My friend booked a 1 bedroom/1 bath with full kitchen and a small living area with a pull out sofa bed through VRBO. There was 4 of us that stayed in the condo that sleeps 4. We were on the 2nd floor where we faced the beach and was away from the Main Street. We were above the garages which is probably a nice feature to not have to worry about making too much noise for anyone that would have been on the first floor. The CIS provided everything you would need (aside from your own personal toiletries). We had a small stackable washer and dryer in the unit, there was dish soap, laundry detergent packets and coffee and tea. In the bathroom there was a mounted dispenser for shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I was one of the lucky ones to sleep in the queen bed. It was comfortable but the pillows were really small and disappeared the minute your head laid on them. I feel like there could have been a few more extra pillows around so that each guest could have had 2 pillows. When you open the windows, we got great air flow. It got a little stuffy at night so I would recommend opening the windows a bit if you are on the second floor. The bathroom was large but lacked ventilation as there is no window in it. There was a fan in the bathroom but it wasn't really working well enough. I loved that we were about 1,000 ft from the beach. The manager, Jen was great and making sure we were doing okay. She gave us Sangria on Saturday afternoon and there is fresh pop corn in the lobby. You can borrow beach equipment from the office. We borrowed a few beach chairs. We were a little disappointed when we saw that our unit was not the one featured on VRBO which highlighted a hot tub on the deck. What we saw on VRBO also showed that were would have more than 1 bathroom but we did not get that exact advertisement. I think they just use a standard ad as "the model" but you don't get exactly what is advertised. We were still happy with the condo and the services that we would stay again. read more

I was initially hesitant about booking this place, as the reviews and pictures didn't quite capture what I was expecting. However, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. I reserved a two-bedroom, 1.5-bath apartment that comfortably accommodated three of us, and it could easily host a family of six thanks to its spacious layout and a convenient pullout couch downstairs. The amenities exceeded my expectations--shower pressure was excellent, making quick and refreshing showers easy especially if you're a big group. The condo includes utilities for four people, with plenty of towels provided (Thanks Tina). While there's no air conditioning, the ocean breeze just a block away kept the unit comfortably cool throughout our stay. A nice bonus was having a hot tub in each unit, perfect for relaxing evenings. Parking was also straightforward, with one dedicated spot included. A heads-up for warmer months: if you're sensitive to heat, keep in mind that summer temperatures can get quite hot, and the unit might feel warm without A/C. Additionally, because of the communal setup, it can get quite loud--sounds from neighboring units are audible--so don't forget your earplugs if you value quiet. Off-season, this spot is ideal for friends' getaways or a quick romantic escape. Overall, a charming and practical choice that offers great value and a fantastic location near the ocean. read more

Stayed here when visiting family. Hotels in the area are very expensive and they don't quite accommodate a family with 4 little ones. First of, I stumbled upon Channel Island Shores when searching for a hotel off hotels.com ... and the reason why we reserved this place was the price. We stayed here for 3 days 2 nights and we were ver comfortable. My family was: 2 adults, 4 kids (12 y/o, 7 y/o, 2 y/o, 4 m/o) Our condo was all 1 floor (other options are 2 story townhomes with a jacuzzi in the backyard). Beach was in our backyard. Parking space included. Dishes, pans, glassware, dishwasher, washer and dryer. Our family visited us here and had no complaints from neighbors. We will definitely return. read more

