ?! She then came From around the bar with a glass plate . She said the owner doesn't like anyone eating out of plastic containers there. How embarrassing. There were 5 people sitting at the tables and 4 were empty. I was at the rear of the bar. All I wanted to do was eat a few bites as my lunch would be taken up by driving time . I said never mind and left. The wings were just wings... no wow factor and Ingot ranch dressing on the side . Everyone talks about the wings here, but I wasn't overly impressed. Tried three flavors (medium, garlic-parm, and BBQ). What I liked best was that the wings were crispy, however, some were a little too cooked and ended up being dry. Medium sauce had the right amount of heat without being overwhelming. BBQ was sweet and tangy. The garlic parmesan was probably my favorite of the bunch though. Had a generous amount of garlic. Here again, the wings were inconsistent, as my first garlic-parm wing was pretty bland (and overcooked), but the rest got better. The pizza was crispy yet doughy at the same time - something not easy to achieve. It could have used a bit more sauce and cheese though. Bartenders here are definitely corner-bar bartenders. Don't ask for anything complicated. One bartender had to ask what was in a margarita and she repeatedly kept forgetting orders. All in all, Change of Pace was decent. This is a neighborhood bar. The bar is small but was busy for a Sunday afternoon. It took me 5 minutes to find someone to figure out where my takeout order is. They ***REALLY*** cater to their regulars here. I'm not one so it takes a while to get some attention. I got 24 wings, large pizza with pepperoni for 33.95 (price includes tax). Not great but not terrible either. The pizza was extremely salty. It was crispy but the sodium content make it unbearable to eat. I am absolutely obsessed with chicken wings. Everyone knows this. The garlic parm wings here are the BEST in terms of crispiness. Not too salty either, great garlicky flavor. Most chains put too much sprinkle cheese on them but this was perfect. If you love, love, love garlic, these are the ones for you! The Extra Hot is the true winner for me. I enjoy spicy food and after about 3 of these, I needed a glass of water. Not too vinegary at all, I don't know the sauce they use but everyone knows I complain about vinegary ones. These were FLAVORFUL. Definitely could have been crispier but I think 95% of restaurants I've come across sauce them before cooling so they're a little soggy. I'll give it a pass because of the flavor though! Was named Schnitzel bank's, but has been Change of Pace for 23 years. It's a nice, friendly atmosphere with knotty pine walls and a back room with tables, chairs and a pool table. The bar has about a dozen of the usual drafts including Blue Moon and Yuengling. M-F they offer a really nice lunch menu; some items change daily such as homemade soups. The Monday that we came here, the daily menu sheet had Stuffed Shells with Garlic Bread $5.95, Chili topped with cheddar in a bread bowl, etc. The reg. menu has Apps., Wraps, Pizza, Wings ("voted best"), Burgers and Hot & Cold Sandwiches. We tried the Philly Wrap with FF $5.95. Comes with a small cup of good marinara sauce and a mound of nice fries. It was great. A cup of Chili w/o crackers was tomatoey (a new word?) with lots of so-so ground beef, little onion and green pepper. But it had enough good, spicy kick. While the hot could've been a little crispier both sauces were delicious and exactly what I would expect from a hot and garlic parm sauce. The white pizza was incredible. Greasy, thin crust, lots of garlic. Just how I like my white pizza. Also, the bartender, a middle aged gentleman whose name I can't recall, was easily the best bartender I've had wait on me since moving to Syracuse. He's friendly and funny without being overbearing. Again home visiting family one day I was visiting my cousin and really wanted some chicken wings. I didn't know much about this part of the city so she told me to try Change of Pace. I did and was very happy with the results the wings were hot and fresh when I received them. I ordered them over the phone and they were done in 15 minutes. I was kind of leery when I looked at the outside of the building, but once I got inside it was a normal looking bar. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I had heard good things about the garlic wings, and since it's a 2 minute drive from my house, I thought I'd give it a shot. It's very unassuming from the outside. In fact, I lived in the neighborhood a while before I even noticed this place. Probably still would not have if it wasn't for driving past on a Sunday and seeing a bunch of people in Bills' jerseys outside. I actually never went in the place. I ordered the wings over the phone and the girlfriend picked them up. From what she told me, it's a decent enough place on the inside. I was surprised how long it took to make up 2 dozen wings. I was expecting 10, maybe 15 minutes. It took almost a half hour, which isn't completely unreasonable, but much longer than I expected. The wings themselves are pretty good. We got them extra crispy, which seems to be the most popular way to get them. While I was expecting more of a garlic flavor, they were really addicting. The crunch on them was really nice. I ate a significant amount of the 2 dozen. I wouldn't hesitate to get another dozen at some point. Maybe next time I'll even go in. read more
