Had an excellent trip out on the water! The boat wasn't too packed. Captain did a great job finding the fish so that everyone had something to bring home before going to a couple shallower sites where the more advanced anglers could try their hand at yellowtail and bass. The boat itself is a nice setup with plenty of live bait, a full service galley where you can get breakfast burritos, cheeseburgers, beer, etc. The crew of the Twin Speed were the stars of the show. They were always busy but extremely helpful. They were always there to get the fish off our hooks and into the burlap sacks, untangle lines, and fillet the fish. This is one of the best trips I've had in a long time. I seem to have caught a fever, and the only cure is my next trip with these guys. Tips- make sure to bring cash. Pole rentals and licenses at the harbor, as well as food, beer, filleting, extra tackle, and anything else purchased on the boat is cash only.

This is one of the best boats that I have ever been on! The crews and captains are top notch. Each time they have been very friendly, knowledgeable and HELPFUL! They always show people how to rig and catch fish. One time we went shallow and I didn't bring lighter tackle. So one of the crew lent me a smaller hook and weight. Bam I caught my personal best Bull Calico Bass. That particular trip I caught my least but still had a blast with my bass and lots of shorts that were thrown back. This last trip I just had was the normal LIMITS for the boat. Talking with people onboard there were many repeat fishermen which testifies to how good this boat and crew are. The food was EXCELLENT as always. My custom ketogenic meals were very satisfying and made promptly. Top CHEF stuff! Take your friends and family on this boat for a great time. It's worth every penny and it's the best 4 hour half day of fishing that I have ever experienced in the last decade.

Great half day boat out of Channel Islands Sportfishing. Half day is 8am to 4pm. Boat is pretty spacious with a full galley. Target species are generally rock cod. Rock cod includes bocaccio, snapper, and other bottom dwelling creatures. Typical setup for fishing rock cod is a dropper loop setup with a 6 to 12oz sinker depending on the strength of the current. 1/0 circle hooks work great with squid strips or the live bait (anchovies or sardines). The bocaccio love the live bait. You can fish straight 30lb mono or go with spectra. You will feel the bites with spectra better. Captain and crew are top notch. Crew is pretty helpful in undoing tangles and helping remove fish from your hook. I will definitely be back.

The captain was very rude and needs to learn about customer service. The boat was so so but I've been on better.

Tucker:…read more On our last trip, in 5 ft. seas out of the northwest, and 20 knots of wind out of the northeast, Tucker held the boat over a reef in 320 ft. of water like we were sitting on anchor. To say this skipper and crew are outstanding is an understatement. After a lifetime of being on boats as both customer and crew, I can honestly tell you that the Mirage runs a high quality operation. Veteran deckhand Ryan and the whole crew are always, and I mean ALWAYS, Johnny on the spot if you need a fish gaffed, if you get a tangle, if you lose a rig and need it re-tied... Just amazing. The boat sleeps 24, and it's no foo foo pleasure cruise, but comfortable and a pretty good ride. A full galley with indoor seating, plenty of deck space, and double bait tank capacity makes this a great platform for overnight fishing to the outer islands. Little extras like keeping lingcod and other delicate fish in the ice water hold below decks for the trip, the positive and polite crew, and one of the most knowledgeable young skippers on the coast makes this my favorite boat for rockfishing. They simply find fish, and do everything they can to help you out them on the boat. These guys earn their tips and greatly appreciate the opportunity to truly work hard for you. Fish cleaning on the boat is professional and neat... Buck a fish, $2 for lingcod and other select bigguns. Ever get a whiff of rotting fish carcasses in your trash cans after a few days in the sun? Worth every penny and then some. Whether you're a veteran or a novice, this crew will take care of your fishing needs.

Even NBC 7's helicopter eventually ran out of fuel while trying to film the event! It took me almost an hour in the morning to drive from Pasadena to Ventura Beach. I set the GPS to navigate to the pier, where there is a garage nearby. I drove in and found it completely unattended; the fee booth was empty. After driving around inside, I found an outdoor parking lot that was even closer to the pier. There was no one at the entrance, likely because it is the "off-season." It was less than 20 meters from the parking lot to the wooden steps of the pier. There were fewer than 20 people on the pier that morning, even though it was nearly 8:00 AM. The restaurant wasn't open yet, and they likely don't open during this time of year. Walking on the pier is very peaceful, even if the sound of the sea is quite loud. The public restrooms were clean as well. It is a wonderful break to have on the drive from Los Angeles to San Jose. My recommendation: go there early during the quiet season.

Probably one of the most frustrating and disappointing charter experiences I've ever had--and I say…read morethat as someone who understands fishing doesn't always go your way. We spent 3.5 hours on the boat before a single line even hit the water. After finally starting, we fished for about 30 minutes, only to pack up again and spend another 1.5 hours cruising to a different spot near an oil rig. Yes, the fishing improved there--but by then, most of the trip had already been wasted just moving around. On what's supposed to be a ¾-day trip, we spent roughly 5.5 hours doing nothing but traveling, dealing with tangled lines, and waiting. That's not "a slow day of fishing"--that's poor planning and inexperience. It was openly stated this was a new crew, including the captain, and unfortunately, it showed. To be fair, the deckhand was great--helpful and professional. But that couldn't make up for everything else. What really crossed the line for me was the environment on board. At one point, another angler yelled at my son, blaming him for a tangled line--only for it to be proven it wasn't even his fault. That should never happen, especially on a trip where families and kids are present. Completely unacceptable. Then, when we picked up our catch, we were given more fish than we actually caught. I understand sharing when limits are reached--but this felt off, like we were handed someone else's hard-earned catch. That takes away from the whole experience. At the end of the day, the low price makes sense--you truly get what you pay for. But I'd rather spend a little more for a well-run, respectful, and enjoyable trip than deal with chaos, wasted time, and a hostile environment. If you're considering this charter--especially if you have kids--I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. I've gone out with Ciscos Sportfishing multiple times, and they have never let me down. Professional crews, organized trips, and a much more family-friendly atmosphere. Save yourself the frustration. Go with a crew that knows what they're doing and actually values your time and experience. Date of trip: 4/4/26 Boat: Coroloma