My family has been connected to Channel Islands Shores since it first opened, and watching it deteriorate in value, quality, and integrity has been devastating. What was once a beloved tradition has become a financial nightmare I cannot escape. The maintenance fees tell the whole story. When I first took ownership, fees were just over $900/year. In 2026, I'm being charged over $1,700 per week -- nearly double -- with no cap and no end in sight. Non-owners booking through 3rd party travel sites pay less per night than what I'm forced to pay annually as an owner. That's not ownership, that's a trap. In 2020, I was pressured into purchasing a second week during a high-pressure "time-sensitive" phone call, promised easy exchanges at Marriott, Hyatt, and Four Seasons properties worldwide. I never received a contract, never received my Grant Deed, and had to personally request it from the Ventura County Recorder years later -- at my own expense. I was never told these were perpetual contracts that survive death and pass to my children without their consent. The rental promises were completely hollow. I listed both weeks months in advance and not one single night was ever booked. The resort floods its own inventory first at cheaper prices, leaving owners with zero demand. Amenities have quietly vanished over the years -- covered parking, harbor cruises, pool access -- all gone. The property now operates mainly as a hotel, filled with short-term guests who ignore noise rules and damage what owners once took pride in maintaining. Gross and stuck here for 2 nights! There's nothing worse than when the pictures and experience don't match the reviews. This place does not feel or look clean. It's so uncomfortable. 1) There was hair on 6/12 of the towels in the bathroom. 2) The sheets on the pull out bed are dirty. The kids said, "Mommy, there's sand on the sheets!"Gross!!! This is unacceptable. 3) The beds are so cheap- they squeak and you can feel the springs. 4) Mold & mildew in the shower and plugged shower drain so water up to your ankles within 30 seconds. Peaceful location just a short walk from the beach. Unit was clean, a little dated, but otherwise nice. Our only gripe was that the staff would not answer basic questions about the unit prior to check-in. No unit number, hot tub, BBQ, upstairs/downstairs, parking arrangement, laundry, etc. like it was a big secret or something. even getting the keys was a secret, they would be in a lockbox by 4pm. Note that your rental may be on the west side of Neptune St. as well. Staff was very responsive once we got there, just text your requests. Note that this is like a timeshare, so they don't service your room or bring fresh towels during your stay. There is a laundry room on site to wash your towels. The only thing it's close to is the beach, so be prepared to drive to any restaurant or attraction. read more

Stayed 3 nights and I would love to book this place again. Very clean and well stocked. We were steps from the beach. We didn't run into any problems or need anything from staff so I really can't rate them other than friendly upon check and check out was the same. The bed was comfortable, we did not take advantage of the hot tub spa on our patio because the beach was right outside. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to the Channel Islands/Oxnard/Ventura area. read more

Well on my way out I had a phone call about a family emergency to which I called and spoke to a woman who was very nice about it. Although there was nothing she could do she told me to go through where I booked for a refund. And yes I knew there was a no refund policy and when booking of course didn't think I'd be asking for one so it wasn't an issue of a policy. However, a family emergency certainly could warrant an exception here. But they are refusing to issue a refund as hotels.com put it in the email to me saying they've tried multiple times. So yes based on that, which I feel to be poor business practice for such a small place to be cause for a poor review. Thanks for adding to my stress....so very kind of you. read more

Very conveniently located right between Ventura Harbor and Channel Islands Harbor, so we had a very short drive to all of the restaurants and activities in both areas. Just steps away from the beach, and a nice jacuzzi on the patio made for a great combo of water access! We asked for a late check out so the morning did not feel too rushed. Having a full kitchen made it easy to not have to eat out too much & easily pack for our beach picnics. read more

This was one of the filthiest places I have ever stayed. The towels were so old and scratchy my kids complained about them. Then they stole $134 by lying to me when they took my credit card. I could have purchased a really nice set of towels for less than that. NOT WORTH THE OUTRAGIOUS price they charge. I should have camped on the beach. It would have been cleaner. read more

Mediocre quality resort, bare minimum supplies, very few,very small towels, dated and tired. Absolutely nothing to do near this place. Plan to drive 30-45 minutes daily. The hot tub and washer/dryer was the highlight. Very standard, dated provisions. Beach was clean and quiet, plan to do a lot of reading and arrive well prepared with everything including a space heater. The evening cookies, wine, cheese, and lobby welcome offerings are bare bones dollar store quality. Nothing like the beautiful timeshares are family has stayed at in years past. Felt very budget to us. Ideal for people who want to be idle, don't care about quality and don't mind bringing pretty much everything from home. No shampoo, no kitchen cleaning supplies, just a few tiny towels and no laundry soap. Not even a basic welcome pack. read more

8/16/17 I have to edit my review, in light of being contacted by Jennifer the manager of the facility. She apologized profusely for the mishap in our reservation she did some moving around other reservations and was able let us stay in a two bedroom which was our original reservation. She went out and bought a sand bucket and filled it with goodies for my daughter which included snacks and craft activities. She also bought a bottle of wine for me. 8/14/17 This is a beautiful facility hands down the bottom line is the timeshare clients come first always. We had booked a reservation two months in advance for a two bedroom. I called the day before to make we would have a ground level entry room to accommodate my disabled mom. She had to use a walker, some condos have steep stairs to go up to the second level. (Something else they don't tell you when you book) I knew this because I had stayed here once before. I called and spoke with a lady by the name Roxane, I voiced my concerns and that's when she had said that she only saw that we were in there system as a 1 bedroom. I said absolutely not my confirmation stated 2 bedrooms. She placed me on hold to try and sort things out. She came back and said that the error had been fixed and not to worry. I was promised the ground level entry for my mom and things were good. So I thought... I get a call from Roxane the following morning the day of our arrival to tell me that in fact we would have to be in a 1 bedroom and my disabled mom would in fact have to go up and down the steep stairs to our unit. I voiced that this was unacceptable business practices to lie to me and tell me everything was fine and to put my mothers safety at risk. We tried everything possible to get another reservation somewhere else but everything was booked solid. We have to cram 5 people in a one bedroom for an entire week which is the duration of our stay. DON NOT BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE LIARS ESPECIALLY ROXANE. read more

Great vacation spot. The town house was large enough to fit two families in it without feeling on top of each other. Sleeping space was not an issue for 5 kids and 4 adults. The bedrooms had king size beds and the living room had 2 couches, one which was a couch bed. SCORE! I would have to say my kids favorite part was the hot tub on the patio. They loved it. They were in it every free second. That is def a great idea to have here. The walk to the pirate park and beach was minutes away and it made a family vacation that much more enjoyable. I spent one night at this hotel on 7/31/18. The location can't be better. It is right next to the beach. The room was nice and we had our own hot tub. However, there were 2 issues with this hotel. The first is that there is NO AIR CONDITIONING in the entire hotel. I did not know this before check-in and I read a lot of reviews. It got very hot in our room at night. The second issue was that check-in is late (4pm) and check-out is extremely early (10am). read more

Check into the place early .. Roxanne the Manager ck me in . Roxanne told me the room would be ready after 4pm. She gave me a map to the lock box and explain I can get my key from the lock box along with that she gave me a map. My room sleeps 4 people my sister in law was with me when I ck inn. I told my sister In law to take a picture of the map in case she goes to the room early . Roxanne said nothing ! My sister in law went to the room early ask Roxanne where is the lock box cause she forgot the location of the box? And Roxanne told her I can not tell you the room not in your name . My sister in law reminded her she was in the office earlier ..she said she did not care !! So my brother and sister in law ended up driving home 3 hours due to they were turned away.. very upsetting!!! I also left stuff I bought in the room and ask Roxanne to mail it to me !! Location,location location! Great stay in a quiet residential area 1 block from the beach. Nice staff. Great to have a private hot tub and grill on patio, full size washer and dryer. SO much better than crowded, hotter San Diego area. Don't tell anyone about this hidden gem. Decor was average. Unit is ready for a cohesive decor makeover with smaller scale,lighter color furniture. This place is in a beautiful location and very affordable. I've stayed a total of 5 times and I truly loved it each time. The first time we stayed our reservation was lost but the front desk found it and could see that our room was paid for but not reserved. They were out of 2 bedrooms (what we booked), but we were offered a free upgrade, which was amazing. This time we had another reservation issue. They had us listed for a 1 bedroom, even though we booked and paid for a 2 bedroom. The resort acknowledged their mistake, but there were 5 of us so no way we could fit. So, they gave us the option of cramming 5 people into a 1 bedroom or cancelling. This trip specifically is for my Dad's 80th birthday. I was told a supervisor would call me back in a few hours to help me work this issue out. I received no call, so I called back later in the afternoon. I was told I would be called "by the end of the day". Umm, yeah. Still waiting on that call. Where do I even begin....Check in time is 4pm...we got a text at 4pm telling us our room was not clean yet and we would not be able to check in on time, we ended up checking in almost 45 min late. Then our keys didnt work...not once, not twice but 4x then they called maintenance and had them come fix the "problem". Later that evening we had a very important even to attend (which was the reason why we were visiting Oxnard) only to find out our keys were not working AGAIN, so I called the after hours emergency number (it was 7:14pm) and they told us there was nothing they could do for us that evening because it was after hours and our issue could not be resolved till the following day during business hours. I told them I had a very important event to attend and I needed a key to get back into our apartment after the event and they just said "sorry there is nothing we can do to help". So needless to say we had to miss our event because we wouldnt be able to get back into our apartment without a key that worked. Our hot tub only had 1 jet that worked. It was just definitely not worth the pretty penny we spent to stay there for 2 nights. Just based off the customer service I would not recommend or I will not be staying there again. We spent a week at the CIS resort. It's located just about a block from a nice wide beach. Check in was quick and easy. The desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. The CISR does impose a Resort Fee of $15 a day. They also provide two weekly early evening wine and cheese gatherings for their guests. They have five separate buildings and we were in a second floor end unit of Building Two. Each unit has a separate garage, which is very nice, but they are a tight fit and we noticed several people didn't even use them, just leaving their cars in the driveway. Our unit was a two-bedroom two-bath condo. There is a narrow stairway leading from the driveway to the front porch, no elevators. We requested help in getting our luggage from the car up to the condo and it was quickly provided. The living room and dining room areas are roomy and nicely furnished. A comfortable sofa, love seat, two end tables, a floor lamp, a large coffee table and an entertainment center with a flat screen TV and DVD/VHS player are in the living room. Adjoining it is the long dining table with six nicely padded chairs. We set up my wife's sewing machine and my computer on it. There was still more than enough room for comfortable dining. Our unit was directly over the garage area, so we didn't have any concerns regarding noise for tenants who might be below us. The two bedrooms are adequate; one has a dresser with a flat screen TV (it wasn't working and they never were able to fix it), one nightstand, another huge dresser and adjoining big closet and bathroom. The other has two nightstands, no TV, but another nice big closet. Both bathrooms have adequate counter space and tub/shower combos. They do not provide maid service, but do provide mid-week towel change and trash pickup. The kitchen is on the small side, but very adequate, with refrigerator, five-burner gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker and lots of cabinet space. Our unit also had a laundry area with washer and dryer. Flooring is ceramic tile. The heating system works fine (no AC). The daytime temps while we were there ranged from the mid-60s during the day to the mid-40s at night. The office has movies for loan. Most everything, other than the beach, is beyond normal walking distance (shopping, dining, etc.) and a car is a necessity. Two supermarkets are fairly nearby (Vons and Ralphs) and both are in with many other stores, restaurants and shops. Large mall shopping areas are also nearby. The area is quiet and we enjoyed our stay. read more

I fell in love with this place over 10 years ago. The apartments are always clean, the front desk staff and the maintenance employees are eager to help you. The furniture is regularly updated. I love the fact they have a jacuzzi in each unit and from a few of them, you can see the ocean. These apartments are very close to the beach and ideal for young families or even older ones. read more
